Jeffrey Young: Conservatives Proven Utterly Wrong On Key Aspect Of Obamacare
Remember when Obamacare was a terrible deal for young adults, and how “young invincibles” didn’t even want health insurance? Conservative groups — acting, no doubt, out of deep concern for the well-being of the nation’s 20-somethings — even staged events where young people burned their “Obamacare cards” (there is no such thing). Instead, this is what happened:

Not so scary, after all. That’s right: The share of the population between 19 and 25 years old without health insurance has fallen since the Affordable Care Act passed in 2010. That year, the uninsured rate for that group was more than 30 percent. By the end of this March, it had fallen to 21 percent, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention survey data presented in a report the White House Council of Economic Advisors released Wednesday. In fact, the uninsured rate fell more for young adults than any other age group from the end of 2013 to the close of the first quarter of this year, the CDC survey found. And that doesn’t even account for a surge in Obamacare enrollments at the end of March and early April, especially among younger people, for insurance coverage that didn’t kick in until April or May. Turns out, people under 30 also think having health insurance is a good idea.

If Obama tried to "screw his base" with health reform, he's got a funny way of showing it. huff.to/1s2CCzz http://t.co/WLRLhibkEj

Some of Obamas base are ungrateful.
They are not his base. They only pretend to be, and jump on and off his bandwagon when it suits them.

I have a LOT of 25 - 35 year-old clients that I’ve signed up through the exchange, and some who are making too much to get a tax credit-OFF the exchange.
These people range from young professionals to people just starting families, who know that having coverage is 100% better than taking a risk. They know that NOT having insurance would be financial suicide at this stage of their lives, since most have student loans to pay off, and adding a bankruptcy because what little savings they had wasn’t enough to pay for prenatal care and delivery of their first child.
The GOP have proven they’re all a bunch of OLD WHITE MEN, (and those that aren’t, think exactly like them), since anything that doesn’t concern the health of old white men, (pregnancy, sports injuries, preventative care, etc.) they could care less about, but young adults are very aware of their own health and thus economic vulnerabilities.
This looks like a section of Eastern Parkway - Brooklyn NY!
So the sidewalks used to be more pedestrian-friendly (i.e., wider) than they are now?
The roadways must have had to be expanded to accommodate automobiles. :(
Beautiful!

Nerdy you are so on top of this issue. I wish for universal health care for all. It does save lives.
Thanks, Vetivera24.
Whats going on in the media? Its worse than ever… This blame obama for everything . It’s almost like a game to the Media. :(
It IS more intense than ever!
Election is coming up so soon.
GOP/MSM frantic with teeth and claws bared.
What we noticed all along. And what maybe we thought was our own paranoia, has now been revealed as a 24 hour seven day a week all out, no-holds-barred assault on Our President.
I am finding it hard to bear and so stressful that I very rarely turn on my TV except for entertainment escapist shows. Tonight, The Walking Dead returns!
I notice that a lot of times, headlines indicate that the article will be about something that is negative for PBO. But when you read the article, it is nothing close to what the headline states. Probably because they know people will focus on the headline and not bother to read the article.
thanks, hf2. i saw the usual drama junkies on twitter going after senator warren this morn, yet again, and figured it was some false reading of what she said, as has happened several times now. i found that article and read the article and it’s clear that’s what is happening, as allan said.
senator warren and martin o’malley have been the most vocal and consistent supporters of president obama for years now, so it’s been weird to see obama-backers turn on her so quickly when their chain gets purposely yanked with false characterizations of her words. has even happened in the comments here. starts to feel like 2007 again when anyone who could be seen as a threat to the coronation of The Inevitable One would get pounced on immediately with false narratives, namely then-senator barack hussein obama. hopefully people won’t fall for it again…
Totally agree with that statement, for sure! It’s been SICKENING, since the day after the ’08 election.
Repeating myself here, but “young invincibles” is a MYTH created by our stellar (snark) elite, white, MALE, DC echo-chamber who gives the GOP their marching orders.
How many young women of child bearing age are disinterested in medical care?
I would wager only those who don’t know where STD, AIDs and babies come from.
And I think you’d win that wager! Happy Sunday, arapaho!
For 57F and No Child Left Behind (on previous thread, re: McCain a**holery):
Here’s what John “I chose the Tundra Twit to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency” McCain had to say today, apparently.
Where’s the “country first” McCain? (snark)
Eff John McCain and the dinosaur he rode in on.
Now back to enjoying my day!
Good Sunday Afternoon everyone. Just popping in before the family gets here but wanted to tell HF2 and others that they did a great job taking down Roland Martin yesterday.
It gave me a big ole :) today!

