Thanks NCLB.
PBO is truly one of a kind.
And I resent the crack about an onion being on the podium that caused his tears. How evil must you be to think such a thing about your President. I tell you, people better thank their lucky stars that they are Americans and not citizens of other countries. A statement like that would be the last one uttered…
True. However, have seen LOTS of comments on our local TV posts saying he is a fake, had onions on the podium, etc. etc. These people are so filled with hate and envy and fear, they see nothing common sense in anything.
Adding: Someone challenge Andrea whatsherface to ask some of the bereaved family members behind the President if they can corroborate her obscenely imbecilic onion theory. Dare her to ask them.
Yes, this President is special. Because he ended with the story about Zebulon here in Knoxville, the TV stations Facebook pages have done a couple of posts with that part his speech. The comments are what you can imagine from this red/redneck/gun-loving/toting area. I did not reply to any of them. Instead, I did a comment thanking Mr. President, saying I am proud to support his doing the right thing, at least trying to save lives, even if it is one life and sparing one family from the heartache. I’ve had a couple of replies (on each of the stations post which I have not and will not read!) I’ve also, at last check, had 26 likes on one post and 12 on the other. I take that as a good sign!
He’s letting his emotions come to surface over these situations where he didn’t when they initially occurred. And this is causing some people to Lose Their Minds
He shed tears during his first presser right after the incident.
And anyone still spewing the old crap about ‘taking guns’ is simply proving that they didn’t listen to a single, very clearly spoken word the President said today.
In an emotional and, at times, tear-filled address, President Obama on Tuesday vowed to do something about the plague of gun violence and flexed his muscle via executive powers in an effort to slow the flood of firearms sales and help keep weapons out of the hands of potential gunmen. “People are dying and the constant excuses for inaction no longer do, no longer suffice,” he said. Pictured here, an emotional Obama pauses as he speaks about the youngest victims of the Sandy Hook shootings, Jan. 5, 2016, in the East Room of the White House in Washington, D.C. I read somewhere earlier today that the Feds are Poking around in Flint River. All of a sudden, that wicked crude cruel Gov is now declaring an Emergency?
I hope the Citizens of Flint……..Michael Moore, are these Not your People……..Gets to sue MI.
Yep, Only Dr. Maddow has done more on this story, nationally.
Thank you Chips for this post and this blog! Just watched the announcement.
“If a father wants to teach his daughter how to hunt….” Notice how PBO takes the opportunity, even in this context, to change stereotypes and perceptions.
God Bless President Barack Obama! Thank God we have had him for almost two terms and will have him for one more precious, world-changing year. Our next President will not be anything close to PBO by any measure, but if we all get out and vote and elect a competent Democrat, and succeed in filling House and Senate seats with supportive Dems, the 8 years of action and change that President Obama has brought us will end up putting us on a trajectory to continue his legacy. This presidency will end up having been the salvation of our country and the world at a critical time in our history (remembering where we were economically, socially, diplomatically and environmentally in 2008).
I will be visualizing protective light around our President as he travels to Virginia and other places for these coming town halls. I ask my fellow TODers to do the same. Every single one of us who care about this issue need to stand up to support and protect this President.
Sadly, Trump may be the Republican’s Presidential nominee which shows how much that party has fallen. Even if he wasn’t a racist, he has zero political experience and is totally unqualified to be President.
The GOP hate it when Pres Obama shows the world what authentic humanity looks like, and they recognize that people respond to it. The thing is, how can anyone not weep when speaking about the murder of innocent children? I do. I have held my own dead child in my arms, and his was not a violent death. A natural man or woman weeps at such grievous and heart rending events.
I would add the biggest part of their rage is they have spent the last seven years trying to dehumanize the black President, as “not one of us”, without success.
The GOP’s story that PBO is not one of us (meaning them) is very true. He is not mean hearted, stupid, greedy or rude like them. He is much better than them and many of us wish we could be as good as he is, not wanting to be one of them.
His advise to his daughters to find a job that they can help people and leave the world a better place should be all of our goals.
Bill I totally agree. As a mom who has also held a precious child in death I deeply feel for you and all those who have lost children either to natural or as a result of violence. May God hold these precious angels in his all encompassing love, and may He comfort those of us who grieve the loss of a precious life.
I am also grateful for President Obama’s infinite compassion and love, he is such a caring and good man.
Dear TOD, It was an honor to represent OFA-OR and our Alliance partners at the White House today and totally worth it to stand in the cold outside the White House gates for more than an hour. The warm greetings among invitees made the time fly. Once inside, there was more schmooz time until we were escorted to our seats. Of course the tallest man in the room,James Comey, sat in front of me, but the sight line to the podium was great. There were multiple standing ovations when survivors like Gabby Giffords walked in and of course when POTUS and Veep arrived. The entire speech was great and so warmly received. When President Obama shed a few tears, we cried with him that too many children as well as adults have died because of fatally easy access to guns by dangerous people. I don’t have a smart phone and will not be able to share photos until I get home with my husband’s camera. I will cherish the hugs from Jenna Yuille, Shannon Watts, Rev. Pickney’s daughters, and a kiss from Gabby Giffords embedded in this memory and rededicate myself to the cause of gun sense.
Such an honor to be there with you & Jenna! Our tears refresh our resolve to #StopGunViolence .@OFA https://t.co/hsgDjrJ3Md
What an absolutely wonderful honor, Judith. Today was so memorable in many ways and you were there. Thanks for everything you do in support of our POTUS.
Judith, thank you for telling us about this. We are SO very proud of you for all you’ve done to earn the honor of being at the White House today. You are our hero!!!
Thanks to all of you for your kindness and tremendous support of our President. I know he feels it. Hop on the OFA conference call with him Friday if you can.
Judith, thank you for being there. Thank you for bearing witness to this important event and supporting our great President Obama in this effort to bring safety and healing to our land.
PRESIDENT OBAMA’S GUN CONTROL TEARS ARE THE BLACKEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED THIS WEEK
Damon Young, 1/5/16
It’s been well-documented here that President Obama is firmly and fully ensconced in the fuck devoid span of his presidency. He has nestled in his full-length no fucks futon; his bare feet stretched on his no fucks ottoman, reading perhaps How to Give No Fucks and Influence People or Chicken Soup for the Fuck-less Soul.

