Roberta, you are so sweet to ask. On many, many levels, I’m getting better, but still have more “more tests” scheduled. I do think the warmer weather and the sight of early daffodils and crocuses helps. Can’t get too caught up in the news though because it makes me sick with rage. I hope there is going to be a powerful reckoning this fall, assisted and enabled by PBO.

Have to agree Jackie. Hope the spring weather helps you heal. We are starting to get some here in MN. Supposed to get to 64 today. Heat wave for us. Most of the snow is gone, next week before Easter we may get some more but it won’t stay. Have a great day today.

Good morning everyone. Busy day ahead, but before I ‘go’, wanted to share this…….and there will be no surprise, I’m sure. I didn’t sleep much last night so was on FB and reading some comments on some posts regarding the Chicago incident. Common theme is George Soros paid for the protestors or someone else paid for them, lots of comments about it being in “Obama’s Chicago”…..and Valerie Jarrett’s and Bill Ayers and………blah, blah, other reasons it is “Obama’s fault.” These people are so filled with hate. This is beyond scary to me.

bbl…….lurking. :) Good day to all.

TN, this stuff will continue since a lot of it is instigated and orchestrated by the right wing media and the imploding Republican Party. For sanity’s sake, we have to step back from it, keep our heads down and work for our candidates. There’s also a lot of over the top, outrageous language from Bernie supporters. An epidemic of insanity is loose on the land this year.

      GM TNmtnGirl.

As usual, it’s the MSM amplifying GOP pat response, dutifully acting as GOP cheerleaders as the GOP shames Americans around the world by broadcasting GOP talking points.

      • March 12, 2025 at 9:05 am

Why would anyone listen to anything this sorry Senator, this sorry presidential candidate has to say? Tell us who is paying are paying the protesters? Donald J. Trump. Who. Oh and that wise oh Ben Carson said that their are two Trump, isn’t that nice to know. Which one would send our sons and daughters to war? Which Trump would make the major decisions this country face.? Which of the two. People want a President with a split personality.

          March 12, 2025 at 9:28 am

Bella, I’ve no doubt Carson was duped. Trump is a tv personality and a con artist. I’m sure he has a lot of faces that he shows different people to get what he wants. Sadly, Carson doesn’t realize that he was Trump’s latest “mark.”

Morning Chips. Trump must be a LOT older than we think if he remembers “good old days” when dissenters were taken out on stretchers. I don’t remember that in my lifetime and I’m older than he says he is. Maybe he’s recalling previous existences in tzarist Russia, or was it Germany in the ’30’s? I am so ashamed of Americans who think this racist, disgusting, deeply unAmerican tyrant is presidential material.

It’s embarrassing, AMK, and it’s also frightening. This bigot’s supporters know no limits, respect no laws and are armed. I dread the day when his hatred gets focus on the state of PA.

      • March 12, 2025 at 8:37 am

Beyond frightening, JackieG. Even with evidence presented to him of his rhetoric at previous rallies, Trump refuses to acknowledge the role he has played in the violence at his rallies. My husband reminded me that Trump is someone who will never say he is sorry. Why would we expect him to take responsibility for the violence and hatred reaped from the seeds of racism and bigotry that he has sown.

The media did not seem to care until one of their own was abused. Now the incidents of him inciting and encouraging attacks are on constant loop.

The Media And Trump’s Rally Thugs

    http://mediamatters.org/blog/2016/01/11/the-media-and-trumps-rally-thugs/207885

So no, the press has clearly not given the Trump thugs and mobs the proper amount of attention or raised adequate concerns and objections. The press hasn’t demanded that the Republican frontrunner fix the problem of hovering political violence that permeates his campaign.

The press seems too nervous to call out the dangerous and disgusting behavior. People who cover politics know that what’s unfolding at the Trump rallies is unheard of. They know it’s extraordinary. They know it’s potentially very dangerous.

Yes, we keep getting updates about who was assaulted at which Trump rally. But there’s little connectivity and not enough outrage. Instead, we’re told Trump rallies where Democrats get physically assaulted are “fun.” (They’re not boring like “stodgy” Clinton events, am I right?)

This is bonkers. And it might be the best, most depressing, example yet that too many in the campaign press have walked away from wanting to hold Trump accountable.

      GM Ladyhawke.

      Article is spot on.

MSM only concerned about violence/arrests if it happens to one of their own (though avoiding most MSM tweets now, still felt inundated about some Breitbart/Trump campaign manager fracas, which I really don’t care about).

Instead, MSM bash audience over the head about how “energized” and “fun” Trump rallies are — which can only be true if you’re a white person. Otherwise, you’ll be verbally assaulted by “go back to where you came from,” or worse.

