This is on CSPAN-3. This should be televised to all Americans who feel the GOP has family values and fiscal conservatives all lies. Gov Snyder should be front and center testifying. These R fuckers want to blame the EPA.

    • February 3, 2016 at 12:23 pm

Jojo, I’ve been watching this Flint Water Hearing since it started and the reckless House Republicans are during everything they can to shift the blame to USEPA and away from Snyder’s criminal cabal including MEDQ (Michigan Environmental Department of Quality) .

    • February 3, 2016 at 12:23 pm

Of course they want to blame Obama for everything, even the mess they do. Invading Iraq is Obama’s fault. World War 1 and 2 was Obama fault. So is racism.

      • February 3, 2016 at 12:26 pm

The people in Flint Michigan knows who is to blame, and it is Gov. Snyder.

Good question for the Bernie supporters, how will he get the votes he need to pass some of the things he is talking about. These supporters of his must not have been paying any attention to what the Republicans have been doing the last seven years.

I don’t expect Bernie to accomplish a thing but I do expect him to “do no harm”. He would be a seat warmer until 2020 when hopefully the DNC would have learned something or two.

My fear is Bernie would do harm with what has been accomplished with ACA in trying to get his agenda passed. I am not sure he is that politically savvy and instead of working in incremental change he has an all or nothing attitude which makes him dangerous.

Ryan & his GOP colleagues are simply shameful. They make EVERYTHING about Obama. All the GOP faults are Obama’s fault. It’s time for them to face facts. They sowed this ugly mess. Now they need to deal with it and stop deflecting. They look so incredibly stupid. I am so sick of the people.. Enough is enough.

      February 3, 2016 at 3:18 pm

Funny, LH, I wasn’t under the impression that Republican Party had “done” anything in the last seven years but obstruct everything that could help Americans, create jobs, improve the environment and modernize our infrastructure. Unless, of course, voting 63 times to repeal affordable health care is “doing something.”

    February 3, 2016 at 12:51 pm

    Interesting read.

You can sit back and enjoy the Religious Right tearing itself apart over the 2016 Republican presidential nomination. The process is well under way and won’t be finished until the votes are in after Election Day.

There are Cruz evangelicals and Rubio evangelicals and even Trump evangelicals. This latter category stirs the most amazement in observers, not least among evangelical observers. They can’t seem to wrap their minds around why their fellow “believers” (like Jerry Falwell, Jr.) would prefer Trump to the self-appointed messiah, Ted Cruz, who is, after all, the Chosen One of many Religious Right leaders.

As has been pointed out here and elsewhere, the so-called Religious Right is not all that religious – they don’t practice what they preach, with their babies born out of wedlock, their high divorce rates, their addiction to porn, their worship of money, and their failure to read their own Bible.

What they do do well is hate. In fact, what unifies them is hate, not Jesus, whose message of love they avoid like the plague. And Trump has effectively tapped into that hate by skipping over the middle man.

He has proven you don’t need a Bible you’ve never read in order to hate effectively.

Sure, in Iowa, Cruz managed to out-hate Trump and get a win, but that’s bucking the trend. Iowa talk radio host Steve Deace, who supports Cruz, talked to the American Family Radio’s Sandy Rios after the Iowa caucus and despite his hero’s win, he is really having a hard time with Trump’s appeal.

“It won’t be easy. Our brand of democracy is hard. But I can promise that a year from now, when I no longer hold this office, I’ll be right there with you as a citizen—inspired by those voices of fairness and vision, of grit and good humor and kindness that have helped America travel so far.”

I loved PBO’s speech today. It was a master class in interfaith dialogue–relating Christianity, Judaism and Islam to a common source–Abraham–and a common rule of loving one another. It was about respecting our common humanity, but also embracing the responsibility to speak out and condemn intolerance wherever it festers. The haters on the right seem like petulant two-year olds compared to this evolved adult man. This is what real leadership looks like.

What an utterly nonsensical Bernie tweet. Of course you can be progressive on some issues and moderate on others. All that means is that you have a thinking brain that understands nuance and appreciates what is possible and what is not. I don’t know how this man has functioned in the real world with that rigid level of inflexibility. No wonder he shouts so much.

        • February 3, 2016 at 4:23 pm

For Bernie and his gang, it must be *all* or it’s nothing. There’s so much in between that they don’t even *want* to consider.

    • 120 MadameSoph
      February 3, 2016 at 3:18 pm

Bernie Sander’s tweet actually perfectly illustrates the stark difference between him and President Obama and why I think he would be a disastrous President. It’s this “all or nothing” purity test politics that he and his supporters believe in. I am both moderate and progressive. I would say that President Obama’s willingness to moderate on many issues is how he has been able to effect such profound progress and change for this country.

But more than that, each candidate selling themselves as the “anti-establishment” candidate in 2016 has one thing in common: they have poor records of actually getting things done in public policy. The “establishment” has become an excuse for why these people are ineffective legislators or why, in some cases, they never bothered to seek to effect change in government ever before in the first place.

Good one, meta. The entire opposition to TPP is based on supposition and fear–very few have ever taken the time to actually read it. They just reflexively say it’s NAFTA on steroids without understanding that it fixes all the ills of NAFTA and replaces it. And not one of them has a solution to the way that the US can remain competitive in a global economy without the safeguards of TPP. They think that stomping their feet and whining will solve everything. Bernie is encouraging ignorance here.

      • February 3, 2016 at 4:10 pm

After so many years of careful work and deliberation on TPP by PBO and his admin, it totally infuriates me that these knee-jerk emoprog slogans gain any traction whatsoever.

