Looks good! I would like it even better if they had people like Tom Vilsack, Gov. O’Malley, and the Mayor of Minneapolis Rybak — they’re all quick on their feet, ruthless on republicans, and know how to shoot down teabagger talking points. I’m impressed any time I see them on t.v.

Morning everyone, and thanks for this piece, dotster. Seems pretty cut and dry….I DID get offended by what the aide from Boner’s office said about jobs. Is he kidding me? Will be curious to see what “We Can’t Wait” initiatives happen this year…I think the reason that he can take a little bit of a wait and see, attitude, and not have to depend on this dysfunctional congress to get anything done, is because the programs that he HAS put in place…will all be working to his advantage….throughout the year, regardless of WHAT they do. Smart man. Anyway, thank you for this…It seems that maybe the hometown newspaper does a more in depth piece, which is good. A newspaper here, would have cut that to 4 paragraphs
It is awesome that President Obama put through those initiatives when he did because he can now get to the business of being reelected. I don’t mean this in a negative way. If there is a moment where he can get something done, I know that he will take it. In fact, I bet he has something planned to throw both the Republicans and the Republican campaign off guard.

Yeah. Now if only more states would do this, and the law that was introduced by a Democrat (can’t think of his name, is it Dick Durbin?) would only go through. We not only need to re-elect PBO, but we need to have huge majorities in the House and Senate to pass this law overturning Citizens United! Then we need 2 GOP judges to resign/retire, and appoint justices who look at the law and the constitution instead of hobnobbing with the Koch brothers, and our country will go back to being fair and just to all Americans.
Happy New Year! We’re in for some incredible times in the next year. We’ll swing from highs to lows as the year goes on, sometimes happy, sometimes angry, sometimes exhausted, sometimes discouraged and sometimes even ecstatic. Our feet will hurt from walking our turfs, our voices will become hoarse from telephoning, our tempers will flare, our patience will wear thin and we’ll knock ourselves out from laughing at foibles. But we’ll have each other and what I believe will be an ever growing circle of devoted Obama supporters. Thanks to the troll blocking, fact finding, cheer inducing efforts of Chips, we’ll come back to this safe place after the trials of the day, find our much needed release from stress and thank God for this haven. So I want to end this year by saying thank you to Chips for all those heroic efforts to keep this site safe and find just the right perspectives to make our days and to all the good friends and soul mates who make this site a home for all of us. 2012 is going to be a year that goes down in history as a turning point because nothing less than the future of our country rests on what we do in the coming months. What a great year it has been in TODville despite the recalcitrance of the GOPers. In fact, though their behaviour was always annoying it sure helped to draw us closer together. So much more progress would have been made for Americans if only the Right had a conscience, yet we now have a tried and tested (though not yet perfect) army heading towards the final confrontation. IMO the taste of victory is a sweet one.

It’s been a rough year for America and Americans, particularly for American women, but also for minorities, immigrants, the environment and for the U.S. Constitution. On March 14, 2025 we first published a list of thirty pieces of Republican legislation “that Republicans are using to destroy America” and called it “The Dirty Thirty.” That original list has been updated several times and grown significantly although the list is incomplete, given there have been a thousand bills alone restricting a woman’s right to abortion. If most of the laws directed toward Women’s Reproductive Rights seem petty and punitive, well…they are.

I’ve seen him a lot—NBC correspondent, started in sports. Didn’t know he was a Mitt fan. Don’t know why he is a Mitt fan. Maybe he agrees that corporations are people too! Thought he was smarter than that.
Iowa Republicans are just days away from kicking off the presidential nominating contest, and Republicans ought to hope the primary ends sooner rather than later.
The GOP’s ultimate goal, of course, is to make Barack Obama a one-term president, but as 2011 draws to a close there are signs the volatile primary has done more to damage the party for the general election than help it.
The year has been defined largely by the lack of enthusiasm most Republicans have for frontrunner Mitt Romney and serious shortcomings in other leading candidates to replace the president. Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich have all surged to the top only to be dragged down by doubts about their fitness for the nomination.
Watching these so-called democratic pundits root for Ron Paul is very interesting in that they can’t talk their way pass Paul’s racist newsletters. His supporters can crow all they want to about Paul’s fight for civil liberties, but you can’t praise Paul on one hand and totally forget about his racist views on the other hand.
They are not rooting for Ron Paul - they are rooting for Romney, so they are trying get Ron Paul to top Perry and/or Gingrich in Iowa to make it easier for Romney to win the GOP nomination. For now they pretend to be okay with Paul. If Paul actually begins to be a real threat to Romney’s chance of winning the GOP nomination, watch those same pundits go after him like you’ve never seen.
I don’t get the infatuation of those left pundits with Ron Paul. They may like his anti-empire stance and his rhetoric on civil liberties, but what about EVERYTHING ELSE?
This is a guy who doesn’t believe there should be regulations on the environment, and that the better way to confront abuses is for the citizens to file lawsuits !!! This is a guy who believes that it’s “the market” that can solve all the problems with health care (and if I’m not mistaken he doesn’t even believe that having access to good healthcare is a fundamental right…) This is a guy who believes that if a woman is harrassed at work, the solution for her is to quit her job and find a better environment!!! And I could go on and on with a million examples of the absurdity of what Ron Paul preaches.
There needs to be a very strong push back against this romanticism about the libertarian philosophy. If we go beyond the supposed nobility of individual liberty as the one and only value, we see that it leads to a society where it’s every man for himself. We see that it leads to a society where the vast majority of people lose more and more tools to battle their enslavement by the tiny few who have power and money.
Ron Paul’s infamous newsletters certainly have to be used to discredit him. But the problem with Ron Paul is much larger than that. I’m confident that if the practical implications of his philosophy are discussed in the social media, people tempted to support him will wise up.
Right!!!! Just look at the number of departments RP wants to cut in the government. It is the old federal or states rights issues argument. Our states would be more like the old European Countries before the EU in that each would be run separately with no binding together into one political entity. That is why I am surprised when they use the states rights argument and use the we don’t want to be like Europe argument in the same breath.
I agree with you. I am also confused by self-confessed “liberals” would support a libertarian who is racist and who wants to get rid of the federal government when true liberals believe that government can be a good thing for a country especially in supporting those who cannot support themselves for whatever the reason. Ron Paul has NO compassion at all, contrary to the teachings of the gospel of Jesus, contrary to Catholic policy, and contrary to most liberal idealogues who believe it is important to help our fellow man. So why should these idiots support Ron Paul, I don’t get it. I’ve heard Rachel Maddow describe herself as a liberal on TV, Chris Hayes, too. It’s disappointing.

