catching up

****

Friend –

Remember that deadline we kept emailing you about a couple weeks ago? Here’s what you should know about what we’ll report to the FEC tomorrow:

– In the third fundraising quarter of this year, 606,027 people donated to this campaign – even more than gave in the record-breaking previous quarter.

– Those people gave more than 766,000 total donations – 98 percent of them $250 or less, at an average amount of $56. That’s more than twice as many donations than we had at this point in the historic 2008 campaign.

– Together, Obama for America and the DNC raised more than $70 million. And it all happened during a summer when the President was focused on doing the job he was elected to do – a summer when we had to cancel a series of fundraising events and ask everyone to dig a little deeper.

If I could sum up this last quarter in a few words: Supporters like you came through.

Here’s even bigger news: Right now, 982,967 people have donated to this campaign. We’re within striking distance of 1 million donors.

…. Thanks for all you did to get us here. I’m excited for what’s ahead, and I hope you’ll take part in the push to 1 million grassroots donors today.

Match someone’s pledge, double your impact, and become part of the first million today:

Donate here

Thanks,

Jim Messina

NYT Editorial: It was all predicted, but the unanimous decision by Senate Republicans on Tuesday to filibuster and thus kill President Obama’s jobs bill was still a breathtaking act of economic vandalism. There are 14 million people out of work, wages are falling, poverty is rising, and a second recession may be blowing in, but not a single Republican would even allow debate on a sound plan to cut middle-class taxes and increase public-works spending.

…. The Republicans offer no actual economic plans, only tired slogans about cutting regulations and spending, and ending health care reform…. Their lack of serious ideas was on full display in both the Senate and the presidential debate on Tuesday night in New Hampshire. The debate was ostensibly about the economy, but when the freshest and most-talked-about idea is Herman Cain’s ridiculous “9-9-9” tax plan, it is clear that the economy they were debating is not the one Americans are forced to live in…..

The other candidates were no less vacuous. Mitt Romney offered an ash heap of used ideas … Rick Perry, when he could be stirred to speak, vowed to somehow put 1.2 million people to work in the energy industry, as if the whole country were Texas and drills could pop up on every block.

Republican candidates fear the Tea Party too much to acknowledge that economists are solidly behind government intervention to awaken growth …. But at least the record is increasingly clear who is advocating real ideas and who is selling an empty vessel.

Greg Sargent: The public really likes the Obama jobs policies that the GOP blocked: The internals of the NBC/WSJ poll are now up online. Check out this bit:

The jobs bill would cut the payroll tax rate, fund new road construction, continue to extend unemployment benefits, and give tax credits to companies who hire and train long-term unemployed workers. The plan would be paid for by increasing taxes on the wealthy and increasing taxes on businesses by closing some corporate tax loopholes. Do you favor or oppose this plan?

We won’t take NO for an answer! Press on, Mr. President.

    Good Morning TOD family

So happy to watch and read how folks are fighting back. The AJA will not go away, and we can help keep the pressure on.

I have a variety of unrelated comments

    1. I got a call from Democrats fundraising and I told them I donate only to Donna and when were they going to announce she had won the phone call with the President. The young man was kinda taken aback and said he would pass along the message. I have become quite a crabby contributor. Donna let us know when we can have an official celebration

    2. I have read a variety of comments about OWS, and plan to write up a more detailed post on Sunday, after our rally in support of this movement is held. FYI – the Latino Democratic Club, Sonoma County Democrats, SEIU, AFL-CIO, CFT (teachers) and several other groups are endorsing this event. We anticipate 500 – 1000 in attendance. To give you some perspective attendance at a rally in this town of 200,000 is usually between 100-200 folks. The general assembly meetings which I have been attending were featured on the front page of the local paper yesterday. Our group does not have a platform – however they have only existed for 12 days. There has been no mention of Ralph Nader or Ron Paul. They have been trying to form an organization and deal with the details of a march and occupation, policy will come later. When MoveOn is asked for an opinion we will talk about the Contract for the American Dream and the American Jobs Act. At the rally we will be passing out a handout that contains facts about both projects. OWS will be unique to each community – I encourage you to attend a few General Assembly meetings and make your voice heard before you condemn them.

