Happy Thanksgiving! Fortunately no conservatives in our Thanksgiving gathering although some who are critical re Geithner and Wall Street bailout. The most amazing statistic is the 275% growth for top 1% vs only 18% growth over the last 30 years for the 99%. Worst inequality since the depression.

Let us count our blessings for our President and First Family, Vice President, Dr. Jill; all our OFA organizers, volunteers; our TOD community; pragmatic Obots everywhere, and for Chips’s tireless work.

I’ve been aware of presidents since Ike; the current one is the only one I have donated, worked for, and been such an advocate for. I admired Kennedy but was less engaged; demonstrated against the war in SE Asia; I won’t even mention to GOP presidents; and Clinton had so many skletons (from affairs to executing a severely cognitively disabled inmate Rector just to boost his primary chances in NH).

I do, Tracy. Count our blessings for the Obama Admin & the wonderfully awesome peeps in the reality realm.. I’d hear big news about whatever Clinton did but I was only really aware since Gore won and the bush coup happened for 8 years.

And, then along came Obama and I could not believe our good fortune..the perfect President for our time in history.

I’m working on updating a blog post I wrote a few months ago that outlines how much of the 2008 Democratic Platform that has been implemented by the Obama administration. I need some help please.

Can someone find for me an article that speaks to the New Orleans levies being rebuilt to withstand a 100 year flood?

Wow, Chips, you even update on a Holiday. That is a great video to help some people. Thankfully all the people we are dinning with are like minded. We are getting ready to put on the turkey. We won’t be eating until 6pm tonight. I love being able to get ready and not feel rushed. Have heard from most of my family, via phone, text, email and a hug. It has been a perfect day. Hope everyone else is having one too. Always remember there is a family here that loves you!!!!!!

Same here or I should say I had. I blocked them. I make it standard practice to carefully review GOP/Right Wing Followers for the usual PBO bashing, lies, misinformation, hijinks and racism. So far all who have attempted to follow were nothing more than rabid GOP Shills, Hacks & Douchebags. Further, these followers often retweet your tweets provoking their followers to troll & attack. I’m not tweeting for my health-my goal is to deseminate, discuss and hopefully persuade some to vote Dem. These GOP follows and their followers are not persuadable…mostly just an extension of FAUX ‘N FRIENDS. I dont need their shit poisoning my timeline. ::BLOCK IS YOUR FRIEND::

just boil the sweet potatoes, add butter, sugar, condensed milk, vanilla, a few eggs, and pour the mixture into pie shells.

Oh, ChristiMtl, no, the sweet potato pie it a little different. To me, it is a stronger taste, but oh soooooooooooooooo great a taste. Everyone I know makes it a little different. You know we all should make plans to have a feast after we reelect POB and meet up and bring the favorite dishes that we all have been wanting to try that were mentioned by our First Family during their years in the WH.

Or we could have a “First Family Elegant Favorite Dinner Evening” after the reelection using some of the favorites of our 44th POTUS. Let’s do that. My favorite pie is the ‘sweet potato pie and my mother’s Bread Pudding and Pound Cake. Oh, I miss all of that.

Have a great day , ChristiMtl. HZ

http://www.thegrio.com/politics/uppity-slur-still-haunts-african-americans.php?page=2. Wonderful short essay by Goldie Taylor on Limbaugh’s demeaning of FLOTUS and the meaning of the word “uppity”

    • 55 EDP4BHO
      November 24, 2025 at 5:26 pm

Somehow that slur, in the age of Obama, for me atleast, doesn’t have the same impact. We know from whence it comes, and why. The election of PBO has pulled the sheets off of many Americans, who now stand defiantly naked and will fight to the death to reclaim what they stole from the people whose day we supposedly celebrate, in part, this day. They have no clothes, and they are not embarrassed.
As for stank-baugh (ugh, he looks so oily), yeah, I am uppity. God made me magnificent.

      • 56 Layell Deroe (@layellderoe)
        November 24, 2025 at 6:39 pm

That slur actually hits me harder in the ‘age of Obama’. It’s yet another one of the many reminders that blatant unrepentant racism is still around. In some ways I think it is actually more on the surface than it was a decade ago. There are folks who feel they can use politics and President Obama as an excuse for it.

        And it still burns.

O.K., I’m off to Thanksgiving dinner! Chips, Everyone, please enjoy your night!

Thanks Tracy for that compelling essay from Goldie Taylor..it was actually quite poignant. Words do matter and she has a way of healing all that ugliness with her finely woven piece of the history which is incredible that people can be so arrogantly stupid to others who aren’t like them.

Done desertflower. Put on Twitter as well. Much thanks to our First Lady and our lovely Dr. Jill Biden. They are the best.