I believe that 8% statement was made when the administration experts were gearing up with the stimulus using the information the GW Bush administration gave them. There has been almost zero Obama reporting while he’s been in Hawaii—-the least of any trip—-which is likely just fine with the Obama family. I guess the timing of the Ia. caucuses this time and all the breathless reporting by the breathless reporters directed there can explain that. All we have is sarcastic tweets from Knoller about how long a golf match lasts. He does the same when football runs into 60 Minutes time slot. Knoller hates sports, which is evident.
As long as President Obama and his family is doing alright, as long as they are enjoying their vacation, relaxing, I don’t care if the sorry media isn’t bothering them. Let them have some peace.

My oh My, I am SO grateful to have come across this site when I did!! I cannot express how fortunate I am to have such wonderful people from TOD as friends on here from all over the World. It’s kinda strange, because I pretty much lost everything to an earthquake and I’ve let go of friends & family members that were holding me back or taking advantage of my loyalty……… through it all, I always sought solace by coming to this site lol It always brings me at peace away from the stress of work, remaining relatives, a relationship and studying hehehe
I wanted to acknowledge the ‘encouraging messages’ from many in our TOD family that are usually for the “Lurkers” Those words of encouragement, were the reasons I started posting. After many weeks of checking out this site, I was cautious on whether to post because I thought “…well, maybe my voice/posts wont be looked at equally the same as others or as important, because I live an ocean away. So what I say is probably irrelevant?!….” lol But that all changed when I saw those invites from TOD folks to post up and participate! Now look at me?! I hope more of those ‘Lurking’ are encouraged to post up in the 2012 New Year, and make more/new friends, especially with those of us who live in other parts of the World I am always keen to learn more about other peoples way of life and learning new languages.. I remember the first time that I ever posted on a blog and how intimidating it was, but once I started, I never looked back. It’s addictive. I love seeing new voices pipe up online, and offer their opinions - especially the lurkers on TOD. We all end up saying things we wish we could pull back, or having a freak out and going negative and wild, or even posting with a bunch of spelling mistakes - heaven knows I’ve done all of the above! But, this site is a safe haven, and even though there are bust ups every once in a while, everyone always hugs it out and carries on with the mission.
Chipsticks is a Godsend - she’s saved many people’s sanity with this blog, and I think that’s why I personally am so looking forward to this coming year. I know there is somewhere to go when things get crazy next year, that will be a refuge from the crazy, and a place to refuel before going back out to battle. I’m looking forward to the celebration we’ll all be having next year, and all the good times in between. Happy New Year everyone!

I saw today that Romney made a comment about President Obama in Hawaii with his family golfing and in the sun while he is in the cold fighting for America. Romney is desperate - and he is advertising his desperation by making unprofessional comments about the President’s vacation, and by having his son engage in birtherism.
He’s not leading in the general presidential poll in Nov 2012 - which is the one he’s most concerned with. I don’t care what the the MSNBC pundits or general MSM say. They know fully well that once PBO starts a full on campaign, Romney will be toast. Which is why they are resorting to desperate tactics of trying to manipulate voters - the media is tacitly campaigning for Romney by pushing anti-Obama propaganda 90% of the time, while giving Romney a pass. Romney is desperate. He knows that it will be the end of his political career if he gets beaten in 2012. He knows that he will be extremely and thoroughly humiliated by that loss - probably even worse than McCain.
Willard M. Romney forgets that President Barack Obama is the President of the United States and he can soak up as much sun in Hawaii on his vacation as he likes. He can play golf, take care of his family, enjoy his friends, and just relax.
Plus, we know for sure that President Barack Obama is also taking care of the business of the American people while he is trying to enjoy his family and friends on his vacation.