I wonder what Jamal is smoking today……
Oh pleeeze.
Really hate to see Black pundits insult the intelligence of everyone, especially fellow Black Americans. Sheesh.
Jamal Simmons what the hell have you been smoking? Let me tell you this, STOP smoking it.!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m wondering, too. Unreal.
Neither Hillary nor Rand Paul will be the 2016 nominees. The media is hoping for that kind of Scenario because it would put some Dem voters in a bind - making them either want to stay home or vote GOP. That’s why the MSM keeps pimping HRC -because they’d be quite happy with either her or a Republican in the WH…..
Correct re: 2016 nominees.
Good Morning Chips and TOD!
I have been relatively newsmedia- and pundit- free for approximately the last two years and it has been bliss. From reading comments here over the past week, it looks like I haven’t missed a thing and that the scoundrels are still as stupid and scoundrelly as ever. I had actually forgot all about some of these characters lol.
Anyway, loving the good news on Obamacare and those dashing 2008 pics. Have a great Sunday, everyone!
Hi PJ, sharing happy Sunday wishes with you too! Your assessment is spot on! Yes, the scoundrels have been their usual selves, sometimes apparently on speed. The only thing you really missed over the past two years was our company, and, in truth, sometimes even some of us were a bit squirrel-ly. ;)
Hellooooo my dear ((((VC))))!
The more things change, the more they stay the same, I suppose. :-D I just couldn’t stay in that mind space while I was attending to some mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. Knowhatimsayin?
Now TOD I have greatly missed, especially you, Chief Squirrel. Thanks for all the times you checked up on me, dearie! ♥ ♥ ♥
 Don’t mention it, PJ. It *is* great to have you dropping in more often, and to know that’s a sign you weathered/are weathering your personal storm.
Just back from Thanksgiving dinner, so am off to see what’s at the top of the ‘menu’ board in the village this evening.
NW - I couldn’t get through your headline without LMAO! Keep up the good work.
Happy Sunday, TODville!
Thanks, Ms. J’OB.
I hope you had a wonderful birthday!
Thanks, darlin’ - it was excellent and it’s still going!
This is an amazing chart, Dr. Bob, thanks for posting!
From a USA perspective, what leaps out to me is… infrastructure.
In the 30 years between 1870-1900, the US suddenly appeared as a world economic leader, and the difference between the US in, let’s say, 1868 and 1900 was the transcontinental railroad (the Pony Express of historical lore ceased to exist in 1866).
So in today’s terms, progressives (and those who support US infrastructure) are the transcontinental railroad, while reactive conservative RWNJs are the Pony Express.
That’s an apt comparison, Arapaho.
What is not reflected (yet) in that graphic visualization is that for ~ 1950 of those years the impact of economy on ecology was negligible.
What will define whether humanity persists is the extent to which Nations adopt ecological economics as their model. Very little time remains before failing to do so will eliminate the option as a willful decision and homo sapiens experiences an evolutionary crisis.
You see this?
President Obama orders additional federal steps to help hospitals spread the halt of Ebola - @dallasnews
Dr. Bob,
Did you see this?
I posted on an early morning thread this week, but didn’t hear from 99ts as to whether this is getting much traction in Australia.
From the article:
“The sale left Mr Leung with a secretive financial windfall – including an additional guarantee that UGL would pay to him an outstanding £1.5 million bonus owed by the insolvent firm – but left DTZ’s other shareholders and unsecured creditors with nothing, wiping out investments and debts worth tens of millions of dollars.
