Happy Saturday everyone, catch ya later!!
Good Saturday morning Chips and TOD.
In this week’s address, the President spoke to the merits of the high-standards trade agreement reached this past week. The Trans-Pacific Partnership helps level the playing field for American workers and businesses, so we can export more Made-in-America products all over the world, supporting higher-paying American jobs here at home. thought I was posting on Facebook. Sorry for the duplication
No problem donna! This is an excellent video with info that everyone could use - especially those who haven’t read it, but feel the need to diss it just because they’re running for office…
Donna, if people would actually listen to President Obama or read the agreement, once it’s published, they would embrace the TPP with open arms. But there are actually people who will tell you that the president is “hiding” something or that something is being sneaked in that will completely undermine American workers. Time after time, PBO has to patiently explain what people are too closed-minded, ill informed or incurious to find out for themselves.
Donna my comment to you got lost in the ozone. Maybe it will resurface later.
Good Morning Ms. Chips!
Good Morning everyone!
have a fantastic day
Good Morning TOD
good morning & happy Saturday Ms. Chips and all of TOD ~ no sunshine here in Baltimore today :( wishing all of you a lovely day :)
Sun will come out, before tomorrow! ;)
Happy Saturday TODers
Heeeeeeeeeeya Chips!!
Good morning, TODers! It took me a while to catch up, that lovely state won’t last long! So many goodies from Chips, NW, & even AMK! :) Those dispicables in OR sure got to see what might looks like. From PBO’s talk to those Ospreys (sp?) flying overhead. Bet they had Osprey-envy!
Meta, he’s in your corner! SoCal TODers, you’re next! Lovely Day!
I’ll take good care of him, Gazelle! Have a great weekend!
G’morning Chips, TOD, lurkers, even amk, and congrats Chips on #1 :)
Happy Saturday everyone!
Morning all. Last night we drove our son to the airport only to discover that the flight was cancelled (should have checked before we left). So we got up at 4:00 am for an early morning flight that actually took off. Soon we’ll be on our way to pick up our granddaughter for a week’s stay, so sleep is pretty much going to be a thing of the past for the next week.
Does anyone else get an invasion of box elder beetles each year? Each October these creatures crawl all over my window trying to get in and stay clustered there until the first frost. It’s really creepy.
Not here. Never seen them. Sorry you have to deal with these!!
Have a wonderful visit with granddaughter. :) :)
or adopt them. whichever floats your boat.
salt? it has never been known to do any good to any body… like the goppers.
You and airports do not play well together:) No little beetles here…we do, however, have gigantic palo verde bugs that can fly and are big enough to carry a house away….does that count? They hatch every year from larva in the ground under palo verde trees and come out every June from the ground…even THAT creeps me out! They are huge….and they fly…which is even worse when you see how big and menacing they are! And scorpions…we have those, too. Thank god THEY can’t fly:) Good luck with your beetles….pull the blinds till they’re gone!
If you dare:) Sorry…don’t know how to shorten the link:)
https://www.google.com/search?q=picture+of+palo+verde+beetle&espv=2&biw=1374&bih=911&tbm=isch&imgil=w4gXrK7rwHC7vM%253A%253BnZ8p8Fmx4U4NkM%253Bhttp%25253A%25252F%25252Fmycorgi.com%25252Fxn%25252Fdetail%25252F1150197%25253AComment%25253A1924264%25253Fxg_source%2525253Dactivity&source=iu&pf=m&fir=w4gXrK7rwHC7vM%253A%252CnZ8p8Fmx4U4NkM%252C_&usg=__9nNtMLdueej6xQtzC4TwWh7TK90%3D&ved=0CDEQyjdqFQoTCIej4-_9t8gCFcyfgAod2BgIww&ei=Dg8ZVofkBcy_ggTYsaCYDA#imgrc=w4gXrK7rwHC7vM%3A&usg=__9nNtMLdueej6xQtzC4TwWh7TK90%3D
Df, your bugs make me want to stick with my box elder beetles. At least mine are small.
:) That was the plan!
We have the box elder beetles. Not as much as we use too. We also had them when we lived in Colorado. The part I hate about them is how they survive the winter in the house and are there next spring.
