If kids could vote…..

Yet another TOD post that has been reblogged by Jueseppi B, despite requests that he make his own effort to support PBO rather than copying others simply to drive up his reblog’s traffic. He doesn’t take kindly to being challenged, as another woman found out: explicit. Genuine bloggers are welcome to use anything they ever see at TOD. Thanks

All official White House photos …. except this one:

oh, and the recent one where the little girl is chasing PBO around the Oval Office. There are so many with kids. Then there’s one where a little boy is LATCHED around PBO’s neck with the most content smile on his face. while laying on PBO’s shoulder.

    The kids know. THEY KNOW!!

I notice in pictures of the president with babies and children, how he echoes their facial expressions and body language. That is why he draws people in, they always look comfortable and the babies smile so much. I’m sure it’s instinctive. I notice it more with children because their faces are more openly expressive, but it’s always present.

    Evening Everyone!

These are the absolute best pics Chips. I was gonna ask if you could make this into a video slideshow, but that reminded me — didn’t you already make one to that song “Sing”? Can’t remember the band’s name, but I kinda remember there was banjo playing in it. Beautiful! Do you have that one handly?

What a beautiful bouquet at the end of the day. So much wonder and love and respect in the eyes of these children. The older kids look like they’re trying to drink him in so that they’ll remember the day forever. I love all of them, but I’ve always especially loved the little girl with the face paint. The look on her face is pure loving awe.

TAMPA (The Borowitz Report)—With Hurricane Isaac heading towards the site of the 2012 Republican National Convention, presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney today called for the government to respond with a round of “emergency tax cuts.”

“If this hurricane is as powerful as predicted, it could destroy many people’s second and third homes,” Mr. Romney said.

Ryan says NH has ‘big responsibility’

At the Puritan Backroom, Paul Ryan shook hands with late-lunch diners before buying ice cream for himself and several others.

“Twenty dollars is all I have with me,” Ryan said after pulling the bill out of his front pocket.

The tab totaled $17.70. He kept the change.

Ryan signed Romney’s book, “No Apology,” “even though I didn’t write this book,” Ryan said.

The book’s owner, Maria Ryan, is CEO of Cottage Hospital in Woodsville. She said she backed Mitt Romney, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, and opposed Obama’s health care law.

Not everybody in the room was ready to vote for the Romney-Ryan ticket.

Ryan tried to identify the ice cream flavors in Elaine Tefft’s banana split, guessing blueberry for what really was black raspberry.

“That thing’s huge,” Ryan said, describing the expansive ice cream dish.

Tefft, a registered independent, said she hasn’t settled on a presidential candidate, looking for more information from Romney and the other major candidates.

“I want to see the tax returns before I make up my mind,” Tefft said. “I do want to see those 10 years of tax returns from everybody.”

It is shameful. I appreciated that POTUS understood the child was seriously troubled at what he saw and PO calmed him down to let him know that yes it was real BUT he could/would handle it. This child has a beautiful spirit.

Someone sent me this great editorial from The Economist of all places: http://www.economist.com/node/21560864?frsc=dg%7Ca

    Some choice quotes:
“But competence is worthless without direction and, frankly, character. Would that Candidate Romney had indeed presented himself as a solid chief executive who got things done. Instead he has appeared as a fawning PR man, apparently willing to do or say just about anything to get elected.”

“Behind all this sits the worrying idea of a man who does not really know his own mind. America won’t vote for that man; nor would this newspaper.”

“He has threatened to label China as a currency manipulator on the first day of his presidency. Even if it is unclear what would follow from that, risking a trade war with one of America’s largest trading partners when the recovery is so sickly seems especially mindless. ”

“And it is all very well promising to repeal Barack Obama’s health-care plan and the equally gargantuan Dodd-Frank act on financial regulation, but what exactly will Mr Romney replace them with—unless, of course, he thinks Wall Street was well-regulated before Lehman went bust?”

“A businessman without a credible plan to fix a problem stops being a credible businessman. So does a businessman who tells you one thing at breakfast and the opposite at supper.”

Of course given the source, it is NOT an endorsement for PBO but is a scathing indictment of Romney from a publication that you’d expect to be backing him.

