Hi up there, Roberta! How’s the weather in your fair state? We are having an ice storm in Portland, OR, but nothing can chill my delight at all President Obama is accomplishing at home and abroad.

President Obama is amazing. Love him madly. Although, I’m not really old enough to be his mother (unless I had him at 13), I sometimes look at pictures of him and feel he could be my son. Strange?

      Great thought sabreen.

His Mother was just a babe when she had him, and so utterly tragic that she didn’t live to see him become President.

I think that many Obot women feel protective of him because he is unrelentingly bashed unfairly by EVERYONE.

The birther nonsense wouldn’t have taken off if Ann Dunham had been here to set the record straight. One of my fantasies, I admit, is to imagine her fierce take down of those bigots with just a sentence or two.

WOW, arapaho415, I have never considered that. But I think you are absolutely right. If his mother were alive none of this birther BS would have happened.

Yardarm’s health tip for the day. :) From A Cardiac Specialist!

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the
    body:

2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs

1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion

1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure

1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack

I can also add to this… My Physician told me that water at bedtime will
also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking
hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.

A Cardiologist stated that if each person, after receiving this
e-mail, sends it to 10 people, probably one life could be saved!

I have already shared this information. What about you?

Sorry. The post above was somehow truncated.

      WATER IS LIFE

How many folks do you know who say they don’t want to drink anything before going to bed because they’ll have to get up during the night?

Something else I didn’t know … I asked my Doctor why do people need to
urinate so much at night time.

      Answer from my Cardiac Doctor:

Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright
      (legs swell).

When you lie down and the lower body (legs, etc.) is level with the kidneys,
it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier.

This then ties in with the last statement!

I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your
body, but this was news to me.

Correct time to drink water… Very Important >From A Cardiac Specialist!

Been doing all the above for quite some time, except the water before bath. I learned a long time ago from Swiss doctors to turn the temp from hot to cold a few times during a shower, to help raise and lower blood pressure, ending with cold. Been doing that now for 28+ years. It does nothing for rheumatoid arthritis, sad to say. :(

The GOPers don’t want Public Education. They want “their” kind of “people” to vote. They want to control Women and their bodies. They preach morality, yet today, they vote people with questionable morality flaws in office. The deny Science. They promote Christianity in governance. They don’t want any regulations. They deny healthcare to many. They profess love of Nation, Guns and the Military……yet their ONLY love is the Gun Culture IMO.

In a nation of 318.9M…….how are those above mentioned beliefs sustain a diverse democratic system?

Good for John Fogerty. The protest in this song is about (mostly) workingclass and poor young people fighting wars that profit the old and wealthy. It is more a protest than anti-war song.
All 3 other songs Bruce did were comments and protests about the dying American dreams. Bleak, mournful and depressed about the post midterm .

Perhaps Bruce should read TOD and see how PBO has “started a fire and found a spark” even now. My apologies for mangling lyrics.

Okay, he made some sense; but we need more than the laundry list he thinks will win the day. And he’s still a red-stater. That mindset might have worked 20 years ago but I hope he understands that the landscape has changed.

“Tester said one reason Democrats did so poorly in last week’s midterm elections is they weren’t advocating for “good, solid policies” and voters didn’t really know what they stood for.
“I think good policy is good politics,” he said in an interview with the Gazette State Bureau.

Tester said policies that Democrats should pursue include making college more affordable, protecting Social Security and Medicare, ensuring access to public lands, passing a highway bill that improves roads and bridges, making health care more affordable, taking concrete steps to improve the economy and reforming the federal tax code.”

And GOP will find excellent fear-mongering soundbites, couch it all in emotion, while the DNC is reading a list.

