Oh. My. Heavenly. Days. POTUSWROTEUS! NerdyWonka how do you do it? This so beautiful and so moving and so precious. I just posted it on my FB page and will now head for the Twitter. Then I will print out when I get home and frame for my wall, where I can see it EVERY SINGLE DAY. Thank you for the blessing of TOD, of all your sacrifices and time and energy and dedication and wisdom and wit and fire. He’s still living in the White House and I am going to now reread the letter he wrote to me. And You. and you and you and you and you infinity. Thank you CHIPS for this home. Love to all of you TOD family. Madame Soph, thank you for the beautiful wonderful kind dear generous words you shared yesterday. I’m sorry you had trouble posting something you worked on so generously and kindly and wonderfully. And thank you for what you wrote from scratch to share your heart. What a privilege to connect in this space with you and all the dear ones. Thankful through tears today. #yeswecan #forward #thanksobama #mypresident #44 #POTUS4ever

    NW,

    1. Did you see Zizi’s post in the last post?
    2. Those of us out in the hinterlands here are nervous: we would appreciate a note if TOD is actually shutting down, and if so, when.
    3. As always, thank you.

Thanks for enumerating our concerns, rikyrah. Though I’ve been grieving, ranting, fuming, and gnashing my teeth over the end of the Obama presidency and the election of an orange idiot, this morning I realized my tears are for what feels like the loss of my dear friends here at TOD. Yes, we’re still alive, still kicking, working, rallying, and loving the Obama family, but it hit me that I’ve spent time here, at this blog, every day for nearly a decade, and I’m just wrecked at the realization that this might be ending too. Just cannot stop crying now. So again, thank you for asking the question which is heavy on all our hearts ❤

    Good Afternoon TODVille!

Thank you, thank you Nerdy. I couldn’t take two major losses in one day. In fact, I can’t sustain another loss.

Congratulations Anjo for your superb performance here.

May I say one more time how much I love my POTUS Barack H. Obama?

Hello Everyone, I have been reading all these farewell posts and am feeling a bit down. I rarely post but am here everyday as often as I can. Feeling down as I reflect on the last eight years, feeling down as I have close relatives and friends in the US and I fear for them and feeling down because I feel as if I will be losing some dear friends. I am glad I had the opportunity to put faces to members of this community. Although my time in DC was brief I was truly happy to have met the clan. I am seeing where some want to visit the African Heritage museum, please you have my contact info. I am in.

Before TOD I barely paid attention to US politics but now I feel like I am an expert, thanks to all of you for contributing and utmost thanks to Chips and finally thanks to President Obama because if not for you this site would not have existed and become the international community that it is.

    Blessings all.

Thank you to Chips,Nerdy and all those who kept TOD going all these years. It has been an invaluable source of camaraderie, support, refuge, friendship, love, great opinion, debate and most importantly – real and true information.
Difficult times may be ahead but the character and resilience of TODers will prevail.

Hopefully we will be able to convene here or in another place but ,if not , best wishes to all.

    Upward,onward there we all go.

POTUS going out as smooth as he came in: Obama commutes 330 drug sentences on last day as president https://www.apnews.com/965eeb2830bd4f84811b684567c9b897?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&utm_source=Twitter&utm_medium=AP_Politics

I don’t know who the commutations were, but I know they were right and just. That’s the beauty of President Obama’s legacy. Thank you for sharing this!

    • January 19, 2017 at 6:34 pm

Thank you so much for this sherijr! This and your presence here. This is so typical of who he is, what he cares about, how he moves. Tallk about running through the tape — he is running through the tape, while bringing along hundreds of people who have longed for freedom and can now start their new chapters. WHile the worst and ugliest descends on us today and tomorrow, the good and the shining and just also happens, thanks to good action by good people. I am trying to see it all. Sad day, but POTUS says to “…show up and throw ourselves into the joyous work of citizenship.” I’m not up to that yet, but I will be, since he said so. 330 people who are not sad today, and all the peopl ewho know them and love them and the world witnessing this compassion and fire for justice from a great true leader.

