Another interesting essay by Paul Krugman, whom, for a very long time, I gave zero bandwidth for reasons I’m sure I don’t have to explain to TOD ….
“And here’s what’s interesting: all indications are that Mr. Bush’s attacks on Mr. Trump are falling flat, because the Republican base doesn’t actually share the Republican establishment’s economic delusions.
The thing is, we didn’t really know that until Mr. Trump came along. The influence of big-money donors meant that nobody could make a serious play for the G.O.P. nomination without pledging allegiance to supply-side doctrine, and this allowed the establishment to imagine that ordinary voters shared its antipopulist creed. Indeed, Mr. Bush’s hapless attempt at a takedown suggests that his political team still doesn’t get it, and thinks that pointing out The Donald’s heresies will be enough to doom his campaign.
But Mr. Trump, who is self-financing, didn’t need to genuflect to the big money, and it turns out that the base doesn’t mind his heresies. This is a real revelation, which may have a lasting impact on our politics.
Again, I’m not making a case for Mr. Trump. There are lots of other politicians out there who also refuse to buy into right-wing economic nonsense, but who do so without proposing to scour the countryside in search of immigrants to deport, or to rip up our international economic agreements and start a trade war. The point, however, is that none of these reasonable politicians is seeking the Republican presidential nomination.”
For some Dems laughing at Trump…….be very careful.
Why?
1……He talks of tax increase for some Hedge Funders.
2……He talks about Healthy Care for those who aren’t able to pay or take care of themselves.
3……He talks about Never a Cut or Privatization to the Social Security.
4……He talks about the Corruption of Money and the Influence of Lobbyists in our political system.
5……He talks about building Infrastructure.
Just on those 5 points alone, I can see enough Dems crossing over to vote for Trump, thereby, negating the Latino Votes……enough to win….especially, if Bernie Sanders somehow were to be have been selected as the Dem Nominee.

So now Mr. Trump deserves to be fellated for not being as crazy when it comes to economics as his fellow Republicans are? Sorry Mr. Krugman, I mean I’ll put out at the end of the date. But you got to at least buy me dinner first.
Don, your considerable talent for humor aside, what Paul Krugman notes is an important insight, particularly for Dems. The right wing base is now demonstrating that right wing, ‘conservative,’ ‘supply-side economics not only does not motivate them, but the opposite sits quite well with them. Trump has exposed the myth and that’s the kind of humint that’s invaluable to political strategists willing to take notice.
Bobfr, I have a lot of respect for you. But Trump has as many divorces as he does bankruptcies, he hasn’t exposed any myth. The myth that right wing, ‘conservative,’ supply-side economics really works has been exposed a long time ago. The only thing that Trump did was to say that it doesn’t work while at the same time leading the polls as the top Republican vote getter. Believe you me if Trump was a middle of the pack vote getter he’d be singing the same economic bullshit song as the rest of them. Krugman was right in one respect, Trump doesn’t have to sing for his supper like the rest of the Republicans.
I agree, Bob. And as toxic as Trump is, his candidacy may accomplish a good thing, by blowing up the ideological basis of the GOP, and exposing their racism to its fullest. No more dog whistle, it’s all out front. Their economic theories are a sham for enriching their billionaire donors.
I agree Prettyfoot58. Trump exposes the fact that the GOP (rich folks) used racial animus to get poor white people to vote against their own financial interests, Trump is offering unfiltered white supremacy with a populist touch which has rich folks shitting the bed
President Obama said that selecting Joe Biden as his running mate was the smartest decision he has ever made. I think before President Obama made his decision on selecting Joe Biden he looked Joe in the eye and asked him is there anything I need to be concerned about before I make my decision. Joe looked President Obama squarely in the eyes and said no. President Obama took Joe at his word.
I remember in high school taking math, math was my worst subject and I hated it. I hated it because my teachers always wanted us to show how we got the answer. I feel as though I’m back in high school and I have to show my work, bella, please don’t make me show how I came to my conclusion about President Obama and VP Biden and Hillary Clinton. Love you!
Very strange nonsense out of Bernie today. I think he is saying that PBO told us all to go home the day after he was elected in 2008, and leave him to do the rest alone.
I must have missed that speech. (!!!)
Yep! Every time the President spoke he always said “we the people’ have to take back our democracy, that he can’t do it alone. OFA’s main goal was to show how we need to change the discussion to empower, include, and respect. After 2012 they included to act.
Sanders just alienated a large chunk of Obama supporters. Apparently he has been asleep or just choose to lie. I can’t believe he said that. PBO has been able to get a lot of his programs done simply by engaging the community and businesses. Also, when PBO advocated $15 an hour, several companies did it. Sanders is feeling himself. He is bragging that HRC is getting nervous.
What this reveals about Bernie is a total lack of political skill and savvy. It is not a difficult thing to acknowledge the authentic accomplishments of the President you wish to succeed (thus finding common ground with his supporters) while saying you intend to build on them.
personally, I made the choice, long ago, not to waste my time on him or other “candidates” until such a time when this campaign begins to make more sense;
however, having read your tweets, I think you may have to ask him why he is running against PBO versus the gop - directing his venom at PBO ?
Aren’t there enough gop harmful policies to criticize?
“In my view”….Well BS you need to get some G.D. glasses because MY view as a SEVEN YEAR PBO supporter he called on US, WE THE PEOPLE who helped get him elected to call Congress and Senators to push his agenda….many of which BS voted against.
Watch: Black Man Pulled Over in RI for Driving With Air Freshener in Windshield
“Air fresheners? That’s the reason you pulled me over?” Dana Harris Jr. asked when an officer explained why he was stopped.