SueBee, I do the same thing. Whenever my GOP reps in Congress vote for a stupid bill I write or call and tell them I donated to Obama. It’s a small amount each time, but it definitely adds up!! Wish there was some way to tell GOP hopefuls, reporters, PL the same thing. Maybe via Twitter. it always feels good to me to do that.

Perhaps the GOP presidential candidates have realized what two new polls are showing: Americans are tired of Washington coddling the richest among us while the middle class continues to suffer.
A new CNN poll found that by a 50 percent to 31 percent margin, people say they have more confidence in President Obama than in congressional Republicans–who have been holding the payroll tax cut hostage–to handle the major issues facing the country. That’s a 5-point jump from last month. In his analysis of the poll, CNN’s polling director attributed this increase to “dramatic gains among middle-income Americans” for President Obama and surmised that the payroll-tax-cut debate had given Obama the boost.
Yep Mitt Romney, you’ve been exposed, or your son has unwittingly exposed your campaign strategy or lack of a campaign strategy. See Mittens, if you had a credible strategy against President Obama to begin with, your son would not have had to play the “birther card.” Moreover Mitts, if your opening move is to play the “Patriotism card,” well then that tells me President Obama is on his way to getting reelected.
Personally I don’t think that was planned. I saw the video and the son was just stumbling around. If it was rehearsed it sure was good acting. He was trying to deflect the question about tax returns. His answer didn’t actually make any sense and it didn’t seem to satisfy the person asking the question. Either way Mitt and Matt and his other Mutts in waiting are going to get crucified on this tax return thing. He’s going to have to reveal his tax returns and Independents are not going to be impressed with Romney’s low level of taxes paid. (And the tax exemptions for the other 4 wives. Kidding!)

Look at that picture of Mitt and his BAIN buddies and tell me that isn’t Wall Street up and down. Now he’s trying to change his image with the jeans and plade shirt, but inside he is still the rich bastard who think he is better than the poor and middle class. Mitt made some comment about Obama being in Hawaii, why he is out in the cold and rain showing that he cares for America. What a liar Mitt is. He is out there because he wants to be President, he don’t give a dam about the people , this is all about Mitt Romney.

As for the African-American republican: Well, these days there is no dignity or self-respect associated with that affiliation. Why we would want to consort with a party that doesn’t even bother to disguise its disdain for African-Americans, Hispanics, women, the middle class, the poor is beyond me. Ron Christie and Michael Steele give me hives, and Herman Cain was a discredit to my sons’ Alma Mater, Morehouse College.
Anyway, I am ready to start working! We must win this election. Like someone already said, It is not about PBO, it’s about the rest of us!

The White House believes GOP lawmakers boxed themselves in during the pre-Christmas debate on the tax break and will be hard-pressed to back off their own assertions that it should continue through the end of 2012.
Once that debate is over, the White House says, Obama’s political fate will no longer be tied to Washington.
“Now that he’s sort of free from having to put out these fires, the president will have a larger playing field. If that includes Congress, all the better,” said Josh Earnest, White House deputy press secretary. But, he added, “that’s no longer a requirement.”

I agree with you forus50, my point was that there was no reason for lil mitt to make a statement about President Obama’s birth certificate. I would have more respect for young master mitt if he would have attacked the President over his stances on Taxes or Iran’s posturing at the Strait of Hormuz. But no, lil mitt when straight to the birther issue.

No, no party! A friend emailed me an invitation to a choir festival which I thought was in town, and isn’t. NASHUA, N.H. — A surging Mitt Romney unleashed a blistering attack on President Obama yesterday as the Republican presidential hopeful prepared to barnstorm Iowa, saying the Democrat is in over his head, has poisoned politics and will go down as nothing more than a footnote in history.
Romney is tipping his hand of how he’s going to run - Pres. Obama poisoned politics and point to the deadlock in Washington, whereas Romney will run on working together with Democrats in Massachusetts and point to bills he wouldn’t personally have supported but understood he was in a liberal state.
This will allow GOP Congressional candidates to also run blaming Obama but saying that they’ll be willing to work with Pres. Romney and Dems again if Obama is defeated.
How does this square with the ” Our one goal is to make President Obama a one term President” and the unprecedented filibusters in the Senate?
It’s a good thing he is in over his head because instead of the long list of things all these Teapug idiots keep saying they would repeal on Day 1 (though that is not even possible procedurally) they would have thousands to repeal on days 1-…..
The only thing that needs to be scotched, in my view, is this notion that without PBO all will be peace and harmony.
Just think back to former Pres Clinton and the gov’t shut down and how they treated former Pres Carter. They only time Congressional Republicans co-operate is when there is a Republican President. The short attention span American public needs to be reminded of this over and over again.
They also need to be made aware of and reminded of the havoc caused by the present crop of Republican Governors because this is the template for everywhere (and worse re Iran, the Supreme Court and reproductive rights, Medicare and SS) if Romney or any other Republican wins.
I think the GOP Governors tactics when coming into office as a comeback on the getting along better argument might be a good one. All along I have been thinking we will need some sort of comeback on why we need to keep PBO as opposed to the working together better without him theme.
I have always thought the It takes two to tango and the GOP does not want to dance might work. I liked the Don’t give the party the keys back that ran the car into the ditch in the ’10 election but it did not work. I feel a little like Would you buy the toddler that threw the tantrum (the Congressional obstructionists GOP) the candy they wanted (office of the President) to get them to quit throwing the tantrum? But then I think of all of the disfunctional families and maybe that is what they do and the root of the problem.
I do think there must be some snappy comeback to Mitt’s accusations we can think of and send to the re-election team.
Romney can try whatever “clever” tactic he thinks will work. None of them will work. The majority of voters already KNOW that the source of the Washington deadlock is NOT President Obama. Romney is the last person to talk about “poison” when he has an adult son pandering to the most vile fringes of society - the birthers.

