Jobs For Veterans. Thanks, President Obama

****

PBS: White House Announces Plan To Train 50,000 People, Including Veterans, To Install Solar Panels

The U.S. is planning to train veterans to become solar panel installers in the next six years. The jobs training program is among a host of initiatives the White House says will cut carbon dioxide emissions by more than 300 million tons through 2030, plus save billions of dollars on energy bills for homeowners and businesses. It will launch this fall at one or more military bases and train a total of at least 50,000, including veterans.

The Agriculture Department will also spend nearly $70 million to fund 540 solar and renewable energy projects, focused on rural and farming areas. And the Energy Department will propose stricter efficiency standards for commercial air conditioners, a move the department said could cut emissions more than any other efficiency standard it has issued to date.

Hey everyone, was away from here the last couple of hours, came back and found half of you in spam.

My efforts to stop cursing are being seriously tested.

I’m in the middle of an email exchange with Akismet (the people who look after WordPress spam) asking them to fix the madness (which has got worse!1!1), so we’ll see what happens.

They generally ask WordPress commenters who incorrectly have their comments marked as spam to contact them directly:

“We’ll have him/her fill out a particular form that will help us to identify what part of their comments may (or may not) be tripping the Akismet filtration. The easiest way for them to do this is through http://www.akismet.com/contact - if they search for “Spam,” an option will come up where they can select “I’ve been incorrectly marked as spam.”

You can do that here: http://akismet.com/contact/

What I noticed tonight was that most - not all - of the comments dumped in spam were just tweets, with no accompanying comment/text, so just as a test, when you’re posting a tweet, could you put a word or two with it - even just ‘bla bla bla’ :-) - to see if that will stop it happening?

Thanks for your patience everyone, it’s a pain in the butt.

Another problem with SS surfaced a few days ago:

Secret Service boss pulled on-duty agents from White House, sent them on personal mission; Homeland Security general calls incident ‘problematic’
The agents were asked to leave their posts and drive 50 minutes away from the White House to check in on a Secret Service assistant after her neighbor allegedly harassed her, a new investigation reported Wednesday. The bizarre five-day protective mission happened three years ago. President Obama was at the White House for at least two of those days, but the general said his safety was never in jeopardy.

A group of Secret Services agents who were supposed to be protecting the White House bailed on their posts to defend their coworker from her pesky neighbor, according to a new investigation.

On at least five days — two of which President Obama was at the White House — on-duty agents drove 50 minutes away to check in on their boss’s assistant, a Wednesday memo from Homeland Security Department’s inspector general obtained by the Associated Press reported. While the report called the incidents “problematic,” it maintained that Obama’s safety was never in jeopardy.

The memo comes as Congress is investigating the Secret Service over a string of security breaches, including September incident where a knife-wielding man scaled the White House fence and ran into the East Room.

The bizarre five-day “Operation Moonlight” occurred three years ago, the Wednesday memo reported.

    [snip]

The team documented five days of visits, the longest of which lasted eight hours.

Preventing infectious disease is important business. If humanity perishes, chances are an infectious disease will be the culprit. The issue is too important to be used as a political bean bag tossed about by knaves and fools. good trends in wisconsin. rasmussen poll, which election after election is proven to skew substantially toward republicans, just now has mary burke with a 1% lead on the odious drop-out walker. this is after michelle’s visits and 2 debates, and burke was down by 2% last time rasmussen was there. a milwaukee polling group had her pick up 5% last week, and The President is coming on monday. trends are so important at this stage of an election. this would be a huge pick up.

    http://www.ibtimes.com/susana-martinez-spying-accusation-new-mexico-governor-spokesman-responds-claims-political-1710056

New evidence suggests New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez and her campaign staff used federal databases and resources to spy on Democrats during her first run for governor in 2010, according to a press release Wednesday from a New Mexico advocacy group called ProgressNowNM. Emails previously released by the group showed then-District Attorney Martinez’s top prosecutor and investigator emailing internal case files and evidence from investigations into GOP voter fraud to her campaign manager days before the election.

