    Good Sunday Morning, Chipsticks…TOD Family!

    Congrats on first, GGail! 🙂

    Everyone enjoy your day.

  2. January 3, 2016 at 11:35 am

    And the people who occupy the Fed building in Oregon are showing why gun control is a great idea. If only sane people had guns, that mess wouldn’t be able to get a water gun permit.

    Sorry everybody about that messed up paragraph in the last thread. Mozilla Firefox has become nearly impossible to use anymore, so I’m going with a portable, few extensions Chrome now so that I don’t double post waiting for a cut and paste to show up. Chips, please delete or edit that post.

    brought from previous thread

    They’ve been angry since January 20, 2009

    ……………

    Poll: Republicans angrier than Democrats

    January 03, 2016, 09:00 am

    More than three quarters of Republicans, 77 percent, said they now get angry at least once a day, compared with 67 percent of Democrats.

    White Americans are also angrier than African Americans and Latinos, pollsters found.

    Fifty four percent of whites said they find themselves feeling angrier more often about current events. Thirty three percent of African Americans said the same thing, as did 43 percent of Latinos.

    Pollster said there is a strong correlation between a high degree of anger and “the sense that the U.S. is no longer the most powerful country in the world; that the American dream is dead; that the gap between the rich and poor is widening; and that one’s life didn’t turn out as well as one had imagined when they were younger.”

    http://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/264600-poll-republicans-angrier-than-democrats

    • January 3, 2016 at 4:00 pm

      Were people asked these questions when any other president was in office? A republican pollster said repulicans would be happy if Bill Clinton were president right now, because he knew how to govern. So this is what it’s all about — president Obama. The GOP trying to dismiss everything accomplished by this president by playing the angry card. And Bernie Sanders playing into it to overcome the lack of minority support. These people are the same angry people who supported McCain and Palin. What were they angry about then, BHO becoming president. The MSM loves to jump on any sick story line without analysis of the root cause.

      The U.S. media is both useless and dishonest. They are useless because they all about sensationalism and peddling fear. They are dishonest because they are the ones who relentlessly push negative news and manufactured GOP lies about President Obama. Without any hint of shame, they then turn around and poll people after they’ve fed them lies and constant negativity. What is really remarkable is that a great many Americans still love and respect President Obama.

    President Obama said this year he will be leaving it all on the road. I can hardly wait.

    “PBO is beginning as he means to go on,” as a British saying goes.
    This week—-gun regulation. Appearance on Anderson Cooper for a Town Hall! An hour! In Prime Time!

    Next week I predict the 17 detainees will be released from Guantanamo reducing the number still incarcerated there to 90. The President set “under 100” as the target for an announcement of his plan.

    Pretty hot start, don’t you agree?

        President Obama in his own words. MSM weeps.
        But there will be competition to host POTUS. So I won’t be surprised to see a prime time appearance on lots of other channels in the coming months. This is going to be delicious.

  12. January 3, 2016 at 12:09 pm

    The new and revised paragraphs:

    Now for the idiots taking over the Federal Wildlife Refuge in Oregon. I agree with everybody who says let them starve and freeze-if they want to die, let it be from hunger and cold (it’s 13 degrees with wind chill) as they turn off the power supply and shut off the water. Hopefully as they start to feel frostbite and thirst, they may rethink this needless stand. Unfortunately, I don’t think they have thought this through enough. In a shootout with the Feds, there is only one winner-and it’s not them. And the Feds can certainly wait them out-they’ll be well supplied, rotate watchers and perimiter standers if they decide that’s the better choice. Nothing like that for the domestic terrorists. I doubt if many people will be coming to join them in 13 degree weather, with the prospect of armed Federal Guards blocking off the one road leading to the complex.

    Their resentment of the BLM and the Federal Govt is steadily backfiring on them. The Federal Monuments and Wildlife Refuges create jobs that are steady and can’t be outsourced, unlike increasingly the mining and oil jobs. Tourism is going to be there always, along with the natural beauty and the decent land values that exist becaue there’s no threat of developers.

    The Bundys are also stupid in another way. It’s the Federal ownership and Federal rights that enables them to keep ranching now. Left to the states that can be pressured into making deals, any land would be subject to bidders for anything-and those bidders may not care about things like water management or soil health-or the Bundy claims.

