    For all he’s accomplished in his life, President Barack Obama said on Tuesday that he’s still most proud to be a dad.
    “Malia and Sasha, under the strangest of circumstances, you have become two amazing young women, smart and beautiful, but more importantly, kind and thoughtful and full of passion,” Obama said in his farewell address in Chicago. “You wore the burden of years in the spotlight so easily. Of all that I’ve done in my life, I’m most proud to be your dad.”

    Last night was a sad time for me, like all of you, but it was another what I call a transcendent moment with President Obama these last twelve years.

    The first was his speech in Boston in 2004. My husband said at the time…..”He will be president some day.”
    The second was seeing him here in OKC in 2007. He was then, what he is now.
    The third was the night he won the Iowa caucuses.
    Next, was the Democratic convention in Denver, and her speech, then his galvanizing speech.
    After that came the campaign, and of course an amazing transcendent moment election night outdoors in Chicago. I will NEVER forget that.
    Of course, his first inauguration was a transcendent moment. Like millions of others I was transfixed, from the very beginning to the last dance. I thought, this is what I have waited for all my life.
    Transcendent moments I can remember during his first term were the signing of the ACA! I was thrilled. His speech to the British Parliament where I saw his brilliance on full display to the rapt attention of people who understood. The night he announced the killing of bin Laden.

    That is the first part. I will post the second part later, But, I feel so fortunate to have had these transcendent moments because of our President. I believe there will be more, now after last night.

Many of those who voted for him want to be him or want to be a jewel-laden trophy wife. The kind of man who will not upset the status quo and the social attitudes that place the wealthy and all white people above everyone else. The kind of man that too many believed that if he is winning, they will also, in the face of all evidence to the contrary. This is the kind of man who has set himself and others up for a great fall.

          Many will still continue to excuse his actions for various reasons unless they feel, smell, touch, hear and see; in short experience the consequences in their own lives, they will continue to excuse his actions. How many times have we seen people “change” their minds about President Obama only after they experience a pain and find out that the policy they had thought was a death trap (courtesy of fox channel lies) ended up being good for them and their families and saved them from death, bankruptcy or both?

        Offline this morning, did catch a snippet or two about this on the radio — local CBS affiliate @knx1070 had a couple from David Frum, who said instead of divesting himself from his business, DJT has entrenched his involvement with his companies.

        Radio also told me that 250 (!) people from the press were at the press conference — these people are true infostainers as Dr. Bob describes — they “report” only on the spectacle and the drama, not what’s meaningful to Americans.

        Also one of the few things I heard re: DJT “press conference” was clapping when that woman from Morgan Lewis finished reading whatever she had in front of her — WTH??? at a press conference?

        Why the hell did people clap? Was it DJT staff or MSM (or in the case of Bannon/Breitbart/Hannity, one and the same)?

          I could not be more in disagreement with John about his vitriolic attacks on President Obama, but (as others who feel the same way as I do have noted) his insights are worthy of consideration especially since he’s as partisan a Republican as you can find and is still actually giving Trump relevant advice!!

    Alleged Russian Liaison to Trump Campaign Was In News Yesterday Hyping Trump and Talking Trash

    There’s so much to digest in the leaked intelligence report on Donald Trump’s connections to Vladimir Putin and Russia that I feel like I’m drinking from a firehouse. I want to just throw one quick thing at you. I noticed the following excerpt about an alleged meeting in Prague between Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen and Russian operatives that was supposed to have occurred in late August or possibly the first week in September.

    I was intrigued at the idea that Putin might utilize a member of the Duma to provide plausible deniability about official communications with the Trump campaign, so I looked to see what I could find about Konstantin Kosachev and whether he was active in talking up Trump and talking down Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Amazingly, I found a TASS article published just yesterday where Kosachev was quite vocally trashing Obama and crowing about the demise of the United States as a global leader and “winner” of the Cold War.

    That sounds a lot like a man who may have worked to elect Trump in order to destroy American leadership, win a lifting of crippling economic sanctions on Russia, raise the price of oil and gas, and then be at pains to deny his role in the whole affair.

    It’s just one piece, but it’s a piece that deserves deep inspection by our Congress and our intelligence agencies.

    Of course, Michael Cohen took to Twitter to rebut the charge that he visited Prague, but there was just one little problem with his argument.

    The intelligence report first reported that the meeting with Cohen took place in an “operationally soft” country in the European Union because it was considered too “hot” to meet with him in Moscow. Only later did the report offer intelligence that the meeting had been in the Czech Republic. This will all need to be cleared up, but Cohen’s denials aren’t going to be sufficient. We need his full itinerary.

    Needless to say, if the allegations in this report are true, Donald Trump cannot be our president.

        Bob, I don’t see that PBO has any authority to stop the inauguration. The only way to stop Trump is for the FBI to arrest him for treason before the inauguration. After the inauguration only the GOP Congress get rid of him, or the military, by force to save the country from peril.

          I wasn’t in any way implying the President Obama could “stop the Inauguration,” Bill.