Given the folk who consider The Economist their ‘daily bread’ - that will definitely do damage to #BainMitt. Pragmatic biz folk, world over (including many in the US), who would typically be inclined to go with the GOP biz guy, know how much President Obama has already done for the global economy and this article will severely lessen any support they might have had for the other guy.

    • 144 susanne
      August 25, 2025 at 10:32 pm

as i recall, the economist endorsed obama in 2008. since then, they’ve carped that he didn’t get the rethugs on board to re-light the american economic engine. lately, they’ve been leaning toward romney, but i don’t think they actually like him. here’s the last line from their article titled ‘the changing man':

‘ The most fungible of candidates will attempt to reinvent himself once again, as a likeable guy. Whether voters will find his latest incarnation any more consistent or credible than the previous ones remains to be seen. ‘

      an interesting read.

There’s another article written titled - So, Mitt, what do you really believe? | The Economist http://econ.st/PIcOpW

It’s okay, but I HATE double-standards. PBO is an exceptional President and because of Romney’s $, gender, party affiliation and color, he’s been given a pass on his incompetency and lies. The last sentence in the article reads “It is not too late for Mr Romney to show America’s voters that he is a man who can lead his party rather than be led by it. But he has a lot of questions to answer in Tampa.”

So I registered to this bulletin and wrote the 522nd comment below. Of course the usual idiotic non-factual talking points by the right are also in the comments. Anyway, I wrote….

It is too late for Romney. He’s the worst nominee for this powerful position ever.

President Obama is being faulted for NOT fixing fast enough a disgusting economy mis-managed by the Republicans and worsened by this 112th Congress. There is NO-ONE better in managing every situation a President has responsibility over than the man who currently holds this office. It’s not “So, Mitt what do you really believe?” It’s “Why are people so willing to NOT believe in THIS President?” (and believe me I know the ‘real’ answer to that).

Somebody at Fox News should go to jail for this… straight to jail.
    ——————-

Fox News’ Selfish Partisan Evil Endangers Navy SEAL
    http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/fox-news-selfish-partisan-evil-endangers-na

On Thursday, Fox News outed the identity of a Navy SEAL who co-wrote a book on the Osama bin Laden raid. I won’t link you to the article nor will I tell you the name they published, but their abject evil in promoting the OpSec group as endangering national security while outing the name of one of the people actually involved in the mission should be obvious.

Today, Fox News should be concerned about national security all over again, and their role in endangering it. Via Think Progress, this news:

“NBC News reports that users on websites affiliated with al-Qaeda have posted the name and photo of an American Navy SEAL who led the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. The New York Times reported this week that the SEAL, writing under the pseudonym Mark Owen, wrote a book documenting the events of the raid — news that came as a surprise to the industryand even the U.S. government.”

There’s a line somewhere in all of this that shouldn’t be crossed. I’m all for transparency, but not when it endangers someone else’s life. Valerie Plame’s outing should have been enough for all of us to understand.

That’s probably true unless you’re Fox News and you have a deep vested interest in: a) electing Mitt Romney president; and b) promoting the agendas of Republican retired military operatives who want to elect Mitt Romney. In their bloodlust, they thought nothing of publishing the name of someone who served their country and risked his life to do it… [more in the article]

I don’t really care about this greedy navy seal. I think he endangered his own unit by writing this book just to make money and embarrass Obama admin,

    • 159 meta
      August 25, 2025 at 11:00 pm

I think it’s very disconcerting that the book was written without informing the military or the WH. The CIA usually vets these kinds of things. This is a very serious breach of protocol.

      • 160 Dudette
        August 25, 2025 at 11:13 pm

Plenty of blame to go around, but he was an anonymous, greedy bastard, who broke the law. Then FoxNews in their zeal to try and discredit the President, put not only the author’s life in jeopardy, but real life people associated with him, who may or may not have anything to do with the Navy or government. So now we’re gonna have to pay to put these folks deep undercover.