And while tears aren’t always a reliable measure of ones actual feelings about a subject, I have no doubt that the ones he shed at today’s press conference, where he introduced new gun control measures, were real. Violence is not a uniquely American problem. For a developed country, however, gun violence is uniquely American, and its something we all have at least a tangential connection to. If you happen to be a Black American, this tangential connection becomes sturdier. I have been personally affected by gun violence. I’ve had friends killed, cousins incarcerated, and a home shot into. And I imagine most reading this can say similar things. No one — not even a millionaire family with two Ivy League-grad parents and two private school-attending teenage daughters — is immune, and I’m certain our president is aware of this. And I’m also certain he’s aware, as many of us are, that the primary factor morphing perfunctory human agitation and conflict to the type of murder and mayhem we see today is the availability of guns.
Just my 2 cents ….I guess I can understand where Damon is trying to go and there are valid points made within the body of the post but I am having difficulty getting by the title of this piece because imho the title has got to be one of the most ridiculous and ignorant statements I have ever read. I know I could have just ignored this but felt compelled to say something. Because really… what would he call VPBiden’s tears?
Because I love hearing about Barack Obama in francais and because you can see Judith at the 10 second mark. :)

Still, this total racist idiot is going, so that is something.

Thank you Bob! Happy New Year to your and your family! I have not commented much, but I am always very appreciative of all the valuable information you share with us. Most importantly, I value your wise commentaries.
I too think about the Sandy Hook 1st graders and teachers. They would be 10yrs old now. I think of Christina Greene and all the folks killed and shot meeting Gabby Giffords. Christina would be in high school same age as my niece. I think of future kids who will be or could be killed in 2016 for no reason. I pray for PBO & FLOTUS may God prptect them from evil.
Before today's announcement, President talks with people who have been directly affected by gun violence. Gabby Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, are in background.
We are so blessed (and I don’t use this word lightly) to have President Barack Obama as our leader right now. This is a man who lives, loves, cares, thinks and acts from a place of love, compassion and right. I can’t imagine where we would be without him and Michelle in office for the past 8 years. Exceedingly grateful!
I was born two months after VP Truman became President following the death of FDR. I was 7 years when Gen. Dwight Eisenhower (IKE)was elected President, and 15 years when JFK was elected and 18 years when he was assassinated. I vaguely remember President Truman. Although I was young, I remember President Eisenhower because I started High School the year he left office. I’ve known 10 presidents (from JFK to BHO) since I turned 18years. And, as far as I am concerned, President Obama is the best President in my life time. I am so proud to have voted for him twice.
I’ve never voted for him - but was born 11 months after my father returned from WWII - and I remember the same Presidents, excluding Truman (no memory of him at all) - and PBO was/is the best President of my lifetime.
I don’t remember another FLOTUS showing such substance with her role/actions. We all thought Jackie Kennedy was delightful - but all I remember of her activities relate to her hats & the decoration of the White House.
Nath, we are very similar in age and memories about the presidents since FDR. And yes, for all their various talents, there is no one to match President Obama in the scope of his achievements, in his wisdom, compassion, global understanding and character. We have had the honor of living under a truly great leader for the last seven years and I will not only savor each remaining day with him as president, but treasure every single memory.
