The President Gets 3D Printed…Zot!…Zot!…Zot! Thanks Jay!

Tanya Lewis: Obama Gets First 3D-Printed Presidential Portrait

To his list of firsts, Barack Obama can add that he was the first U.S. President to have himself scanned and 3D printed. Obama’s 3D-printed bust and mold of his face were on display Wednesday (June 18) at the first-ever White House Maker Faire, a celebration of students and entrepreneurs who are using technology to create new products and businesses, according to the Smithsonian Institution. A team of Smithsonian 3D digital-imaging specialists scanned the president earlier this year. They used the University of Southern California’s Light Stage face scanner to capture Obama’s face in high resolution,

and handheld 3D scanners and SLR cameras to create a reconstruction of his bust. Next, experts in 3D graphics at the software company Autodesk produced high-resolution models, which were printed using 3D Systems’ selective laser sintering printers. The scans and printed models will become part of a collection at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, which showcases multiple images of each president. The 3D portraits will be added to the museum’s current collection of works representing Obama.

3D printers are so fascinating. We took the crumb snatchers to the science center here in Phoenix and I saw one for the first time. I spent so much time studying it and asking questions that I was getting the stink eye from the kids by the time my wife pulled me away.

From the bottom of the previous thread …. please support him …

    Am impressed with Amardeep Kaleka

I think he’s just the person to defeat Paul Ryan …

Kaleka sounds like an amazing guy. I hope with all my heart that he can defeat the smarmy one. What a great victory for the people–the real America–that would be.

He’s on Real Time with Bill Maher.

I was flipping channels and when I saw he was on the panel, I changed the channel. He’s a scumbag. I’ll switch back when Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park is being interviewed because Linkin Park is freaking awesome.

There seems to have been little released from the Snowdon files related to “american people’s rights being violated”. Rather there has been much unrest created between different countries – e.g. Australia and Indonesia – what does that relationship have to do with the rights of the American people?

Happy to see that Jay Carney will be in touch, but his tenure as Press Secretary will be hard to match.

The 3-D bust of PBO is cool, but I much prefer the full-color version to the pasty white shade.

The 3-D bust reminded me of the ’08 campaign, when my friend said she wanted to send me a full-size cardboard cut-out of Joe Biden for my bedroom, but thought my family would think I’d gone mad. I told her something like “you can always get another family.”

Ukraine, Iraq & Iran presumable topics …

    • June 20, 2014 at 11:06 pm

“MS. PSAKI: Well, to be clear, and I used social media to tweet about this earlier today, but there was a report about comments I made that were comments I never made, and so I would first clarify that. But I would say broadly speaking that the tactics of fabricated news stories and a range of vicious personal attacks that I and others have been a victim of are not steps you take when you’re operating from a position of strength. And there’s no question that the more we talk about our support for a strong, sovereign Ukraine, the greater the attacks become, so I will leave it to others to draw their own conclusions on that front.”

Would urge all of you to read her Press Briefing from earlier today …

      (Scroll to Ukraine)

… and, btw, US Treasury announced sanctions on 7 more individuals though their identities have not been made public yet. Expect quite a bit of activity next week as SOS Kerry meets with NATO allies.

For all you football fans, I presume Costa Rica defeating Italy is a big deal …. was such an outcome totally unexpected or is Costa Rica considered a very strong contender?

Remarkable how closely aligned the #Kochs & their #Bircher brethren are to Tzar Vlad …

“It’s been compared to a consensual hallucination and even likened to a collective hit of cocaine.

It may have been a masterstroke that reset Russia’s political agenda and saved Vladimir Putin’s regime. Or it may turn out to be a fleeting phenomenon that results in a big national hangover.

It is the return of the Russian messianic idea.”

US Government Sanctions Additional 7 Persons for Ukraine
    03:28 (GMT)

The U.S. Treasury Department has sanctioned an additional seven persons “for threatening the territorial integrity of Ukraine”, the department announced 20 June on its web site.

They are all pro-Russian separatists active in the southeast of Ukraine.
