This is such an historic trip for this country that is appallingly overshadowed by #fraudsters Sanders and Trump.
Hereās my comment yesterday after JER posted this video of PBO arriving in Hanoi:

Many in TODville recall Vietnam as THE defining event of our youth, so emotionally stirring to see this sight of our President being greeted so graciously in a place that calls the war that ended in 1975 the āAmerican War.ā
Also grateful that Washington Post has sent one of their reporters who understands Japanese culture to cover PBOās trip to Japan and Hiroshima.
THANK YOU @washingtonpost for sending @DavidNakamura to cover @POTUS historic Asia trip. Loved his photo of #MtFuji while on @VP's Asia trip
And this is really true, according to people I know who have been to Vietnam:
Vietnamese press aide showing off Hanoi sites en route to @POTUS presser refers to building bombed during the "American War."
— David Nakamura (@DavidNakamura) May 23, 2025
Of course Vietnamese would refer to the 1960s-1970s war as “the American war” (on the heels of “the French war) — if youāre in Vietnam, you might call it a civil war (between north and south), but never “the Vietnam war.”
Yes, I saw your comment yesterday; also, I know what you mean about keeping oneās eyes open these days, though mine are more often open than closed. I was up until midnight waiting for a visiting teenager to get back home, then I woke up three times during the night!! Finally decided to call it quits around 6:10am.

Vietnam and the U.S. sign multiple agreements
By VnExpress May 23, 2025 | 11:33 am GMT+7
After a one hour talk, Vietnam President Tran Dai Quang and U.S. President Barack Obama have witnessed signing ceremonies of bilateral agreements at the Presidential Palace.
Following the meeting, both presidents witnessed signing ceremonies for various agreements. One is the purchase of 100 Boeing 737 Max by VietJet Air worth $11.3 billion.
Ministry of Industry and Trade has also signed a memorandum of understanding with General Electric on renewable energy development in Vietnam. Both parties aim to produce at least 1,000 MW of electricity from wind power projects by 2025.

