      WHAT????? Is Bernie losing it?

    • January 28, 2016 at 4:30 pm

Maybe “argue” is not the best word – maybe that is how he grew up thinking about it.
Don’t you think Bernie means for teens to debate things with teachers and family (if possible).
Hillz would probably say the same. Nuttin’ wrong with that!
      Want to argee or feesh?

      • January 28, 2016 at 6:21 pm

He may not have, bridgeriverpass, but it is surprising how literal young people choose to be when it suits them. He may have meant to be curious; ask questions; don’t necessarily accept things just because. But, “Argue with your parents. Argue with your teachers,” generates an unacceptable picture for me…maybe the word “respectfully” should be included in there.

Say Bernie would win the Democratic Candicy and his words of argue with your parents were used in a GOP ad against him. Many potentially influential voters would be turned off to having him the leader of our country. It is like encouraging teens to be disrespectful to their elders.

I think he means debate or push the status quo and ask questions.

I tell my kids that all the time but advise they do it respectfully with the intent to be open to the debate to gain and share knowledge.

In LA last year, 2 AA cops were jailed, charged and indicted for killing a 6yrs old Autistic boy.
It’s always a different application of the laws, right?
I didn’t read this article. I just hope that it’s not another Racially based application of laws.

    • January 28, 2016 at 3:27 pm

A Pennsylvania constable who prosecutors say accidentally killed a 12-year-old girl during an eviction while firing in self-defense has been cleared of criminal wrongdoing, but the girl’s father has been charged with murder

…Constable Clarke Steele was in imminent fear for his life and lawfully fired at Donald Meyer, 57, on Jan. 11 after Steele pointed a loaded, semi-automatic rifle at him from a few feet away…The .40 caliber bullet tore through Meyer’s arm and struck Ciara Meyer, 12, in the chest as she stood behind her father, killing her almost instantly. She was home sick from middle school that day, police said.

“Mr. Meyer’s reckless conduct, knowing that his daughter was standing behind him, triggered a chain of events that tragically led to the death of Ciara Meyer…”

      =====

This is a tragedy, but IMO constable was justified in defending himself. But have to wonder if either of the adults were paying attention to the fact that the child was standing nearby.

      • January 28, 2016 at 3:50 pm

NEVER NEVER are the police held accountable…unless they are blk police officers

        • January 28, 2016 at 3:57 pm

Maybe the tide is slowly starting to turn. White officer in metro Atlanta was recently indicted for killing an unarmed man suffering from PTSD. Could have used taser, but instead used deadly force.

Just one instance, but that’s one that [at least so far…still have to go to trial] has been held accountable.

      • 26 nospin
        January 29, 2016 at 1:31 pm

it was justified and swbluega, I read that the girl was behind her dad. The constable didn’t see her…just the gun pointed at him. It is very unfortunate.

        • January 29, 2016 at 6:49 pm

I agree, nospin, that the constable was justified in shooting…self-defense… a loaded rifle was pointed at him. The father was responsible for this tragedy. The lesson he was teaching and example he was setting for his child was wrong on so many counts. That his daughter’s life was taken because of his bad choices is just sad.

      January 29, 2016 at 1:29 pm

in this case, I believe the outcome is the right one. My condolences for the daughter as she had nothing to do with it but her father created the problem.

Bush may/may not have exploited Mrs. Schiavo then (that may be debatable to some), but his SuperPAC using her in an ad now is certainly political exploitation IMO. These conservatives are so very, very insensitive!

        • 32 99ts
          January 28, 2016 at 5:56 pm

Bush DEFINITELY exploited Terry Schiavo – he husband and doctors were the one’s to make life/death decisions – NOT the government. Talk about big government interfering in people’s lives. For this reason alone Jeb Bush should be no-where near the Presidency.

TS, I think he did too, but unlike Sue I never followed the case – only read bits and pieces here and there – so chose not to go down that road. However, IMO, there’s no question the use of her pic now is an insensitive exploitation.

The number of young people who have drivers licenses has dropped from 80% to 60%. I don’t know one single teen or early teens kid who has an interest in driving. No ID, no vote.

It is absolutely shocking to me, donna. Of course, the problem is most of the parents are willing to chauffeur them. One of my friends is now forcing her kid to take driver’s ed and get herself a damn driver’s license. At least this kid gets around on buses on her own. No interest in driving. Shocking.

Maybe it’s a *newer* trend, because my young adult offspring has had no interest in learning to drive and doesn’t mind taking the bus to go where he wants to. I was pleasantly surprised about 2 years ago when he finally took, and passed, the first test (written) for the license, but it turned out he was only interested in the ID portion. He has done nothing else since receiving the ID! 😦

        You’re absolutely right.

When boomers were growing up (at least the ones I knew), we couldn’t wait to turn 16 and get our licenses.

Now my friends childrens are perfectly happy being chauffeured (even in ex-urban California) and have little interest in getting CDLs.

The Snyder administration quietly trucked in water to state buildings in January of 2015 – ten months prior to Governor Snyder publicly admitting there was reason for concern in Flint, according to a document obtained by Progress Michigan.

“It appears the state wasn’t as slow as we first thought in responding the Flint Water Crisis. Sadly, the only response was to protect the Snyder administration from future liability and not to protect the children of Flint from lead poisoning,” said Lonnie Scott, executive director of Progress Michigan. “While residents were being told to relax and not worry about the water, the Snyder administration was taking steps to limit exposure in its own building.”

“Another day and another example of the Snyder administration’s lackluster response to this crisis. Worse yet, this shows that the response was not only late and so far ineffective, but it was also unequal,” Scott continued. “Governor Snyder needs to explain to the people of Flint why his administration trucked water into a state building while allowing residents to drink unsafe water.”

99ts, I know the Republicans will not be calling for any hearings. Where are their concern for the children? You know the children they claim to care so much about when they are in the mother’s womb. As I have said before once the children are out of the womb these Republicans don’t give a dam about them.
