Please forgive me for my rant against the Democratic Presidential candidates: Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. With all the mountain of evidence that clearly reveal that the Republican party is dysfunctional; and that most of the Republican presidential candidates are all bat-shit crazy, why is Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders running against President Obama? How come Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are not out there vigorously exposing these crazy Republicans who seem intent on destroying our country simply because they hate the Black guy in the White House? I respect all the wise people at TOD who keep reminding us that we must support and show up for the Democrats. At the same time, I am utterly disgusted that our own Democratic presidential candidates are more eager to run against a sitting Democratic President, who by the way has an impressive record of achievements, than they are about vigorously exposing the insane people who are currently dominating the Republican party. The so called mainstream media revels in criticizing PBO for not being able to work with these crazy people in Congress. My question is: How does either Hillary Clinton, or Bernie Sanders, plan to work with these insane Republicans who seem to be incapable of working with each other?

I hope VP Biden decides to run. But as a father who lost a child to brain cancer twenty-three years ago, I perfectly understand what he is going through. On top of that, I am sure the loss of his son resurrected the memory of the loss of his first wife and his first daughter. If VP Biden doesn’t run, I don’t see how I can be enthused about Democratic candidates who are running against, and bad mouthing, one of the best Presidents in my life time. Yes, without fanfare I turned seventy yesterday (10/08). Although I barely remember IKE (Dwight Eisenhower), I’ve consciously known presidents from JFK to BO. And, as far as I am concerned, PBO is the best President in my lifetime. The fact that that we have two supposedly Democratic presidential candidates running against makes me very angry. While I will vote for a Democratic nominee in the general election, I will not donate money or work for a Democratic candidate who is out there disrespecting, attacking or running against President Obama. With all the craziness and dysfunction going on in the Republican party, I don’t get it why Democratic presidential candidates are not focused on exposing that to the American people, but are instead attacking President Obama’s policies that are postively helping millions of Americans.

There are no moderate rebels. There were all rebels, pure and simple. They were all obstructionists. That’s what they were. As for arming them, POTUS needs not to. Just left them apply Darwin’s theory. Then, maybe, the WH will be able to work with the survivors.

Former Chicago Public Schools chief to plead guilty to bribery
    scheme

Barbara Byrd-Bennett had been the chief executive of Chicago Public Schools less than two months when the man who helped persuade the Emanuel administration to give her the job sent an email allegedly laying out the heart of a multimillion-dollar bribery scheme.

In the December 2012 email, Gary Solomon, the owner of SUPES Academy and a consultant with long ties to the Emanuel administration, assured Byrd-Bennett that trust accounts had been set up in the names of two of her young relatives, each funded with tens of thousands of dollars, federal prosecutors alleged. The cash would be hers once she stepped down from her public post and rejoined his firm.

“It is our assumption that the distribution will serve as a signing bonus upon your return to SUPES,” Solomon wrote, according to prosecutors. “If you only join for the day, you will be the highest paid person on the planet for that day.”

The secret bonus was just one part of a massive scheme outlined in a criminal indictment Thursday charging Byrd-Bennett, 66, with steering no-bid contracts worth more than $23 million to SUPES in return for promises of up to $2.3 million in kickbacks, other perks and a job.

It’s my birthday today. Sixty seven years ago I was born. On this side of life I am very grateful for education I had, the upbringing I received from my mother and immigrant grandmother, filled with hope, dignity, and integrity. I am grateful for the wonderful spouse and life companion who has walked with me for 42 years, for my daughter who turns 40 next month who cares for the sick as an oncology nurse, and who is married to a wonderful man, mother of three children. I am grateful for the three wonderful grandchildren we have, with whom I spent this day providing day care. I am grateful and blessed by the spiritual path I have consciously journeyed on since the age of 21. And I am grateful for this diverse community drawn together by the powerful and inspiring leadership of a great man, President Barack Obama.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2015 is to be awarded to the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet for its decisive contribution to the building of a pluralistic democracy in Tunisia in the wake of the Jasmine Revolution of 2011. The Quartet was formed in the summer of 2013 when the democratization process was in danger of collapsing as a result of political assassinations and widespread social unrest. It established an alternative, peaceful political process at a time when the country was on the brink of civil war. It was thus instrumental in enabling Tunisia, in the space of a few years, to establish a constitutional system of government guaranteeing fundamental rights for the entire population, irrespective of gender, political conviction or religious belief.

The National Dialogue Quartet has comprised four key organizations in Tunisian civil society: the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT, Union Générale Tunisienne du Travail), the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA, Union Tunisienne de l’Industrie, du Commerce et de l’Artisanat), the Tunisian Human Rights League (LTDH, La Ligue Tunisienne pour la Défense des Droits de l’Homme), and the Tunisian Order of Lawyers (Ordre National des Avocats de Tunisie). These organizations represent different sectors and values in Tunisian society: working life and welfare, principles of the rule of law and human rights. On this basis, the Quartet exercised its role as a mediator and driving force to advance peaceful democratic development in Tunisia with great moral authority. The Nobel Peace Prize for 2015 is awarded to this Quartet, not to the four individual organizations as such.

The Arab Spring originated in Tunisia in 2010-2011, but quickly spread to a number of countries in North Africa and the Middle East. In many of these countries, the struggle for democracy and fundamental rights has come to a standstill or suffered setbacks. Tunisia, however, has seen a democratic transition based on a vibrant civil society with demands for respect for basic human rights.
