Exactly - ALL the candidates on the Dem Debate stage last night have ran (and won) political campaigns before. They know what TV exposure is…Sheesh!

They are all about shiny objects and who won the day bs distractions. No wonder PBO is contemptuous of all these corrupt airheads of canle noise.

Nah! I noticed most questions after the initial one were posed directly to Clinton or Sanders. Not particular fair in terms of time allotted. Jim Webb mentioned it but it made him look whiny. That’s my complaint about how the debate was conducted. Otherwise I think Anderson did a decent job of moderating. Plus, I’ve gotta admit whenever Webb and Chafee did speak, I found myself wanting to say “okay you can sit down now. You are soooo not gonna be President.” They were just outmatched and didn’t have the chops to get themselves in the convo. When the opposition doesn’t play fair, the best politicians know how to work around that. PBO is a master at it.

G’morning Chips, TOD, lurkers and congrats even amk on #1! Happy Wednesday everyone. :) Thanks Chips for reminding us of the creative arts performance at the White House this evening. It will be later aired on PBS in early Jan - I believe.

But I just had to say that Brian Stokes Mitchell and Audra McDonald are my DREAM couple to play POTUS and FLOTUS on broadway! :) :) To see them back again on the same stage…LAWD…and all the other greats…James Taylor, Carol Burnett..Smokey, Queen, Trombone…Woooosh!

    Good morning, TOD ohana.

Thanks to everyone who commented and tweeted regarding the Dem debate last night. I was able to catch up on what happened. This first outing should put paid to that “both sides are the same”meme that we keep seeing. I hope that the dem. candidates keep on point throughout.

It is still hot, muggy, and buggy in NE Fla. (I should buy stock in anti- itch products); cannot wait fr cooler temperatures.

Have a great day everyone: Barack Hussein Obama is still president and more good things are to come.

In 2012, PBO’s first debate performance was not unlike the majority of the candidates last night -yet he got lambasted for it, and Romney was praised even as it was evident that Romney told a pack of lies… Just throwing that out there. Amazing how the bar is set twice as high and the goal posts are moved for PBO relative to ANY other political candidate…

I enjoyed the debate very much. The contrast with the GOP is staggering. And it was NOT boring.

Some observations: Bernie is an insufferable jerk. It was clear if it isn’t his issue, stated in the way he wants, he kicks everyone off his lawn. I like him less and less. He had a few moments, but what was obvious was that he is “above” debate prep, he is “above” reaching a wider group of voters. He would be an awful President. He shares the lion’s share of our issues and beliefs, but he is the wrong messenger and clearly the wrong leader.

It’s hilarious to just read the titles of diaries at the Orange Satan this morning: Bernie really won it’s just that no one knows it. Hilarious, I tell you.

Hillary did great. So much better than I expected. But this is how serious campaigns prepare. And prepared she was.

We can zero in on the things that bother us, like her TPP stance (which I don’t believe for a minute, frankly). But the continuation of PBO’s progressive policies is the clear direction of all of the candidates. I want it stated louder and stronger, but it’s there. And in the end, that’s all that matters: a march in the right direction that will continue under a Democratic POTUS, which is what PBO has always wanted.

Webb - oh, please. O’Malley - Poor guy, now I see why you can’t catch a break. You need some serious schooling, young man. Chafee - poor guy.

Our worst is light years betters than their best.

This is interesting because I had this same thought as Dan before I went to sleep last night. I felt that Hillary stood up to the onslaught quite well with poise and intelligence. I’ve stated on a number of occasions here that Hillary is a very smart woman and that came across last night but….. I had this sense that when I went on Facebook (all Sanders), read some articles from watch parties in Iowa (Sanders & O’Malley), saw the online polls (Sanders) as well as seeing that focus group last night (Sanders) that I was missing something. Bernie’s supporters were out in force last night. His supporters are far more passionate and active in their support for him. Although I felt that she clearly won last night it will be interesting to see how the actual snap polls come out in the next few days. I could be way off base here but we maybe surprised to see that the public at large felt that Bernie did a lot better than we thought.

      October 14, 2025 at 10:16 am

Well, we made a concerted effort in 2007,08 to do exactly what Sanders supporters are doing. But our candidate was more inclusive, a better leader, a better organizer. I don’t know that the far left Sanders supporters are enough to win the nomination, much less the general.

Donna, to your point. The same people who didn’t want a contested primary at all are now declaring the primary season is over.
Bernie spoke to his base and might have enlarged it. This is perplexing to us, but time will tell.

I was grateful because there was no bashing of PBO.

      apples and oranges

Ours was more diverse both in age and color and there was a passion with purpose. His base has passion with poutrage. Hard to sustain the later.

Probably one reason that his poll numbers are up is because it’s the first time a lot of people have paid any attention at all to him.

I know how she feels. After the debate I realized that I was feeling sad and relieved at the same time. I thought that our Dems did a great job at showing the contrast between the GOP a$$holes and their sad, tired ideas, and our focus on the future, but I also was so sad that PBO wasn’t up there able to debate for a 3rd term. Sigh.

My Harvey was a Westie mix with floppy ears. We found him on the street, treated his cancerous foot, and loved him for 7 1/2 years. He was about 10 when we found him. What a great dog he was. I miss him every day.

That’s my Harvey’s face, right there.

I don’t know if she realizes it or not, the sole reason hillary ‘won’ y’day is because she didn’t get into ‘obama bashing’, not even once as much as I watched the debate. The moment she starts to triangulate - I still don’t trust her coterie - and starts to ‘distance herself’ from him, her numbers will dive.
