    there are some “leaders” of countries who simply won’t let the world breath for even a week without them disrupting the peace in major way;

    whether most beltway people and gop putin-admirers have said it or not, putin seem to have been boxed into a corner from which he can’t make so much pompus pronouncements;

    during the last few weeks reports indicate that there is some very notable progress against ISIL and it appears that there is some level of disarray within ISIL’s ranks;

    but just when the world seems to be joining together to make ISIL history, some “leaders” in the turbulent Middle East region appear to want to take over the headlines;

    I don’t know how PBO puts up with all this grandstanding;

    I am just glad that the heightened tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia are making the headlines just when his vacation is coming to an end.

    as for the “leaders” of Turkey and Syria ……, I will leave my thoughts in my head for now

    Woman host on CNN mentions something about President Obama … “in order not to be a lame duck President, and to get his way on gun control, when Congress won’t act.” No, how about “in order to do all he can by executive action for our country,” most of which smart Americans are totally in favor of, relating to gun control, and how about “when the Republican Congress won’t act because RWNJs have sought to sabotage his every move since day one of his first term, and have their hands out for more backing from the NRA.” She’s reading all this from her teleprompter. Anybody remember the old “news” reporters on SNL? This mess is why the following one-liner from that show is still relevant today:

    “Jane, you miserable slut.”

    (Was really frosted when I started to write this, but made myself laugh at the end. All’s well that ends well.)

      GE, Good 2016 to you and your amazing family, JO’B.

      Yep, what this country needs now is MORE guns, more open carry, more “militia” laying siege on National Wildlife Sanctuaries (see downthread). Not.

      Agree that the original SNL cast had some of the funniest skits, “cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheeseburger, fries” — which isn’t funny by itself, but was funny when delivered by John Belushi.

      And the coneheads… “we’re from France”… LOL.

      January 2, 2016 at 9:32 pm

      So what’s next? These Bundy insurrectionists have to be stopped. If they get away with occupying government buildings and stealing government property then any semblance to a rule of law disappears. These people are advocating anarchy. ‘If you want something, just take it’ is not a workable premise for any society.

            Absolutely. I agree with your comment above. They think they are above the law and that the federal govt can’t tell them what to do…they prefer anarchy. They should be prepared to go to jail and be charged as the domestic terrorists they are!

          • 75 nathkatun7
            January 3, 2016 at 12:21 am

            Yes indeed! Moreover, the U.S. Constitution clearly prohibits “domestic insurrections.” Advocating violent rebellion against the government of the United States is treason!

    • 76 arapaho415
      January 2, 2016 at 9:25 pm

      Still more…

    • January 3, 2016 at 2:38 am

      Reporters and tweeters should stop legitimizing a bunch of domestic terrorists by calling them “militia.” Historically, and according to the U.S. Constitution, militia are organized and called into action either by the federal government or by state government. Here are the provisions in the U.S. Constitution that apply to “militias”:

      1. ARTICLE I, sect 8, paragraph 15.

      The Congress shall have the power…. To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions.

      2. ARTICLE I, sect. 8, paragraph 16.

      The Congress shall have the power…To provide for ORGANIZING, ARMING, and DISCIPLINING the Militia, and for governing such a part of them as may be employed in the service of the United States, reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers and the authority of TRAINING the MILITIA ACCORDING TO THE DISCIPLINE prescribed by Congress.

      3. ARTICLE II, Section 2.

      The President shall be the commander in chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and OF THE MILITIAS of the several States, when called into the ACTUAL Service of the United States….

      Clearly then, domestic terrorists groups, claiming to be militias, are illegitimate and do not have the right to impersonate real militias. The media, as well as all of us, are helping to legitimize these terrorists by calling them “Militias.”

    • 82 arapaho415
      January 2, 2016 at 10:25 pm

      Article says that local law enforcement and FBI are involved.

      Both of the buildings were vacant at the time the “militia” set up camp on federal land.