In remarks to Quang, who until recently was head of the countryās internal security agency, Obama congratulated him on the “extraordinary progress” Vietnam had made.
“Whether we are talking about commercial and economic ties or military-to-military consultations or humanitarian work or our legacy of war issues … Across the board what weāve seen is increased cooperation for the benefit of both our peoples,” he said.
Vietnam has long been calling for the arms embargo to be lifted, arguing that buying weapons for self-defence from established trade partners is normal.
In a series of bilateral meetings with Vietnamās heads of state, Obama will discuss a range of issues, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP
Son if we listen to some idiots heās the worse President ever. He havenāt done a darn thing for this country. Good thing we donāt pay them any attention.
Gāmorning Chips & TOD! Congrats vc on #1, and Happy Monday everyone Hearty thanks to vc, arapaho, and Bob and others sfor posing informative videos, pics and tweets from our Presidentās & John Kerryās historic visit to Hanoi, Vietnam! I look forward the rest of this impactful trip.
I KNOW WHERE I WAS AT 2 A.M…………ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…HUGGING THE LAST LETTER IN THE ALPHABET!..I LOVE MY ENERGIZER PRESIDENT!..<3
I spent a lot of time the past two or three weeks talking to women, suburban white women in states like Virginia, also in places like North Carolina and Ohio, and even among women who voted for Romney in 2012, there is just a lot of reluctance about signing up to vote for Donald Trump. They worry about him across a range of issues. And if you think about this election in terms of margins, Barack Obama won 41 percent of white women. Even though he won women overall. If Clinton can hold Obamaās margins with minorities and pick off just a couple more percentage points among white women that makes it very difficult for him to win. ~ Julie Pace, Associated Press
I think that Hillary will be able to hold Obamaās margins with minorities. Her probably might lie with the white male of a certain age and economic level. Hillary shouldnāt have any problems getting the white female vote.
Thanks, Rikyrah. I think that Trump will destroy himself with women as the campaign goes on because heās incapable of suppressing his misogyny. He will say vulgar things about Hillary that will enrage normal women and cause them to think twice about voting for someone who completely devalues them. Of course there will be the devoted followers who will vote for anyone with an R after his name, even if he admits to drinking female blood for lunch.
President Obama has done more to elevate the image of the US in the world than any other president in my memory. Thatās why it angers me when people say ‘foreign policyā isnāt important in evaluating a president because all the US has to do is show its military strength and strut itās macho power around the world. They have no idea how complex the world is, how intricate our alliances are or how dependent we are on international cooperation for our survival. Only one candidate understands that interdependence and thatās Hillary Clinton. Sanders is an ignoramus in this area and Trump has no firmer grasp of international issues than a toddler. The US media presses the issue of Clintonās likeability, but fails to mention how respected she is around the world and how many strong international relationships she has developed. This isnāt just a “nice to have” if the US is going to thrive in the 21rst century. Itās a must!
But jg, this is no surprise to me, because that is exactly how these men are (generally speaking) in every aspect of their lives. They strut around their “macho-ness” in business and at home (as in I am the king of my castle) and they have no idea or care about understanding their wives and children other than to have them be just like them. More Stepford wives and children than anything else. They have no idea about how to have a loving relationship that is interdependent with their wives and children, like we see with POTUS and FLOTUS. Iām sure thatās another reason he is so disliked. We always hate the ones we are envious of.
And forgive my manners, but GM to everyone, and lovely to see you back with us this morning Chips. I hope your mother is doing much better.
And thank you to everyone for posting all the beautiful photos and the press conference of PBOās trip to Vietnam. So happy Secretary Kerry is there as well. Looking forward to more of both during the next few days. Have a good day everyone.
A twelve-year-old Indian-American boy, who was congratulated by President Barack Obama after he became the youngest ever to graduate from a US college, is eyeing to become a doctor by the time he turns 18 as he has been accepted to two prestigious university campuses.
Tanishq Abraham, a native of Sacramento in California, has been accepted to University of California (UC) Davis and received a regents scholarship to UC Santa Cruz. He is yet to decide in which university he will enroll.
“I think Iāll be 18 when I get my MD (medical degree),” Abraham was quoted as saying by CBC Sacramento television station yesterday.
He said he is just an ordinary kid who plays with video games and not just microscopes and just likes to learn.
Abraham will be a junior transfer student when he enrolls in either UC Davis or UC Santa Cruz.
OMG! Graduated college at 12-an MD by 18. What an amazing and brilliant young man! I hope he can handle the social/emotional challenges of college at such a young age. He will be a ‘one of a kindā student.
Dougie Houser! Good on him, but I would not want to have an 18 year old doctor. MRIās have shown that the judgement center of the brain does not fully develop until one is about 26 (this is the major reason that teenagers and 20 somethings are crazy). Skill is one thing, but experience, maturity and judgement are needed as well.
rikyrah, I listen to that last night and I did not like the way OāDonnell acted during that interview either. She would have never treated Trump like that.
Noraās Republican bias always manages to shine through during interviews like this. The woman was absolutely ecstatic when she thought Mittens beat the President in the first debate, and looked so disappointed when the President knocked Mittās block off in the next one.
Listened to @60minutes last night and was appalled at Norah OāDonnellās aggressive stance — youād think Valerie had gotten the US into an unnecessary war, which killed and maimed hundreds (thousands?) of US citizens, unstabilized an already fragile part of the world and shot a friend in the face. Oh wait, thatās the person who the MSM let slide with answers like “So what?” when confronted by the results of his actions.
Could not believe she attacked Valerie for lawmakers who themselves admit that they would be unelectable if merely seen in PBOās presence. CBS news is a mockery of journalism (especially because that really annoying and corrupt Lara Logan still reports for them.
Completely uncalled for — the interview would not have been conducted this way if (rest in peace) Morley Safer had interviewed Valerie.
Lost any smidgen of respect I once had for Norah last night.
My wife likes watching this guy, Bourdain, but to me he seems like a know-it-all prick. If it were up to me President Obama would be dining with the guy from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Oh, can you see POTUS and Guy cruising around in Guyās red convertible, going from one fabulous greasy spoon to the next? FLOTUS would not be happy about it, but POTUS would be in heaven. And so would I if my body would let me eat like that every day. YUM, on several levels, tee hee.
i am so sorry that you are unable to come to DC…i will miss meeting you…but i do understand…perhaps we can all try to have a TOD-Meet-Up2 in Chitown when the Obama Library and Museum opens.
Thx so much, pf. I canāt tell you how much I looked forward to meeting all of you amazing people. I think a visit to the Obama 44 Presidential Library would be a stellar follow-up. Iāve never been to Chicago and have always wanted to go!
So, in public, heās all ‘ No, they shouldnāt be let into the country.ā
But now, heās talking to them on the side?
Yeah, ok with that.