Remember when some of us were wondering what the hell was up with Wyclef Jean performing at the RNC convention? Well, it looks like he’s been now replaced by someone else. Note that this is the fourth person scheduled for this particular event…First it was Willie Nelson, then he pulled out due to some “scheduling conflict” and was replaced by Randy Travis, and you know what happened with THAT ONE, who was then replaced by Wyclef Jean, who is now replaced by someone named Sara Evans! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

      • 169 hopefruit2
        August 25, 2025 at 11:09 pm

Since the article failed to mention the reason for his replacement, something tells me it may very well have had something to do with Romney’s birther comment. After all, Wyclef is an immigrant. If that’s really the case then maybe he should have first considered his racial and immigrant status before signing on to do anything with the RNC. I hope he learns his lesson in that vein.

OT/  / I figured you guys could appreciate this little email interaction between a friend and I - a friend I hadn’t spoken to in several months, and one who had been initially quite surprised to learn of my obsession keen interest in things Obama.
    ——————————————————————————————
FRIEND: …enjoying the summer. The boys and I have been criss-crossing the US. We are back now and I wanted to let you know that I’ve been thinking about you.

    ME (VC): …….
Criss-crossing the US and you didn’t pre-warn me? Suppose I had wanted to send a personal message to my boyfriend? Did you see him by any chance? Were you in Washington DC? On second thoughts you better not admit it if you did see him, and/or his wife and daughters because that would just rile me up. I’ve actually been fine, just a wee bit more antisocial than usual - I’m calling it my period of introspection. Can’t tell yet how much longer it will last…
[The last part was me deviously setting the stage for people to leave me alone so that I can focus more time on TODville, without having to answer the phone too often or deny invitations for get-togethers ;) ]

FRIEND: Well, if you were being a little more social… you would have told me you guys were still an item because while in Chicago I did visit his house!!! Yes indeed, I did!

Though he was out at the time, I could have left a note for you…spice things up a bit, you know. Could have slipped it to the secret service stationed outside his door, Michelle wouldn’t even have to know.

Hey girl, get out of your shell ‘cause you’re missing out! Look at what I could have done for you.

I noted earlier on Twitter that everyone’s getting a kick out of that irony. Certainly don’t want anyone impacted by Isaac, around Tampa and beyond, but I do intend to laugh that some of the RNC “festivities” have to be rescheduled. Ha ha ha. Take that, crooks and liars and thieves and racists who seem to make up the majority of the GOP, these days.

So tell me, how effective is the RNC going to be in emphasizing their “We built this (with no government assistance)” theme when Rick Scott and other governors in predominantly Repub states are asking for government help for hurricane/weathe-related disaster relief? The governor of Alabama has already cancelled his trip to the convention entirely. Something tells me that Bobby Jindal will follow suit very soon.

Same as the adults, they’re knowledgeable about him, excited to be near him, and they ooze oodles of love for him. Looking at these photos make my heart go a flutter.

On another note, is there an award that we can nominate you to receive for your work on this site? You truly deserve it and so much more. Although, I only post from time to time, I visit several times daily for my shot of love.

very informative and helpful for all-and clearly a result of pbo’s initiatives in putting govt info on the web where folks can get it easily. ironically, it should help the rethugs with their tampa problem!

Crist is not one of these extreme radical right wing nut. These people who sat on their butts as this President tried to get this country back on the right track. Mitch McConnell give the orders and in the Senate all they did was block and filibuster anything which could help this economy and put people back to work. If McConnell and the Republicans had put the country first, instead of bringing down this black President, the economy would be stronger. And the tea party idiots in the House, with that sorry speaker Boehner deserve just as much blame as McConnell. And now they have the nerve to blame President Obama because the economy is not where it should be. These extreme radical Republicans are the reason the economy is not stronger. And I pray American voters will use the common sense the good Lord gave them. Now these extreme Republicans have put forth this lying flip flop man, with no core, who will say anything he has too. My hope and pray is there are Republicans out there who just feel that the party they used to know have gone to far, that this is not the party they remember, and they will decide to vote for this decent man, where they might not agree with him on everything, but they see a someone who is doing his best for the people of this country, all the people. Maybe these sensible Republicans will vote for President Obama. That’s my hope.