You forgot ‘blackmailers’! Why would voters reward them for deciding they will not work with someone the majority has elected? So voters choose and GOPers try to nullify the choice. Any point to democratic elections then?

Well then, we should be ready to show all the components of President Obama’s bills that were previously supported by GOP in prior years, and how they voted against them to fulfill their wish of making PBO a “one term President”, a la Bachmann and Mitch McConnell. And then we can question whether Romney is saying he’s a closet moderate, and plans to go way over to the left once he’s President, or if he’ll fulfill the right wing dreams of stomping Dems and going full Conservative, like they think he will.
There is no argument they can come up with that they haven’t already provided us ammunition to fight. The only true thing about them is that they hate the President because he’s black - and there’s no fixing racism.

Hey PJ, I had basically similar results: #1 PBO 10/11 issues; #2 Jon Huntsman 2/11 issues; and #3 Rick Perry 1/11 issues. Did you find out which issues we sided with these Republicans? I don’t mind Huntsman that much, but I am just not sure that there is any issue on which I agree with Perry. May be it was on immigration because he supported educating children of immigrants. I am still dying to find out the one issue that the President and I disagreed on.

WASHINGTON — Indiana officials delivered an end-of-year surprise to state residents on Friday, announcing a limit on the number of people who can be inside the statehouse at any one time. Democratic and labor leaders swiftly condemned the move as an attempt to quash dissent and reduce the size of public protests.
Effective Jan. 1, only 3,000 people will be allowed inside the building at one time. That number includes the 1,700 state employees who work there, meaning that just over 1,000 others will be able to assemble on a given day.
The rule was drafted by the Indiana State Police, the state’s homeland security department and the state fire marshal’s office. Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) appointed the heads of all those offices.

Oh, by the way, I see this as a long term investment! Come New Year’s eve, 2012, I will be partying with abandon waiting for PBO’s second inaugural! Just imagine, If a million of us Obama grassroots supporters gave $5 a month to OFA, for the next ten months, that would amount to $50 millions. We may not be able to match, dollar for dollar, the contributions of billionaires like the Koch brothers. But $50 million dollars is not champ change. With Over 500K Signatures Already Collected, Recall of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker Appears Inevitable

A recall of controversial Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker now appear inevitable. In just 28 days, activists collected 507,533 signatures. Organizers have until January 17 to collect 540,208 signatures, which is equal to 25% of the state’s 2010 general election turnout. To be safe, recall advocates have set a new goal of 720,277 signatures by the deadline.
I must say this is great news. Seemingly not in the conversations in the MSM, are those that concern the anger of people towards Republican legislators. Think of Florida, Wisconsin, New Jersey,Ohio….the list is endless. People get this…they understand that the RW is trying VERY HARD to make them invisible and to take their rights away. This has been ignored. OWS…as some here may like to discount it, I don’t. Those people see the income disparity. Does ANYONE think that this will play into a Republicans hands? Mitt’s hands? HE’S GOING TO HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM if he’s the nominee. HUGE! Just my take on this….so when polls ask: Is the country going in the right direction….and they say “No” I don’t think that’s necessarily bad for PBO…I think that people are answering that question based on the DO NOTHING CONGRESS…and want things to GET DONE! Anyone else feel this way?
What’s also getting pushed under the rug and ignored now by the MSM, are all the monumental accomplishments of this administration over the last 3 years. THEY won’t bring them up to refresh everyone’s 30 second timeframe for brain function….but PBO will…..and I guarantee, that as more and more people think about it, they will shake the cobwebs off their brains, and realize what just happened…in a good way. This is an historic time we live in….the election of 2012 will be, in my mind, and even more important one than the last…and will have more far reaching capabilities than the last.
Get ready for a battle of epic proportions…because we all have to do battle on multiple fronts.But I believe that truth will win over lies, that the people will understand the stakes, and that we will finish what we started. They had 507K on Dec 15th so I’d suspect they’d be over the 540, 208 threshold now, but still a ways off their 720K goal. I don’t think they’ll release another count total until deadline day or they reach 720K, because if they released saying they simply passed the 540, 208 goalline it would make folks less likely to still sign.

