THANK YOU FOR INCLUDING ME IN YOUR WORD CLOUD……………….I AM STILL AWE STRUCK BY THE AMAZING GRACE VIDEO ON THE PREVIOUS THREAD……………………..THANKYOU LORD FOR THE SAFETY OF AMERICANS OVER THE NEW YEAR…PLEASE PROTECT OUR PRESIDENT AND HIS FAMILY…PLEASE ORDER A CASELOT OF KLEENEX FOR ME!…MAY OUR PRECIOUS LORD BLESS AND HOLD EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU IN THIS COMING YEAR!
Once again, I want to thank you for this wonderful, beautiful and informative site. I hope this site is in the cloud, on a dozen flash drives, 2 dozen hard drives and has been copyrighted. I know of no other place on the internet which contains a historical account of President Obama in pictures and words as does TOD. Saying “thank you” is so inadequate in my attempt to express how much I appreciate what you have created here. Bless you and have a wonderful New Year.
Happy new year Chipsticks and TODers!!!!!! So happy that Chips kept this blog going for 8 years!!! 😳😍 I’m looking forward to POTUS having a wonderful 2016.
I see that Al believes that Martin O’Malley is going to be the dark horse dem nominee. I give him all the credit in the world for being one of the first to predict Barack Obama as the nominee but I think he is going to be 1-2.
Happy New Year to Chips and all TODers especially Nerdy. I lurk here everyday and read every word of every comment. I wish everyone a healthy, happy and prosperous 2016.
As I return to lurking, I wave to all of you from sunny Trinidad & Tobago.
What an amazing face Lincoln had! I wonder if Mary Lincoln cut his hair or if he did it himself? It looks as if his eyes were hazel. I wonder if anyone ever recorded that
Here’s my annual New Year’s Day anecdote. After all the rich dinners, pies, cookies, candies and indulgence of the Christmas holiday season, one mom (not mine) traditionally served bowls of plain beans on New Year’s Day. She said, “time to stop celebrating and get working.” Today’s the day we traditionally take down the decorations, inside and out and start the boring task of putting them away. The party’s over, now comes the work of a long election year.
Jackie, I always take my decorations down on NYD too. I bought a 4′ outdoor prelit tree last year and put on bright colored plastic balls and silver rope. I placed it in my garage with a big black garbage bag over it to store. This year I down scaled my decorations due to having had hip surgery. I just took out the tree already decorated to use in my house- so easy. I wrapped it decorated in plastic wrap this year for next.
I always read the blog each day, but when I do post I am behind the thread. Guess that explains my name not being in the word cloud.
Yet another new book on Abraham Lincoln tenders a novel supposition (It would have to, wouldn’t it, to see the light of day?). The authors of A Just and Generous Nation: Abraham Lincoln and the Fight for American Opportunity argue that the Civil War was not fought over slavery or to preserve the union per se, that these causa belli “fall short” of fully explaining the bloodiest war in American history.
Their proposition is, in essence, that it was about the economy, stupid (apologies to James Carville, who coined the phrase): that Lincoln saw the struggle as being between two diametrically opposed economic and social systems – that if the South won it would prove fatal to the American dream of an upwardly mobile, progressive, and middle class nation.
The authors state their case in the introduction: “What Lincoln feared most was the spread of the Southern economic system. The fear was that the Southern slave-labor system would drive out free labor, first in the West, then later in the country as a whole.” Lincoln, they maintain, felt that slavery wasn’t only bad for the enslaved, but was also harmful to free white laborers as they strove to improve their lot.
So in these authors’ eyes the Civil War wasn’t about slavery per se, but about the socioeconomic challenges that both the North and the South faced? So Joe Pesci’s character Nicky Santoro in “Casino” was right all along when he said “The dollars, always about the dollars.”
2016 is starting just right imo :):) two of my cats have been very sick since the 27th… pretty sure they picked up the ‘virus’ our little rescue had when she came to us so ill- even though she was separated from them the first month. Anyway have been force feeding/watering- pedialyting my two, 24 hrs a day… and today my 9 yr old Tiger ate on his own like a champ.. our 5 yr old Shade is not quite there yet.. but both of them got up and walked a bit this morning! So Yay to 2016 and all the powers that be that look kindly upon my feline loves :)
The IRONY of tweeting about someone/something first thing in the morning (and on New Year’s Day no less), and declaring that it will be a challenge for them to stay relevant…
@ReutersPolitics YET, he is the first thing you tweet about at 6AM Jan 1st 2016, so his staying relevant clearly won't be an issue….

Thank you for posting this Hope fruit. Every day I am astounded by the brilliance and kindness and hopefulness of this man. Thank you Mr. President for everything you do for this country and for the world.
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL…ON THE FLOOR HERE!…WILL NEVER FORGET THE SNL DUPLICATE!…RIGHT ON!…YOU KNEEL BEFORE JESUS BABY…AS LOW AS YOU CAN GO…YOU WILL NEVER BE WORTHY TO STAND AS HIS RIGHTEOUS EQUAL!..MANY EVANGELICALS MAKE THAT MISTAKE AND WRITE THEIR OWN VERSIONS OF THE BIBLE.
It may not be the kind of place you would expect to stumble upon a mosque, but Muslims have lived among the forests and lakes of Lithuania for more than 600 years - showing that tolerance reigned here in the Middle Ages, even when religious strife was rampant in other parts of Europe.
At first glance, the square, wooden building looks like thousands seen in villages all over the Baltic. Neat timber slats, wood-framed windows, a tin roof.
But at the apex of the roof, instead of a point there is a small glass turret, topped with an onion dome of the kind you might see on a local church. Then, on top of the onion, stands a small crescent.
This is the most European-looking mosque you will ever come across.
If it looks completely at home in this northern European setting, that’s because a mosque has stood here, roughly 20 minutes’ drive south-west of the Lithuanian capital, Vilnius, since 1558.
Amk’s word cloud fixed
FURST. AND YER BANNED.
Next time, warn me I’ll need a magnifying glass to spot myself in your word clouds

Just received this book in the mail the other day..

I saw it more as “in addition to” rather than “instead of”… I’ll let you know after I read it:)
The Tournament of Roses Parade is about to begin!!!!👯👯👯
Ha, GGail, when I was about 8, I was in that parade :) a million years ago.. but we so loved that parade every year growing up.

Good Morning, and Happy New Year, Everyone :)
I would not be alive if I had done this as a child:
Doing that couldn’t have even been a THOUGHT! Oh, man….
The IRONY of tweeting about someone/something first thing in the morning (and on New Year’s Day no less), and declaring that it will be a challenge for them to stay relevant…
ods is incurable.