To all the dear friends on TOD, to our Ms Chips and our NW, a huge vote of thanks and appreciation, and much love to all of you. I would love to know if TOD will continue. It has been such an anchor and an island of insight, comfort and kindness, and so important for all of us to have a source of real news and conversation with like-minded souls. I weep on this last day of President Obama’s America. The orange baboon is ridiculed and feared here in Germany (and Europe), as no one really knows what to expect. God help America and the world after tomorrow. ❤😔

Team Trump touts the ‘diversity’ of his mostly white, male cabinet
    01/19/17 12:58 PM
    By Steve Benen
In 1992, then-Gov. Bill Clinton came up with a memorable phrase: the Democrat promised voters he’d create a cabinet that “looked like America.” The point, of course, was to assure the public that when it came to policymaking, the Clinton administration would place a high priority on diversity.

It’s a goal Donald Trump doesn’t appear to share.

The Republican president-elect finally wrapped up his cabinet selections yesterday, tapping former Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue (R) to lead the Department of Agriculture – and like most other members of the Trump cabinet, Perdue is a wealthy, older, white man. This post was Trump’s last choice to pick a Hispanic American for his team, which means the new presidential cabinet will be the first without a Hispanic member in three decades.

During the campaign, Trump was asked if his cabinet will include women, blacks, and Hispanics. “Oh absolutely,” he replied. “It’s so important.”

Evidently, however, Trump doesn’t believe it’s that important. His cabinet will have zero Hispanics, one African-American man, one white woman, and one Asian-American woman. (The number of women grows from two to four if you include Nikki Haley and Linda McMahon, who were chosen for positions that may be considered cabinet-level.)

The funny part, however, was listening to Sean Spicer, the incoming White House press secretary, defend the diversity of Trump’s team. Yahoo News reported this morning:

“Look at the Cabinet. Elaine Chao, Dr. Ben Carson,” he said, motioning to former presidential candidate, who was in the room. “Gov. Nikki Haley, the first Indian-American… The number one thing that Americans should focus on is, is he hiring the best and the brightest?”

First, no, we’ve had a chance to look at the folks Trump has chosen, and they’re not actually the best and the brightest. Second, “the best and the brightest” is a phrase that was intended to be an ironic reference to those responsible for the war in Vietnam.

Each of the ohana has written from their hearts on this blog, and the sum total of so many good hearts, good minds, and hard working bodies has moved the ball down the field (forgive me for the sports analogy, but it’s in honor of our PBO). Many of us have found our voices here, clarified our position on issues, asked difficult questions, and shifted the thinking of countless unknown readers. This place matters. {{{{{{{TOD}}}}}}

I was listening to CNN on my drive home. (Some pre-inaugural celebration going on). I listened to Jon Voight talk … 😢. Oh man is he ever a little un-hinged. Oyyy Vey!

By the way, congress … I think Mitch McTurtle is an HONOURABLE man … therefore please emulate his tactics from the last 8 years. (HONOURABLE part was total snark).

Hope TOD will be around. I came here via BWD’s website years ago. I am mostly a lurker…
This is a great place to be, with folks encouraging one another to get involved in their local communities. A beautiful camaraderie exists here.

As PBO said … America will be okay. A jolt is required once in awhile for her citizens but everyone will overcome.

    HI All

This is indeed a tough day.

For anyone who wants to channel, their feelings into actions, Tennessee needs our help today and everyday until the final vote on the aCA

Here is what each of you can do

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS FOR MAKING THE CALLS
To participate in this campaign you need a computer, internet connection and phone (your calls will all be long distance)

    1. Go to this page http://rebuildthehope.org/health-care

    2. On the right side of the screen is an area titled “Talk to Voters Right Now” – enter your information.

    3. Then select a town in Tennessee or Arizona you want to call

    4. After that you will be asked to enter your Action ID – It accepted my Action ID from the Hillary campaign. I was surprised by this. If you don’t have an Action ID click on the tab on the right to “Create an Action ID”.

    5. Once you have created an Action ID you can start making calls. The persons name and phone are at the top of the page. These are nice folks and your work will make a real difference.

Here are 2 video clips from Tennessee that show the voters in Tennessee are making their voices heard.

