Stephen Feller: Study: Higher Number Of Americans Insured Because Of ObamaCare

****

A review of data on community health centers shows large increases in the number of people who have gained access to healthcare as a result of the Affordable Care Act, especially in underserved urban and rural areas of the United States. Researchers pin much of the credit to the expansion of Medicaid under the ACA, also referred to as ObamaCare, which has allowed people who cannot afford health insurance to have greater access to care.

They note, though, that there has also been a large increase in the number people who have purchased private insurance through the ACA-mandated state exchanges. “Our findings underscore the importance of the Affordable Care Act to the poorest Americans,” said Dr. Sara Rosenbaum, a professor of health law and policy at George Washington University, in a press release. “This report shows the importance of ensuring that the ACA’s resources reach all medically underserved communities, including those in the 20 states that have not yet expanded Medicaid.”

Thanks Dudette for sharing this. I respect Ms. Walker, but I don’t think it was her place to infer the drugs & his first wife alleged saving of Mr. Bond. It was never proven and he never admitted, so why put it in a poem?

This whole story needs to be told, not just bits and pieces.
It all began when the town refused the federal monies…
SILVERTON, Colo. (AP) — The Colorado town where a toxic mine leak earlier this month unleashed a torrent of heavy metals into Western rivers has decided to change course and request federal disaster funds to clean up the mine.

The Silverton Board of Trustees and the San Juan County Commission approved a joint resolution Monday to seek the money. It’s a reversal for local officials who long feared that designation as a federal Superfund site would harm economic development.

That decision came under fire when the partly collapsed Gold King mine ruptured Aug. 5, spewing 3 million gallons of metal-laced water. The waste entered a creek that feeds major rivers in several Western states.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency had pushed for 25 years to grant Superfund status to the Gold King mine and other idled 19th century mines leaking heavy metals above Silverton. Superfund status would have brought in major funds for a comprehensive cleanup.

Local authorities spurned federal intervention, leaving a smaller EPA-led team to investigate a small if steady stream of pollution. That team accidentally breached a debris wall at the mine, unleashing the pool of contaminated water that turned the Animas River yellow.

In the resolution adopted Monday, local officials agreed that 20 years of attempts to clean the mine waste without seeking additional federal disaster help “have not had the necessary financial resources to address every mine site with an environmental issue.”

“We recognize that this is a regional problem and that it starts in our neighborhood,” Willy Tookey, chair of the San Juan County Commission, said in a statement after the vote.

The resolution also notes that there are no active mining operations in the Upper Animas River Basin to be held financially responsible for the cleanup.

The resolution does not expressly seek Superfund designation. But the resolution leaves that option on the table.

In Washington Tuesday, congressional members investigating the spill criticized the EPA for missing a deadline to turn over some documents.

“This information matters to the many Americans directly affected in Western states, who are still waiting for answers from the EPA,” said Texas Republican Rep. Lamar Smith, who leads the House Science, Space and Technology Committee.

Need to be sure that everyone visiting TOD reads:

      http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-cirincione-iran-deal-scenarios-20150823-story.html

“The nuclear agreement with Iran is supported by almost every nation in the world. It has the backing of nearly the entire American security establishment, current and retired. It enjoys the overwhelming support of nuclear scientists and policy experts. There is no credible alternative.

And yet, with almost a month to go before the vote, lobbying against the deal is intense. No Republican senator supports the agreement. Two prominent Democratic senators, Charles Schumer and Robert Menendez, have denounced it.

If the Senate follows their lead and kills the deal, it will spell humiliation for the United States, an unconstrained Iranian nuclear program and the increased risk of a new war in the Middle East.

Here is how rejection would play out. First, our allies would desert us.”

Throughout our negotiations with Iran, we were clear-eyed about Iran’s efforts to destabilize the Middle East, and we resolved not to let the regime off the hook. In fact, from sponsoring terrorist activity to human rights abuses, Iran continues to pursue destabilizing activities in the Middle East region that the U.S. and our allies continue to monitor and address.

So why did the U.S. spend nearly two years negotiating a nuclear agreement with Iran?

It’s a fair question with an important answer: As destabilizing as Iran’s regional activities are, they would be exponentially more dangerous with a nuclear weapon. And now that we’ve taken a nuclear-armed Iran off the table, we can ratchet up the pressure on its destabilizing activities—including its support for terrorism.

We are committed to countering Iran’s actions that threaten our national security interests and those of our allies, especially Israel. Here’s how:

      Bwhahahahahahahaha!

What if you threw a party for Hispanic voters and no one came? In a real head-scratching moment, Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson went stumping for support in South Carolina and hosted a “Latino Outreach Event” at a local landscaping business. The audience of around 25 people, however, was all white — except for the company owner and his brother.

HEADS-UP! *THIS* looks both interesting and promising! There’s going to be a Worker Voice Summit in WDC, and maybe someone you know, or even you, could be there.

Summary: The White House needs your help finding workers, employers, and organizers from across the country to join the first Summit on Worker Voice on October 7.