“First we found that prosecutors and investigators tipped off Republican operatives about an investigation into GOP voter fraud just before the election and now we learn that anyone with a Democratic bumper sticker was subject to spying and a background check,” said Patrick Davis, spokesman for ProgressNowNM, in the press release.

Don’t forget now…we’re both the same! NOT.

I do agree ‘they need to do something’,, FORUS and I am encouraged that this time they used the dogs as they are supposed to. I think SS need to used the resources they already have. Last time I was incensed that the snipers thought they were on the roof, or wherever, for their ‘pretty looks’! I’m not suggesting they shoot to kill in these instances, but snipers are supposed to be sharpshooters, so I didn’t understand why they hadn’t disabled the runner before he reached the WH doors. What’s the point of having trained sharpshooters if all they know how to do is shoot to kill?

Here now, Nena! You’re implying that someone likely to try this idiocy is a thinker.

For me, I don’t want them to kill the intruder right off IF there is no immediate evidence they intend harm. I’m actually not in favour of law enforcement killing as a first option since I happen to feel that ‘dead men tell no tales’. I’m always curious as to the person’s rationale. I want them to slow down and disable the intruder. In fact if they do a good job in this area the disabled intruder will have lots of pain-filled time to practise how to THINK!

Here’s something that I don’t understand…….I would like very much to either be talked down or be educated to think differently on this topic.
    Here it goes:
I don’t get why any country would stop these Converts to Islam from going to Syria. If they want to go and fight, let them…….but pass a law or say to those who go and join with ISIL/Daesh that once you are there fighting, YOUR passport is no longer allowed to travel back to say, Canada, USA, Belgium, UK, France, etc. Work with Turkey and once these Terrorists wannabees go to Syria and joins ISIL/Daesh, then render their passports useless, period. I wish that will be done with those who have left from MN to go fight in East Africa, Syria or Libya. Like that commercial once said: Roaches, they can check in, but they can’t check out. In this case, these Islamists, they can check in to Syria, East Africa or Libya, but they can NEVER check back in to their original countries.

“Had the state used its public health powers more robustly, health care workers who treated Duncan might not have been circulating in public, and much of the ensuing panic could have been stilled,” the Texas Tribune wrote on Wednesday.

Perhaps cognizant of this fact, Perry in early October announced the creation of a task force focused on improving the state’s response to potential outbreaks of infectious diseases. One of the recommendations called for legislation that would expand the state’s power to enforce quarantines. Under current law, per the Tribune, state officials could only enforce a quarantine order via law enforcement after a person explicitly violated the order by leaving the designated premises.

Perry also came under fire from Democrats for failing to cancel a scheduled trip to Europe, where he hoped to burnish his foreign policy credentials ahead of a possible presidential campaign. The governor was forced to return to Texas after Vinson became the second person to test positive for the deadly virus.

Radek Sikorski, the Polish Foreign Minister between 2007 and this past September, made headlines this week thanks to a controversial and important interview given to Politico’s Ben Judah. In the interview Sikorski broke a lot of news. He insinuated that the Kremlin was behind 1999 apartment bombings, he said that the Kremlin has sent “death squads abroad,” and of course he criticized Moscow’s dealings in Ukraine.

But the biggest bombshell — Sikorski said that not only had Putin tried to blackmail ousted Ukrainian president Yanukovych by saying that Russia would annex Crimea if Ukraine joined the European Union, but he went further — saying that Putin tried to get Poland to divide up Ukraine:

“He wanted us to become participants in this partition of Ukraine,” says Sikorski. “Putin wants Poland to commit troops to Ukraine. These were the signals they sent us. … We have known how they think for years. We have known this is what they think for years. This was one of the first things that Putin said to my prime minister, Donald Tusk, [soon to be President of the European Council] when he visited Moscow. He went on to say Ukraine is an artificial country and that Lwow is a Polish city and why don’t we just sort it out together. Luckily Tusk didn’t answer. He knew he was being recorded.””