        • January 3, 2016 at 1:34 pm

          Roger that pf58.

          Give them ZERO access to any form of communication except waving a white flag when they want to surrender.

          And, until they surrender, no food, water or electricity and if they step outside with anything other than a white flag, soak them with a fire hose.

          But, under NO circumstance, use force against them unless they come out shooting. And, if they do that, launch a few stun grenades and have skilled snipers shoot’um in the groin with rubber bullets, i.e., NO MARTYRS and nothing that remotely looks like that Waco Branch Davidian fiasco.

          • January 3, 2016 at 1:37 pm

            from your lips to they ears of whoever is in charge…by the way …do you know who is in charge of this situation

            • 42 arapaho415
              January 3, 2016 at 2:21 pm

              Agree with everyone here that there should be no martyrs from the desperate situation.

              From the article:
              “‘A collective effort from multiple agencies is currently working on a solution,” said Sheriff Ward said in his statement Saturday night.”

              Law enforcement is on the same page as TODville:
              “Law enforcement agencies appeared to be taking a low-key approach Sunday toward a group of armed men who have seized control of a federal wildlife refuge headquarters in southern Oregon, protesting the federal prosecution of two ranchers.”

              And here’s the GOP/Koch connection — the public must make it known that we don’t want our cherished public venues sold to those who will devastate the landscape for the sake of money in their own pockets.
              “The movement has picked up steam in recent years, led by Utah legislator Ken Ivory, who helms a national organization called the American Lands Council that tries to convince county and state governments to pursue the ownership of federal lands. A watchdog group has accused him of fraud in three states for his use of taxpayer dollars.”

    BTW, a question to be asked now that the end is near: What happens to this blog after 1/20/2017? Obviously after the first burst of stuff, there won’t be a lot of daily news anymore. So then what? The Obama Journal (a quarterly)?

    I’m just catching up on the Oregon situation, but it seems like the judge who imposed the initial sentences for the Hammond father and son, made a grave mistake that is coming back to haunt the Federal government…

    Dwight Hammond, 73, and Steven Hammond, 46, said they lit the fires in 2001 and 2006 to reduce the growth of invasive plants and protect their property from wildfires. He said he feels his upcoming prison term is a life sentence.

    “I’m not very happy about that. Just don’t know what to say,” Hammond said. “It just seems like a little overreach for having burned 127 acres.”

    The two were convicted of the arsons three years ago and served time – the father three months, the son one year. But a judge ruled their terms were too short under federal law and ordered them back to prison for about four years each.

    The decision has generated controversy in a remote part of the state.

    In particular, the Hammonds’ new sentences touched a nerve with far right groups who repudiate federal authority.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/oregon-ranchers-reject-cliven-bundy-family-occupation/

    And it seems the Bundy idiot’s have taken advantage of this sentencing.

        Don, the article makes for good reading, wouldn’t you agree?
        The Hammonds, start a fire on Federal land.
        The Hammonds are sentenced for their crime.
        A federal judge later decides the sentences were too lenient, so they are given longer sentences.
        The Hammonds hold a protest rally.
        This incited the Bundy gang
        And here we are folks…

        • 62 zekke Lydonna
          January 3, 2016 at 8:33 pm

          The Judge did not use the minimum sentencing requirements. Therefore, the sentence was ‘illegal’.

        January 3, 2016 at 2:55 pm

        Their “little fire” endangered the lives of some hunters & also some forest firefighters who were taking a short rest in the area. Also, I read that they set the fire to cover illegal hunting on Federal land. The Hammonds can take several seats & stop whining! Just saying…

          Exactly, Aquagranny! As always, you speak TRUTH! These people should be held accountable for starting the fires to cover up their “illegal hunting on federal land.” They indeed “endangered the lives of some hunters and…some …firefighters….” I enthusiastically applaud the Federal Judge who gave them appropriate sentences to fit their heinous crime. I have zero sympathy with the Hammonds! More importantly, the media (as well as many of us here) must stop legitimizing these white supremacists terrorists by calling them “Militias.”

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/n-powerball-winner-boyfriend-posts-12m-bond-article-1.2483060

    A North Carolina Powerball winner’s boyfriend posted a $12 million bond Friday in his fourth time getting bailed out since her jackpot, according to reports.