A video of a Providence, R.I., white officer stopping a 23-year-old black man for, driving with an air freshener dangling from his car windshield has gone viral.
Dana Harris Jr. uploaded a cellphone video on YouTube after he was stopped in Mount Hope, R.I., by Providence Officer Brian Murphy on Aug. 24, according to Raw Story.
The shaky cellphone video shows a police car with flashing lights pull up behind Harris as he records the scene.
Here is the exchange in part, according to video:
“What’s the problem, big dude?” Harris says, turning the camera back on himself.
“You seen me come out of my driveway,” Harris states. “What did I do wrong?”
“License and registration, sir,” Murphy asks.
“I have a cousin who’s a Providence police officer for 23 years,” Harris says. “What’s the problem? … I’m tired of this. I’m not a gangster. I’m not a thug.”
“Insurance?” the officer asks.
After reviewing the paperwork, the officer returns it, and nods at the windshield, saying, “You can’t have this obstructing your view.”
“Come on, are you serious?”
“Yeah, I’m serious, you can’t have that there.”
“Air fresheners?” Harris asks incredulously. “That’s the reason you pulled me over?”
“Yep,” the officer says, but doesn’t give Harris a ticket.
And then people wonder why SOME in the AA community distrust the police. When the police pull over a white guy it is an inconvenience to the white guy that got pulled over. But when the police pull over an AA, trust me, all kinds of thoughts are going to that AA’s mind. That is the state we presently live in. And there you have it, a fucking air freshener.
He was pulled over because they are looking for a relative who has a warrant, that is no excuse to pull someone over not give them a ticket because you are looking for a relative who lives at the same residence. Now that relative knows NOT to go to that address ever…smart move officer.
Throughout American history the rich have used the threat of Black folks gaining something to get whites to accept less. This is a twisted mentality has been a fact of American life for centuries. In fact, much social legislation like Social Security had to first take measures to ensure Blacks would not benefit before it had enough votes for passage (domestics were originally excluded from coverage in an attempt to prevent Black folks from benefitting from the legislation). White supremacy and religious/social issues have been the reason the majority of whites vote for the GOP. How an Ohio reporter helped convict more than 100 rapists
On a recent Tuesday morning, members of the DNA Cold Case task force in Cleveland, Ohio, gathered for their weekly meeting. The conference room filled with detectives, prosecutors, a crime analyst, several victim advocates—and one journalist. Rachel Dissell is a reporter for The Plain Dealer, one of two who first uncovered and wrote about neglected rape kits at the Cleveland Police Department in 2010. Dissell has been covering the ongoing story ever since.
The meeting started as it usually does with “all hands on deck” cases—the ones running up against the statute of limitations—then moved to other open investigations. Cleveland is not the first city to tackle a rape kit backlog, but it is one of the only municipalities to investigate every case so doggedly. Since 2011, when the city began sending rape kits to the state’s crime lab, almost all of its 4,000 kits have been tested; of these, over 1,600 contained usable DNA. Three hundred and fifty cases have led to grand jury indictments, and as of this month, over 100 rapists have been convicted, some of multiple rapes.
Timothy McGinty, the Cuyahoga County prosecutor who created and oversees the rape kit task force, attributed its existence to Dissell and her former reporting partner, Leila Atassi. “Rachel and her partner started this,” McGinty told CJR. “They are really the reason we are where we are.”
It’s an exemplary instance of local reporting, responsive government officials, and public support coming together to make a community safer. Bruce Shapiro, executive director of the Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, calls Dissell’s work an “unusually positive use of investigative reporting.”

Oh good, now we know the breadth and width of their next failure.
The whole lot should be arrested as traitor!
In this photo, McConnell looks like he has been caught red handed telling foreign embassies stuff against Obama and climate change.
He’s an unmitigated ass!
gop fools never learn - their wound from attempting to block the #IranDeal is still bleeding and now they go back to PBO (the master counter-puncher) for more punishment;
I guess we can just tune in for this next self-inflicted wound
At least they’re consistent.
last read here that your health was bothering you; hope you are now improving and continuing to thrive
Thanks for asking. Had some gastro problems that had me praying for a swift end to my misery. ;-)
I hope your health is improving, too! I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. It’s good to see you here.
What a bloody asshole!
If I ever needed any motivation to vote for Hillary vs this dude, he has provided boats loads worth with his anti-PBO rhetoric.
Bernie and his followers = “Obama hasn’t done enough!”. His base are the disgruntled emo whiners who believe nothing about PBO except that they are convinced he ignores them / hates them / thinks they’re stupid.
Run, Joe. Hillary is my last resort.
Maybe you’ve already seen Nancy’s rant on Smartypants; This video made me cry. I’ve been in a crying mood.

Yummy …. and I agree with Koffmann re: food :)
Sen Sanders speaking about 2008 is truly odd. There was a presidential election in 2012. Mr. Sanders why didn’t you run in 2012? Hmm? Mr. Snaders what have you personally done to get Dems elected in 2010 and 2014? Yeah. NOTHING!
Note Nationally and other than in NH and IA, pray tell Sen Sanders how come your numbers aren’t getting Higher?
But PBO is taking the country in the wrong direction? These people are just flat out racist or brain dead.