Mr Leung’s side deal equated to more than 5 per cent of the purchase price.”
Annoyingly, TheAge article now has an auto-start video embedded in it. :(
Thank you Arapaho. Yes, I had read about CY’s ‘financial’ dealings when the story first appeared. Folk at #OccupyHK have leveraged the information, aggressively, as they should.
Bunches of irony in this pic ….
President Obama is at Fort Belvoir.
Look upthread JER…Mark knoller has been on the case…
LOL! :)
Paul Krugman will soon be “blacklisted” by the “inevitable-candidate’s” supporters for factual statements like this:
Does this mean another GLAAD award for Clinton for DOMA and DADT?
you bet!
I know NOTHING about military planning and operations during war;
but it seems to me that ISIL’s focus on taking Kobani is a tactical error from the point of view of ISIL.
if, as reports on the ground indicate, this ISIL is constantly re-supplying and reinforcing its positions in Kobani, then it is in fact making it easier for its fighters to be identified and concentrated in a narrower space.
wouldn’t this make them easier to target by the coalition than they would if they were more spread out in more locations across the region?
as more and more ISIL fighters come to join in the fight for Kobani, doesn’t this mean that they are fewer ISIL fighters left in Syria?
it seems to me that in their egotistical focus on Kobani, they are acting more like bees drawn to poisonous honey just before an exterminator comes in to spray the hive
Daesh’s conceit is “statehood,” “caliphate.” As opposed to enclaves in regions not adequately controlled (for whatever reason) by actual States (e.g., AQ in Pakistan, in Yemen, Somalia, Mali, etc).
Daesh aspires to being a state, and to do so it must control real estate.
Kobani is crucial given it’s proximity to Turkey, which has been obviously way more supportive of Daesh than they’ve wanted the world to realize (Erdogan has lost on that score).
Unfortunate for Daesh, the Kurds have no intention of cooperating with their statehood aspirations. And, as you’ve noted, the more Daesh concentrates in Kobani, the more it consolidates itself as a target.
Two tactical tasks need to be implemented, quickly: 1. Kurds fighting Daesh need supplies; and, 2. skilled forward observers need to be fully operational in Kobani as to properly ‘paint’ targets for air strikes.
An overarching strategic task that must be accomplished - like a year or more ago - is forcing Erdogan to stop enabling Daesh.
issues are so complicated with so many external interests;
I hope the loss of life of ordinary people (especially the Kurds) can be minimized
hmmm not sure - Bob would know! Kobane is a small city of approximately 45,000 located in Syria but right on the border near Turkey.Turkey is blocking reinforcements for the Kurds so I’m not sure if it’s a tactical mistake of the ISIL as the biggest problem for the past few days was that a) the coalition didn’t attack until ISIL was near or in the city and b) the Kurds are land locked with no way to get reinforcements. I think the late strikes were because of the difficulty getting ground coordination with the Kurds of areas to attack.
I’ve been following @kahitstorm and https://twitter.com/jenanmoussa on Twitter to get updates on it. It sounds like the airstrikes are helping still but the biggest problem is that the Kurds need more men and women in the city with weapons. Not only is Turkey not helping with ground troops - which they say is because it would be invading Syria — but they have a blockade of any supplies for the Kurds going into Kobane.
gcl, ahh! Bob replied faster than my reply lol.
:)
Yep, it seems that Bob was typing at the same time as you!
thanks for your input - hoping that eventually, the situation will be contained and that ISIL will be marginalized

