TODobots, you have to hear this - I have had the absolutely best-EST Christmas, and New Year’s *present* today, and from a totally unexpected source!! You can have no idea how wonderfully great I’m feeling!

Hours ago I was sitting at my laptop and running around the internet….

… when out at my door there arose such a clatter (translation = the doorbell rang).
So, I crawled down the stairs to see what was the matter.
I opened the latch and pulled open the door,
When, what to my wondering eyes did appear
    But …..
….one of my former teenage guests whom I hadn’t seen or spoken to in exactly a year! She is doing exceptionally well in school and life is looking up, and she wanted me to know that the (almost) year she spent with me had made a difference for her. She is currently carrying a 94% GPA and after Christmas she’ll be focused on putting together her application for college. You have to know the back story to know how terrific this visit was, but you can accept my word that seeing her again and hearing that she is doing so well has taken a load off my mind - and has been a monumental gift! ‘Life is good’, and you know what? I am blessed.

ps: She brought me a personalized Christmas card on which she had inserted three (3) pics of Pres O! Did she get to know me or what? :) :) :) This is the kind of thing that gives *me* a *high*!

{{{VC}}} that *is* a great gift! Thanks for sharing it with us. It just shows that we never know when what we do and say will influence someone’s life for the better. <3

VC, what a fabulous gift and how wonderful that your former guest recognized how much her visit would mean to you! Every time we bless someone’s life, it comes back to us, doesn’t it?

        December 23, 2025 at 10:43 pm

JackieG, you cannot imagine how much this means! The truth is she left me unexpectedly and in such a way that *she* wasn’t sure what her welcome would be, so to me it’s a measure of her growth that she came anyway. It’s one reason I feel so good, because now I know she is maturing and has started to blossom as I dreamed she would. :D :D :D I can only keep muttering, ‘Life’s good!’

/smh/ Don’t know why my space bar has started to stick so it’s taken me forever to respond coherently.

Thank you, Nerdy for this timely compilation.
I especially enjoyed The President’s tweet praising the NBA.

I have been saying on TOD for some time that I thought an effort against the scourge of gun violence would be well served by a public campaign promoting gun safety and sanity.
Sports heroes, comedians, actors, singers and celebrities leading the way.

Does anybody at TOD remember when we saw celebrities telling us to buckle up? That public campaign worked really well. In every TV show or movie we saw people fastening their seatbelts and now it is second nature for all of us.

Michael Bloomberg was at the WH recently and I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the topic he discussed with President Obama. It may be Mr. Bloomberg’s money we see on the screen.

Nerdy, love all of your tweets. Noticed that the Senate staffers pictured are primarily male as well as white-says a lot about the way this body is divorced from the world the rest of us live in. Hope you and your family have a truly happy and blessed Christmas. You give so much to this site and every one here is grateful for your insight, passion, and determination. You are much loved.

VC - May I share a little Christmas story, about my almost-five-year-old great grandson in Florida? He had an “old” girlfriend here, before they moved back to the Sunshine State. She’s a few months younger. They had a big “goodbye scene” before he left, with his taking her over to a bench, sitting her down and saying he’d be back to visit, when she cried a little and told him how much she’d miss him. She was at two of his birthday parties, he saw her maybe once or twice a month throughout the year, and I’m tellin’ ya, it was cute as a button watching them. They’ve both “moved on,” shall we say (Ha!), but for Christmas this year, unbeknownst to him, I got her a big chunky soft stuffed animal and said it was from the two of us. I have a video of her thanking me, and then my son reminded her to thank my great grandson, too, which she did in the cutest way, huge smile on her face, gleam in her eye.

I sent the video to his Mommy in Florida, asking her to show him. He looked at it and said, “Tell her I miss her and you’re welcome.” And then he confidentially asked his Mommy, “When did I get her THAT?”

You can’t fool ’em, much as we try. Well, apparently she was fooled, but not he.

        The end. <3

          <3 <3 :D :D :D
This reminds me of something I said to TS earlier - I love the truthfulness and naturalness of the little ones (before they get tainted by some of those around them).

BTW, what do you mean, 'May I share…'? I sure hope you haven't been cheating on me re 'my little pistol's stories!

            December 24, 2025 at 12:14 am

Ha! No cheating. He’s just so busy now playing with a new crop of friends that our phone chats go something like, “Hi, how are you? What are you doing? Do you want to talk to Mommy, now? Bye! Love ya!”

              December 24, 2025 at 12:24 am

Oh dear, you’ve truly *lost* your best daytime nap partner! :D :D Cheer up, at least the love is still being verbalized.

                December 24, 2025 at 12:56 am

He was never my nap partner! The kid was too busy to nap. He’d be the one waiting for me to wake up and play his game with him! I’m okay about all the changes, but I sure would like to be able to say on Christmas to him when he smiled at me, “Get that dimple back in that cheek, boy!” He’d laugh and laugh.

I’m just so lucky to have all of them in my life. Big time lucky.

Isn’t it great how it’s mostly the small things/moments in life that bring us the greatest joy! On occasion while I’m waiting for my billionaire uncle/aunt to surface, *and* remember mine and their connection ;) ;) I forget to savour the beauty that *is* my life.

                  Happy December 24th, JO’B!

      You go, PBO!

      //……………………….

The federal government (and the President) are somewhat limited in what they can do to address the problem of mass incarceration.
That is because only 13% of those incarcerated are in federal prisons - 48% of those are drug offenders. Between the President’s Clemency Initiative and the retroactive application of the Fair Sentencing Act, that number will be dramatically reduced in the coming year. But as the numbers above demonstrate, non-violent drug offenders are a small part of the enormous state prison population.

John Pfaff, professor of law at Fordham University School of Law, described President Obama’s commutations of the sentences of Butler and Axam this way:

“The most powerful thing Obama can do is shape the national conversation,” he said. “There’s certainly no downside to Obama having done this, but more governors have to have the courage to come out and actually start commuting violent offenders’ sentences.”

In other words, President Obama has opened the door for a conversation about the much tougher issues involved in ending mass incarceration. Time for governors to step up.

In memory of my mother, Renata, and my grandparents, Attilio and Matilda Sari, who made the difficult passage from Tuscany in Italy and endured much like the immigrant families of today so that their children and grandchildren might have a better life. The last words from my mouth to my mother at Christmas before her death three years ago were my singing Silent Night, my favorite Christmas hymn. She woke from the sleep of Alzheimer’s with tears and a smile in recognition as I kissed her goodbye and whispered, “Io ti amo.” This from a favorite Italian male vocalist, Andrea Bocelli, also from Tuscany, who sings Silent Night with the children.

Well, TODobots, ‘Good Morning and Happy December 24th’ to you all! Since I’ve shirked my duties all week I will naturally have to finish my preparations today, which means I’m only looking in for now. My theory is that I’m not awake yet so I can squeeze out a couple of hours more online before legitimately waking up :D and starting my mad rush. Also too, I’m heading to my cousin’s place later this evening so we can have Christmas breakfast tomorrow - a tradition she started last year. IOW, I may not be online tonight. Oh, and yea, I won’t be driving there in heavy snowfall as happened last year - the weather currently looks great outside the window! Life’s good!