Nice to hear about 1) your fiestiness with regard to our Donna’s imminent victory and 2) your General Assembly — that is very encouraging and I look forward to your write-up! I think the local assemblies are a wonderful thing, and I love the fact they’re not “defined” yet — I think that makes it easier for folks to mingle and exchange ideas. Have a great time :-).

        Here’s Ed Henry’s spin on PBO’s response.

        11:36am Oct 13

Ed Henry Clashes With Obama At White House Press Conference: Fox News Chief White House Correspondent Ed Henry experienced a tense moment with President Obama during a Thursday press conference. The President held a joint press conference with Lee Myung-Bak, President of South Korea. Ed Henry had the first question of the conference and asked Obama if he considered the alleged Iranian assassination plot to be “an act of war.” Henry decided to quote a Mitt Romney statement from last week when asking for the President’s plans to address Iran’s alleged terror plot. Henry asked the President “what specific steps will you take to hold Iran accountable? Especially when Mitt Romney charged last week, quote, ‘If you do not want America to be the strongest nation on Earth, I am not your President. You have that president today.'” Obama paused and answered, “Well I did not know you were the spokesman for Romney,” and smiled down at Henry. Henry discussed the exchange with Megyn Kelly on her show and defended his decision to quote Mitt Romney in his question. “I was trying to put it in the broader context of not just Mitt Romney, but there are a lot of Republicans out there who would charge that this president leads from behind,” he said. “…Instead, he decided to go after me a little bit.” Huffington Post…

Ed Henry tried to take this opportunity in front of a foreign dignitary, to be a smart-ass and got slap-down in front of the same foreign dignitaries and the foreign press which laugh at his dumb ass on national & international televise event.. Which was embarrassed for him, so what did he do? Run back to faux and lick his wounds… In fact, all foreign leaders know how effective this President is on all foreign matters. That why, he have the respect of England, Russia (incl. Putin), France, China, So. America nations and Mid-East Arab nations… That just noise that the rethugs. are pushing and the msm is singing… But yet, not one of these so-called reporters have the nerve to ask these leaders otherwise… IMO they’re the ones who look weak because they don’t have the backbone to stand-up to the conservatives or corp. money…

Guess his fellow Republicans didn’t tell him that voter suppression laws in states are targeting various Democratic supporters, some of whom are those very same “brainwashed” African Americans of whom he likes to opine and wishes to grab with insults.

Nah. Well since West and Tavis are one in the same and West stood by in silent agreement when Tavis said that AA’s need to “think” about why they support the President – pretty much calling the AA’s who support the President stupid of brainwashed. It appears that these two who are joined at the hip agree with Cain’s assessment of AA’s being brainwashed.

today one show devoted a significant number of minutes just laughing at his “surge”, quoting back the insults he has managed to thow
about blacks since he started running. they eve wrote a song about him that is not so flaterring

as usual, people are under this false illusion that the only reason we support President Obama is because he is black. remember that is what they tried to do to him during his 2004 senate race?

of course this is why the gop is pushing pizza-man ahead and using him as michael steele or clarence thomas. we can see these kinds of people coming a mile a way

This is the second time I’ve had an exchange on twitter from an OWS person who insists that they are anti-Obama. This one actually accused the President of being a liar, and sent me a bunch of nonsense to read to prove her claims. And she told me that Ron Paul is their hero, and the only one who will give them what they want, and they are aligned with Moveon.org.

I don’t want to open up a sensitive topic, but I really don’t know what these people want. I was really disturbed by this twitter exchange – really scary. I also heard one of them being interviewed on NPR this morning, and she said that it will take time for their brand of democracy to take shape and get stuff done – and I wondered why they are so eager to give themselves time to even get a coherent message, but they’ve written off President Obama who has achieved 80% of his agenda, saying it’s taking too long.

If they are waiting for Ron Paul, I am afraid that they will be waiting forever. I heard Bill Clinton say on Letterman last night, that it is good to have a movement, but in order for a movement to be successfull, it can’t just be against something. It needs to define the goals and work toward those goals.

