I don’t know Jackie, but what worries me is just like in the U.S. we can’t control what some gun nut does……the IDF/Bibi will claim any rocket launched is a ‘Hamas’ rocket justifying any further escalation. So even if ‘official’ Hamas says/does one thing… they don’t control the actions of everybody in Gaza. It is a sad story that has been repeating itself for far too long.

      Hi, LP.

      What is it with Indiana?

Republicans in charge ——that’s what’s wrong with Indiana. As elsewhere.

      • July 16, 2014 at 7:36 pm

The Indiana state house is absolutely bananas…..Led by Gov. Mike Pence. The day he stepped down as the #3 in the House of Rep. I knew he was going to run for President. He is the greatest illusionist since Houdini…has everyone fooled. Somehow Indianapolis is the 2nd largest city w/ a GOP Mayor…..basically party ticket voting for Pence got him there, but he is in trouble now. The U.S. attorney for the Southern District just resigned Monday http://www.indystar.com/story/news/politics/2014/07/14/hogsett-resigning-us-attorney/12621475/ and has a good chance to be Mayor Ballard. I never thought I would look at the days of Mitch Daniels favorably….he got us a Super Bowl & now is President of Purdue University. I didn’t live in the state when Evan Bayh was Gov. and thank god Joe Donnelly won his Senate seat b/c of a nut job Tea Party guy Richard Mourdock. To be a statewide D in Indiana you have to be pretty conservative, but Donnelly does not take pot shots at President Obama. Basically there is no bench here….Rep. Andre Carson has the most name recognition, but he is an African American Muslim…..not going to fly statewide sadly. I don’t know if you can run for Gov. & President in Indiana…..so when Pence runs….maybe there will be an opening, but I’m sure Evan Bayh will run again……he still has 10+ million in campaign cash that he never helped national D’s w/ after not running in 2012.

What an insane way to live. There seems to be no decent, clear-thinking, peace-seeking leaders in that region. And I think of all the kids there who are having to grow up in that environment, forever damaged and hateful, producing the next generation of the continued killing and violent unrest—-

On the domestic front, something that the GOP/MSM/KochBrothers would rather you know nothing about:

    From the article:
Obama Administration Seeks End to Tax Inversion Deals
    July 16, 2014 12:12 pm

“In letters sent to four lawmakers, Treasury Secretary Jacob J. Lew said the administration supported a quick fix that would halt the trend of so-called inversions, in which United States companies buy a smaller competitor and reincorporate overseas to save money on taxes.

Speaking at the CNBC Delivering Alpha conference on Wednesday, Mr. Lew called for legislation that would include a package of business reforms, one of which would bring tax levels of companies in the 20 percent range.”

20% tax on “corporations are people too” is not unreasonable, but this is a rallying cry for the ignorant who support the GOP, while at the same time saying “we can’t afford to help the homeless.”

The problem is Hamas. If Gaza took a poll of Hamas, I bet they get very low approval.
Sort of like t baggers here.
And it gives an excuse to Israel to bomb Gaza and the majority of Palestinians, whom they fundamentally dislike.
So, it’s both sides, and might be small but powerful fractions of both sides.
    That is all!

      July 16, 2014 at 7:59 pm

      I agree.

    • July 16, 2014 at 8:07 pm

when ever I hear this discussion…when trying to place blame…it is a lot like which came first the chicken or egg….I am also reminded of the speech that the President made last year appealing to the Israeli youth to forge a different path…

    • July 16, 2014 at 8:30 pm

I’d say the problem is more like a certain psychopath that deliberately sabotages peace negotiations and will use any excuse available to strike the people he hates with over the top force. He manages to keep getting elected so he can continue his insanity and have the people that elected him pull out law chairs and watch his insanity in action.

And as has been reported he abhors the very thought of a two state solution. No he’s a bigger problem than Hamas will ever be.

Your comment brings to mind that Malcolm X quote that is posted on this site periodically. Here is a thought experiment. What if the U.S. responded to the terror attack in Benghazi that killed four Americans by indiscriminate bombing of Libya resulting in almost 250 deaths (including 4 kids playing soccer)? Add to that it appeared that those kids were hit on purpose. Or the U.S. bombed a hospital for disabled people? Would you be saying the U.S. and Libya are equally to blame? If not, why the double standard for Israel? Because the MSM says so? Let’s not forget the shelling of Lebanon that Israel unleashed after an Israeli soldier was killed. The reaction of Israel in these situations are over the top by any human measure. There is a bloodlust that is undeniable. Add to that the constant theft of land, and I find it difficult to agree with the premise that “both sides are to blame”.

