It was the entire House GOP leadership (Boehner,McCarthy,Scalise…and some D House members) I guess it was like a codel but a domestic show of bi-partisanship. It was the first time Boehner ever rode of AF1 w/ President Obama as well…
Yes, I heard this was his first AF1 ride. I also don’t recall him ever showing up for any other such events where POTUS has spoken. Must’ve been shamed into this. Forgive my candor, but I swear the one and only reason I was glad he was in the building was because of this country’s rules of succession.

Shakespeare famously said the past is prologue. The huge impact the past plays on the present and future. This is why PBO has been speaking a lot about America’s original sin, the institution of slavery. This is not a comfortable subject for anyone, but an understanding of it (and the mentality required to maintain and sustain it) is required, if we as a country will ever see meaningful improvement in race relations. Professor/Reverend PBO is giving this country an much needed history lesson. He is speaking a truth that desperately needs to be told. PBO is that rare man who is perfect for his time and position. The fact that this country elected and reelected PBO gives me hope.

answer : it all about 2016 & its just the same reason Haley and Graham publicly claim to have changed their opinion on the confederate flag;
my take (which I shared here yesterday) is that the GOP in DC, just like the local GOP in SC, sense that there is huge sense of anger, shame and regret in much of the non-black population in the rest of the country.
they seem to feel a shift in the mood of the ordinary people who are increasingly vocal about the need to work towards elimination of bigotry and all kinds of injustice.
it is not just the “usual suspects” who are demanding changes to unfair structures. rather, other usually silent voices are joining the call and hitting the street based on their own people initiative;
in summary, the gop is beginning to think that it a significant number of voters, who they usually count on to maintain the gop in power, are uneasy with the status quo and are starting to ponder who they vote for.
the internal polling is making the gop try to put on a front that is more tolerant of racial diversity
also, they gop is hoping that the conversation doesn’t grow louder and more determined on the issue of gun control