I remember wondering over and over why people vote against their own best interests and help promote the culture of the rich getting richer. The culture denigrating those that are in need.
There was a study about this according to NPR saying that people revert back to what they grew up learning and if they have been drinking they are more vulnerable to agree with class over equality.
True
Congrats on your afternoon gold, GG. These are more precious.
Thanks NCLB.
PBO is truly one of a kind.

Glad I missed that onion comment. Grrrr.
Thanks Chips, I’m listening to PBO again.
This President is something special.
Thank you, Mr. President.
Oops! I was left behind. Again.
Things are heating up against those anti-background check gun lovers.
Cuba?
He’s Canadian born. His Father is Cuban by birth.
Canadians don’t want him at all, trust me.
Cubans probably don’t want him either.
I am also sure of that. The guy is pathetic and needs to go away, out of sight.
Nikki Haley Will Deliver GOP Response To Obama’s State Of The Union
VP audition ?
I’m surprised they still do those, given how well they have gone in the past. LMAO
Nah - they want her out of politics
True. However, have seen LOTS of comments on our local TV posts saying he is a fake, had onions on the podium, etc. etc. These people are so filled with hate and envy and fear, they see nothing common sense in anything.
They got it direct from the Fox News idiot who ‘wondered’ about it and now the sheep brains take it as fact.
Adding: Someone challenge Andrea whatsherface to ask some of the bereaved family members behind the President if they can corroborate her obscenely imbecilic onion theory. Dare her to ask them.
I was there. The President’s tears were authentic. So were those of most of us in the room with him.
<3 JF <3
There were no onions anywhere here in my house, yet the tears flowed freely. Hearts were/are so full. Or should be, in a decent human being.
I totally believe the authenticity, Judith - I just want someone to take that idiot pundit to the woodshed for the comment!
Too bad you can’t go to Andrea Mitchell and chew her out for her insensitivity!
Only those with hard hearts would not cry at the thought of innocent children being maliciously gunned down.
Yes, this President is special. Because he ended with the story about Zebulon here in Knoxville, the TV stations Facebook pages have done a couple of posts with that part his speech. This can’t be seen enough:
He’s letting his emotions come to surface over these situations where he didn’t when they initially occurred. And this is causing some people to Lose Their Minds
He was very emotional speaking of the massacre at Newtown - both at the memorial there as well as when the bill failed in Congress.
Exactly. I never expect better from the right.
He shed tears during his first presser right after the incident.
And anyone still spewing the old crap about ‘taking guns’ is simply proving that they didn’t listen to a single, very clearly spoken word the President said today.
I dearly love this man.
Reminds me of those photos of Abraham Lincoln.
Yes, a suitable comparison.
I so love this man. We have been so blessed to have him looking out for all of us.
No truer words spoken.
And we still love our President. Would vote for him again if he could run again. He will be greatly missed.
HRC was right in Prologue and Epilogue.
Really? I’ve also heard some Rightwingers try to claim that the terrorist group’s recruitment video also featured Clinton and BLM which is a dang lie. ***rolls eyes***
This is too funny… but true.
The current Yahoos are not so good looking.
While we’re on the subject:
Dr. Rachel Maddow was right and was on this from the beginning.
Nothing like harming the children to save money. And they dare to call themselves pro life.
Maddow has done more on this story, nationally.
uh huh
uh huh
The least he could do considering that it was HIS actions THAT POISONED THE PEOPLE.
Every Single Day …. no matter the ugliness, the hugely damaging obstruction, the scale of the challenge ….. EVERY SINGLE DAY since 20 Jan 2025 ….