I think it’s gonna be more like the Earth is still here, but all the people will be gone.
I haven’t seen LockeIsWright (sp) for a while? He must be busy cooking today.
Have also been wondering about Layla and Fred.
Bobfr, I have also been worried about Layla and Formerly Fred. They are constantly on my mind, but I have hesitated to say something because I did not want to leave an impression that” the little old lady” is dipping in places. (Those are my words). Not my TOD family, for sure.
Just love and deeply concerned about them. I am hoping for goodness to be in both of their spaces. Love them so, and these times are difficult for so many of us.

if someone has a clear understanding of what the long-term strategy is for Gaza, please share it;
I am perplexed:
- a few weeks ago there were thousands of images of the destruction that was taking place in Gaza;
- now international conferences are being held to fundraise billions to rebuild Gaza and nations are making pledges;
- when will this cycle of destruction & rebuilding come an end and what will it take to get genuine peace in this part of the world ?
Won’t happen until Jewish Israelis and Palestinians decide to establish respected borders and become trading partners rather than adversaries dedicated to annihilation of each other. It’s not as if it hasn’t been done before, throughout history.
the moderates on either side need to become more vocal and reduce the influence of the extremes
I hear ya Linda! So many questions; so few answers….and like you said, never-ending cycle of destruction and rebuilding. A very frustrating experience at best. Let’s see how this one plays out….
yet another conflict to watch with such heavy hearts but with hope the best always at the horizon
Here Be Grifters.
If you can’t sell your ODS paranoia here, why not take it to a place where people on the ground are doing good work and try to make everything about you.
Grifters Playbook 101. Eh, Cornel West?
Nerdy, I almost vomited when I saw the tweet - what a truly repulsive opportunistic scumbag West is.
OMG, how sickening. The flyer has asshat West described as “noted public intellectual”. I don’t think there is supposed to be an “L” in the middle word.
:)
More like “noted self promoter with ODS,” in my book.
well it took his ass long enough.
I’m do tired of this motherfucker.
*so
When will this fool learn that it is not about him? It is so sad that he and others like him are not doing anything on the ground in a daily fight for justice and equality. Here they come again with their effing seminars to make obvious statements, get attention, get paid and leave. I am sure that he will be on Tavis’s show pontificating some time soon. Contrast this with out PBO who as a young man left the Ivory Towers to work as a community organizer among the people who needed him. His whole political career has always been about doing something rather than being someone and that is why he is president of the USA. I will be so glad to finally see the end of these parasitic grifters who feed on their own.
Should be “our PBO…”.
clarifying information about the organizers of this event - which person with a clear fair mind pays ANY attention to what crap west sprouts these days?
most people I know don’t ;
by the of this event today, the quotes will be about him and his attacks on PBO
Thank you all for summing this all up for me, especially Chips. You said what I was yelling out in my house. Chips, you gave me pause for not having to take another pill. (((((TY)))))HZ

one from a few days ago as he was doing live tweet reporting from a pepper field outside of Kobane.
Oct 11 (Reuters) - Members of an NBC News crew who worked with a cameraman who contracted Ebola in Liberia have been quarantined, New Jersey health officials said on Saturday.
Officials said the order was issued late Friday after the crew members violated an agreement to voluntarily confine themselves. They said none of the team has exhibited symptoms of the often fatal disease since returning from Liberia, one of three West African countries at the epicenter of the outbreak.

Good Sunday Sunny Afternoon…..a Perfect Fall weather from the state with at least 10K lakes…..more like 15K lakes.
Au :star: for Chips ;)
Awesome thread NW, Thank You.
Just finished mowing the lawn and wrecking some leaves…….
Wow….had not really paid much attention to the news today……but learned at about 10:30 AM CT that at the Dallas Presbyterian Hospital, a Female Nurse contracted Ebola. I feel for her and her family.
Question…..or rather a concern…..Emory has treated Ebola cases…..and so has a Hospital in NE……and nothing this awful has happened in either two facilities.
Wow.