WASHINGTON — A senior American official is confirming the death of a top leader in the Haqqani network who played a central role in attacking coalition forces in Afghanistan.
Janbaz Zadran was killed Thursday in the Haqqani stronghold of Miram Shah in North Waziristan, Pakistan. The area has been targeted in CIA drone strikes in the past.
The U.S. official says Zadran’s death makes him the most senior Haqqani leader in Pakistan to be taken off the battlefield. The official says Zadran helped the Haqqani network orchestrate attacks on troops in Kabul and southeastern Afghanistan. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.

“The bill is something of a greatest hits of Republican economic proposals. It calls for tax reform that lowers tax rates, repeal of the new healthcare law, a balance budget amendment to the Constitution and expansion of offshore oil drilling.

Republicans said their bill would create jobs over time rather than aiming for immediate job growth through government spending.”

They claim it would create 5 million jobs over time. 1) I’d like to see independent economists make confirm that assessment. 2) This doesn’t address the immediate economic emergency.

President Obama will attend the Carrier Classic basketball game between the University of North Carolina and Michigan State on Veterans Day on the USS Carl Vinson.

White House spokesman Dan Pfeiffer announced the news on Twitter Thursday afternoon.

The USS Carl Vinson, as the Associated Press notes, is the aircraft carrier that buried Osama bin Laden at sea after the Al Qaeda leader was killed in a Navy SEALs raid.

“We’re honored that President Obama plans to attend the game on the Carl Vinson,” said Rear Admiral Dennis Moynihan, the Navy’s chief spokesman, according to the wire. “The ship is a representative of more than 100 Navy ships that are deployed right now. We see this as a celebration of service for all veterans, and we also see this as a great opportunity to showcase what our Navy does on a daily basis.”

Top Navy officials and congressional delegations from North Carolina and Michigan are expected to attend the game, and there will be appropriate security to accommodate the guests, according to the AP.

    for re-election/

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds)
took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple!
The people demanded it. That was in 1971 – before computers, e-mail,
    cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took one (1) year
or less to become the law of the land – all because of public pressure.

Warren Buffet is asking each addressee to forward this email to
a minimum of twenty people on their address list; in turn ask
each of those to do likewise.

In three days, most people in The United States of America will
have the message. This is one idea that really should be passed
    around.

    _*Congressional Reform Act of 2011*_

    1. No Tenure / No Pension.

A Congressman/woman collects a salary while in office and receives no
pay when they’re out of office.

    2. Congress (past, present & future) participates in Social
    Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the
Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into
the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the
American people. It may not be used for any other purpose.

    3. Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all
    Americans do.

    4. Congress will no longer vote themselves a pay raise.
Congressional pay will rise by the lower of CPI or 3%.

    5. Congress loses their current health care system and
participates in the same health care system as the American people.

    6. Congress must equally abide by all laws they impose on the
    American people.

    7. All contracts with past and present Congressmen/women are void
effective 1/1/12. The American people did not make this
    contract with Congressmen/women.

Congressmen/women made all these contracts for themselves. Serving in
Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers
envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their
term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will
only take three days for most people (in the U.S.) to receive
the message. Don’t you think it’s time?

THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

If you agree with the above, pass it on. If not, just delete.
You are one of my 20+ – Please keep it going, and thanks.

This would be best in a post/or site, so we could tweet/FB our faces off!

Tally, where did you find this? I don’t know how to take your post and send it along. Is there a reference site to go to?
Also, while we’re at it, I wish we could fix the Senate as well. Lifetime posts for senators who have long since lost touch with reality and have years to build a corrupt network of supporters has got to stop. Right now the Senate just doesn’t work. It’s a lot of highly paid people who sit around feeding their own egos.

The Senate approved Sung Y. Kim of California to be U.S. Ambassador to South Korea on Thursday, just minutes before South Korean President Lee Myung-bak planned to address a joint meeting of the U.S. Congress.

Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) made a unanimous consent request that the new ambassador be confirmed, which was quickly approved without objection.

Kerry also asked that in the near future, the Senate take up the nomination of Heather Higginbottom to be the Deputy Director for the Office of Management and Budget. Kerry said there would be four hours of debate on this nomination.