Why did he cancel? Are the demographics such that he would not be allowed to conduct his Klan rally the way he would like? Did he expect there would be protests such that *more* attention would be focused on the racist environment for which it seems he is no longer being given a pass?

GM TODville, congrats on #1, JackieG.

‘Tis time to Beware the Ides of March (i.e., FL, IL, MO, NC, OH primaries this Tuesday).

Posted this in response to JO’B on the overnight thread — Donald Trump has coached his aides and asked them to cull the archives for George Wallace campaign strategy.

Agree with JackieG that GOP are gleeful promoters of Trump’s shameless and abhorrent campaign (see Marco Rubio comment upthread).

Yesterday’s events were no accident, but part of Trump’s scheme to elevate himself as a White martyr to encourage those people who see themselves in Trump to vote for him on Tuesday (Trump being the pastiest and paunchiess candidate on the campaign trail):

Before Chicago, Trump was in St. Louis:

She really does need to learn how to just stop trying to insert herself into every single thing. Whether she’s trying to burnish her First Lady cred or acting like she can fix racism with kumbaya riffs, I’m not feeling it. Sometimes it’s best to be quiet. PBO KNOWS THIS LIKE THE BACK OF HIS HAND.

      • 90 Nerdy Wonka
        March 12, 2025 at 9:20 am

        Exactly.

It’s infuriating when people demand that those who are being victimized show restraint or hold hands and kumbaya. When Trump said vile things about Latinos and they said enough is enough, you had people telling them to calm down or speak softly, or ignore it, etc.

It is never on the bully and abuser to tone down his rhetoric or be called out for his nasty thoughts and comments. Nooooo…..he gets to play victim.

I thought HRC was trying to give a positive example of how a peaceful, loving response wins hearts. I think it was perceived as let them walk all over you then give them your love. I think the later was not her intent. MLK used peaceful demonstrations without violence and Trump is the opposite encouraging violence. Dangerous!

Maddow demolishes Donald Trump with horrifying side-by-side comparison to segregationist George Wallace (1/6/16)

    http://www.salon.com/2016/01/06/maddow_demolishes_donald_trump_with_horrifying_side_by_side_comparison_to_segregationist_george_wallace/

On “The Rachel Maddow Show” Tuesday evening, host Rachel Maddow played clips from the 1968 presidential campaign of George Wallace, the pro-segregation Alabama populist, and asked her viewers to “close [their] eyes and just listen to the news reports from that election — it’s almost like they’re talking about Donald Trump.”

She played coverage of Wallace’s failed run, all of which could be seamlessly edited into stories about Trump’s campaign stops — the anger of his supporters, their distaste for the political climate, and their attraction to the blunt, confrontational style of their candidate.

Good morning my dear Ms Chips & Danny & all of you wonderful folks on TOD!! Congrats on first to Jackie. I still lurk often, though don’t comment much. Just wanted to say that here in Germany everyone is just shaking their heads in disbelief over the Drumpf phenomenon. They ask me what is happening, and why don’t Americans know anything about history? I simply have nothing to say, and just shake my head as well. It is a terrifying time. Love to all of you. ❤️❤️❤️

    • 105 jackiegrumbacher
      March 12, 2025 at 9:24 am

Yes, it is terrifying, Andogriff. There are huge demographic changes that are inexorably altering the US. The white majority power is deeply threatened as it comes closer to the day when white equals ‘minority.’ Meantime rights are being granted to those the white patriarchal majority has always chosen to marginalize-POC, women, gays, immigrants. White, straight, male no longer guarantees privilege and superiority. Those who have little education and NO historical or global perspective are panicky and desperate. They feel their life long certainties are slipping away and they only know how to lash out in anger and violence. Trump and his Republican cohorts think they can ride this wave and carry it to power. I can only hope that what they unleash ends up crushing them.

So sorry to hear that Trump is topic of conversation for Americans abroad.

On a happier note, look forward to hearing from you when PBO is at Hanover Messe in May, that most glorious month of year.

New thread has opened up — I miss a lot here because I’m out in my patio garden whenever possible — particularly exciting this morning because there’s dew (rare in SoCal so far this year).

We at TOD LOVE PBO’s foreign trips — they’re so exciting (not excited about the time difference, means most events are live in the wee hours on Pacific west coast :( ).

Can’t wait for PBO and FLOTUS’ trip to Cuba and Argentina during Easter week, then in May PBO will be in Germany and Vietnam (perhaps other countries as well, those are the ones I’m aware of).