I hope your day will be so lovely. It is very overcast here in Cali in my area. Cool for a lilght sweater. But I love it because the candles glow so beautifully and I can think of my family here.

Enjoy, desertflower. I tried the numbers for your school, but the voice said that the numbers were incorrect. Maybe I am doing it wrong. Let me know. I love what you are doing at your school. I also did the Performing Arts and it was always difficult to get the school to invest in a decent Sound System. My co-worker and I went to the Supt. who was very interested in the Arts, and she helped us. Then finally we got enough of Board Members to help. Finally got one, but I had to put in a large portion along with my co-partner to finally get the best one. I hope it will work for the beautiful children. A great Sound System is a must. Let me know.

So glad that you understand the need for a good sound system for these kids…really frustrating to watch them and not be able to hear them very well….they work SO hard! And the arts are such an important part of a well rounded education.

Was sprinkling a bit in Phoenix, but it looks as though the sun is trying to peek out. A beautiful, relaxing day…off to make the mashed potatoes and check the turkey….will check back in from time to time…Hugs!

Thanks for sharing this desertflower. What an inspiration. It is one of the best feelings to serve others. That breakfast was so wonderful this morning. The people just make you cry all the way home after you serve. They have such a thankful smile on their faces as they come through the line. It was very early, but they also serve the second meal in the afternoon.. And the way they look at the food, just makes you want to break down and weep right there. Always is my brightest times on Thanksgiving. We have to reelect POB. So many are in need, and so many have moved up to the call and are serving. It is so wonderful!!

Gabby and Mark are what I speak of when we talk about ‘the goodness in our spirits’. We give thanks for Gabby and Mark. Blessings to their home from our TOD family here. HZ

I did some updating to this blog post I wrote in May about how the Obama Administration has been very carefully following the Democratic Platform laid out at the 2008 DNC convention. http://otrainofthought.wordpress.com/2011/05/15/12/ This is a document written by and for Americans. It’s been instructive to me to revisit this platform and add more ways our President and his Administration have been accomplishing the tasks set forth. More importantly, it made me wonder what the 2012 Platform might look like given how dramatically the local and world scenes have changed in the last three years.

I hope everyone here who is an American is allowed to participate in the process of creating this Platform for 2012. It starts at the caucuses and other gatherings meant to elect delegates. Get involved; have a voice.

I think that is a great idea! I have been helping a friend of mine this year who has had long term unemployment due to medical issues and just well enough to get back to work. She works so hard and she loves her kids more than anything; it is so hard right now.
So, I just decided that it was better to give my contributions directly to a person I know needs it; I give her as much as I can and make that my charitable contributions until she can get back on her feet.

Thank you so much CFMN. That is one of the best things you can do for a person. You are a good friend. From my own long-term unemployment experience I know that often even when you are in dire need, it’s hard to even ask people. I had 2 good friends that did for me exactly what you are doing for your friend. They saved me and my family on so many occasions. I plan to pay this back forward in any way I can when I am solidly back on my feet. I have been employed for 2 months now, still struggling, but I am breathing much easier these days.

Africatimes2, hold on, okay. I know you must miss your mother so very much. Remember to bring up the memories that will give you the strength that you need for each moment that you miss her so. It is like seeing and speaking with her at the same time. I still do that and it has been seven years this Sept.

I think of the funny things she said to me. The ways she looked at me. How I leaned in to sing her special hymns that she so loved. I even choose her favorite color and place it around in special places of my home to keep her spirit there with me when it gets too much.

I take her photo and just hold it and cry and remember how she sacrified so much to get me through school.

I read her favorites from scripture to help me get through the day or moments.

I look at her handwriting at times and smile. She was a southpaw. I also have some of her signature hand written recipes that I cherish and try to cook just to bring our spirits together.

I play my piano because she played and made sure that I had piano lessons. Plus the music is a healing for us as well.

Do not try to miss her. Bring her into you spirit and just polish that sweetness of her love in your spirit with your beautiful tears.

Just be you. You will miss her until the day you leave this earth, but just find your ways to move with it when you need to. It is okay to miss her, okay. Sending your big hugs. Lots of love to you and your family. HZ

It sounds like everyone was having a wonderful Thanksgiving. God Bless Chips and the TOD family of friends here. Has anyone heard from Sue in Minnesota lately? Do you know how she is getting along? It’s been awhile since she posted. Just wondering.

