Thanks so much! (Truth be told, Rock tweeted a link and I followed it. I am technically, thus, co-sharing in the GOLD!)

    Hiya, Nerdy
I read through these tweets Before commenting—not always my MO—and I have to say that in addition to being the nourishing stew we have come to expect, this collection impresses me because First and Foremost you remind us of how Great a President we have.
The Universe POTUS is forced to exist in, sucks, but PBO and our economy is soaring nonetheless.
    A big thank you!!

Exactly. I was thinking, now for some real news. This is the world, and the work, that President Obama faces every minute of every day. The ridiculous bumbling House rethugs have done nothing but get in the way. Their antics are only funny for that instant when you first see them (wtf moment), but then the truth of how their idiocy impedes the president’s efforts hits and for me, the fury is right there waiting.

Vicki, you speak for me! May I join you in offering “A big thank you!” to our brilliant Nerdy Wonka. NW’s posts always help me to disregard all the madness going around so as to appreciate our, once in lifetime, incredible President. Great thanks also to the great Chipsticks for recognizing NW’s talents and making her a partner on TOD.

I like the news on cancer and elephants. Too bad the elephants might not transfer their secret on time for me. But good news for humanity.

So, here’s a theory as to Why DWS is very low key about Tuesdays’ debate.

On October 30, 2007, HRC was a clear favorite front runner with very high poll numbers. On October 31, 2007 her numbers began to plummet and never recovered.
What happened on October 30, 2007? During the (D) debate Sen. Chris Dodd called Sen. Clinton out for expressing both sides of one issue within 15 minutes.
The others piled on. The issue was whether NY Gov. Spitzer should issue Drivers Licenses to undocumented immigrants. First HRC was for it and under pressure she was against it. In the space of a few minutes.

Despite the DNC spin, Hillary did not “almost win.” Those famous cracks in some glass ceiling did not matter, nor did any of the elaborate, legal shenanigans have any effect. The Debate sunk her ship.

No wonder DWS is not so eager for viewers. Also,
No wonder HRC is covering every possible side of current issues. For it? Sure.
    Against it? Sure.

How does this end well? I surely don’t know. Tune in on Tuesday.

    • October 8, 2015 at 7:18 pm

      Good catch. I remember this.

I hope this debate doesn’t turn into a bash TPP session because that’s not going to sit well with me. But she will get nailed about her flip flop. I think MO’M and Sanders will see to that. Let me know how she weasels out of that charge without sliming PBO.

The “Forums” are safe venues for HRC. If I understand correctly, the candidates don’t have to face each other.

Here’s my take: This is the screening & interview process for the hardest, most consequential job on the planet. If she can’t handle the process, she can’t handle the job. That goes for any candidate.

    • October 9, 2015 at 2:27 am

      Question, Vick?
How is Hillary going to finesse her previous support for TPP with her current opposition to it? Surely, the media people who will be questioning her during the debates, as well as her rivals, must have read her memoir, “Hard Choices.”

    • October 9, 2015 at 2:49 am

You know what JO’B, just because Ben Carson was a good brain surgeon in the past does not necessarily mean that his brain is functioning properly now. Personally, I think the doctor is suffering from some mental defects. Everything that comes out of his mouth clearly shows that Ben Carson is mentally not well. Even if we have to grant the possibility that Ben Carson was, at one time, a smart surgeon, we also have to recognize that smart people are not immune from developmental mental defects.

        October 9, 2015 at 12:47 pm

I think you’ve called it, nath. I expect Carson next to say “If the doorkeepers hadn’t let Hitler into that Popeye’s ‘organization,’ there would have been no Holocaust and we wouldn’t need a wall between us and Mexico.” That sounded like a joke, but it isn’t far from the truth! His truth.

ok, murkans, clear something for me.

some tell me 218 is the number.

some tell me, no, it’s only the majority of those present on the floor.

    which is correct?

    • 61 Vicki
      October 8, 2015 at 7:37 pm

It is 218 if all the Congressional seats have office holders in office. Therefore, if there are fewer than the 435 House Members currently in office, sometimes the magic number can be 217. Or not.. i am confused also.

      • October 9, 2015 at 2:55 am

Very simple, Vicki: If all the currently 435 seats are occupied, then it requires 218 votes to be elected SPEAKER of the House. Obviously, if there are vacant seats that are not now occupied, then it takes the majority of only those Congressional seats that are occupied to be elected SPEAKER.

    • October 9, 2015 at 3:17 am

AMK, both scenarios are correct! 218 votes are required if all the 435 members of the House of Representatives show up to vote, Yea or Nay, for the SPEAKER. However, if some slackers choose not to show up to vote, or if some Representatives vote to abstain, then it is the majority of those voting YEA who get to determine who is the SPEAKER of the House of Representatives. It’s absolutely rare that members of Congress would chose to be absent during the election of the SPEAKER. I’ve not looked at the historic records, but it is possible that a speaker may have been elected by “the majority of those present on the floor,” rather than the 218 (out of the 435) majority members of the House of Representatives.

Remember the gop’s “jobs, jobs, jobs” lie in 2010? It turns out that it was not a lie after all. It’s just that it’s job, job, job and none to take it.

    UGH!

  29. October 8, 2015 at 8:16 pm

In his podcast with Marc Maron, President Obama described how he sees it differently (this is my summary, not a transcript):
The emphasis on “hope and change” during the 2008 election captured our aspirations about where we should be going. But the question becomes, “how do we operationalize these concepts into concrete actions?” When it comes to specifics, the world is complicated and there are choices you have to make. The trajectory of progress comes in fits and starts and where you’re going is balanced by what is and where you’ve been. Progress in a democracy is never instantaneous and it’s always partial.

You know I have mention this several times before, Grandma used to always say be careful when you lie down with snakes, because sooner or later they will bite you. Well Republican Party you got into bed with those snakes know as those radical racists tea party, because all you wanted to do was win. Well those tea party snakes are biting your sorry asses.