In 2008, i was active on OFA blog pushing back against the lies and helping with the fundraising efforts.
However in 2012, I can’t stay on the sidelines. I have 3 weeks off next year and would like to use them as a foot soldier for the campaign in anyway they see fit.
I’m not a US citizen and have a French accent but I’m sure an extra helping hand wouldn’t be refused by OFA. Please let me know how I can apply to travel where and when my help is needed.
This is not only about the president reelection, this about us, citizens of the world. What happens in your country affects us all. the GOP is a madhouse run by madmen. We cannot let them win the presidency, the house, the senate or any state or local majority. They showed us their true colors in 2010. We have no excuses now to sit back and wait. We now know the dark forces behind them. We’re fighting for democracy, no less!
With all that said, I’m very hopeful for us and our president (yes he’s mine too but I believe in the power of action as well as emotion.
In 2011, the Arab spring showed us that a united front of fed up regular citizens can topple dictatorships. In 2012, the American people have no choice but to also stand against attacks on their rights and threats to democracy as we know it.

I heard something on the news yesterday about justices in WI courts siding with Scott and GOP and not letting Dems there do something in relation to the recall. I missed the gist of it but thought it sounded like something unexpectedly bad. Anyone hear anything that this might be?

I think this is going to be a year of praise and celebration. I think God is holding President Obama and his family-His hand is upon them. I think we are going to work hard and be strengthened and uplifted. I thank God that he has provided such a man as this to guide our country. I thank God for Chipsticks, Donna Dem and every other person who is working to keep our President in office. We will lift each other up and we will neither falter nor fail. President Obama is doing the Lord’s work, taking care of ‘the least of these’, believing that there are opportunities for everyone, and treating all with respect despite the disrespect that is shown him. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hatred cannot drive out hatred, only love can do that.” This will be a year of praise and celebration and victory.

Morning everyone, and thanks for this piece, dotster. Seems pretty cut and dry….I DID get offended by what the aide from Boner’s office said about jobs. Is he kidding me? Will be curious to see what “We Can’t Wait” initiatives happen this year…I think the reason that he can take a little bit of a wait and see, attitude, and not have to depend on this dysfunctional congress to get anything done, is because the programs that he HAS put in place…will all be working to his advantage….throughout the year, regardless of WHAT they do. Smart man. Anyway, thank you for this…It seems that maybe the hometown newspaper does a more in depth piece, which is good. A newspaper here, would have cut that to 4 paragraphs
It is awesome that President Obama put through those initiatives when he did because he can now get to the business of being reelected. I don’t mean this in a negative way. If there is a moment where he can get something done, I know that he will take it. In fact, I bet he has something planned to throw both the Republicans and the Republican campaign off guard.

Yeah. Now if only more states would do this, and the law that was introduced by a Democrat (can’t think of his name, is it Dick Durbin?) would only go through. We not only need to re-elect PBO, but we need to have huge majorities in the House and Senate to pass this law overturning Citizens United! Then we need 2 GOP judges to resign/retire, and appoint justices who look at the law and the constitution instead of hobnobbing with the Koch brothers, and our country will go back to being fair and just to all Americans.

Happy New Year! We’re in for some incredible times in the next year. We’ll swing from highs to lows as the year goes on, sometimes happy, sometimes angry, sometimes exhausted, sometimes discouraged and sometimes even ecstatic. Our feet will hurt from walking our turfs, our voices will become hoarse from telephoning, our tempers will flare, our patience will wear thin and we’ll knock ourselves out from laughing at foibles. But we’ll have each other and what I believe will be an ever growing circle of devoted Obama supporters. Thanks to the troll blocking, fact finding, cheer inducing efforts of Chips, we’ll come back to this safe place after the trials of the day, find our much needed release from stress and thank God for this haven. So I want to end this year by saying thank you to Chips for all those heroic efforts to keep this site safe and find just the right perspectives to make our days and to all the good friends and soul mates who make this site a home for all of us. 2012 is going to be a year that goes down in history as a turning point because nothing less than the future of our country rests on what we do in the coming months. Watching these so-called democratic pundits root for Ron Paul is very interesting in that they can’t talk their way pass Paul’s racist newsletters. His supporters can crow all they want to about Paul’s fight for civil liberties, but you can’t praise Paul on one hand and totally forget about his racist views on the other hand.
Gary Johnson has asked his supporters to vote for RP in the Iowa caucus.
They are not rooting for Ron Paul - they are rooting for Romney, so they are trying get Ron Paul to top Perry and/or Gingrich in Iowa to make it easier for Romney to win the GOP nomination. For now they pretend to be okay with Paul. If Paul actually begins to be a real threat to Romney’s chance of winning the GOP nomination, watch those same pundits go after him like you’ve never seen.

