I have seen 3 different outlets that have posted photo spreads of the Obamas in honor of their 25th anniversary. This has not happened for any First Couple, especially for one that is out of office. Many people love how they love which is wide enough to include many others, especially young people. Now look what we have: a three time married serial cheater and sexual predator. Republicans will never be able to make the character argument, which was always false and hypocritical, again.

re: CEB upthread — how wonderful that news outlets are highlight the Obama’s Silver Anniversary.

It is a significant milestone, glad that we can share the occasion with them. 🙂

And all of those folks met him in that room, taking photos of him, and scrambled for food as he threw it out like they were peasants. Didn’t he realize how demeaning that was? The food could have been delivered quietly. PBO would never do something like that. The mayor was there also, and he treated her like a non-person. I am appalled at his disgusting behavior toward those citizens.

If you read the link – this got changed – someone saw that it was not such a great idea. (Not that it takes away from the horror of trump).

His b.s. trip to PR should never has happened – it was obvious before, after and during – he does not consider them to be US citizens. Has he asked NY and NJ to repay the aid they received after Sandy? Or Texas and Florida? – then again the latter haven’t received the aid they need – but still more than PR.

Talk to your Climate gurus and make sure your natural disaster occurs during a dem administration

      • October 3, 2017 at 8:58 pm

Oh, 99, you can’t imagine how horrific this is. Every day a new travesty from someone who isn’t fit to set foot in the WH, let alone run it. It’s just completely revolting.

It is horrendous from my side of the world – what he is doing to world relations, fighting with every country that used to be friends with the US – and wondering if he is going to blow us up or kill us because he will not accept climate change. Politicians are known for stretching the truth – this guy stretches the lies.

Cannot image living with it in the US – racist dumb imbecile is too kind a description.

I still don’t like Trump or his admin, but it seems like they subsequently changed their minds.

      • October 3, 2017 at 8:56 pm

WHY put people through this agony? Why make them feel for one second that they’re not worthy? UGH, I just feel sickened.

O Meta, I don’t for a minute think they changed their minds because they care; it’s likely just in reaction to the backlash. Trump and his servers/minions have shown who they are (soul-less, mean, self-centred creatures) from the beginning and nothing, NOTHING the pundits say will change that!

          October 3, 2017 at 9:33 pm

The first thing that gets me is … why are people being charged for prepared meals? It’s a full-on emergency. Many no longer have working kitchens in which to prepare food or restaurants to go to, or cash or credit cards or food stamps, at this point. They went through a devastating hurricane. Are they talking about prepared meals in the evacuation centers? I don’t care either if they can pay with food stamps or cash – why aren’t the meals being given to them, at no charge? There are plenty of donations coming in, etc., to repay the cost after the fact (to restaurant owners or others) if needed. Why isn’t FEMA responsible for the cost? What the fuck are they doing with our tax dollars? It’s not as though all of the people have been able to cook for themselves OR THEIR CHILDREN OR ELDERLY family members, I’d imagine, at this point.

Don’t even know if what I just typed makes sense … I’m livid with rage.

          • October 3, 2017 at 9:43 pm

You capture my fury perfectly. Of all the freakin’ things to quibble over in the middle of all this –>> FOOD. Sustenance. A meal. These are all the thoughts that blew through me as I read about how this admin views PR and the travesty that will only get worse. Trump must pay for this horror show, sooner or later.

MOTIVES, MOTIVES, MOTIVES: When Trump tries to head off the National gun heat by saying “not for now”?
59 KILLED and 500 INJURED by a domestic terrorist with what’s looking like a fully automatic machine gun…illegal for citizens since 1986.
Oh no, you don’t think the nra is leaning on him because they gave him $30 + million?!!!
Media what do you think are Trump’s MOTIVES?

    • October 3, 2017 at 9:39 pm

America is 4% of world population yet owns half the world’s guns. Without up-to-date commensurate gun laws what could go wrong?

A gang of industrious and audacious robbers was arrested on Tuesday after digging a 500m long tunnel to try and steal $405m from a bank vault in Sao Paulo.

    Economic Anxiety, though…

    uh huh
    uh huh

The share of white millionaires in the United States has doubled in the past quarter-century, with 1 in 7 white families now worth more than $1 million, according to new Federal Reserve data.

Fifteen percent of white families reported being millionaires, compared with 7 percent in the Fed’s 1992 Survey of Consumer Finances.

The dramatic growth in white millionaires reflects a widening economic gulf, with the top 1 percent of households holding 24 percent of income in 2016, a record high.
It also highlights a deepening racial disparity.

The percentage of black and Hispanic households worth more than $1 million has remained around or below 2 percent since 1992.

  69. October 4, 2017 at 9:55 am

    Uh huh
    Uh huh

    Curious, don’t you think?

In the spring of 2012, Donald Trump’s two eldest children, Ivanka Trump and Donald Trump, Jr., found themselves in a precarious legal position. For two years, prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney’s office had been building a criminal case against them for misleading prospective buyers of units in the Trump SoHo, a hotel and condo development that was failing to sell. Despite the best efforts of the siblings’ defense team, the case had not gone away. An indictment seemed like a real possibility. The evidence included e-mails from the Trumps making clear that they were aware they were using inflated figures about how well the condos were selling to lure buyers.

The European Union has launched a fresh crackdown over taxes paid by tech giants Amazon and Apple.

Amazon has been ordered to repay €250m (£221m; $293m) in back taxes after the European Commission said it had been given an unfair tax deal in Luxembourg.

The Commission also plans to take Ireland to court over its failure to collect €13bn of back taxes from Apple.

Amazon denied it owed any back tax, saying it did “not receive any special treatment from Luxembourg”.

“We will study the Commission’s ruling and consider our legal options, including an appeal,” an Amazon spokesperson said.

But European Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager said the Luxembourg arrangement meant that Amazon had been allowed to pay “substantially less tax than other businesses”, which it said was “illegal under EU state aid rules”.

“Luxembourg gave illegal tax benefits to Amazon. As a result, almost three-quarters of Amazon’s profits were not taxed,” Ms Vestager added.

She said Amazon paid four times less tax than other local companies.

“Member states cannot give selective tax benefits to multinational groups that are not available to others,” she added.

White House says Puerto Rico must fix its debt problem: CNN interview

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – White House budget director Mick Mulvaney on Wednesday backed away from U.S. President Donald Trump’s comments a day earlier calling for the storm-hit island’s debt to be wiped out.

In an interview on CNN, the Office of Management and Budget director said Trump was referring to Puerto Rico’s need to fix its own debt issues through its oversight board.

“I wouldn’t take it word for word,” Mulvaney said of Trump’s comments late Tuesday.
