“Historic Paris Agreement to Combat Climate Change
Secretary Kerry (Dec. 12): “The world has come together around an agreement that will empower us to chart a new path for our planet – a smart and responsible path, a sustainable path.””
Video currently accessible on the front page at http://www.state.gov
Every day that passes the world witnesses what a commitment to CHANGE - no matter how slow, how difficult, how many try to obstruct or obliterate - can and does prevail.
The powerful lesson and legacy of President Obama is just how potent the combination of persistence and empathy (for all) can be.
Step 0 (baseline): nation or world admits there is a very complex challenge that needs an urgent solution and everyone admits that no one has been able to find a cost-effective solution;
Step 1 : PBO voices his support for finding a cost-effective solution, identifies the person(or people) to lead the search for the solution who in turn selects a very competent and dedicated team of public servants to work diligently on the problem. on the other hand gop voices they vocal opposition;
Step 2 (results) : the dedicated team finds a cost-effective solution to the formerly intractable problem;
Step 3 (credit) : gop say its wrong, won’t work or weak but offer no solution; the usual Dem suspects say that the solution is not good enough and others work very hard to give credit to other people;
step 4 : PBO just goes on and works on the other previously intractable domestic or international problem
There must be a word that describes a person for whom nothing is ever good enough. Ingrate? Not quite right.
Ungracious, as the tweet above says. But it is more than that.
Unimaginable that such a congenitally dissatisfied person could ever be president.
In a Democracy, of course, agitators of all stripes are welcomed, encouraged and feared. However, people like Sanders, Kucinich, etc on the left side of the debate make a mockery of what is plausible, possible and real. Their Utopian Ideology is detrimental to any incremental achievement. They see the glass half empty. Half a loaf of bread is never enough for them. This type of Puritanical world view makes Politics a Toxic brew.
It was a great privilege to watch it as it happened. This day will be remembered for a long time if all parties act as committed today. IOW, we then might still have a habitable planet in 20-50 years and beyond …. no joke, no hyperbole.
Right because Anon is going to start with the salacious, move to the criminal and finally the unethical. They have to start with the salacious otherwise America will not pay attention. Since markets are global, the billionaire club will probably help with this. Hell they may even be behind it.
Yesterday, Peanut and her Grandmother came downtown to Macy’s. I met them after work.
We took in the windows, then Peanut went to see Santa, and we had dinner at The Walnut Room.
Times have changed. When I was growing up, you went to see Santa, you stood in line and waited until you saw Santa.
Now?
We got a pager.
A pager to see Santa.
Well, we looked around; got the buzz, had to stand in line about 15 minutes, got in to see Santa and then had dinner.
I remember so many years, growing up, even after I stopped going to see Santa, we’d always go downtown and visit the windows at Marshall Field’s, and go to the Walnut Room. I love sharing those traditions with Peanut.
Oh, those are my memories too. I was convinced that the REAL Santa was at Marshall Field’s! Yes, lunch in the Walnut Room with the gimormous tree in the middle, then waiting to see Santa, and Mrs. Santa, and Happy Holly and the deer, it was magical. Also, to further the magic, we got to ride the El from Oak Park in to Field’s. A magical, wonderful day. Thank you for the memory.
Sadly, I missed 2 questions..the one about the pizza and the one about the Time cover…I changed my mind on that one and would have gotten it right had i not changed my mind. Should have known better:) Had a score of 416
President Obama looked elated and celebrated the importance of todays’ agreement.
The media will devote all of their energy to documenting GOP “concerns” and as little energy as possible to the real diplomatic and planetary victory.
Good thing Congress does not get to vote on this.
President Obama is very pleased, very happy. He thanked all those who made it happen and noted that it’s a start but we have more work to do as a nation. And then he talks about his future grandchildren and I get a bit choked up…….
@POTUS Thank you for your visionary leadership and your determination to see progress in our lifetime. #COP21 pic.twitter.com/jC14Mr9yXH
You could see in every photo and hear in every statement that he was very moved by the time he spent in Alaska. I’m sure he’ll return with FLOTUS someday.
Agree with you, meta. He has the intellectual capacity to envision the chaos and unparalleled human suffering if robust, sustainable action on climate change is not the # 1 priority for every Nation & every individual.
reviewing the video of the final announcement of the Paris Agreement, I can’t help smiling about the way full hugs were being freely given;
of course I course be wrong and I am definitely biased but it seems to me that PBO and FLOTUS have done something else for public figures and that is make it very easy and natural to give and receive a hug in front of the international cameras and in on the official stage;
remembering how much the media tried to make of the friendly shoulder pat FLOTUS gave to and was returned by the Queen of England during the First Couple’s first official visit ….. how far we have come
PF, it’s not you who is petty! It’s the Congressman who unlike Sen. Reid and Leader Pelosi, is being petty by failing to give credit to President Obama. I am sure he didn’t want to piss-off his emoprog supporters.
Yes! And, as you know, a year later she truly reached the pinnacle at ABT for any dancer, as well as for the first African American dancer, by being appointed Principal at ABT. One of the great achievements, ever, in the world of classical ballet.
Nerdy Wonka, I am with you all the way! I am also very proud to have voted twice for President Obama! As far as I am concerned, he is the greatest U.S. President in my lifetime!
What a Secretary of State, and as Don said earlier today, what vision by PBO!
President Obama’s announcement today was a belated birthday present for John Kerry — heartfelt wishes to a warm, relaxing and restorative Christmas season to him, his family, the First Family, and especially to @VP and family (first Christmas without Beau :( ):