Trump camp quietly courts Muslims
Jonathan Easley
Donald Trumpās top foreign policy adviser has quietly opened backchannels within Muslim and Middle Eastern communities in the U.S. in an attempt to win over a small but increasingly important voting bloc.
Walid Phares, a top national security adviser for Trump, has been courting prominent Muslim Republicans and conservative Middle Eastern activists in the U.S.
Some Muslim Republicans and conservative Middle Eastern activists have also engaged with other top campaign officials about furthering Trumpās outreach to those communities.
In a Friday phone interview with The Hill, Phares said Trump campaign officials had not directed him to engage with the groups. Rather, he described the talks as a natural extension of the relationships heās built over decades of policy work on Middle Eastern affairs.
Phares said that he initiated contact with several individuals and groups to ask them to organize for Trump or to sell them on Trumpās positions in hopes that theyād at some point support the likely GOP nominee.
This is only the beginning. This deadbeat is going to walk back, back track, and take back everything he said during the primaries. Itās too damn late to put that Genie back in the bottle, as Jeb Bush and the rest of the party know all too well.
OK, bella, as it turns out, itās one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes!
BĆŗn chįŗ£ is a Vietnamese dish of grilled pork and noodle, which is thought to have originated from Hanoi, Vietnam. Bun cha pork is served over a plate of white rice noodles and aromatic herbs with a rich broth and a side dish of dipping sauce. YUM.
So good to see PBO once again overseas making us proud and making the world better. He and his admin. have cleaned up so many of the U S mess of the past 50 years or more. He has given this country many pathways to be truly great in respectful, effective leadership around the world and here at home. I do not believe that God/fate/providence or whatever you may believe in, would have allowed us to get to this point only for us to lose it in a few months. Yes, we must do our parts in deciding the nationās and to some extent, much of the worldās fate, but I am already claiming the victory. We will not have a trump or a burn (purposeful use of lower cap letters) in the White House in 2017. I am soaking up the goodness and the beauty of these last months of the greatest U S president in modern times (possibly all times) and remembering to “Let not my heart be troubled.”
AMEN INDEED CEB…THE PRESIDENT WHO HAS BEEN SPAT UPON BY HIS OWN COUNTRY…RISES HIGHER THAN THE TAUNTING WAVES OF THE IGNORANT..AND WHILE HE IS AT IT..HE CLEANS UP THEIR ROOM!
What is this bullshyt about him PHONING IN to programs?
I donāt think Hillary PHONES IN to programs, does she?