        July 16, 2014 at 10:07 pm

Eric, this is very well said and I agree with you completely. We are blessed to have a leader whose response to crises is measured, intelligent and appropriate, despite all the calls from the clueless and violence prone to bring out the big guns of revenge. Israel is cursed with the opposite leadership. Overreact to everything, make the worst of a difficult situation and cause maximum damage and tragedy. It is up to the Israeli people to change this because it will not end well for them if this goes on. There is no future in continued violence and there is not future in repression and apartheid.

I just wanted to say something about Jonathan Turley who testified in support of the lawsuit against PBO today——said Congress “must act” to support this lawsuit. I keep seeing him identified as “a liberal Democrat”. Well—–in all my years of observing him, my opinion is he is as much a liberal Democrat as is Rand Paul. Turley is a libertarian, just like the Paul boys. And I saw that he said today that he “voted for Obama”, in an effort to give his negative Obama testimony more credence. I do not believe that for a minute. I know he lied about that. If he has ever said anything positive about PBO I haven’t heard it. He has been a constant Obama critic from the get go, from 2008 on——every TV appearance that I have ever seen. I think he’s a dishonest fraud.

    • 52 hopefruit2
      July 16, 2014 at 7:54 pm

Yup – as I said before, Surley Turley is a Libertarian hack! And people who truly support our President don’t need to preface their actions/words with “I voted for Obama” That is a dead giveaway that someone is full of it.

Such a beautiful picture. Notice how perfect her dress stands out all the way around; does anyone remember the balloon slip?
They were the best if you wanted that “perfect” dress standout.

      Balloon slips : ) – really?
yes, for the young people here, there was a “real balloon slip” that you actually huffed and puffed to blow it up just right, and it had the little stopper on it to plug it.

1st thing that came to mind when I saw this picture.

The gazillionaire tycoons have invested big in the space business. And the military likes what they’ve built. The Pentagon’s premier research division (DARPA) wants to design an advanced spacecraft that engineers have tried and failed to build for years. So they’ve enlisted the help of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Sir Richard Branson, naturally. No, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has not lost its marbles; it’s just that Branson’s Virgin Galactic and Bezos’ Blue Origin companies have technology the Pentagon needs to reduce the exorbitant cost of space flight.

While both Branson and Bezos are known as magnates in other industries, both men have a large interest in forwarding the human exploration of space.Branson, for example, founded Virgin Galactic specifically as a space tourism company to allow the common—if extraordinarily wealthy—citizen to experience the thrill of leaving the Earth’s surly bounds. Bezos—who has many business interests outside Amazon–founded Blue Origin specifically to further human space flight at low cost. The company is working on a rocket that can take off and land vertically like a helicopter..cont

So much sadness in the news today. The pain of losing a child is unbearable, so much killing going on, so much.

Dudette, this is a good time for Marvin Gaye; “What’s Going On?”

House Passes Spending Bill Slashing Funding For Wall Street Oversight

In addition, the bill would prevent the government from implementing a slew of rules on everything from derivatives and political spending disclosures to major parts of Obama’s signature healthcare reform law.

The legislation mandates six days of mail delivery by the U.S. Postal Service, which has been looking for ways to cut costs.

The bill would prevent the District of Columbia from using federal funds to pay for abortions and implement rules that decriminalize marijuana use.

An unexplained Gigantic Sink Hole in Serbia? Wow…..scary, indeed.

A huge unexplained crater has appeared in Siberia, Northern Russia.
The Gas rich area where the hole was discovered – which is the main production area for Russian gas supplies to Europe – is called Yamal which translates to ”end of the world”.

The strange emergence of the hole has resulted in internet theories ranging from a possible UFO landing to a large meteor striking the earth.
The most plausible of the theories is that global warming caused an underground explosion due to melting ice, resulting in a mixture of gas, salt and water which could have ignited and exploded. This would explain the darkened sides of the hole which could be burn marks.

Eric responded to me upstream about Israel/Hamas.
Hamas is aligned with Iranian hard line positions, and are well funded by them.
Hamas is also launching several Katyusha rockets onto Tel Aviv. If it were not for Iron Dome, many Israelis would now be dead.
Thus, I disagree with both sides strongly.

I’m starting to see this pattern where frustrated people are staying home from the polls so the worst of the worst get elected and screw up everything. Then the people suffer for it and finally open their eyes to see that they can make a difference. So they go back voting for people who give a damn. At least I hope that’s where were are in the world right now. Australia is just at the beginning of that cycle. If not, they’re just fucked… make that WE’RE all just fucked.