Knoxville Affordable Care Act Rally calls supporters to action through letter writing campaign

    Chattanoogans Visit Senators’ Offices
    http://www.wrcbtv.com/clip/13021860/locals-support-repeal-and-replace-health-care-question-how-it-will-work

For some of us the horror and depression of a trump administration only goes away when we take action. I hope this helps some of the folks here.

  33. January 19, 2017 at 6:17 pm

I echo everyone’s hope that The Obama Diary will continue past the passing of the baton [sigh]. Coming to this site – this international community – has become a habit and the people who are a part of this site have become family. The wealth of knowledge, talent, and heart has been a gift that I will always cherish.

A great big thank you to Chipsticks for establishing this blog. You nurtured it until it became this village – this haven – that has become a part of our lives.

Thank you, Nerdy for taking the reins and keeping the village up and running. It’s was always a relief knowing that whenever I missed an event, it was captured and posted here.

All the junior BT’s who stepped in when needed…THANK YOU!

To all who contribute to this blog, especially those who contribute regularly, thank you for keeping me informed and expanding my horizons. Beyond keeping me abreast of the politics, you have introduced me to so many things and enhanced the appreciation I already had of other things. We have come here to share our accomplishments and our joys. We have come here when we needed comfort or encouragement. We have come here when we needed to hear voices of reason. We have come here when we just needed a chuckle. Whatever the need, we were able to come here – even if only lurking – and more times than not, there was someone here who provided what was needed.

I am happy that I happened upon this place. Together we have gone through this journey where we have celebrated the presidency of President Barack H. Obama. Together we have valued the jewel who has led this country over the last 8 years. Together we have recognized and appreciated the accomplishments of this administration. Together we were outraged about the disrespect and obstruction that this President endured, and celebrated his victories in spite of it. Together we grieve that this administration is coming to an end, but together we will continue to have the audacity to HOPE just as this President espoused from day one.

    I love this community and everyone who is a part of it. {{{{{{{{{{ TOD FAMILY }}}}}}}}}}

Everybody, it’s been a while. I echo everybody else here: please keep this site up! It can’t be a diary, but I would like to at least read all that I’ve missed over the years and have a place to hear about what Obama is doing as a private citizen that is troll-free and positive.

This is truly a family-and family oriented site. We’ve become more than just anonymous posters, we have become friends as well.

Truly an extraordinary Presidency. Prosperous, ethical, inspiring. People will look back on this and consider this the Second Kennedy era. (or the first Obama one)

I am working my way along this post and have missed several lately. I have to pull away from twitter now, it is just getting thicker and fuller with images of the bad people showing up for the bad actions, and that is not my plan. Just unfollowed the Count — because he’s on his beat which is no longer one I will be following. I am going to be here a lot;and also posting things on my facebook page. Pinterest. There is POTUS on Pinterest? And I thought it was just cakes, pies, casseroles, and kittens! I love you people, TOD family. Cannot imagine my life these last 8 plus years without you — and many of you were here before I got here, WAY before. What a blessing. How did I get so lucky?

I am thankful that I have lived to witness the historical Obama era. As an Afro-Caribbean woman I remember my tears of joy and amazement that memorable night of November 04, 2008 that an African American had won the US’ presidential election. I felt as though a rebirth had taken place within me – that my blackness was finally validated; that no one could look at me again and think that my hue was worthless; no one could demean the value of the DNA in my existence, my humanness; no one could deny my ability to achieve greatness. I knew it did not mean that efforts would no longer be made to belittle my race; what Barack Obama’s victory equated to, for me, was a self-confidence that I mattered and people looking like me, wherever, mattered. That revelation never left me, and I have lived with a new sense of purpose these past eight years. Thank you President Obama. Your greatness will always be that bright star in the political hall of fame that will never be dimmed.

I guess my discovery of TOD was a natural outcome of the Obama experience. You see, after President Obama’s victory, I noticed that the tone of the media in the US had become very antagonistic towards the first African American leader of the free world, that they were predominantly advocating for his failure. Almost everything presented about him and his young presidency was presented with a negative twist. I couldn’t take it, and I turned them off, although we were getting all American channels, with the exception of BBC. Then I stumbled upon mrs-o.com, a magazine dedicated to the First Lady’s fashion, and thankfully, it led me to this blog.