Stage set for historic 2016 showdown over guns
05/23/16 08:00 AM
By Steve Benen
Over the last generation or so, presidential elections have generally followed a predictable trajectory when it comes to guns: Republicans have partnered with the NRA, warning voters that Democrats are going to pursue dramatic changes to gun laws, while Democrats, feeling defensive, have insisted that little, if anything, will change.
Indeed, about a year ago, the Washington Post explained, āFor at least the past several decades, Democrats seeking national office have often been timid on the issue of guns for fear of alienating firearms owners.ā It was an observation rooted in fact: guns have served as a powerful wedge issue, drawing lines Dems were afraid to cross.
This year is poised to be very different.
On the Republican ticket, Donald Trump has abandoned some of his previous positions and sworn fealty to a right-wing vision on gun policy. Late Friday, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee spoke at the National Rifle Associationās annual gathering and condemned, of all things, gun-free school zones. Yesterday, Trump went just a little further.
Phoning in to āFox & Friendsā Sunday, Trump contradicted himself multiple times when asked to respond to [Hillary] Clinton, saying, āI donāt want to have guns in classrooms, although in some cases teachers should have guns in classrooms, frankly,ā because āthe things that are going on in our schools are unbelievable.ā Then, he said, āIām not advocating guns in classrooms, but remember in some cases ⦠trained teachers should be able to have guns in classrooms.ā
Fox News…..Scientists: Michelle Obamaās nutrition facts label not based on science . Now all of a sudden Fox believe what scientist says, but when scientists talk of climate change they donāt believe them. Probably the same Fox scientists who say climate change is not real.
Isnāt it funny how we rarely ever seem to see the other leaders when PBO is anywhere in the vicinity? I so forgot that *ahem* other leaders were also on the move!