          But, he and the AG have a duty to protect the US from any form of threat to our National Security. At this point, I have ZERO doubt that Trump is such a threat and ZERO doubt that not just the FBI and other Agencies have the evidence.

          In fact, I think the person who now may be more concerned about a Trump Presidency than anyone is Putin.

          It’s one thing to have a flunky, a mole, a whatever … but to have one as demonstrably unstable as Trump – fully nuke armed – is a threshold Putin would not want materialized.

          Each of those statements is a ‘testable hypothesis,’ as I’m sure you realize, Bill.

          All we have to do is watch what is ‘leaked’ in the coming hours, days …. because learning that any of those hypotheses is true subsequent to Trump being Inaugurated will be way to late to matter to humanity.

          This election has been such an excellent reason to look things up, refresh our memory on all things Constitutional. 🙂

          I found this in regards to PBO’s responsibility regarding national security (if that is the charge we are assigning to Trump/Putin)

          Article Two establishes the President as the government’s chief executive officer. Much of that Article relates to the method for choosing the President and sets forth the general executive powers of his office, such as the appointment and veto powers. The only substantive function of government specifically assigned to the President relates to national security and foreign policy, and the first such responsibility granted him is authority to command the military; he is the “Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States.”

          So, I still believe that it is Congress and the AG who is needed to halt the inauguration.

          No, there is not. DT cannot be charged with treason because officially he has not yet taken any oath to the US. And even if there were an arrest or charge of some statute, that is not a conviction. This is going to have to play itself out, to our dismay. We are stuck with what the voters did on November 8. And I would not count on the GOP Congress to do anything. Most of them are too afraid of DT. Given this mess before he even takes office, I shudder to think of what is to come.

        I personally do not believe calling will make a difference in this, your representatives are too afraid of their own shadow to do anything. Those who want to, are too concerned about their careers than they are about doing what is right or they are just simply afraid.

        Unfortunately should this guy be inaugurated, Americans will find themselves fighting for the survival of their nation not just the soul of it. All US allies are bracing themselves for this and making alternate plans.

        Though there are consequences to stopping the inauguration, I personally think that the fallout should he be inaugurated will be far worse. This is of course my personal opinion.

        This is like an alternate reality situation. It is just simply unbelievable what is happening.

    Coretta Scott King Opposed Jeff Sessions, and Still Would

    I don’t know if Coretta Scott King still pulls any water in Congress, but she once did. In fact, she may have been influential enough in 1986 to sink the confirmation of Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III to serve as judge in the southern district of Alabama. She was unable to appear in person to testify against Sessions, so she wrote a long detailed letter to the Judiciary Committee explaining her strident opposition to the idea of giving Sessions a lifetime appointment. The committee chairman, Strom Thurmond, somehow managed not to enter the letter into the congressional record, but that didn’t prevent it from having some influence. In particular, Alabama Senator Howell Heflin surprised the Reagan administration by rescinding his earlier support and voting against Sessions in committee. This effectively sunk Sessions’ confirmation hopes.

    For a long time, no one could locate a copy of King’s statement, but Wesley Lowery of the Washington Post has managed to unearth it and you can now read it for yourself.

    This all happened a mere eighteen years after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, which is considerably less time than has elapsed since. Maybe there’s no longer a consensus that King’s work had immense almost sacred value and that people like Sessions are an affront to his legacy. But I think Coretta’s testimony should stand, and it should count for much more when considering Sessions for the position of Attorney General of the United States.

    I don’t see anything in Sessions’ subsequent record that would have changed her mind about his suitability for a position of such responsibility and I am certain that she would see Sessions as an outright threat to voting rights and the accomplishments of the movement of which she and her husband were such an important part.

      Me, too, Meta. My co-worker told me this morning, she was trying to hold it together until she saw Malia crying. These young women are so poised and graceful. I would love to follow them along into their next chapter of life — the whole family. Just exceptional people.

    Here’s what I did on spur of the moment this afternoon. Called all three of my reps and here’s my message: My TN reps have a choice to make. I’m calling it the Howard Baker moment. Howard Baker had a choice to make during the Nixon Watergate era and we know, the country knows, what that choice was. He chose country over party. My TN reps are now faced with the same opportunity. They have the opportunity to do the right thing for our country and choose our country or the Republican Party. I said a few more things but that was the main message.

    Also, when I called Alexander’s office (local), first thing I said was that I would want my message read back to me. The young man said something to the effect that they are being inundated with calls……..that he was very busy and wouldn’t have time to read it back. I didn’t push him on that. Was happy to hear they are getting so many calls. That means we are being “citizens”, right? 🙂 That we are doing our job as a citizen. 🙂

        Steve Kroft who was caught in an adulterous affair and has not had a big feature on 60 minutes since. He was hateful and dismissive to PBO during the first campaign and in the early years of the presidency. One of his brags to his mistress ( a married A-A lawyer) was that he was the go to person for interview with PBO. I wish that they had chosen someone younger and hungrier, not this has been.