Hi Roberta, hope you are enjoying your Thanksgiving! Sue in M peeked in on the “Rock Solid” thread at the start of this week -

“#113 Sue in Minnesota November 21, 2025 at 2:31 am

Hi Chi…..thank you for your kind thoughts, I am doing really well physically, my stamina is back and my headaches are now the exception rather than the rule. My computer was on the fritz… I had to have the hard drive replaced….fortunately they got the work done in 10 days not three weeks as they had originally suggested. Being seriously addicted I worried about withdrawal, I was worried I might ‘chew my fingers off’ in frustration. I tried to keep my mind off what I knew I was missing….art projects and reading helped me to maintain a sense of calm. ………”

Got my husband one at target…46 inch…same price….we saved, had a gift card and used their “Red Card” and got a discount with that. I still love my old TV…still works fine…It was a gift when my 21 year old was born. Just really heavy though.

Ladyhawke…If you check in here, I have to say, that I was just over at Benen’s site and saw the quote that you left there from, The Little Prince. One of my ALL TIME favorite books! Timeless….I first heard that book in grade school. Our teacher read it to us…and her voice was soft and smooth. I remember being just mesmerized by the story, and her reading of that story. Since then, I have read it on my own…many times…and I always think of that day…listening to her voice, and the first magical time I heard the story of The Little Prince. Thanks for that memory again.

yes df, isn’t The Little Prince an absolutely enchanting story. I can just imagine how wonderful it was to have your teacher read it to you and your classmates. And don’t get me started with the beautiful illustrations. I have never forgotten the wisdom of that quote I posted yesterday. It’s a good point to keep in mind as we navigate the turbulent times we live in.

Yes, they are terrible and shameful spirits to speak the bitterness about the First Lady. I just wonder if they took the time to call some of our military on this Thanksgiving.

It is on them. We do not have their powerful daily forum, but we will continue to pray for their souls and minds to be changed for the better, and it not, their work and their souls will perish from this earth as works of evil. And that is the shame.HZ

“A Texas court’s newly released congressional redistricting map is a major victory for Democrats and Latinos who had protested a GOP-drawn map that squeezed both groups.

The new map will likely give Democrats 13 House seats in the state, up from the nine seats they currently hold. It is also an improvement from the 10 likely seats Democrats would have gotten from the districts into which the Republican map had packed their constituents.

Republicans currently hold 23 state legislature seats, and with the new map will likely hold the same number.

Suddenly, Russia is saber rattling with the US. Medvedev is losing it over the missle shield! This came, after the Chinese met with Russian officials about American military in Austrailia.
So, with that meeting(whatever was said), Medvedev says that if the US does not comply that it will takeout US missle sites.

WTF? Really! Isn’t he over reacting?

Huge overreaction. 250 troops, with an increase to 2500 troops over a few years. It’s pushback over the results of the Asia trip. The Chinese got bushwhacked last week and are trying to save face, I should imagine. Not exactly a position of strength if you have to go whine to the Russians to do your dirty work for you.

They want to eventually spread out their trade opportunities in every direction.
Whereby, China would practically run countries that were weak without their help!
So, they had meeting with Russia who thought it too would be doing whatever they wanted.
Posturing during a recession is dsngerous!

COLUMBUS — The Ohio Democratic Party and Organizing for America turned in another 166,481 petition signatures on Tuesday to qualify for the November 2012 ballot for a voter referendum on House Bill 194, an elections reform package backed by Republicans.

It was the second wave – they already submitted 333,063, of which 221,572 were deemed valid. To make the ballot, they need 231,150 valid voter signatures.

If the issue makes the ballot, the law will be put on hold until voters have their say.

If enacted, House Bill 194 would shorten the window for early voting in person and absentee from 35 days to 17 days, eliminate early voting on Saturday afternoons and Sundays and remove a requirement that poll workers redirect voters to the correct precinct. Currently, voters who forget to bring identification to the polls must cast a provisional ballot and then have 10 days to show their ID. House Bill 194 would require them to return the same day with ID.

Electricity from the wind, sun, waves and biomass attracted $187 billion last year compared with $157 billion for natural gas, oil and coal, according to calculations by Bloomberg New Energy Finance using the most recent data. Accelerating installations of solar and wind power led to lower equipment prices, making clean energy more competitive with coal.
“The progress of renewables has been nothing short of remarkable,” United Nations Environment Program Executive Secretary Achim Steiner said in an interview. “You have record investment in the midst of an economic and financial crisis.”
The findings indicate the world is shifting toward consuming more renewable energy even without a global agreement on limiting greenhouse gases. Delegates from more than 190 nations converge in Durban, South Africa, on Nov. 28 to discuss new measures for limiting emissions damaging the climate.

Black Friday madness is in the air. A friend of ours said he was just mobbed and attacked in Walmart over the mini choppers and walfflemakers! Some woman in LA brought pepper spray to Walmart and sprayed people away from the products she wanted. Stay safe everyone-it’s brutal out there. Today’s a good day to take a walk in the park or read the book you’ve been saving. If you need to shop, go on line.
