YAY for COS and yay for ACA enrollments! Today was depressing with the House passing their #TrumpTaxScam bill and accusations about Al Franken. I survived my MRI but figure there is a fairly high chance my biopsy on Tuesday will come back distressing. Yuck! My mom had breast cancer twice 17 years apart, so this isn’t really a surprise. Maybe I am borrowing trouble by immediately jumping to worst casr scenario. Thanks for letting me vent.

That’s how it is for most people who are arrested; not to mention that they typically serve their arrest behind bars, not in the comfort of their homes. Nor are they able to earn an income to support their families while they are incarcerated.

U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson denied the request, filed Wednesday, which complained strict home confinement had caused “great burden on his family and hardship to his wife.”

Wu also requested Gates receive permission to leave home during Thanksgiving and Christmas and meet with clients in the northern Virginia area “in order to continue to earn an income so that he may support his family.”

    Paging Dr. Maddow…

A total of 210,000 gallons of oil leaked Thursday from the Keystone Pipeline in South Dakota, the pipeline’s operator, TransCanada, said.
Crews shut down the pipeline Thursday morning, and officials are investigating the cause of the leak.

This is the largest Keystone oil spill to date in South Dakota, said Brian Walsh, a spokesman for the state’s Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

      GE NCLB.

The state regulator which will be voting on Monday is Nebraska (not South Dakota where the “spill” occurred):
      https://www.ctvnews.ca/business/nebraska-regulators-to-vote-on-keystone-xl-pipeline-next-week-1.3676406

      From the article:
“LINCOLN, Neb. — A decision on the last major regulatory hurdle for TransCanada (TSX:TRP) in its nine-year quest to complete the Keystone XL pipeline will be made next week.

The Nebraska Public Service Commission says in statement that a vote on the application will be held during its meeting on Nov. 20.

Approving the project would allow TransCanada to gain access to holdout landowners’ property using Nebraska’s eminent domain laws.”

Not sure what Molly McKew refers to here, but FYI…

“”I rise with a heavy heart to join in opposing this mean-spirited, reckless bill.

“Mr. Speaker, thirty years ago, I was elected to fight for and to serve the people of my district. Today, they are calling and begging for us to slow down and to do this the right way.

“In their heart of hearts, the public knows that the safety net will be used to pay for this reckless corporate tax cut.

“Taxpayers know that this shameful bill destroys the hopes and dreams of too many as it robs poor Peter to pay wealthy Paul.

“You see, Mr. Speaker, you cannot hide the truth from the sick, the elderly, and disabled for whom this bill may mean life or death.

“You cannot hide the truth from middle class, working, and immigrant families who need every penny to make ends meet.

“You cannot hide the truth from teachers who try to lend a helping hand and students who struggle to get an education.

“And I for one refuse to hide the truth about this bill’s attack on the separation of church and State.

“Mr. Speaker — as we abandon our constitutional duty and sacrifice our moral authority — I fear that history will not be kind to us.

“This bill is a shame, a disgrace, and honestly, Mr. Speaker, it breaks my heart. I urge each and every one of my colleagues to vote no.” -Representative John Lewis (D) Ga. speaking on the House floor before todays tax vote.”

    Surprise, surprise!

From WaPo - A director at the DHS resigns after past comments criticizing blacks for ‘laziness, drug use and sexual promiscuity’ came to light

The Rev. Jamie Johnson, the head of the Center for Faith-Based & Neighborhood Partnerships, made the remarks during appearances on conservative radio shows over the last ten years before he was appointed in April by John Kelly, then the head of the Department of Homeland Security.

Acting DHS Secretary Elaine Duke has accepted Johnson’s resignation, acting DHS press secretary Tyler Q. Houlton said in a statement. “His comments made prior to joining the Department of Homeland Security clearly do not reflect the values of DHS and the administration. The Department thanks him for his recent work assisting disaster victims and the interfaith community.”

They didn’t want to listen to the black President, who told them they needed to adapt to the jobs of the future.

    November 16, 2025 at 7:51 pm

Like an idiot… I posted this on the last thread… because… IDIOT.

    Al Franken…….

I have some problems with everyone having a knee-jerk reaction to this, and the story itself.

The photo was bad & stupid. Kissing her was bad and stupid, and there should have been some discussion during the rehearsal, which is what they’re for. But in the photo you can clearly see air and shadows between his hands and her – if you’re looking at it on your phone, make it bigger, so you can see… (She also contradicts herself with her “Turning her head” “as written” as she claims, since she admits to coming up with the idea of not kissing him and turning her head to get a laugh..so it apparently wasn’t written on the page. Yes, that’s a nit I’m picking, but to me, it seems an important one, perhaps since I’m an actor and know how the process works, and since she claims to being groped without her permission while sleeping – yet he’s clearly not touching her – nor her kevlar vest. Yes, it’s horrid, and I’d be pissed AS FUCK. But I’d be more pissed they thought the photo would be funny at *her expense* – which is the entire problem how women shouldn’t overreact when being the butt of someone’s demoralizing humor – and no it’s not funny – and no we shouldn’t be okay with it. EVER.)

