Donald Trump Jr. Was So Far Out of His League
    by Martin Longman
    July 12, 2017 2:54 PM

If, as seems likely, Julia Ioffe is correct that Yury Chaika, the prosecutor-general of the Russian Federation, is the “Crown Prosecutor” referred to in Donald Trump Jr.’s email chain, everyone involved should be concerned about their physical safety.

According to Ioffe, Chaika should be considered the Russian equivalent of Jeff Sessions, the U.S. Attorney General. That might not seem so scary, but Russia’s government is so violent and so intertwined with organized crime, that crossing their Attorney General is a perilous decision.

This is important for understanding why Rob Goldstone is insisting without the remotest plausibility that he was referring in his email to Trump Jr. to Natalia Veselnitskaya when he said that “the Crown prosecutor of Russia met with … Aras [Agalarov] this morning and in their meeting offered to provide some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.”

Put simply, Mr. Goldstone doesn’t want to be killed and if he confirmed that he was referring to Mr. Chaika his death would be a distinct possibility.

    https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-russia-lawyer-marc-kasowitz-alcohol-security-clearance?utm_campaign=sprout&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_content=1499887212

The ongoing investigations into alleged collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia involve reams of classified material. Yet Marc Kasowitz, the New York lawyer whom President Donald Trump has hired to defend him in these inquiries, told ProPublica through a spokesman that he does not have a security clearance — the prerequisite for access to government secrets. Nor does he expect to seek one.

Several lawyers who have represented presidents and senior government officials said they could not imagine handling a case so suffused with sensitive material without a clearance.

“No question in my mind — in order to represent President Trump in this matter you would have to get a very high level of clearance because of the allegations involving Russia,” said Robert Bennett, who served as President Bill Clinton’s personal lawyer. Like many Washington lawyers, Bennett has held security clearances throughout his career.

As the spotlight on Russia intensifies with new email disclosures that his son, son-in-law, and then-campaign manager met in June 2016 with a Russian attorney who promised damaging information about Hillary Clinton, Kasowitz’s lack of a security clearance could hinder the president’s legal and political response to the scandal.

One possible explanation for Kasowitz’s decision not to pursue a clearance: He might have trouble getting one.

Russian Officials Overheard Discussing Trump Associates Before Campaign Began

U.S. intelligence starting in the spring of 2015 detected conversations in which Russian government officials discussed meetings with Trump associates

WASHINGTON—U.S. intelligence agencies starting in the spring of 2015 detected conversations in which Russian government officials discussed associates of Donald Trump, several months before he declared his candidacy for president, according to current and former U.S. officials.

In some cases, the Russians in the overheard conversations talked about meetings held outside the U.S. involving Russian government officials and Trump business associates or advisers, these people said.

Chris Hayes irritates to me the core!

    • July 12, 2017 at 7:03 pm

I can’t tolerate him. There something insidious and pernicious about him, that makes him dangerous to Democratic causes.

      • 68 hopefruit2
        July 12, 2017 at 7:19 pm

YES! I’ve never trusted him because he strikes me a raving Bernie bro/Libertarian (Snowdenista/Greenwaldian) who tries to disguise his true feelings by pushing complicated, but ultimately meaningless analyses and punditry, or propaganda designed to depress Democratic voters and Obama supporters. I mean the guy posted a 10-part thread just to say that Trump supporters still support him in the wake of evidence of Russian collusion. DUH!?!?

And Hayes feigns great surprise, like this is such a shocking revelation…

Anyone who’s been paying attention knows that nothing would change Trump supporters’ minds short of Trump openly stating that “Barack Obama is full fledged American patriot and one of the GREATEST presidents ever” because their support for him hinges on (1) his anti-Obama positions, and (2) his white supremacist ideological positions.

We do not need 10-20 part Twitter threads from the likes of Peter Daou and Chris Hayes on why Trump still has support when we all know the simplest explanation, which is that Trump is criming while white…

why do I think that this is an evil plan hitched by turtle to get two outcomes:

      (a) use the votes of the conservatives to destroy Obamacare and Medicaid;

      (b) save the republican senate majority because all we have heard throughout this short debate is the strong opposition to it from the “moderate” republicans. these senators can use “their well-publicized public opposition” to show the voters that they were “fighting for them” and so can’t be voted out.

maybe I have become so cynical where these evil republicans are concerned

republicans trying to protect the homegrown demagogue by blocking the congressional and senate investigation.

but they may regret this, hearings makes most people more familiar with the details and make lessen the shock value.

The investigative journalists in the different media outlets are not going away and they will continue breaking stories as details are leaked from different quarters.

Most importantly, Special Counsel Mueller is not going away. His investigations will continue. one can only if the gop quashes exposure through congressional hearings and then next we know when people are being arrested and taking pleas.

I guess, once Director Comey was fired and Special Counsel Mueller was appointed, there is no turning back now … unless he is fired