Donald Trumpās āshadyā support for veterans
05/23/16 09:20 AM
By Steve Benen
When Democrats make the case that Donald Trump has a controversial background when it comes to veteransā issues, itās not just wishful thinking. The presumptive Republican nominee, for example, has drawn criticism for supporting a privatization plan for veteransā care. His associations with the sketchy Veterans for a Strong America exacerbated the problem.
And it certainly didnāt help matters when Trump, who avoided military service during the Vietnam War, said he āfeltā like heād served in the military because his parents sent him to a military-themed boarding school as a teenager. The Republican went so far as to boast that his expensive prep school gave him āmore training militarily than a lot of the guys that go into the military.ā
Making matters much worse are new questions about Trump and veterans-related fundraising.
In January, the New York Republican skipped a debate in Iowa to instead hold a fundraiser for veterans. Trump repeatedly boasted at the time that, thanks to his bold leadership, heās raised $6 million for vets. Trump added that heād contributed $1 million out of his own pocket.
Whatever happened to all of that money? The Washington Post took a closer look.
Trump is such a charlatan! Seems to me that he is always playing with other peopleās money in the sort of sleight of hand used by od-fashioned street corner card tricksters.
This is the final section from the above article; note the final concluding sentence …..
“The newspaper found, however, āNot a single one of those donations was actually a personal gift of Trumpās own money.ā ”
// …………………………………………………………….
Just so weāre clear, thereās ample evidence that Trump did raise millions for veterans and some organizations benefited from the donations.
There is, however, additional evidence that Trumpās specific claims about the amount of money raised werenāt true, and for whatever reason, the Republican candidate and his team have been reluctant to account for the money in detail. Indeed, when asked for details about how Trumpās $1 million was allocated, the GOP candidateās campaign manager responded, āHeās not going to share that information.ā
Postscript: To put this in a slightly larger context, in April, the Washington Post reported on Trumpās frequent boasts that heās given āmore than $102 million to charity in the past five years.ā The newspaper found, however, āNot a single one of those donations was actually a personal gift of Trumpās own money.ā
Veteran campaign reporters are calling on media outlets to sharply increase their fact-checking of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, telling Media Matters āthe stakes are too highā to let Trump get away with peddling conspiracy theories and near-constant falsehoods.
In the week since Trumpās win in the Indiana presidential primary essentially clinched the nomination for him, the candidate has faced criticism from media critics and fact-checkers for his continued embrace of outlandish conspiracy theories. CNNās Brian Stelter on Sunday called on journalists to confront Trump āhead-onā over his misinformation. Washington Post fact checker Glenn Kessler hit a similar note in a May 7 article, writing that outlets have āno excuseā to let Trump get away with falsehoods.
In conversations with Media Matters, Kessler and several veteran presidential campaign reporters highlighted the sheer tonnage of misinformation from Trump, with several arguing that outlets need to be more aggressive when challenging the Republican.
āThe Trump lies are so many and they come out at such a rapid fire, Gatling-gun fashion, it is hard for the reporters to keep up in May. I can just imagine what it will be like in October,ā said Walter Shapiro, who covered nine presidential campaigns dating back to 1980 for The Washington Post, Newsweek, Salon and others. āThe most important thing is that you donāt put the fact checks in some separate envelope done by the fact-check expert. You have to put as many fact checks as you can in the story of the speech, in the story of the assertion and if necessary donāt resort to euphemisms, like āmisspoke.ā He did not misspeak, he did not obfuscate, he did not miss the meaning — he lied.ā
THE PASTORS IN OUR CHURCH ARE QUITE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT THERE IS A LACK OF RACIAL UNITY IN OTHER CHURCHES…WE WILL BE HITTING THE STREETS AS AN EXAMPLE TO OTHERS! ITāS GOING TO BE ONE HELL OF A DANCE!….GLAD TO SEE MY PRESIDENT IS ENJOYING HIS ASIAN VISIT..HE IS A MAN OF COMPASSION AND LOVED BY MANY..GET YOUR OWN!
I usually avoid sharing any negative thoughts that I have because I want this glorious place to be a light that informs, uplifts, and challenges us to be our best selves. But this is something that I have been thinking about: all other minority groups (with the possible exception of Puerto Ricans and Mexicans) until the advent of 9/11 (for Muslim Americans) and Trumpism (for everyone) lived in this world where they thought that they were White. Many anglicized their names (looking at you Bobby Jindal), took on the White racist attitudes toward A-Aās, voted Republican, and walked around in the bubble that was their experience of the American Dream. Now, Trump and his media enablers have rolled up the carpet and pulled the sheets from the heads of the haters to show all other minorities that You Are Not One Of Us. Suddenly they are afraid; the whiteness that they thought that they were so covered in that they joined in the attitudes toward A-A that they now decry because they are being affected by it. At least, they are not being shot down like dogs (yet). When the mob comes for anyone it is always our duty to speak up and to speak put and to act. If we do not, there will be no one around to left to help when the mob turns its hateful eyes on you. While racism, sexism, homophobia or any other hateful -ism is a stain on our humanity and our national identity, a part of me just nods my head and thinks: see, now YOU see and feel only a small part of what A-Aās have lived with since Jamestown; what are you prepared to do?
you speak all sorts of truth. When Trump came out with the comments about Mexicans, I was there. When he came out with this nonsense about Muslims. I was there. NOT because I have any special affinity towards Muslims, or because they have shown themselves to be allies of the Black Community, but because, I know, that anything that is applied to ANYONE ELSE THAT IS NOT WHITE IN AMERICA….will find its way to be applied to Black folk. So, Black people, by default, pretty much stand up for others, because we know…WE KNOW..that if we donāt stop it at someone elseās door…it will wind up on OUR OWN door.
‘Cause that is how he rolls; get it done and keep it moving. Funny how this mild, even-tempered, intellectual is the baddest MF who has ever sat in the CIC chair. Revenge, justice or whatever you want to call it is indeed a dish best served cold.
that would be amazing. Do you know how many people STILL in this age group, continue to work, but could retire, if only they could be assured of their medical coverage?