I don’t get the infatuation of those left pundits with Ron Paul. They may like his anti-empire stance and his rhetoric on civil liberties, but what about EVERYTHING ELSE?
This is a guy who doesn’t believe there should be regulations on the environment, and that the better way to confront abuses is for the citizens to file lawsuits !!! This is a guy who believes that it’s “the market” that can solve all the problems with health care (and if I’m not mistaken he doesn’t even believe that having access to good healthcare is a fundamental right…) This is a guy who believes that if a woman is harrassed at work, the solution for her is to quit her job and find a better environment!!! And I could go on and on with a million examples of the absurdity of what Ron Paul preaches.
There needs to be a very strong push back against this romanticism about the libertarian philosophy. If we go beyond the supposed nobility of individual liberty as the one and only value, we see that it leads to a society where it’s every man for himself. We see that it leads to a society where the vast majority of people lose more and more tools to battle their enslavement by the tiny few who have power and money.
Ron Paul’s infamous newsletters certainly have to be used to discredit him. But the problem with Ron Paul is much larger than that. I’m confident that if the practical implications of his philosophy are discussed in the social media, people tempted to support him will wise up.
Right!!!! Just look at the number of departments RP wants to cut in the government. It is the old federal or states rights issues argument. Our states would be more like the old European Countries before the EU in that each would be run separately with no binding together into one political entity. That is why I am surprised when they use the states rights argument and use the we don’t want to be like Europe argument in the same breath.

I am also confused by self-confessed “liberals” would support a libertarian who is racist and who wants to get rid of the federal government when true liberals believe that government can be a good thing for a country especially in supporting those who cannot support themselves for whatever the reason. Ron Paul has NO compassion at all, contrary to the teachings of the gospel of Jesus, contrary to Catholic policy, and contrary to most liberal idealogues who believe it is important to help our fellow man. My oh My, I am SO grateful to have come across this site when I did!! I cannot express how fortunate I am to have such wonderful people from TOD as friends on here from all over the World. It’s kinda strange, because I pretty much lost everything to an earthquake and I’ve let go of friends & family members that were holding me back or taking advantage of my loyalty……… through it all, I always sought solace by coming to this site lol It always brings me at peace away from the stress of work, remaining relatives, a relationship and studying hehehe

Those words of encouragement, were the reasons I started posting. After many weeks of checking out this site, I was cautious on whether to post because I thought “…well, maybe my voice/posts wont be looked at equally the same as others or as important, because I live an ocean away. So what I say is probably irrelevant?!….” lol But that all changed when I saw those invites from TOD folks to post up and participate! Now look at me?!

I remember the first time that I ever posted on a blog and how intimidating it was, but once I started, I never looked back. It’s addictive. I love seeing new voices pipe up online, and offer their opinions - especially the lurkers on TOD. We all end up saying things we wish we could pull back, or having a freak out and going negative and wild, or even posting with a bunch of spelling mistakes - heaven knows I’ve done all of the above! But, this site is a safe haven, and even though there are bust ups every once in a while, everyone always hugs it out and carries on with the mission.
Chipsticks is a Godsend - she’s saved many people’s sanity with this blog, and I think that’s why I personally am so looking forward to this coming year. I know there is somewhere to go when things get crazy next year, that will be a refuge from the crazy, and a place to refuel before going back out to battle. I’m looking forward to the celebration we’ll all be having next year, and all the good times in between. Happy New Year everyone!

I saw today that Romney made a comment about President Obama in Hawaii with his family golfing and in the sun while he is in the cold fighting for America. He is always going after the President on a personal level…It is quite low….Romney and his family vacationed in Hawaii over Christmas just last year.
Romney is desperate - and he is advertising his desperation by making unprofessional comments about the President’s vacation, and by having his son engage in birtherism.

He’s not leading in the general presidential poll in Nov 2012 - which is the one he’s most concerned with. I don’t care what the the MSNBC pundits or general MSM say. They know fully well that once PBO starts a full on campaign, Romney will be toast. Which is why they are resorting to desperate tactics of trying to manipulate voters - the media is tacitly campaigning for Romney by pushing anti-Obama propaganda 90% of the time, while giving Romney a pass. SueBee, I do the same thing. Whenever my GOP reps in Congress vote for a stupid bill I write or call and tell them I donated to Obama. It’s a small amount each time, but it definitely adds up!! Yep Mitt Romney, you’ve been exposed, or your son has unwittingly exposed your campaign strategy or lack of a campaign strategy. See Mittens, if you had a credible strategy against President Obama to begin with, your son would not have had to play the “birther card.” Moreover Mitts, if your opening move is to play the “Patriotism card,” well then that tells me President Obama is on his way to getting reelected.
Personally I don’t think that was planned. I saw the video and the son was just stumbling around. If it was rehearsed it sure was good acting. He was trying to deflect the question about tax returns. His answer didn’t actually make any sense and it didn’t seem to satisfy the person asking the question. As for the African-American republican: Well, these days there is no dignity or self-respect associated with that affiliation. Why we would want to consort with a party that doesn’t even bother to disguise its disdain for African-Americans, Hispanics, women, the middle class, the poor is beyond me. Ron Christie and Michael Steele give me hives, and Herman Cain was a discredit to my sons’ Alma Mater, Morehouse College.