Everything Tester says here is bull. The Dems have to come out fighting and define the Repubs before they have a chance to define us. Then they have to press on every Republican fault, hypocrisy and deceit and underscore the deliberate acts of sabotage the R’s have inflicted on this democracy. They have to pound hard and keep pounding a simple, powerful message that Republicans are anti-people, anti-success, anti democracy and anti-American. And they have to do this every day and every hour of every day until even the voters in a semi-coma wake up long enough to get it. We need to look for fighters, not policy makers and any candidate who cannot proudly stand up and call himself an Obama Democrat should be quickly and permanently disqualified from running.

Damn near every Dem paid some lip service to Tester’s list. It had nothing to do with the loss - this is now about visceral connection. And yes - it’s time for Dems to define GOP and show them for the monsters that they are. Seriously - who thinks Jon Tester is going to do that?!?!

Senate campaigns carry a national message. GOP has moved us to a crazy place by the use of emotion. It’s time Dems got in the damned game: For good or ill, what Americans respond to best is strength, even if it’s wrong.

Dem leadership has to go through each and every speech and campaign event of PBO: the entire playbook is there. The problem: PBO cannot do it on his own without institutional support from the party, hammering the right emotions. And there’s is NOTHING wrong with casting the villain when it is due: God knows that’s all GOP has done, and it’s been a winning strategy for them.

Jackie, you’re absolutely right: “make health care more affordable” in the context of a red-stater means allowing junk insurance back into the mix. No stand on health care as a “right”, was there” I watched many a Dem go down with this very laundry list, including Quinn here in IL. The laundry list does NOT connect to the emotions.

Pearl just had her 3-year birthday with us. Kasper is uber-busy with his man-cave that he created out of a laundry basket and clean sheets. His newest trick is to take one of my shoes from the living room, take it to the bedroom and bury it in the man-cave. Nickelby is his usually wonderful self.

That is such a cute story. It’s the only one spotted on my hurried glancing through the headlines. I had to not read the comments or I was doomed to doing nothing else. But I always saw one. . .

Except I didn’t know his birthday. I’ve missed all the birthdays this year I thinks. Maybe I’ll bake him a cake! Bear had his first birthday the day of his second round of dog Obedience school. So we shared cookies and dog biscuits.
                So Happy birthday Man-Cave Architect!
Did you have the cold we had Tuesday night?
Bear & Sammy had to hold one or two feet up when they had to go out. Poor guys.

Pearl’s a little yorkie girl - 11/12. Nickelby 4/17. kasper 1/29. “Kasper” was Mr. 57’s mother’s maiden name and january 29 was my mother’s birthday - so we honored both our mothers.

Poor little Pearl - she’s still half-bald s she shivers a lot when it’s cold. Breaks my heart. It’s cold and damp but not as bad as you’ve had. Bad enough, though!

This man-cave has been hysterical. A few months ago he knocked over a laundry basket, arranged all of the sheets that were in it, and has claimed it. Toys come and go. he’s very busy arranging them every day. The newest trick, though, is dragging only one of a pair of shoes into the man cave and burying them. Kasper is not a hyper dog - but he is very busy all day long. He’s absolutely hysterical.

He might have been okay at a different time. I don’t really care if he’s run good campaigns in MT. I want someone who can get Philly to vote in overwhelming numbers. Will Dems again take for granted the urban areas, and again be confused and disappointed when legislatures turn more red? We need to reverse WI, MI, and even IL. We CANNOT win by pretending it’s effing 1992.

It’s an easier year for Dems in the Senate in 2016; but I’m sick of the cluelessness of taking things for granted. Tester says we have to exhibit what we “stand for”. I notice he said “make health care more affordable”. That’s Blue Dog b.s. Stand up for what we have, and the regulations that not only made health care more affordable, but more fair, more humane and more in line with the effing 21st century.

I understand that there’s a certain amount of saving face and unity by re-electing Harry Reid. But there is absolutely no sense that Tester is willing to take on the level of vicious redness that is engulfing our political discourse.

57—I am smdh over Tester. It seems like the Dems cannot wait to go obsolete. I hope someone at TOD can explain this move to me.