A House Divided
How a radical group of Republicans pushed Congress to the right.
BY RYAN LIZZA
………………………
Meadows is one of the more active members of the House Freedom Caucus, an invitation-only group of about forty right-wing conservatives that formed at the beginning of this year. Since 2010, when the Party won back the chamber, the House has been engaged in a series of clashes over taxes and spending. Two years ago, House Republicans brought about a government shutdown over the Affordable Care Act and nearly caused the United States to default on its debt. This week, as Congress raced to meet a December 11th deadline to pass the annual legislation that funds the government, the members of the Freedom Caucus had new demands: they wanted to cut funding for Planned Parenthood and restrict Syrian refugees from entering the United States, policies that, if attached to the spending bills, could face a veto from Obama and, potentially, lead to another government shutdown.
The song SHAFT and when Isaac Hayes sings: Shut your mouth.
That is what is running in my Brain every time I see the Tweet from Bernie Sanders.
Thank goodness that I will not be running in to Sanders anytime soon. I will not be able to control myself. I will either slap him or spit on him.
The hacktivist group reportedly shut down the Trump Tower website, TrumpTowerNY.com, through limiting access through a distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack that temporarily paralyzed it. The site is frequently used as a command center for Trump’s presidential campaign.
Anonymous launched the attack to condemn “racism and hatred.” The group also released a YouTube video explaining its reasoning behind the #OpTrump campaign.
“This policy is going to have a huge impact,” a masked Anonymous member said in reference to Trump’s earlier comments. “This is what ISIS wants: the more Muslims feel sad, the more ISIS feels that they can recruit them.”
The attack on Trump Towers’ site appeared to be a precursor to Friday’s “Trolling Day,” a day Anonymous dedicated for its international members and the public at large to mock ISIS online. People were encouraged to post mocking videos, memes, and messages on social media.
says the eddie snowjob fanboi. please. this super “smart” guy calls snowjob a “patriot” for running off to putin and russia with classified american information?!? neil, that by definition is the opposite of a patriot. we have a name for that already, neil. he’s a traitor. try saying the truth now, neil.
Thank you Chips!!! Another AMAZING day of the Obama Doctrine at work!!!

And, I’m quite impressed with Sec Clinton’s statement …
#Hope4ALL
Agree with you, Bobfr…Hill and M’OM had appropriate remarks. The other one can bite me.
Have you had a rabies vaccination ;)
actually? No. :)
HRC’s statement and O’Malley’s tweet were on point. Excellent.
you said it….tired of the JIVE
This!!
by now, here on TOD, we know the routine:
Step 0 (baseline): nation or world admits there is a very complex challenge that needs an urgent solution and everyone admits that no one has been able to find a cost-effective solution;
Step 1 : PBO voices his support for finding a cost-effective solution, identifies the person(or people) to lead the search for the solution who in turn selects a very competent and dedicated team of public servants to work diligently on the problem. on the other hand gop voices they vocal opposition;

So true, gcLinda!!!
There must be a word that describes a person for whom nothing is ever good enough. Ingrate? Not quite right.

this is in response to prettyfoot above.

Ho ho ho! Is this an early xmas present from pbo and sos kerry or what? Cant wait to get into the details.
Real leadership indeed. We might just save this planet after all.
Hi kanga kid … here’s the link to the Paris Agreement:

Note that a few errors and text adjustments are soon to be released in an edited version.
That will not go well for Trump, his various businesses, and his family ….
I agree, I’ve seen stories already about cancelled business arrangements in Dubai and Florida.
Right because Anon is going to start with the salacious, move to the criminal and finally the unethical. They have to start with the salacious otherwise America will not pay attention. Since markets are global, the billionaire club will probably help with this. Hell they may even be behind it.
Does anyone know when the Obamas will host the annual Christmas party for military families. We always get pictures from that event.
Afternoon, Everyone.
For my Chicago folks…
Yesterday, Peanut and her Grandmother came downtown to Macy’s. I met them after work.
We took in the windows, then Peanut went to see Santa, and we had dinner at The Walnut Room.

Someone should have asked the teacher if they had a brain. So disappointing.
Thank you, Mr. President, for your faithful and courageous leadership.
President Obama looked elated and celebrated the importance of todays’ agreement.

Excellent statement from POTUS. He put it right out there.
President Obama is very pleased, very happy. He thanked all those who made it happen and noted that it’s a start but we have more work to do as a nation. And then he talks about his future grandchildren and I get a bit choked up…….
i so loveeeeee this pic…his time in Alaska was so visionary…so historic…and revealing..
You could see in every photo and hear in every statement that he was very moved by the time he spent in Alaska. I’m sure he’ll return with FLOTUS someday.
he said that he had planned to…the other place that i felt that he was moved was when he went to stonehenge
Same connection to the natural world!
Agree with you, meta. He has the intellectual capacity to envision the chaos and unparalleled human suffering if robust, sustainable action on climate change is not the # 1 priority for every Nation & every individual.
yes, he kind of choked up
Ok, Al, sure. Victory has a thousand fathers, but defeat is an orphan.

This!!!
Perhaps i am being petty…but to not name the President in his congrats…irritated me…i am not in the mood for it…
his statement
Hell no you aren’t being petty, prettyfoot58, these people are working my last nerve.
PF, it’s not you who is petty! It’s the Congressman who unlike Sen. Reid and Leader Pelosi, is being petty by failing to give credit to President Obama. I am sure he didn’t want to piss-off his emoprog supporters.
sometimes i react to the irritation
I’m kind of feeling this today:)
And this beautiful piece :)
Thank you, df! She is such an exquisite dancer and fine person!!!
Oh my goodness, YES! :) I adore her and I’m so proud of her accomplishments…against all odds. She is a role model and example for many.