“Whether we are talking about commercial and economic ties or military-to-military consultations or humanitarian work or our legacy of war issues … Across the board what weāve seen is increased cooperation for the benefit of both our peoples,” he said.
Vietnam has long been calling for the arms embargo to be lifted, arguing that buying weapons for self-defence from established trade partners is normal.
In a series of bilateral meetings with Vietnamās heads of state, Obama will discuss a range of issues, including the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP

Boeing again, Boeing should erect a statue at its corporate headquarters of President Obama. He has time and time again made massive deals for them.
Son if we listen to some idiots heās the worse President ever. He havenāt done a darn thing for this country. Good thing we donāt pay them any attention.
I meant Don, not Son..
LOL!! bella, that was the first laugh Iāve had since I got in the office this morning. Thank you!
They may yet do so…. thereās time. š
Gāmorning Chips & TOD! Congrats vc on #1, and Happy Monday everyone
Hearty thanks to vc, arapaho, and Bob and others sfor posing informative videos, pics and tweets from our Presidentās & John Kerryās historic visit to Hanoi, Vietnam! I look forward the rest of this impactful trip.
MSNBC and CNN carried POTUS and Quang press conference this morning about 2am.
I KNOW WHERE I WAS AT 2 A.M…………ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…HUGGING THE LAST LETTER IN THE ALPHABET!..I LOVE MY ENERGIZER PRESIDENT!..<3
12-yr-old Tanishq Abraham to become doctor at 18.

Itās obvious that kid is beyond those theories.
Smart kid. I wish him continued success /whisper….but I sure wouldnāt be comfortable with him as my (teen) doctor no matter how simple the illness/!

Nora OāDonnell being disrespectful to Valerie Jarrett.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/60-minutes-white-house-aid-valerie-jarrett-obama/
rikyrah, I listen to that last night and I did not like the way OāDonnell acted during that interview either. She would have never treated Trump like that.
Noraās Republican bias always manages to shine through during interviews like this. The woman was absolutely ecstatic when she thought Mittens beat the President in the first debate, and looked so disappointed when the President knocked Mittās block off in the next one.
GM rikyrah.
Morning….my last week of school!

Good morning, good people. Hope your Monday goes as smoothly as possible!
This sounds like FUN:
My wife likes watching this guy, Bourdain, but to me he seems like a know-it-all prick. If it were up to me President Obama would be dining with the guy from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
Yeah, Bourdain likes to act sassy but heās a pretty nice guy IRL. I think the comedy and food chatter with PBO will be off-the-charts!
Yes, yes, sassy, thatās the word I was looking for. Heās a not a prick in the true sense of the word, not like a Tucker Carlson level prick.
Meta….
i am so sorry that you are unable to come to DC…i will miss meeting you…but i do understand…perhaps we can all try to have a TOD-Meet-Up2 in Chitown when the Obama Library and Museum opens.

They must think muslims are dumb. I mean the media asshats.
This is only the beginning. This deadbeat is going to walk back, back track, and take back everything he said during the primaries. Itās too damn late to put that Genie back in the bottle, as Jeb Bush and the rest of the party know all too well.
Smart!

I love our curious President.
Okay what is buncha?
Dunno!
YUM.
DONāT FORGET A LITTLE SIDE SPLASH OF KIMCHEE TO AWAKEN THE TONGUE AND EVENTUALLY THE INTESTINAL TRACT..LOL!!!!
GM, TOD ohana.

// …………………………………………………………….
Postscript: To put this in a slightly larger context, in April, the Washington Post reported on Trumpās frequent boasts that heās given āmore than $102 million to charity in the past five years.ā The newspaper found, however, āNot a single one of those donations was actually a personal gift of Trumpās own money.ā
http://mediamatters.org/blog/2016/05/11/veteran-campaign-reporters-stakes-are-too-high-let-trump-get-away-constant-lying/210328
We KNowwwwwww,……BoooooooooM!

I just can hardly believe that Iām cool enough to exist at this moment in time in the same world as President Barack Hussein Obama.