I agree with you forus50, my point was that there was no reason for lil mitt to make a statement about President Obama’s birth certificate. I would have more respect for young master mitt if he would have attacked the President over his stances on Taxes or Iran’s posturing at the Strait of Hormuz. Romney is tipping his hand of how he’s going to run - Pres. Obama poisoned politics and point to the deadlock in Washington, whereas Romney will run on working together with Democrats in Massachusetts and point to bills he wouldn’t personally have supported but understood he was in a liberal state.
This will allow GOP Congressional candidates to also run blaming Obama but saying that they’ll be willing to work with Pres. Romney and Dems again if Obama is defeated.
But his policies ate far right. While he may work with democrats on a less severe privatization of SS, that is not what people want!
How does this square with the ” Our one goal is to make President Obama a one term President” and the unprecedented filibusters in the Senate?
It’s a good thing he is in over his head because instead of the long list of things all these Teapug idiots keep saying they would repeal on Day 1 (though that is not even possible procedurally) they would have thousands to repeal on days 1-…..
The only thing that needs to be scotched, in my view, is this notion that without PBO all will be peace and harmony.
Just think back to former Pres Clinton and the gov’t shut down and how they treated former Pres Carter. They only time Congressional Republicans co-operate is when there is a Republican President. The short attention span American public needs to be reminded of this over and over again.
They also need to be made aware of and reminded of the havoc caused by the present crop of Republican Governors because this is the template for everywhere (and worse re Iran, the Supreme Court and reproductive rights, Medicare and SS) if Romney or any other Republican wins.
I think the GOP Governors tactics when coming into office as a comeback on the getting along better argument might be a good one. All along I have been thinking we will need some sort of comeback on why we need to keep PBO as opposed to the working together better without him theme.
I have always thought the It takes two to tango and the GOP does not want to dance might work. I liked the Don’t give the party the keys back that ran the car into the ditch in the ’10 election but it did not work. I feel a little like Would you buy the toddler that threw the tantrum (the Congressional obstructionists GOP) the candy they wanted (office of the President) to get them to quit throwing the tantrum? But then I think of all of the disfunctional families and maybe that is what they do and the root of the problem.
I do think there must be some snappy comeback to Mitt’s accusations we can think of and send to the re-election team.
Romney can try whatever “clever” tactic he thinks will work. None of them will work. The majority of voters already KNOW that the source of the Washington deadlock is NOT President Obama. Romney is the last person to talk about “poison” when he has an adult son pandering to the most vile fringes of society - the birthers.

And then we can question whether Romney is saying he’s a closet moderate, and plans to go way over to the left once he’s President, or if he’ll fulfill the right wing dreams of stomping Dems and going full Conservative, like they think he will.
There is no argument they can come up with that they haven’t already provided us ammunition to fight. The only true thing about them is that they hate the President because he’s black - and there’s no fixing racism.
Look at how Mitt just described himself-in over his head, poisons politics (can he even hear himself?) and will go down in history as a footnote. He has utterly projected himself onto the president. Way to go Willard.

It might be ‘fun’ for Obamabots to illustrate for our family, friends, and other contacts, with objective data, how Willard best exemplifies these points he tries to pawn off.
If he’s the nominee, the thought of driving Willard crazy with a concerted pushback on this tactic makes me smile.

TEHRAN, Iran — Iran said Saturday it has proposed a new round of talks on its nuclear program with six world powers that have been trying for years to persuade Tehran to freeze aspects of its atomic work that could provide a possible pathway to weapons production.
The country’s top nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, said he has formally called on the United States, Russia, China, Britain, France and Germany to return to negotiations.
The invitation comes after new sanctions recently imposed by the West over Tehran’s enrichment of uranium, a process that produces fuel for reactors but which can also be used in making nuclear weapons.

WASHINGTON — Indiana officials delivered an end-of-year surprise to state residents on Friday, announcing a limit on the number of people who can be inside the statehouse at any one time. Democratic and labor leaders swiftly condemned the move as an attempt to quash dissent and reduce the size of public protests.
Effective Jan. 1, only 3,000 people will be allowed inside the building at one time. That number includes the 1,700 state employees who work there, meaning that just over 1,000 others will be able to assemble on a given day.
The rule was drafted by the Indiana State Police, the state’s homeland security department and the state fire marshal’s office. Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) appointed the heads of all those offices.

Somebody should tell Willard that the person most likely to be a footnote in history is Willard (MITT) Romney! Willard should ask Joe Miller, in Alaska, how it felt, measuring curtains in D.C. before all the votes were cast, and then end up loosing. Unless, of course. Willard, Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers have a plan to steal the election.

