Well, Dudette, that’s the most eye-opening morning greeting I’ve seen in a while. I can’t wait to show this to my two-year old granddaughter. She’ll love it!

While the president was having his brilliant town hall discussion, I was attending a town hall at our local college for the Dem candidate for state assembly. This smart, decent man has gone door-to-door in his district every day since last July. He has visited thousands of homes, sat and talked with families and the elderly who live alone and learned first hand about the problems that worry people. Republicans have a majority in the district, but they’re relying on that and their slick mailers. Let’s hope people remember who came to the door and listened to their concerns.

      JackieG,

Don’t know if you had a chance to see this tweet posted by JER yesterday. Reposting it for a couple of reasons:

      1) Meta said that one of her good friends works for @TedLieu, and likes him a lot.
      2) Does anyone here know why Henry Waxman is retiring? He was always “Give ‘em Hell Henry” in the odious GOP-controlled House.

I love how gracious and respectful @TedLieu was in this tweet; he’s got an impressive bio on Wikipedia:

      Education
Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Lieu’s family immigrated to Cleveland, Ohio, where he grew up. Lieu graduated from Stanford University in 1991 with a B.S. in Computer Science and an A.B. in Political Science and graduated magna cum laude with a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1994, where he was Editor in Chief of the Georgetown Law Journal and received four American Jurisprudence awards.

He’s also an Iraq War vet:
      Military career
He holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserves. He served on active duty for 4 years as a member of the JAG Corps.

Donna, I have never felt such rage at the US Supreme Court in my life. The Republican majority is a destructive force let loose on this country with the goal of destroying democracy piece by piece. It is now the enemy within, a greater long term threat to the US than any terrorist group.

This is an absolutely brilliant choice by the Nobel Peace Prize committee. The whole world should stand up and cheer this announcement.

      Thanks, NerdyW.

Was so relieved to see that the Nobel committee did not disgrace their Peace Prize by awarding it to Greenwald’s BFF (I heard speculation on the radio last night that he-who-shall-not-be-named in the same sentence as Malala Yousafzai might “win.”).

Hope that the fact the co-winners are from India and Pakistan will have lasting impact on the peace process between these two nations.

Congrats to both recipients, well deserved.

Men like this should be kicked in the balls over and over again.

Satya Nadella came under fire Thursday for comments at a conference celebrating women in computing, in which the new Microsoft CEO suggested that women who don’t ask for raises have “good karma” and that not asking for equal pay with men is a “superpower.”

“It’s not really about asking for the raise,” Nadella told the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing conference, held in Phoenix, “but knowing and having faith that the system will actually give you the right raises as you go along.”

He added that “women who don’t ask for raises” have a “superpower … because that’s good karma, that’ll come back … that’s the kind of person that I want to trust.”

More than 100 football fans have been detained in Belarus after nearly the entire stadium joined in chanting a well-known song insulting Russian President Vladimir Putin, media reports say.

Both local and visiting fans at the Euro 2016 qualifier between Ukraine and Belarus in Borisov came together in a rousing rendition of the song - which has became a popular expression of opposition to Putin in Ukraine, the Belarusian paper Nasha Niva reports. Belarusian fans are also heard voicing their solidarity with their Ukrainian counterparts by chanting the signature slogan of the Maidan protests in Kiev - Slava Ukrayini (“Glory to Ukraine”). The Ukrainians return the favour by chanting Zhyve Belarus (“Long live Belarus”).

After the match, about 100 Ukrainian and 30 Belarusian were held and taken to the local KGB station, reportedly on suspicion of using “obscene language”, the opposition website Charter ’97 reports. According to one report, some of them will be taken to court and are expected to receive a five-day sentence. The Ukrainian fans will also be deported.

Putin continues his ugly march into repressive dictatorship. I hope the anger with him continues to boil among Russian people and finally becomes an explosive, unstoppable force. They face nothing but a bleak, miserable future as long as this megalomaniac is in charge.

      Jovie,

Isn’t this good news for Dems?

      From the article:
“[Libertarian Patterson] has five times as much support from self-identified Republicans than Democrats, and more support among conservatives than liberals. That suggests that Patterson is likelier, if anything, to take votes from McConnell.”

I hope this is not the case, but it appears that “Ebola” may become the new bomb threat. Joking about ebola is similar to people “joking” about bombs after 9/11. People need to make an extra effort to exercise good judgment.

POTUS and FLOTUS are a great tag team this election season! The MSM and so-called pundits still don’t understand them.

    • 100 hopefruit2
      October 10, 2025 at 9:28 am

Wow..you and I are on the same wavelength this morning. I was just about to post this tweet - and to add that I don’t understand how the MSM could claim that Dems are “running away from PBO” when FLOTUS is being deployed left right and center to campaign for Democrats in all areas of state and local government. FLOTUS is as close a proxy to PBO & his policies as one could possibly get!

      • 101 bella2758
        October 10, 2025 at 9:43 am

If anyone listen to FLOTUS speeches she is reminding people what things were like when Barack Obama walk into that oval office, how the pundits and the economy experts were talking about this country heading into a Great Depression. Is anyone talking of that now? FLOTUS reminds people that things are better and it’s because of the work her husband and his administration have done. She reminds people of that each time she speaks.

NYTimes quite amusing this morning. The so-called great paper of record finally got around to what TOD has been saying for months.
Frontpage headline, “Cry of GOP in Campaign: All is Dismal.” (Bad Bad bad so don’t vote) Reince Priebus has been everywhere with the absurd “President Obama cannot do anything right meme.”

On the op-ed page Paul Krugman writes about “why debt scolds hate good fiscal news.” We know. Only bad news is welcomed in Corporate media.

And introducing PBO at a fundraiser in her LA home Gwyneth Paltrow got through the first part of her remarks and then, handing the mike to POTUS says, “You are so handsome I can’t speak properly.”

Only the last item is actually amusing. The first 2 are maddening.

We will prove the Corporations and the GOP wrong in less than 4 weeks. Cheers to judges who restored voting rights in WI and Texas. Bravo!