Clearly Bernie’s progressives do not understand the idea that to make progress one has to *move*! Like others have said here Bernie has his out-dated spiel and it seems like he’ll hang on to it to his last breath. Definitely not a ‘leader’ who can read the signs and adjust his route!

                  • February 3, 2016 at 6:45 pm

HIS label for himself; not mine. Can’t imagine making progress under a Sanders administration…he couldn’t inspire the cooperation needed to effect such progress. Well, the republicans are freaking out in congress in Paul Ryan & the budget. The freedom caucus, comprised of Tea badgers are saying they want massive cuts FY17 or they will all ore no.
They comprise of nearly 80 votes in the house.
Well, the honeymoon is over for Paul Ryan..
Bc he made a deal with the WH, no cuts and you’ll get those dreaded tax cuts for the wealthy that you love so much.

Hello TOD. Good Afternoon. Thanks for the PBO’s speech today.
    Snowy. Sunny now, in MN.
Congrats to all the Gold⭐ winners since yesterday.😉
So Bernie is now question who can and can’t be Moderate and Progressive? Well, as a Roman Catholic, I am Liberal and Moderate and Conservative rolled in one BODY! I am Proud of all my Beliefs!

“If by a “Liberal” they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people-their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties-someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a “Liberal”, then I’m proud to say I’m a “Liberal.”
    So said JFK.

From FDR to PBO, I see a part of their Humanity, Liberalism, Moderation and Conservatism. It’s called Rounded Human Beings. It’s LIFE!

It’s all about Bernie’s definitions. He plants himself in his own bubble and expects everyone to eschew the error of their thinking and see his Light.

He is on my last nerve. I am perfectly happy if it’s a robust campaign, but he and his supporters are becoming ridiculous.

Yesterday, Peter Fenn, a Democratic strategist, said that it would be fine if there was a longer, robust campaign because the Dems would talk of substance while the GOP would be flinging lie-deep feces. It’s as if Bernie heard that, decided how best of divide and hurt the Dems, and came up with this substantless “I’m a better progressive than you” childish game.

Good for Hillary, though: she made it about policy and actual progress.

I will vote for this man if he becomes the nominee by the sheer motivating factor of a Cruz, Rubio, or worse Trump presidency is intolerable, inacceptable, and unimaginable.

Wow, the deep vetting of Sanders is beginning. Let’s see how MSM and people like Rachel and Chris cover the negative part of his record. Rachel made it a point to talk about all of the good thing s and how he is consistent. How deep did she dig? Did she miss this?

        • February 3, 2016 at 6:03 pm

i understand you NC….but i have to work to ensure that will not be the only choice that i have vote for..so i am going to do everything i can to work for Hillary Clinton…NuffSaid

Prettyfoot, I will too. But I made the statement so that others can do the same and not decide that they are so turned off by Sen. Sanders to sit this election out. We can’t go back to a rethug and all the 2015 candidates on the right are just that.

Extremely unlikely that Sanders will get the nomination. New Hampshire and Iowa are so unrepresentative of the Democratic party since they are mostly white. If Hillary’s firewall holds in SC, NV and across the South he will be toast and it won’t take until the end of the primaries as in 2008. Support for President Obama is so strong and Bernie continues to disrespect and bash him. Not to mention that his policies are so unrealistic: how can you even talk about a revolution when half the country is in thrall of the GOP?

      Yep.

His “Most progressives I know…” schtick sets up an “us vs. them” mentality.

After he’s defined a “true progressive” as anyone other than HIM, how will he instruct his voters if and when HRC becomes the Dem nominee?

I meant to say ‘after he’s defined himself as THE only true progressive’.

I don’t mind that people change their minds or stances on any matters over the years. We all do. That’s how we evolve and grow. But to attack one because s/he is not a die-hard progressive is disingenuous. In fact, those hardliners, whether progressive or conservative, are the reason that things can’t get done in Washington or in any government. It’s either my way or the highway; I am always right and you are definitely wrong (or evil).

We all know that POTUS could have done more had he had a Congress he could work with. POTUS compromised many times even as many of us screamed in horror. He knew that he had to deliver, even if what he got from the repugs was limited and will not affect every person as he wanted. Even during the first 2 years, he had to “make compromises” with members of his own party, those people that were too scared even of their own shadows (Blanche Lincoln, Burt Tupac, Mary Landrieu, etc), those famous Blue Dogs.

Unless Bernie believes that once elected, Congress will surrender to his ascension to power and let him enact all these promises that he is spreading around his campaign, he is honestly misleading the thousands people that “believe in a future” where he will on his own correct all the ills of society and politics.

I’ve seen the comments from his supporters. He’s the bookend to Trump. He’s got them whipped up in a frenzy of disgust and indignation against all things they consider “centrist”, “establishment” and “third way”. Say the buzzwords and they go nuts.

The hope is that even if they can’t back down in front of the rest of cyberspace and declare their intent to vote for HRC as the Dem nominee, some of them will at least have the sense do actually do so in silence.

Another Meltdown after the Iowa Caucus

Carly Fiorina on Wednesday urged the Republican National Committee to convince ABC News to let her into its presidential debate Saturday in New Hampshire.

The network had previously announced that it would not hold an undercard debate, effectively giving the former Hewlett-Packard CEO, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), former Pennsylvania Rick Santorum, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee the boot. All of those candidates, with the exception of Fiorina, dropped out of the race after the Iowa caucuses.