For those of you wondering how much longer the wait for the Ferguson Grand Jury announcement will be:
Two weeks from today is Thanksgiving and I doubt anything will be permited to disturb that.
I expect a decision to be told tomorrow, late afternoon.
Dr. Michael Baden testified today, maybe the final interview.
Not that I have inside info—-could be wrong and this will go until after Thanksgiving.

National Guard is currently occupying 100+ hotel rooms, so it is hard to see this dragging on. However, there is so much I don’t know.

Not to mention that it is cold with snow predicted. This strategy as a police tactic was admitted to me by someone does know what is going on.

My dream response for ferguson would be for every citizen who wants justice for Michael Brown would stay home after the decision is announced.
      No going to work.
      No shopping.
      no school.

We don’t deserve this man. He is so COMPASSIONATE and dedicated to serving the people who sent him to Washington twice, but who abandoned him in his hour of need during his last election cycle in office. Despite that betrayal he continues to move forward running circles around the GOP, MSM, lazy and apathetic Dems in Congress, and the CLUELESS public.

“We don’t deserve this man”. I never considered myself a part of America that would be included in that phrase, but I admit I am. President Barack Obama is head and shoulders above any other human being he comes in contact with. His grace, mercy, intellect, compassion, pragmatism, and ability to forgive is untouched by any politician or man I have ever witnessed. He is awe inspiring. He has been on a forwarded moving ambitious journey since day one in the Whitehouse. He has absorbed the greatest amount of disrespect, condescension, betrayal, and racism than any public figure I can think of in the history of this nation (of course MLK would have something to say about that). Watching this man work since the devastating midterms has restored HOPE in me to continue the journey for HOPE and CHANGE.

President Barack Hussein Obama is a shining example of patients, tolerance, acceptance, perseverance, and forgiveness. He is a BIGGER man than I could ever be. Yes, America does not deserve this man, yet God blessed us with this LEADER for the Ages at the right time the WORLD needed him.

Yes, America does not deserve him, but I thank God I have been alive to witness this GENIUS at work. GOD bless America and KEEP HOPE ALIVE!!!!

This has been true since at least 2012. Economy, health care, education are important to Hispanics. Immigration is NOT the only issue:

Harry Reid has asked PBO to delay anything on immigration until he can pass a funding bill. I think that date is Dec. 6th.?

This week I am reminded of an essay Nancy Letourneau wrote last year: Conciliatory Rhetoric as Ruthless Strategy. It is an excellent analysis of how people misread PBO because he doesn’t say what they want him to say at times…..how he appears to conciliate, but she explains what he is really doing. I think we are seeing the long term goals of his “conciliatory rhetoric” beginning to show their fruit this week.

Also, I have been watching Harry Reid this past week. I think he is practicing some of this conciliatory rhetoric, but underneath is a ruthless strategy. His appointment of Elizabeth Warren as adviser for strategic policy is a case in point. He works in the background for his ends. Also, I think he and PBO are working together on strategy. One thing Harry Reid is, is a Democrat. He may have disagreements, but he is ultimately a party loyalist. PBO and Kerry also work in the background, but keep their eyes on their long term goals…….we see the fruits of Kerry’s patient work this week.

I know nothing about Jon Tester…..so have no comment on him. I will wait that one out. I really want a change in the DNC leadership, and told them so when I wrote them last night.

      November 13, 2025 at 5:35 pm

A comment from dkos on Tester:

“Tester is not someone I want speaking for Democrats. He’s a hawk, he’s supporting the Keystone pipeline, and if you study his votes he votes with the GOP often. I’ve stated this before, even as I gave him money back-when, and regret. He’s been one big disappointment.

      I think this sucks.”

I often wait for Harry Reid’s strategy: about 50% of the time he delivers, and 50% he folds.

In addition to the economy in freefall when PBO took office, he had nothing but a series of abomination environmental issues to deal with.

This horrific tragedy, then the BP oil “spill.”