Growing up on the old homestead we did. My Mom hated them too. Rarely see them in WY, but we’re overrun with republicans. 🎃
Morning everyone:) Happy Weekend:)
blood and gore to start your day. enjoy. #revengeforevenamkcrack
Steve Kroft of all people asking President Obama about Putin’s strength when Kroft himself couldn’t stop dipping is cock into every hole he could find outside of this wife’s. And now he sits on tv with a smirk on his face acting like he’s some fucking paragon of virtue. If I were a journalist and an adulterer I wouldn’t dare ask any one let alone the President of the United States any questions that have to do with weakness or morality. I’m so disgusted with these fuckers.
Dick swingers and cock dippers…I love this place:) Steve seems to equate strength with reckless and dangerous….not so big on the thought out, brainy ideas…seems to be a symptom of a disease Republicans suffer from…( none of them are very bright) He has ALWAYS been snarky and condescending to PBO…I think he just has a really bad inferiority complex. He should. Pay no mind to that sob…he hasn’t change the world for the better or done anything even close to the work the man sitting next to him has….it’s more than penis envy, its human envy. Dali Lama was right:)
I don’t know about Steve Kroft’s character, and I happen to think he used to respect the president. He sometimes asked questions to the president just to give a platform to rebuke some criticisms. Maybe it’s not the case anymore and he’s grown disrespectful ? Anyway he is a bad interviewer.
But you’re definitely onto something when you talk about t”equate strength with reckless and dangerous” And you can be sure almost everybody in the Beltway will make the same mistake.
What Putin is doing is TAKING SIDES in a secular conflict between Shias and Sunnis. That’s absolutely reckless. Putin may be effective against ISIL, but he is fighting them AT THE EXPENSE of a whole muslim community. He will FEED HATE and make terrorists of moderate men and women.
What President Obama has been doing instead is trying to bring Shias and Sunnis to work together.
Both presidents of Syria and Iraq certainly love him because Putin doesn’t ask them to work with Sunnis. Much easier than being inclusive and work for a real, durable peace, as President Obama is urging them to do.
What Putin is doing is very short sided, and will have long term and tragic consequences.
And the “commentariat” in the US will praise him because they’re every bit as shallow and short sided than the russian dictator.
Some on the left have that disease as well. All those who criticize PBO for being weak, who want their own Democratic bully, who idolize Warren and Sanders because they “tell it like it is”.
Good Morning TOD, its such a beautiful day outside.
and he is a wingut toonist.
more macabre.
Mayhem is the order of the day.
bloodbath and tears.
another rabid wingnuttter for a toonist. they are all losing it.
the face of real ‘courage’.
Could this mess be the final straw for Indies that pushes them toward the Dems en masse????
The thing about Indies that I’ll never understand is that you’re either for good government or you’re not, you’re either for politicians doing the right thing or you’re not, I’m not that keen on fence-sitters.
I don’t even understand fence sitters. Will watch and see…
How can anyone be a fence sitter in 2015? It’s BS.
the real question is will this push the lazy dem asses to the polls?
That goes without saying. They infuriate me worse than anyone.
Amen…i so agree with you amk…because we cannot effect the GOP….
because of ODS the DEM Presidential Candidates along with the DNC…..are missing an opportunity to stand on the strong shoulders of Barack Obama….they can start there ans have a plan to more forward….to galvanize citizens to move forward….
enough with nutters.
yea, it’s a redux, so?
GOOD MORNING TOD FAMILY…HAD TO TURN THE FURNACE ON THIS MORNING AND TODAY…PACKING UP OUTSIDE FURNITURE…HAVE A BLESSED DAY EVERYONE!
If you’ve ever worked in a large competent public institution, this makes zero sense.
News you won’t see on your TV today.
20 years ago today, the “Million Man March? convened in D.C. Close to one million if not more African American men showed up that day. The crowd total was disputed but you can see for yourself what the crowd looked like on that historic day. See the picture below. The purpose was to show the world that black lives matter. You see the more things change, the more things stay the same. Today there will be an anniversary rally on the National Mall. Thousands of people are pouring into my city for this event today but because its not Trump rallying a couple hundred fools with one of his rambling speeches of nothing your cable provider will only give it maybe a mention. You can follow the event on twitter at #JusticeOrElse
I’m no fan of Louis Farrakhan but on that day in 1995 he gave black men a sense of pride and belief in themselves that hadn’t been on display in a very long time. I remember rushing home to watch the event and I cried tears of joy when he had all those black men take a pledge to improve their lives and their communities. Oh BTW a young community organizer who was teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago and would go on to become the 44th President of the United States was one of those million black men in attendance who took that pledge on that October day.