    Lamar (Hot Sauce) McDow, 31, is accused of arranging a street race Saturday, and police said he was arrested Tuesday for violating the terms of his pre-trial release on earlier charges, WECT-TV reported.

    McDow’s live-in girlfriend, Shallote resident Marie Holmes, collected an $88 million lump sum payment after taxes for winning a $188 million jackpot in February. Her beau walked free on a $3 million bond weeks later and got out of jail on a $6 million bond in August.

    oh, the irony of ironies:

    => if you are arrested and convicted for a crime (oh, let me say, the crime of breaking into and occupying federal property), then don’t you automatically loose the right to own and buy an gun?

      Surely there’s a good guy with a gun that wants to end this foolishness?

        every day, I am reminded of why I PBO is a better person than I will ever be => these scumbags want notoriety and if possible martyrdom and he is not giving it to them;

        we all know who has the upper hand if push came to shove and the numbers needed to change the calculus are not too high

      They would not pass PBO’s new background checks EO. So would their guns be confiscated?

    http://heavy.com/news/2016/01/dwight-steven-hammond-oregon-ranchers-protest-prison-arson-fire-land-charges-sentences-age-bundy-armed-militia-judge-photos-family/

    The fires were set on land managed by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The Hammonds leased grazing rights for the property from the BLM.

    According to prosecutors the 2001 fire was located in the Steens Mountain Cooperative Management and Protection Area. The U.s. Attorney’s Office said:

    Witnesses at trial, including a relative of the Hammonds, testified the arson occurred shortly after Steven Hammond and his hunting party illegally slaughtered several deer on BLM property. Jurors were told that Steven Hammond handed out ‘Strike Anywhere’ matches with instructions that they be lit and dropped on the ground because they were going to ‘light up the whole country on fire.’ One witness testified that he barely escaped the eight to ten foot high flames caused by the arson. The fire consumed 139 acres of public land and destroyed all evidence of the game violations. After committing the arson, Steven Hammond called the BLM office in Burns, Oregon and claimed the fire was started on Hammond property to burn off invasive species and had inadvertently burned onto public lands. Dwight and Steven Hammond told one of their relatives to keep his mouth shut and that nobody needed to know about the fire.

    Steven Hammond was convicted in the 2006 arson, which occurred in the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge:

    There’s more at the link. They all need to be in prison.

      “After committing the arson, Steven Hammond called the BLM office in Burns, Oregon and claimed the fire was started on Hammond property to burn off invasive species and had inadvertently burned onto public lands.” Oh ok, no problem, sometimes when you set stuff on fire science has a way of taking over. Well no harm no foul.

        Just because I burn down my house DOES NOT make it right or LAWFUL, ask me that if my house I am burning is next to yours and your house ‘just happens’ to catch on fire too. Not my fault you say? It’s my neighbor’s fault he didn’t have fire insurance……OK.

        GA GCL.

        See upthread response to PF58.

        Iran has arrested dozens for the arson of the Saudi Embassy.

        If the situation hasn’t calmed down by the end of this month, when Syrian peace talks begin, look for another item on John Kerry’s very full plate.😦

          I don’t know the order in which these two events occurred =>

          (a) the arrest of the Iranian people involved in the Saudi Embassy burning and;

          (b) the decree that all Iranian diplomats leave SA;

          I got the impression that the arrest were announced a little earlier so that is why I am concerned that this appears not be sufficient and that diplomats are asked to leave SA;

          at the very least, I would have expected the Iranian Ambassador to SA to be summoned to discuss the course of farther action;

          I am afraid, your predictions for SoS Kerry may be in the future

            Yes, my sense of the timing of announcements is the same as yours.

            MSM tweets on this topic are freaking out. I guess my ignorance is on display, because I don’t see why this is so alarming, since Saudi and Iran will always be at odds at one another.

      and with all of this…Saudis seek to scuttle the beginnings of the UN political agreement in Syria…if Assad is dethroned …and there is an end to the civil war in Syria….Isis loses…but you know who else loses …the Saudis…

    are people determined to fight to the last person?

    a few hours ago, the headlines were that Afghanistan specials and Indian protective services were engaged in a gun battle with militants that had attacked the Indian diplomatic facility (Consulate?) in Mazar al Sharif;

    last I read sporadic gun shots were still being exchanged