This is the right time for PBO to pursue the items he’s now checking off his “to do” list.

Love this President more every day.

But the message is powerful, it’s full of “righteous” outrage, it grabs attention, it looks strong. And it’s full of lies.

Is there no Dem equivalent? Why isn’t Harry Reid on the Capitol steps praising his President for doing his job? Is there no way to look strong telling the truth?

Democrats are smart people. I don’t understand why they can’t get this.

          November 13, 2025 at 7:05 pm

I think we expect the Dems to do what they have never done…they have never praised our president…stood with him…the only time that the DEMS stood firm was during the shutdown and the debt ceiling….but like I said…have they ever truly stood shoulder to shoulder with PBO…after PBO makes an announcement about Immigration…Reid makes it public that he wants PBO to wait…

gonna say it now…if they try to dis the achievements of this president…there will be hell to pay…..if they think that things were bad in the midterms…they have seen nothing yet..

Ever since then Senator Obama decided to run for president in 2007, he has been modelling the behavior he would wish all of us and, particularly all Democrats, to follow. He never panicked or over dramatized anything, but patiently, methodically built an organization that was bigger, better and infinitely more effective than the existing Democratic Party. And he did it with finesse and courtesy, never once publicly criticizing the Democratic establishment or embarrassing any individual, no matter how much he was insulted by them. He showed us how to have immense grace under pressure, how to press forward on difficult days, how to shut out the naysayers, how to respect our skills and empower each other. As president he has showed us optimism combined with pragmatism and realism. He has never stooped to the level of his enemies and has tried to seek a common ground, even as he worked against the most massive obstruction in history. After the midterms, he literally went in front of the cameras and taught us how to act- not to cower or despair, but to lift our heads with pride and a sense of optimism and move forward. He told us by his actions alone to give nothing to our critics, waste no sorrow on our enemies, remain undaunted at our prospects and just keep moving forward bringing light and honesty into the darkest hate. If Democrats in this country-and that includes you, Jon Tester-opened their eyes and realized how much this incredible president is teaching us every day we would not only become better human beings, we would never lose another election.

It has come to a sorry pass in the United States in 2014 when men this biasws against democracy and fairness decide the fate of a nation.
There was a time in my years growing up when the Supreme Court was a source of pride for many people. Now it’s a source of shame.

that would have been the warren court. i think i assumed the supreme court would always operate that way, as the last bastion of justice for the american people. now so many members are in the pockets of the oligarchs, it hardly deserves the title ‘supreme’. having said that, though, i’m powerfully grateful for ginsberg, sotomayor, kagan, and breyer. and sometimes kennedy.

I was listening to Stephanie Miller’s show this morning and one of her guests made what I thought was a good point… that the court is needed to interpret/rule in situations where the authors are not available to clarify the intent…such as the authors of the Constitution. In the case of the ACA, the authors are around to clarify the intent of part of the law being challenged. Challengers should look to the author(s) rather than the court in this case.

I love traveling with PBO, especially when he is winning from country to country. All of the months of fore-thought, planning and execution are coming together so beautifully that will benefit millions (and in the case of the China deal, the entire world).
This is also a big FU to those who thought that he would be their bitch after the mid-term. PBO won both of his campaigns with a very large margin electorally and in the popular vote. Why the haters thought that he should own the failures of others, I will never understand.
Thanks Chips and NW for being our travel guides once more.

i know this is high on the president’s agenda. compare the cost of higher education in america to the other developed nations, and you can see why so many people are unable to make reasoned decisions in elections.

‘ “College price increases are not accelerating. But they are accumulating,” Baum and Ma wrote. The widening gap in pay between college and high school graduates is more about “declining wages at the lower end of the distribution, as opposed to increases for those with a college education.”
As families continue to struggle to afford college, the Obama Administration plans to introduce a ratings system to show which colleges provide the most value, with metrics such as graduation rates and average student debt. ‘