Wow, she is really getting slammed on twitter. Not ONE person stood with her comment.
And from the Queen…
THIS!!!
I tell you, when PBO plans a strategy, you better look out cuz he’s gonna be hitting from all sides!
He never skips a beat, never fails us. Comprehensive long-term strategy with clear goals. THE BEST.
THISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

Wow. Bless you Judith for your hard work. What an amazing and emotional day.
Emotions were etched on every face, not just President Obama’s. He gave the tipping point on gun sense a very firm push.
Proud to “know” you, Judith. And thank you.
:)
You are a great and dedicated volunteer, jf. The very antidote to teabagging nutsos.
I so appreciate hearing that, AMK. I try…

It’s been well-documented here that President Obama is firmly and fully ensconced in the fuck devoid span of his presidency. good, all senior dems are on the same page.
Congrats GGail on your Gold :star:
GOP would stop PBO from writing even one Executive Order if they could.
That’s because they refuse to acknowledge the legitimacy of his tenure. In their warped, racist minds, he can’t be a real president with broad executive powers.
More attacks come from the media than the GOP - The 24×7 continual lies from the media about PBO are causing serious harm to the United States - not to mention what the outside world is thinking.
I agree. The role of the media in their hatred for President Obama is unprecedented.
Exactly. For a two-term President, he’s been very measured in issuing Executive Orders.
I am thankful there are people, and especially people here at TOD, who refuse to allow Obama haters to re-write history.
I noticed that it only has Barack Obama’s is for four years and 11 months . Still very low..

Thanks, Really ;) , Thanks, Pres Obama!
wasn’t rattner whining something about auto recovery just a few months back?
He was standing behind our POTUS today:
I just lose it when I see these images ….
Me, too, Bob. Me, too.
OMG.
Have written many letters, made many calls …..
And, I will not stop trying …
Please never stop trying to offer common sense solutions.
Happy New Year friend - to you and your wonderful family.
Never fear, nath. I will not stop.
Thank you Bob! Happy New Year to your and your family! I have not commented much, but I am always very appreciative of all the valuable information you share with us. Most importantly, I value your wise commentaries.
Beautiful introduction to PBO today:
I too think about the Sandy Hook 1st graders and teachers. They would be 10yrs old now. I think of Christina Greene and all the folks killed and shot meeting Gabby Giffords. Christina would be in high school same age as my niece. I think of future kids who will be or could be killed in 2016 for no reason. I pray for PBO & FLOTUS may God prptect them from evil.
I am with you on this Jojo. I thought of them all as well, especially Christine Greene.

99ts, we are the same age group! I am glad you broughout FLOTUS, Michelle Obama. I agree with everything you wrote about her.
I call us the “real” baby boomers :)
JackieG, as always, you said so well everything I was thinking about. Like you, I am determined to “savor each remaining day” of President Obama.