Organizers say that today’s anniversary rally will focus on greater responsibility in the black community for the violence in the inner city and the injustice of the criminal system especially towards people of color.
Howard University Students marching to the Rally this morning.
I actually saw an amazing piece on this earlier this morning. What network?? Do not remember since I was switching from MSNBC to ABC to CBS. It was a family from Oxon Hill (MD). The parents took their SIX sons in ’95, raised them to be activists, community-minded strong black men. The one son who was in the interview is now principle of Oxon Hill High School. Also in the interview was his young son, maybe 9-10 years old. They are all participating today. I would love to share it with folks here. It was truly an amazing piece. If only we had more of that on our “news.”
I’ve hardly seen anything in the MSM about the “Million Man March” anniversary rally. Yet I’ve seen nonstop, wall-to-wall coverage of a couple hundred inbred, gun-toting idiots in Roseburg who happen to hate our President (mostly because of his race). Of course the media won’t cover this because it’s the Black community demonstrating responsible behavior, condemning violence and rightfully calling out the criminal injustice system.
Perhaps Piers Morgan might want to comment on the blatant one-sided coverage of gun violence among colleagues in his field of work, rather than jumping to attack the President when the next mass shooting occurs.
My cousin is a freshman at Boys Latin.
Man, I haven’t even heard that this was happening today. What a travesty.
I also didn’t know that PBO was in attendance! Like you, I remember watching it on TV and feeling so stirred by the outpouring of strength and unity. I hope today’s event is a grand success.
I hope so as well.
I didn’t know that either but it surely fits with who POTUS is. The same President whose favorite character on favorite TV show is Omar Little.
Make of this what you will:
NY Times front page piece by the Hateful Peter Baker draws an important distinction between VP Biden and the former SOS.
In a nutshell—-VPB stands with PBO in advising great caution in military matters and HRC stands closer to “Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb bomb Iran” McCain.
The timing of this article lines up with Ash Carter informing us yesterday that $$$ to train in Syria has been withdrawn.
It also lines up with (yet again) TV pundits whining about how PBO should leave more troops in Afghanistan.
PBO and VPB stand on the Peace Side.
Again, why bother to make this distinction unless the Vice President will be throwing his hat in the ring in the near future???
Donna, thanks for bringing this event to TOD for I would have never know this is taking place today
thank you Donna Dem for you coverage of the march….like the President always says…We are the Change we seek!
I had to borrow that picture
DD, your mention of the historical significance of today’s date reminded me to take a peek at the EJI timeline. This is one of the incidents I saw there. Sadly, the ‘battle’ for justice and fair recognition is unending.
Civil Rights Activist Octavius Catto Murdered After Voting in Philadelphia
On October 10, 1871, African American activist and Union Army veteran Octavius Catto left the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, school where he served as a teacher and administrator and headed to the polls to cast his ballot in the city’s mayoral election. The election was only the second in Philadelphia in which African American men were allowed to vote as required by the Fifteenth Amendment, ratified in 1870.
Local white Democrats, threatened by the emergence of a new, largely Republican African American voting bloc, tried to suppress the black male vote with violence. Beginning days before the election, white policemen and mobs alike terrorized the black community. On the morning of the election, several African American men were shot and some were killed simply for being on the streets on election day.
Aware of the dangers, Catto was not deterred from exercising his newly acquired right to vote. A Northern man with Southern roots, Catto moved North with his family from South Carolina after his father’s emancipation from slavery and the young man grew into an active advocate for equal rights. In 1863, Catto helped organize black infantry units and aggressively lobbied for their inclusion in the Union miliary effort. Three years later, he staged a one-man protest against Philadelphia’s segregated street cars.
Catto did successfully cast his vote on October 10, 1871, but he did not survive the day. ………………………….//

EXTREMELY under appreciated
not only in fund raising, but also in voter registration, he has led the way. even gopolitico says that this will help dems in 2016.
http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2015/10/gop-tv-ads-ground-game-213225
In a way, I am glad the dems have a strong field organisation. In a way, I am sad that they even need that to motivate & mobilize their voters. the rw’ers turn out just out of spite.
for Hillary? Really? You can believe that??
