      ((( DF )))

      Being sick is the pits.

May be too late, but sucking on zinc lozenges works for me — I reach for them at the first sign (dripping nose, sore throat). Use GNC brand which is pretty expensive, but works for me. (Don’t know if Rite Aid (former Thriftys here) carries GNC anymore — there’s been such a consolidation in drug stores in my neck of the woods — all the ones I used to frequent have been replaced by CVS :( ).

Why the need to go negative if you are surging in the polls like all his supporters want us to believe?. According to them he has a gazillion million supporters coming out to his rallies so he’s suppose to blow her away on Monday night. I guess we’ll know for sure on Monday night.

Yeah, well. That guy I was listening to Tuesday night from DFA (Howard Dean’s organization) was really walking back Bernie’s “walking away” in Iowa……..thinks it will be close…….the ‘possibility’ is there, but we are trying to be cautious, blah, blah, blah.

      January 28, 2025 at 9:44 am

Call me crazy, but Bernie has been making snide comments for ages, and his staff has done a good deal of dirty work. Only the MSM decides what they think is true and keep repeating it, despite facts.

And was it Bernie directly or someone from the campaign that whined about Pelosi yesterday, being just a regular “establishment” politician?

Does he have a clue how government works? PBO bent over backwards for every Democratic a** and they still ran from him. Who does Bernie think is going to do his bidding, if he keeps dissing Dems and is only using the party as a stepping stone?

Disliking him more and more every day.

      • 30 swbluega
        January 28, 2025 at 9:56 am

If his record is any indication, apparently, he doesn’t work well with others as it is. Should we expect someone who seems to be pretty set in their ways to be any different if elected POTUS?

One thing I wish the Democratic candidates — all of them — would do is to set the tone so that if they are not the nominee, their supporters could *readily* transition to support the nominee without resentment and/or extreme reluctance. This way of tearing down the other candidates to make yourself stand out…especially the personal attacks and statements based on little or no fact … makes party unity difficult for some. It practically encourages the pouters to be defiant and stay home.

        • 31 57andfemale
          January 28, 2025 at 10:26 am

Hillary is being far more gracious than I ever thought possible, so I’m hopeful. These polls showing Bernie “beating” GOP better than Hillary are a direct result of his supporters taking their baseball bats and going home. And remember, Bernie does not support, has never supported the Democratic Party in any way. I read an article from a journalist who has covered him for 25 years - he wouldn’t even help Progressive Party candidates in VT get elected! This “I’m only a Dem because it’s convenient now” attitude is what made me start taking a critical look at who Sanders really is.

Here’s what really scares me: he means it when he invokes “revolution”. His surrogate, Thom Hartmann, makes it perfectly clear that he (Thom, and I believe Bernie as well) think that a total collapse and upheaval would be good. We could re-build “utopia”.

Now, who is to say the total destruction is going to magically be rebuilt as utopia? Could it not also mean (and I believe more possible) that chaos would bring out the worst in everyone, and we would lose forever this delicate balance of stability that America has fostered?

I don’t think Bernie will give a damn if Trump becomes POTUS. Tear the whole thing down. It’s Nader on steroids, and it frightens me.

You’re not crazy.. berni talks out of both sides of his mouth. Says he’s not going negative and then compares Hillary’s FP to dickdarthcheney. Accuses HRC and PP of being #establishment.. and that’s a couple things.. he’s always taking cheap pot shots.

        When he reneges he reneges!

Love to know what President Obama said to him yesterday.

          January 28, 2025 at 12:01 pm

He gets to flip flop but when his opponent does it (or “evolves” as situations and information changes), it’s “lack of character and principle.”

Don’t paint yourself as the non-politician when that’s all you are. At least the vast majority of other politicians help their institution, build their members. Bernie is above it all. He would be a disastrous POTUS. If you would have told me a year ago that I hope Hillary would kick his ass and do it early, I would have told you you were insane. But here we are.

On the great orange site a real hero who has been developing stats on ACA enrollments for years, referenced by Krugman, etc. etc. and kept us sane while the ACA opened and we waited to see if enough people would join to keep it going, has written a piece talking about how he has been attacked (Tea Party style) by site regulars because he had the gaul to prefer Clinton’s health care proposal to Sanders’. He listed some comments as examples just to demonstrate what has been happening to him. I think if right wing posters are trying to prop up Sanders at Clinton’s expense which would be fully possible, this will only backfire. Liberals don’t react like lemmings. That’s why GOTV and unity is such an issue for us. Try to attack people we trust like our grassroots activists and our FLOTUS and it just won’t make us turn on Clinton. We’ll turn on you. Big time.