What a glorious discovery this blog has turned out to be! I am so thrilled that it has been all things Obamas. I have been a chronic lurker, but a staunch admirer. I have been able to follow the achievements of this great leader without the bile smeared on by the media. I have learned so much not only about America’s politics and way of life, but also of other parts of the world such as Canada, India, Australia, and Ireland. This blog is a mini United Nations, and the glue that binds its members is the love for PBO and his family. Truly amazing.

Thank you Chips for being a brave visionary to create this blog and sustaining it through challenging seasons. Thanks to the blog generals, especially Nerdy Wonka, for your dedicated service. To the wonderful Todders who made this space so lovingly addictive that I visit it multiple times daily, you have made me laugh, cry, shout and dance so many times. You have admirably modelled the inclusiveness and compassion that President Obama encouraged of his supporters. You are simply the best of all that is awesome. Thank you. You and the Obamas will always be in my prayer.

As distressed as we are , we are blessed to have each other, and to stand witness to the finest chapter in our history. WE MADE IT HAPPEN! Yes, We Did. And we will do it again. I was deeply moved (no surprise) when in Chicago, President Obama said “the pendulum”. Such is the way of things, that the ugliest and most coarse should follow after the most gracious and intelligent we have yet to see.

Glad to know I’m not the only one that was having WP problems! Are we still in the Mercury retrograde post-Shadow period? Thank you for the link. I will check him out.

No, the station direct was on the 8th, but it may feel chronic until the incoming “administration” is unseated and thrown in the slammer!

Head’s up to all my fellow Californians:

    http://www.desertsun.com/story/money/real-estate/2017/01/17/obama-rancho-mirage-house/96678406/

I will be very comforted knowing that the family is heading here for a visit directly after they leave D.C. tomorrow.

Yay! Somehow, knowing they will be close by, here in California, instead of off at some “undisclosed location” is reassuring.

One of my clients has a VRBO in the area. Hmmnnn maybe I’ll ask her if it’s available for me to rent next week 😉

    Attention SoCal TODers:

    http://www.desertsun.com/story/money/real-estate/2017/01/17/obama-rancho-mirage-house/96678406/

It is somehow reassuring and comforting to know that the First Family is flying here directly after they leave D.C. tomorrow.

It’s only 123 miles from my crib in LA to Rancho Mirage. Road Trip!!! What say you MadameSoph? 😆 😆 😆 Seriously, I agree, I’m glad they’ll be here with us, getting that well deserved rest; recharging, rejuvenating.

Sorry for the double post! My first comment didn’t show up right away and I thought I was in “can’t post a comment hell” again 😇 So I made another attempt.

#PresidentGaslight is a perfect hashtag! Ever since DJT stole the election, I’ve felt as if all of us are victims of gaslighting. Because with every day/hour that passes, his proposed administration and plans get exponentially worse, and just when I think things can’t get worse, they do. And yet, relative to the damage that such plans and appointments are going to do to the country, the media, and many members of the dem party, are silent and complicit. And when it just goes on and on like that, I do sometimes feel like there’s this gigantic gaslighting of all of the compassionate, intelligent, thinking people in the country/world going on.

Thanks a lot Ms. Chips for creating this blog and making it what it is today.

Thanks a lot NW for doing all you could to contribute to and maintain this space and ensuring its diversity and growth.

Thanks for the mini “blog tyrants” for bringing the content and helping to make the space run so smoothly for so long.

Thank you everyone for all the moments we have shared together on this blog. Thanks for bringing the diversity of opinions, contents, life experiences, creativity and talent. Most importantly, thank you for ALWAYS support PBO, The First Family and all members of the Team Obama over the years.

    Ps,

Special thanks for those who have not always been the major victims of discrimination in the communities we live. Thank you for serving as the ones holding the victims’ hands, listening to the stories and giving a chance for people to be angry, sad and all kinds of emotions. thanks a lot for listening, encouraging and never taking others’ expression of the pain of victimization as a personal affront. But instead you have acted as true allies and sources of support during very trying time.

Nothing irks Trump more than you not paying attention to him.