I don’t.
If PBO did 10 million events for some people it would still not make up for taking what they believed was rightfully theirs in 2008.
:)
Stunning!
i had no idea this was even happening. of course, i knew in great detail about the recent republican/teebagger rally in the same spot a month or so ago, and knew about each speaker and what they said since it was in “the news” constantly around that day. there were a few hundred people at that crazy-fest, even though they had their superstar (according to “the news” people) speakers there. “the news” being bought up specifically to pump republican propaganda is one of the biggest problems of our time. best of luck to the marchers today though! president obama has shown we can overcome this problem!
I turned the TV on for 5 minutes and saw Trymaine Lee making the correct point and what ought to be the takeaway, against airhead Melissa’s talking point approach.
This March today is about the elevating experience of participation. It is not about the what does it accomplish viewpoint.
The Process of Unity Hope and Empowerment.
Not to be diminished by the talking points stressing Product.
5 mintues and then Melissa announced next they’s be discussing Bill Cosby and what Stephon Marbury is saying about Michael Jordan. Who gives a fuck
CLICK!!!!!.
Propaganda delivery system in full display.
Thanks so much, Donna Dem, for these photos. I do not have a TV and so hadn’t heard anything about this march. Fantastic that so many are turning up for it. I will pass along your photos to everyone out here so they learn about this gathering.
You are quite welcome cd4biden!
Good Morning Chips and TOD.
Also being aired on CSPAN and cspan.org
Wow! Just watching a young Latino man rapping. Thank you so much for this link, so we can hear their speeches and see who is attending.
thank you JER
In Oregon you can’t buy any sedated except by prescription from a doctor. You can buy all the guns you want.
Morning everyone.
Speaking of the VP’s expected announcement. We were told he is gathering with his family this weekend to make the decision, and I was thinking about when he might make his announcement. He is such a gentleman that I think he might wait until after the DNC debate on Tuesday night so as not to steal their spotlight. So maybe Wednesday or Thursday before we hear anything? Does anyone have any other ideas? I realize we will hear when we will hear, but I was just hoping it will be sooner rather than later.
Have a great weekend everyone.
I think you’re correct in that VPB will not disrupt the first (D) debate.
But, who knows?
i do not like the idea that he will miss the first debate…
I read somewhere that he insists on really preparing for debates, that he spent about 90 hours prepping for one debate in 2012. I don’t know what his strategic decisions are regarding skipping the first one but that may be a small part of it.
sigh….meta….

What a WONDERFUL tribute they paid to FLOTUS:)
The Ultras are called “outsider” and “anti-establishment” and “anti-government.” And they are in various ways. But they are mostly anti-democratic. They reserve their greatest contempt for compromise, even with members of their own party. Compromise is the viscous stuff that enables diverse interests to be accommodated and government to function. It’s the stuff of American pluralism and representative democracy, fluid enough to carry multiple views but still sticky enough to make one of many.
Thank you Chips for that stunningly handsome picture of PBO! I needed it this morning after my bug nightmare last night! Just before bed, my kitties rain into my bathroom (which I can see from my bed) with great interest, so I figured they found a spider or something. I get up to look and I see what seems to be a 2 inch cockroach with wings! Horrified is not an adequate description of how I felt. I haven’t see a roach in a house I’ve lived in since I was a little girl, and now to see a flying giant one? I looked it up on Google and it is called an “American cockroach” They come in houses looking for water apparently, but usually live in damp places. The articles I saw said California’s increased hot weather is to blame for their increasing numbers. Ughh! I plugged up the overflow drains in my sink and bathtub, in case he got in that way. Now I have to email my landlord to clean up the leaves that the leaf-blower guys just pile up into the flower beds (I read that they like leaf piles).
Jackiegrumbacher and DesertFlower, sorry about your bug problems, but it was nice to know I wasn’t alone in being creeped out today!
Also, Jojothecat, I read that they come into houses that are not kept too cold with air conditioning, so maybe your $300 bill was worth it if your A/C is keeping these awful things out of your house!