I’ve been following Charles Gaba - ACAsignups and the b.s. he’s had to put up with. And Krugman. There was some progressive radio host who pulled his show because he couldn’t take the attacks anymore.

I am hoping that these maniacs have an inflated presence on social media and not out in the real world.

The 2 screws sticking out the wall are for screwing on the towel bars: 1 remove the wooden knobs (flat screwdriver and prying) unscrew nuts that are usually behind these take off wall. If not reusing the spot fill holes with putty (found at your friendly hardware store, just explain they will know and guide you right).

The circular thingy is for hand towels not toilet paper unless without the stiffening cardboard in the centre toilet paper is now real flexible.

Ignore the instructions for replacing toilet seat, simply put your hand to the side and under toilet bowl where screw should be, unscrew the nut on either side take up old seat, place new screws in new cover place screws in holes, screw new nuts on bottom as tight as you can, use flat screwdriver tighten screw on top, close cover and presto as simple as ever takes 5 minutes. I did mine on the weekend.

Final piece of advise, visit your friendly hardware store often and ask questions even if you are not buying anything tell them you are planning to renovate and you are looking, you will get lots of info on what to do, how to fix and when you really have a problem you will be able to fix it yourself. I bought my first house in 1982 and I can do basic plumbing and a bit of maintenance..all electrical stuff should be left to the experts you don’t want anyone planning your funeral before you’re ready to leave…Happy fixing

Agree 10000%. Used to spend a lot of time in hardware stores, especially ones that have been around a very long time. They don’t throw anything away and you can find something that is 30+ years ago that was in stock. I could spend hours just looking at what is out there now.

No. Obama’s victory has been mythologized. Momentum played one factor, but there were many others.

In August 2007 PPP had Obama and Clinton tied in South Carolina (33 to 36). He always had footing and foundation in SC & it only grew during the fall. In contract, in September 2015 Clinton was beating Sanders 54-9.

Blacks were naturally going to flock to Obama, the same way Irish & Catholics flocked to Kennedy. This allowed Obama to sweep 8 of 10 southern states (Florida’s vote was set aside).

Similar conditions don’t exist for Sanders.

Additionally 2008 was a 3 person race btwn Clinton and 2 ABCs (Obama and Edwards). Edwards got 17% of the vote in NH and SC. When he dropped out most of it went to Obama. Sanders doesn’t stand to inherit a big chunk of voters when O’Malley drops out.

Obama had Ted Kennedy and Caroline Kennedy and a large chunk of Dems supporting him (Holder, Rice, Power, Zbigniew, Kerry, Carter), plus a shit load of former military. And he had Oprahpalooza.

Sanders doesn’t have that well to draw on.

Obama had an ingenuous guerrilla campaign and top notch operatives in Axelrod & Plouffe & Anita Dunn.

Sanders’s campaign manager Jeff Weaver runs a comic book store.

So Sanders will get a ton of positive coverage after IA & NH but the foundation, conditions, and demographics are not there to build victories in southern and non-populist states.

No one knows business branding better than Donald Trump does. But now his brand is becoming an issue as companies are starting to wrestle with whether associating with a Trump-led Republican National Convention in Cleveland this summer could hurt their own reputations.

Company representatives and association heads have already begun huddling with their D.C.-based consultants about whether they should rethink their convention plans if Trump wins the GOP nomination. Several Republican lobbyists and consultants said there is concern that associating with the real estate mogul — given some of his inflammatory comments about women and minorities — could turn off customers and damage corporate brands.

“If it is him, many will scale down activity,” said one Republican lobbyist who has held conference calls about the so-called Trump factor.

I got the news while I was in my classroom with my 11th grade language Arts students. This hit us especially hard because the name of the high school where I taught for 28 years, Edward H. White, after the first astronaut to walk in space who later died tragically in a fire on a launch pad. The names of the hallways and meeting areas to this day have names from the space program. I have been a space junkie/nerd for most of my life: I kept scrapbooks of all of the Gemini and Apollo flights and was 15 when I witnessed the moon landing. For me, the space program models so much about our national character; the can do attitude, the youthful chance-taking spirit, the curiosity of always wanting to know what is beyond our shores, just over the mountains and into the skies; the craziness that it takes to do the whole thing; the genius of the scientists and the engineers who thought, “Of course, we can build this,” and most of all a leader (JFK) who set the goal and another (LBJ) who carried on the dream and made it a priority. We were also especially saddened because the first teacher to go into space was killed along with the rest of the crew.