      Let’s hope this doesn’t turn into another Waco (without the young victims in that event), because #RubyRidge and #Waco are both rallying cries for RWNJs who have elaborate conspiracy theories which place all blame on Eric Holder and which they proclaim as fact (I know this because last year I was in line behind a man who was practically yelling his “knowledge” that #RubyRidge was all Eric Holder’s fault to the person next to him).

      • January 2, 2016 at 11:07 pm

        I’ve been there. It’s the headquarters for the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in a remote area of Eastern Oregon. The staff are gone for the weekend holiday no doubt. But this is a federal govt. building, seized by force of arms. It’s a federal offense and hopefully some people are going to prison over this.

    given that the bundy militia are occupying a federal building, what branch of federal law enforcement would have the primary responsibility of flushing them out?

    is it the FBI or the US Marshall Service?

    I take it that PBO can’t authorize a branch of the US military …. or can he ?

    can this be a case where a POTUS can federalize part of the Oregon National Guard and deploy them?

    what would be the role of the state and local police forces;

    it has been clear for a while now that there is a section of this country that is itching for a fight with some agents of the Federal government as long as it is headed by a black President;

    I suspect that their goal is to make all the conspiracy theories they have conjured up about PBO to come through if and when he moves against them;

    PBO has been very patient with these scumbags so I don’t know what he will choose to do with them as they keep pushing his buttons

          GE PF58.

          It’s definitely a federal offense (see BillR upthread).

          It’s dark now, doubt any action will take place tonight.

          Think the feds will take the action that idon suggested…
          “There’s lost that can be done to dissuade them from the crazy. Turning off the water so they can’t use the toilets, no lights, no heat, etc.”

          And to BillR’s point (remote location) above:

          • January 3, 2016 at 12:25 am

            The Burns school district have shut down the schools for the week because of the militia danger there. These are not locals, they are the Bundy group. About half the people in the county work for the fed. govt. so they aren’t anti-govt. in Burns.

    Yes, I’m watching the Bundy militia nuts in Oregon.
    Let’s let that one shake out for a day or so, see what happens. Right now, it’s just a bunch of sorry little nuts who’ve locked themselves in an empty building. That’s a good place for them, they can’t hurt anybody but themselves.

      What’s odd to me is that Burns OR is reacting this way (I think it’s about 50 miles from the wildlife refuge):

      • January 3, 2016 at 12:28 am

        The militia congregated in Burns and took part in the protest, then part of them took off for the Refuge. Burns is the only town in the area. This is one of the least populated areas in Oregon and the US.

        “Militia update”? These are nothing but domestic terrorists! Militias are called into action, either by a governor or th president, to put down domestic insurrections like this one.

    • 122 arapaho415
      January 3, 2016 at 12:23 am

      And of course during on an ongoing situation, it’s hard to tell what is fact vs. hearsay (i.e., stenography for the spokesman), but there’s this. (Doubt there will be any further developments tonight — it’s so isolated so there’s no danger to folks in the surrounding region, and it’s desert so there’s no daylight visibility problem like there is in a forested area. Don’t know what the weather is like there now, but areas east of coastal mountains on the west coast receive little rainfall [i.e., desert].)

      • January 3, 2016 at 12:31 am

        Some of the militia people have been in Burns patrolling with their firearms with a show of force. There are employees who live on the Refuge, govt. employees who are most definitely in danger. I’ve been to this Refuge and their are many families who live out there.

    Just gasping at the language used in this piece: ‘ A peaceful protest Saturday in support of an eastern Oregon ranching family facing jail time for arson was followed shortly afterward by an occupation of a building at a national wildlife refuge. ‘

    Could they make it sound any more benign and jolly? So peaceful and supportive, just a ranching family, you know. And the passive construction: ‘ was followed shortly afterward by an occupation’. How pleasant it sounds!

    Let’s not get ruffled and over-react! No armed terrorists here! It’s just that the judge’s sentencing ‘ touched a nerve with far right groups who repudiate federal authority. ‘