Done! Yesterday I chipped in for both Chipsticks and Donna and I felt really good! I was so proud when our Donna won that competition. With our support, she could do it again. I also contributed in response to FLOTUS’ request. The upside is: I am going to spend this New Year’s Eve, very, very sober. All my wine money went to OFA!
Oh, by the way, I see this as a long term investment! Come New Year’s eve, 2012, I will be partying with abandon waiting for PBO’s second inaugural! Just imagine, If a million of us Obama grassroots supporters gave $5 a month to OFA, for the next ten months, that would amount to $50 millions. We may not be able to match, dollar for dollar, the contributions of billionaires like the Koch brothers. But $50 million dollars is not champ change. Actually, for me me, beginning January 2012, my New Year’s resolution is to give $20-25 until Nov. 6th!

With Over 500K Signatures Already Collected, Recall of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker Appears Inevitable

A recall of controversial Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker now appear inevitable. In just 28 days, activists collected 507,533 signatures. Organizers have until January 17 to collect 540,208 signatures, which is equal to 25% of the state’s 2010 general election turnout. To be safe, recall advocates have set a new goal of 720,277 signatures by the deadline.
I must say this is great news. Seemingly not in the conversations in the MSM, are those that concern the anger of people towards Republican legislators. Think of Florida, Wisconsin, New Jersey,Ohio….the list is endless. People get this…they understand that the RW is trying VERY HARD to make them invisible and to take their rights away. This has been ignored. OWS…as some here may like to discount it, I don’t. Those people see the income disparity. Does ANYONE think that this will play into a Republicans hands? Mitt’s hands? HE’S GOING TO HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM if he’s the nominee. HUGE! Just my take on this….so when polls ask: Is the country going in the right direction….and they say “No” I don’t think that’s necessarily bad for PBO…I think that people are answering that question based on the DO NOTHING CONGRESS…and want things to GET DONE! Anyone else feel this way?
What’s also getting pushed under the rug and ignored now by the MSM, are all the monumental accomplishments of this administration over the last 3 years. THEY won’t bring them up to refresh everyone’s 30 second timeframe for brain function….but PBO will…..and I guarantee, that as more and more people think about it, they will shake the cobwebs off their brains, and realize what just happened…in a good way. This is an historic time we live in….the election of 2012 will be, in my mind, and even more important one than the last…and will have more far reaching capabilities than the last.
Get ready for a battle of epic proportions…because we all have to do battle on multiple fronts.But I believe that truth will win over lies, that the people will understand the stakes, and that we will finish what we started. Long way to go, but we’ll get there together. We have no option. We can’t afford to lose this fight, or America will become an oligarchy, in total. Make no mistake. I can’t think of a better place to come home to, than here, with this TOD family. Recharge, reboot, re-energize, and go back to do it all again the next day!

They had 507K on Dec 15th so I’d suspect they’d be over the 540, 208 threshold now, but still a ways off their 720K goal. I don’t think they’ll release another count total until deadline day or they reach 720K, because if they released saying they simply passed the 540, 208 goalline it would make folks less likely to still sign.
C-SPAN is showing another Willard rally live with old white people. Ann Romney is speaking and shows no warmth at all. She is cringe inducing.

In 2008, i was active on OFA blog pushing back against the lies and helping with the fundraising efforts.
However in 2012, I can’t stay on the sidelines. I have 3 weeks off next year and would like to use them as a foot soldier for the campaign in anyway they see fit.
I’m not a US citizen and have a French accent but I’m sure an extra helping hand wouldn’t be refused by OFA. Please let me know how I can apply to travel where and when my help is needed.
This is not only about the president reelection, this about us, citizens of the world. What happens in your country affects us all. the GOP is a madhouse run by madmen. We cannot let them win the presidency, the house, the senate or any state or local majority. They showed us their true colors in 2010. We have no excuses now to sit back and wait. We now know the dark forces behind them. We’re fighting for democracy, no less!
With all that said, I’m very hopeful for us and our president (yes he’s mine too
but I believe in the power of action as well as emotion.
In 2011, the Arab spring showed us that a united front of fed up regular citizens can topple dictatorships. In 2012, the American people have no choice but to also stand against attacks on their rights and threats to democracy as we know it.

It seems like the whole rest of the world understands what a treasure we have in PBO and values him more than many in the US do. I don’t know what to tell you, but perhaps if you wrote to the OFA website they would have some suggestions?
I heard something on the news yesterday about justices in WI courts siding with Scott and GOP and not letting Dems there do something in relation to the recall. I missed the gist of it but thought it sounded like something unexpectedly bad. Anyone hear anything that this might be?

I think this is going to be a year of praise and celebration. I think God is holding President Obama and his family-His hand is upon them. I think we are going to work hard and be strengthened and uplifted. I thank God that he has provided such a man as this to guide our country. I thank God for Chipsticks, Donna Dem and every other person who is working to keep our President in office. We will lift each other up and we will neither falter nor fail. President Obama is doing the Lord’s work, taking care of ‘the least of these’, believing that there are opportunities for everyone, and treating all with respect despite the disrespect that is shown him. “Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that. Hatred cannot drive out hatred, only love can do that.” This will be a year of praise and celebration and victory.