But he has stepped up like no one else thus far who’s been accused, apologized, explained that he gets it, and fully supports an ethics investigation into his own actions, even though it happened before he ran for office, and

This ≠ Roy Moore, Donald Trump, etc, hunting and assaulting CHILDREN, masterbating in front of females, taking a 14 year old girl to his home, taking her top and pants off and actually groping her through her underwear, and hunting young teens at the mall. To give this the same weight is insulting and diminishes the other victims. Yes, I’ve experienced unwanted sexual advances that I didn’t invite, nor ask for. Some were HORRID and I was definitely assaulted, but many, while bad, unwanted, and uncalled for, weren’t anywhere near sexual “assault”, nor would I claim they were. Perhaps it’s me personally… but I don’t think it’s black and white.

It’s an ass-brained attempt to prove “both sides do it” … Al Frankenstein has been very direct and straightforward during the early days of questioning, so they will go after him fast. I’m seeing posts that it’s even badly photoshopped, for what it all worth

    GE TODville.

“Collusion” was released today, and here’s an excerpt from the book (apparently a long read, haven’t read it yet, but may be of interest here):

    Article which references this book:

    mentions this:
“And Russian fertilizer magnate Dmitry Rybolovlev bought the Florida mansion for a staggering sum of $95 million in 2008—despite Trump having paid just $41 million for the property four years prior.”

And of course, Rybolovlev is in the news today because:

Here’s another excerpt from @LukeHarding1968’s book:

Question…do you think that Franken should should resign

    • 87 FoxfireTX
      November 16, 2025 at 8:31 pm

At this point, no I do not. The question is whether there will be other incidents that come out. As we all know, usually these are not one time behaviors. But I am hoping in this case it was. Based on what she has said, it appears he was angered by her rejection and sought to demean her throughout the remainder of the trip which is horrible. That said, this does not appear to rise to the level we have seen from the GOP or Weinstein. If so, I’m hoping he will be censured by the Senate Ethics Committee, will teach a good lesson to other men about how to handle these types of allegations, and move forward. I agree with Tally that there is difference between this, which I would term harassment, and assault. But both are intended to and demean women. Not what I want for my daughter or granddaughters. And I think it is FAR WORSE that he did this while she was sleeping, whether he actually touched her or not. To do this when she was at her most vulnerable is disgusting. I like Franken but will never think of him the same again.

And I will add, one of the things I always appreciated about PBO was his care in how he touched women, regardless of the circumstances. He always maintained some distance even when hugging women friends and supporters to ensure he did not violate their personal space or put them in an uncomfortable position. It is both smart and respectful.

No. Rachel played the statement of Tweeden regarding the rehearsal of a kiss that was in the skit. Tweeden was offended not assaulted by the gross manner in which Franken put his slobbery lips on her lips and then slipped his tongue into her mouth. Yes it was gross and offensive and she let him know it at the time. But it wasn’t sexual assault or sexual harassment.

Tweeden says she accepts Franken’s apology. I think she didn’t expect a Senate ethics investigation and that Franken would call for it along with every DEM and GOP senator. I doubt she’s going to be willing to give testimony under oath.

    • 94 Tally
      November 17, 2025 at 1:31 am

No. What he did was stupid, but it wasn’t illegal, and nothing remotely close to hunting and molesting children, or “assaulting” someone. The kiss was scripted. You have a conversation during rehearsal to establish your boundaries. As for the photo - he’s not touching her.

The Right’s attempt to paint this as the same as Moore, Trump, Weinstein, etc…… is ridiculous.

    • 97 nathkatun7
      November 17, 2025 at 3:49 am

NO! He has, in my opinion, he has sincerely apologized for his stupidity and bad humor in this one incident. There is no evidence that he has a pattern of molesting, harassing and disrespecting women. To try to make this one incident equivalent to the allegations leveled against Roy Moore, or Donald Trump, is blatantly dishonest.

    • 98 pkayden
      November 17, 2025 at 8:37 am

Not after I heard his sincere, heartfelt, detailed apology for his inappropriate behavior. He took full responsibility for what he did, made no excuses and didn’t try to smear his accuser at all. And he’s willing to submit to an investigation by his fellow Senators. Plus, his accuser has stated that she forgives him and understands that he made a mistake. I hope his constituents give him a break. He is in no way comparable to Trump or Moore.

My limited time here lately is because my dear Sadie got very sick last weekend. Thought it was gastrointestinal yuk, but it turned out to be much more serious than that. We made the decision to put her down on Wednesday after her momentous battle. Another brave warrior and beautiful gentle giant. My family was there with her and she was surrounded by love. She even managed a last kiss for me. We were blessed to have her in our lives for those 2 1/2 short years, but she is ok now.
