That’s an outrageous accusation. Of course, I remember…. only not in time.
Unfortunately, the last line of this statement is the truth. Right wingers would be merciless, not only in rounding up people they don’t like, but in annihilating them in every possible way to achieve the ‘purity’ and privilege they crave. Every single one of the Republican candidates for president have this fascist tendency, although Trump is the most open about it. My fear is not that they would win an election, but that they will do everything possible to steal it.

Two things have come to mind reading this. One is that libertarians and Tea Party patriots are the same thing and that is the John Birch Society. Its just a way to clean up the image. To my mind when I look at the positions of the Birchers, then as now, they are aligned closely with the 14 common elements of fascism. It does not mean that libertarians aren’t fascists just because Trump has been putting forth their ideas so blantantly. Ron Paul is just more sneeky and his followers seem to like to take you unaware. There is an element of facade building that tracks with the Paul supporters. Trump just doesn’t bother with all that dissembling.
The second insight I feel I’ve had is that resentment politics (think Rush) is really just garden variety mental and emotional abuse in a larger platform. I am a surrmounter of this kind of long term abuse and the bait and switch element is there, the retaliation escalation is there, the target blaming is there, the deliberate trolling is there, the cruelty is there. Once I put that frame around the GOP this week I have a new sense of what needs to be done. One thing that is not constructive is to act like these people misunderstand what they are doing. They know exactly what they are doing and to get a handle on this one has to realize this is about power. Nothing else, Power meaning removing other people’s personal and collective power, Its insideous and awful to deal with . One response I learned that is amazingly effective is to answer with this statement, “that’s what you say”. If we could learn ways to do this as a public we could nip some of their ammuition in the bud. Also naming what they are doing versus any other kind of response. They are excellent at turning the tables on any outrage and in fact hope for that reaction to do their worst.

Good morning all of TOD family. I hope everyone had a great day yesterday and a lovely day off the streets today. I have no desire to fight the traffic or the masses at the stores. I can’t wait to watch FLOTUS and the girls see the tree arrive. Always interesting to see what they are wearing.
