I so agree with the Pres, and the comedienne, that there is no need for all this fanfare about graduation at 8th grade and below.

That was such a great letter. Really put everything in real terms. That letter really needs to go viral. I think people who don’t understand what White Privilege is will understand after reading this letter.

          Pre-crastinating…procrastinating????

I’m sitting here looking at that summary (I peeked at the article too) and wondering how come you always stumble on to these unusual(?), divergent (?), ‘odd’ articles or videos? Somewhat like the way Dudette always find the weirdest video clips. Hmmmm.

Ssssshh, JO’B. I like teasing LPlains, plus he knows by now that ‘unusual’ and ‘weird’ are often just up my street….or he ought to. Very often he brings to the table just that little bit of differing approach that fleshes out a topic/discussion. Good evening to you, JO’B!

……U.S. allies in Europe see an added bonus to a comprehensive nuclear agreement being reached with Iran: a potential partner in the energy war against Russian President Vladimir Putin. Iran and world powers will resume negotiations this week in Vienna with the aim of forging a final deal on Iran’s nuclear program by late July. Such a deal could cap parts of Tehran’s nuclear program in return for an easing of international sanctions.

U.S. and European sanctions on Tehran for its nuclear work have resulted in the shutoff of virtually all Iranian energy sales to Europe since 2012. Prior to then, Iran was a major supplier to such countries as Greece, Italy and Spain. Western energy companies are expressing growing interest in returning to Iran as a result of the nuclear talks. And European countries, wary of Russia’s military moves into Ukraine, see renewed Iranian energy supplies as a way to undercut Mr. Putin’s ability to use oil and gas as a weapon against the European Union and many former Soviet states…….

It would be such delicious irony IMO if Russia has sidelined itself re energy sales to Europe et al, and in the end becomes displaced by Iran.

From an outside perspective - the fools running around with their 2nd amendment rights at the ready are causing many in my world to rethink their tourist trips.

Are we alone in that thought? Does it impact local tourism?

If you haven’t read today’s SP’s post yet, PLEASE go read it now. We sometimes miss the quiet behind-the-scenes work of the O-Admin while folks like #OperationAmericanSpring are cluttering up the information highway.

‘Ever since Barack Obama was elected President in 2008, I’ve wanted to watch every moment of his journey because I think something truly remarkable is happening. There are times when it is the relatively small things that often go unnoticed by our media that actually stand out to me.

For example, did you know that today is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia? And are you aware that yesterday the President issued a statement commemorating it?

Tomorrow, as we commemorate the 10th annual International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, we recommit ourselves to the fundamental belief that all people should be treated equally, that they should have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential, and that no one should face violence or discrimination — no matter who they are or whom they love.

This comes a week after Obama’s Secretary of Defense said it was time to review the military’s ban on transexuals. B.F.D!!!

Good evening…..it’s a perfect 70 degrees here today, no wind, low humidity…..we have three or four a year, so we truly enjoy them when they come!
We watched David Muir’s news tonight. He had a segment on FLOTUS’s speech in Topeka. He said they had to change the venue to a larger one than original, because so many people wanted to come. Take that you complainers! It was a VERY important speech…..one all of us need to take to heart, and young people need to hear and understand.

“Earlier, during withdrawals after clashes with security forces, terrorists have always sought to take the bodies of the dead terrorists with them–to avoid their identification as citizens of Russia and members of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.”

Wonder when the families of these dead Russian soldiers will get the word. Very likely, not for a long time. That is how evil Putin is.

“We are not an official [government] agency, so we expect the lists of fallen heroes to be clarified by the relevant government authorities. It’s important to understand that providing such comprehensive and objective information is our sacred duty to those who gave their lives for Ukraine. Also, it’s an important component of countering false Russian propaganda.”

Transparency in this most sacred of matters is absolutely essential as is honoring the fallen, something our President Obama and VP Biden have done in contradistinction to the propaganda black out by GWB and Cheney of the thousands of our fallen whom they sent to death for no justifiable reason.

    http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2014/05/16/3438826/american-spring/

The “second American revolution” got off to a slow start in Washington, DC on Friday, falling roughly 9,999,950 people short of their goal of 10 million angry, constitution-wielding participants. (That was the low-end estimate. They were prepared for upwards of 30 million).
The few who did make it to Washington, D.C came with a laundry list of grievances, ranging from Benghazi, to Obamacare, to President Obama’s birth certificate, to general lawlessness.
“Our main goal is to return our government to the constitutional government,” said Marty Church, a protestor who traveled to Washington, D.C from the Maryland suburbs. “The whole administration is based on lies,” added Fred Lachance, another protester from Maryland.
“Benghazi’s a lie and a cover-up,” said Church. “And if you’re lying about something as stupid as that, what else are you lying about?”

I haven’t had a chance to look through the comments in the other posts today and yesterday so I may be giving you info you’ve already seen. Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

This author was initially skeptical of Pres Obama’s sanction policy with Russia, but is begrudgingly coming around. Nancy LeTourneau has written about this quite effectively. This is our consensus building President who recognizes the power of partnerships. Jim Stewart had a good article about POTUS called The Obama Doctrine that lays this out. http://jimstuartnewblog.blogspot.com/2014/03/the-obama-doctrine.html

…Most of this is economic. Russia’s self-imposed economic problems started pretty quickly after its annexation of Crimea in March and have kept up. Whether or not American or European governments sanction Russia’s broader economy, the global investment community has a mind of its own, and they seem to have decided that Russia’s behavior has made it a risky place to put money. So risky that they’re pulling more money out.

A lot of that may have come from the targeted sanctions that Obama pushed for against individual Russian leaders and oligarchs. Those targeted sanctions did not themselves do much damage to the Russian economy. But, along with Russia’s erratic behavior in Ukraine and the lack of clarity as to whether Europe and the US could impose broader sanctions, it appears to have been enough to scare off global investors — the big, faceless, placeless mass of people and banks who have done tremendous damage to Putin’s Russia, nudged along by the US and by Putin himself….

…From Obama’s perspective, the beautiful thing about this is that the US doesn’t have to take any big risks to punish Russia for its aggression, because Russia is being punished by the impersonal forces of the global economy (this has the added benefit of not giving Putin a propaganda tool, which US sanctions would do). Maybe even better is the fact that Putin can’t cleverly negotiate his way out of these effects or try to game the system, and he now knows this will happen if he tries something like the Crimea annexation again.

The lesson that Putin is learning is that Russia depends on the global economy, whether it likes it or not, and the global economy doesn’t like it when you go invading other countries and tempting the richest nations in the world to maybe consider sanctioning you. This is actually a significant change for Russia, which at the height of its Soviet power was not integrated into the global economy and so didn’t have to worry about things like investor sentiment. But now it is and it does…..

It’s an interesting admission of fact by the vox folk, TME, and this is what I sent them, yesterday ….

Anyone attempting to underestimate President Obama, given the abundance of his performance record, is certifiably ready for maximum psychiatric intervention.