By the way, before I head out for work, I wanted to mention to all the TODers hoping for VP to enter the race that I was watching the opening to Thursday night’s Late Late Show and James Corden did a bit on all the crazy names of people running for president in 2016. He showed the list of people who have actually applied and three of them were Joe Biden, Joseph R. Biden and Joseph Robinette Biden, with a date of August 24, 2025 (I think) as the date of application. Could someone have registered his name for him? Is this common if someone is thinking of, but not sure they are running? Donna Dem (thank you for all the wonderful news this a.m.) you know a lot about these things; am I justified in getting my hopes up after seeing that?
The Montgomery County Correctional Facility is top-notch when it comes to compliance with the federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, federal auditors say.
The county facility is not required to comply with the law, which only governs federal facilities.
However, wanting all county departments to use “best practices? in their operations, the county commissioners directed the prison to implement the federal standards.
I just *love* the colors of autumn.
I do too, SW. I would say that autumn is my (almost) most favourite season for that very reason - if only it didn’t come before winter!
Haha, vc. I say the EXACT thing about winter following fall.
:D :D Hi, TnMG.

Interesting assessment of the competing visions then SOS Clinton and VP Biden in the President’s Foreign Policy
Having no previous knowledge of the Million Man March, Donna’s comments above made me go and look back. This was the write up on the event by editors of Encyclopaedia Britannica - American History
Million Man March,
Million Man March [Credit: Doug Mills/AP]political demonstration in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 16, 1995, to promote African American unity and family values. Estimates of the number of marchers, most of whom were African American men, ranged from 400,000 to nearly 1.1 million, ranking it among the largest gatherings of its kind in American history.
The event was organized by Louis Farrakhan, the often controversial leader of the Nation of Islam, and directed by Benjamin F. Chavis, Jr., the former executive director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, to bring about a spiritual renewal that would instill a sense of personal responsibility in African American men for improving the condition of African Americans. Among other prominent African Americans who supported and spoke at the event were Jesse Jackson, Rosa Parks, Cornel West, and Maya Angelou, along with Marion Barry and Kurt Schmoke, then the mayors of Washington, D.C., and Baltimore, Md., respectively. “Let our choices be for life, for protecting our women, our children, keeping our brothers free of drugs, free of crime,? Schmoke told the crowd, which assembled on the Mall. It was reported that in response to the march some 1.7 million African American men registered to vote.
A number of African American leaders did not support the march, including Mary Frances Berry, chairman of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights, and Rep. John Lewis, the latter of whom saw Farrakhan’s message as an effort to “resegregate America.?

Donna said this above … “You see the more things change, the more they stay the same.” This is the last oneI’ll share - I won’t look backwards anymore this morning
OCTOBER 12th, 1995
Three Brentwood, Pennsylvania, Police Officers Kill Unarmed Black Motorist During Traffic Stop
Jonny Gammage, cousin and business partner of Pittsburgh Steelers football player Ray Seals, was detained during a traffic stop while driving Mr. Seals’s Jaguar in the working-class suburb of Brentwood on the morning of October 12, 1995. According to testimony, Lt. Milton Mullholland pulled Mr. Gammage over for tapping his breaks and called Officer John Votjas for backup. The officers later claimed that Mr. Gammage, who was 5’6″ and 165 pounds, pointed an object at the officers – which turned out to be a cell phone – and struggled. Mullholland and Votjas, along with Officer Michael Albert, Sgt. Keith Henderson, and Officer Sean Patterson, ultimately pinned Mr. Gammage face-down on the pavement; he asphyxiated and died after several minutes.
On November 27, 1995, Mulholland, Votjas were charged with third degree murder, and Albert was charged with involuntary manslaughter. The charges against Mullholland and Votjas, were later reduced to involuntary manslaughter. Henderson and Patterson were not charged in the incident.
Officer Votjas was acquitted by an all-white jury and, a year later, promoted to sergeant; Judge Joseph McCloskey dismissed charges against Mulholland and Albert after two trials resulted in mistrials. In January 1996, Brentwood police chief Wayne Babish, who had called for a complete investigation into Mr. Gammage’s death, was fired by the Brentwood City Council for failing to support the charged officers.
Multiple public protests were held in Pittsburgh and elsewhere, calling for “Justice for Jonny? and federal intervention. However, in 1999 the Department of Justice declined to file civil rights charges, stating that there was not enough evidence that unreasonable force had been used.