America is at its strongest when we work together to build prosperity that all of us contribute to and share. We are our best when the working men and women who are engines of economic growth are true partners in industry and innovation, with a robust voice in their workplaces. That’s why, last week, President Obama announced his intention to host a White House Summit on Worker Voice on October 7.

Now, we need your help finding workers, employers, and organizers from across the country to join this conversation.
    …………………………………

That’s why we’re pleased to announce that we’ll be accepting nominations for people from across the country to attend the Summit in Washington, D.C. on October 7. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in the conversation with senior leaders from business, unions, and government who share their commitment to fairer, more productive, and more prosperous workplaces. And we will be counting on attendees to learn from each other too, and to take those lessons back to their communities to make even more of a difference.

***We’re looking for nominees who are making a difference for worker voice in their communities. Do you know someone who is bringing coworkers together to discuss common workplace issues, or who is inspiring workers to speak up? Do you know an employer who has taken great lengths to listen to their employees and learn what really matters to them? If so, nominate them to attend the Summit on Worker Voice.

There are limited spaces for attending the Summit at the White House, but there will be many other opportunities for joining the conversation. We’ll continue to provide updates on the blog about how you can join in.

” Rep. Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) has requested the State Department open an investigation into whether the killing of two Palestinian teenagers last year by Israeli security forces warrants withholding of military aid under the conditions of the Leahy Law.

“The murders of Nadeem Nawara and Mohammad Daher highlight a brutal system of occupation that devalues and dehumanizes Palestinian children,” she wrote in a letter to two State Department officials, referring to the teenagers who were shot and killed May 15, 2014, during a protest at the Ofer prison in the West Bank. “It is time for a strong and unequivocal statement of U.S. commitment to the human rights of Palestinian children living under Israeli occupation,” McCollum continued in the letter, which was publicly released on Monday. ”

            “25 August 2015

            by Deniz Yücel

This interview with Cemil Bayik, Kurdistan Communities’ Union (KCK) co-president, was conducted for German daily Die Welt and published on August 23rd. It was republished in the Turkish daily BirGun and translated from the Turkish into English to be published on Kurdish Question.

            - Turkey began operations against ISIS and the PKK a month ago. Has ISIS got weaker since then?

Cemil Bayik (C.B.): ISIS had suffered heavy blows. One of the reasons behind Turkey’s attacks against the PKK is to defend ISIS. Turkey is not fighting against ISIS.

            - Are they not fighting?

C.B.: Definitely not. Erdogan wants to be sovereign in the Middle East, he wants to be the caliph. ISIS is a part of the Sunni front against the Kurds and against Assad. And ISIS is not only a tool for Erdogan, they have an ideological closeness. The only thing is, there was a lot of pressure building on Turkey and they had to do something to save their reputation.

            - But ISIS has just released a video threatening Turkey.

C.B.: In that video, ISIS is saying that Turkey has been surrounded by the PKK and the ‘Crusaders’. The AKP says almost exactly the same things. ISIS is protecting Erdogan and warning Turkey of the same enemies.

            - Did the PKK suffer any blows?

C.B.: No. We took the necessary precautions. However, the war does affect us and our struggle against ISIS.”

yes it is MsChips…once again..Trump has pulled the scab off of racism and white privilege for all to see who cares to look

I just laughed at him until recently Prettyfoot, it was all like a bad circus act, but now I’m beginning to think he might actually win the damn nomination - his opponents are so pitiful, and the racist trash are adoring him. And if he’s up against Hillary, could he win? This really isn’t funny any more.

To paraphrase the great Paul Mooney, Ramos was operating under the “illusion of inclusion”. He got his wake up call today.

ohhhhh i do not think he had any illusions…..this is not on Ramos…this is on the other reporters who stood by and did nothing

I was referring to Ramos’ disrespectful behavior toward PBO (he was mimicking Bill O’Reilly in talking over and being rude to PBO). Trump is a scumbag, but I don’t feel much sympathy for Ramos. #Karma

I understand what you mean, however Ramos is a symbol to his people…what they do to him…they do to his people..

So very true, pf. So very true. And shameful.

First they came for the Hispanics, and I did nothing …

Yeah……but M. Kelly is who the press cares about.
They didn’t walk out……Why was that? They didn’t even protest. The US Media has now once again exposed themselves for the Lame, Lazy and Shallow Spineless idiots that they are.

    Ramos is back.
He is trying to ask questions…..now thank you by Trump?

Just joining in now—Trump allowed his guards to remove Jorge Ramos from his presser?
And the other “journalists” didn’t follow Jorge out the door.

This country is in even worse shape than my fears.

Trump said he did not throw reporter out security did. He does not mind if he comes back, but he cannot stand up and scream. He needs to wait till he is called on. Ramos did come back and when he asked questions Trump just held his hand out and talked over him. He was asked how he would deport the large number of people and he said by good management. “Excuse me!”with his hand out and talking over the journalists saying whatever he wants regardless of what they ask seems more like a bully than even Putin. I wish the press would ignore him instead of giving him free airtime.

Trump was cool with folks when he was only trashing the black guy, now that he has went after Hispanics, women and John McCain, not so much!
