Kalamazoo Central won the Race To The Top High School Commencement Challenge in 2010 and won the right to have Obama be the guest speaker.
Oliver said he challenged the president to a game of one-on-one when they met and he said Saturday night it was pretty cool the president remembered.

My nephew applied for CoveredCA. Turns out he’s too poor for the subsidy, so he’s been given MediCAL. Now, he currently has insurance that he pays for out of pocket with Kaiser. But it’s a hell of a lot of money a month, and the copay to see a doctor is $100. That’s insane. So now his monthly premium is ZERO, and when he gets more paying gigs he can reapply in the fall for another plan.

As to “They want in.” What’s so sad is that President Obama would willingly hold the door open for them (and has tried, countless times, to do just that). The ones who have crossed the threshold and truly participated in the major accomplishments of his Presidency - Joe Biden, John Kerry, Samantha Power, Susan Rice ………………………, actually a very long list - will never regret having done so and will share in the glory that President Obama will always share with them.

Hello TOD…I am delurking just to update you on some of the happenings in OBAMACARE in my neck of the woods in New Jersey.
The pace of enrollment has picked up tremendously for the past few weeks (yes people do tend to wait for the last minute).
I posted sometime last October that I had done the required exam and became a Certified Counselor as I wanted to be able
to help get PBO’s word out and help to sign up people. Well it has proven sooo rewarding. Nothing like seeing the grateful look
or even tears in the eyes of ordinary people who were once shut out of Healthcare.
One of the many things I find interesting, is that the majority of people who show up at our door always have this look of uncertainty
on their faces and the first words that come out of their mouths are “Is this where I can sign up/get OBAMACARE ?” Never just healthcare
or ACA. So the name has stuck. And that’s a very good thing.
The past two Fridays were so busy we had to reassign people to Monday. A reporter from one of the local newspapers even came in
and did a write -up of what we were doing along with interviewing clients who were signing up.
The Repubs are crazy if they think they are going to repeal this GEM that our President fought for. No they can’t! Not with all the
enthusiasm and gratefulness I am seeing on peoples’ faces.
What has surprised me is the amount of people who come in that have either no job or very low paying jobs. So a lot of them therefore
qualify for Medicaid Expansion. Luckily our big- ego/bullying Governor had accepted the ME…even if for his own selfish political re-election
reasons.
This week will be even more crazy. But I call that GOOD CRAZY. the more sign-ups the better. Looking forward to the challenge.
