1st!
Congratulations, DON!
Don!!!!
Congrats!
WOW - how fantastic for those kids. Hope he and Michelle keep doing this.
LOVE the exuberance captured by Scout!!
Hi All, waiting for Jose who seems to have gotten the message GET LOST YOU ARE NOT WANTED. Irma is a bad bad b**ch lots of families homeless and jobless today, just waiting for Jose to get lost to send off boat loads of water, food, clothes and generators, Lord protect friends and family fleeing Tampa for Georgia to escape Irma the Menace
I stand strong with you Bobfr. There is nothing, Trump and Republicans, that you can do destroy President Obama’s legacy. One of the greates highlights of my life, living during the Obama Presidency.
I feel like I am lucky to have been alive during PBO’s time in office. He had all the right characteristics needed to be a great president and gave us his all.
Thank you Anna & OG. Couldn’t agree more with your respective statements.
Add me to the list that President Obama is the best of my lifetime,77 years, and I am an old white woman. I know quality when I see it, and PBO is quality.
This visit to McKinley Tech warmed my heart. I have friends who attended that school back in the 50s. At that time the school had a pipe organ in the auditorium and one of them took lessons at school! He later became church organist. Public schools were respected and supported then, as they should be now. Facilities should be available for EVERYONE, not just those whose parents can afford it.
This is one of the typical Obama poses when he is gathering his thoughts; there is nothing fearful or uncertain about his expression, indeed it is just the opposite. So thankful that my president stood up to the haters by not focusing on them but on all of us and how to help as many as possible, even those who wanted to bring h I’m down. Now less than a year after his successful tenure and the disgrace that came after him, more and more a realizing, often with their lives at stake, that they tried to destroy a good, hardworking and honest man who only wanted to help them. Too little, too late and now all of us are paying for the racism, greed, intolerance and ignorance that 62 million of us took to the polls. Hopefully many will learn from the painful lessons that we are forced to learn and deal with every damn day since 1/20/2017.
GE CEB.
Agree with you and Meta 100%. Somehow “thoughtful” photographs of our #LastLegitimatePresident stir up “controversy” and RWNJ attacks, yet FUBAR *always* looks lost, looks like he desperately wants to find the remote control so that he can flip on Fox News.
IIRC you’re in the Jacksonville area, about as far from harm’s way in Florida as you can be. News about #HurricaneIrma is simply unfathomable, can’t comprehend the terror and desperation that is affecting the entire state of ((( Florida ))) this weekend.
Stay safe, warm and cozy. Heartfelt healing energy to all those in Florida now.
I view this photo as PBO collecting his energy, looking skyward to focus his thought and emotions. He always faced the truth before him, day by day. He was and is an INSPIRATION. He led with grace and dignity.
So agree with the three comments above. I never understood the blind, stupid interpretations put out.
Miami has been working on this for a few years; called in experts from the Netherlands to help with how to design and build structures that will help us to manage the floods. De-regulation of Obama’s policies and a climate-denying governor is making the work needlessly more difficult.
Awe inspiring.
GA TODville.
More on Irma, from a California perspective (LOVE how this country pulls together during crisis, as someone once said, ““The pundits like to slice and dice our country into red states and blue states…”
This person’s Twitter profile says he’s from Anna Maria Florida, which looks to be EXTREMELY vulnerable to Irma (on a peninsula across from St. Petersburg) and he has 29 followers (he follows 27 people). This tweet has nearly 900 RT’s and 2,000 likes:
As a reminder (typo in tweet 2/2 — should read @lafd, not @lapd):
OTOH… not good news at all:
One more tweet on hurricanes:
Anyone watching the women’s tennis finals in the US Open? Fantastic performance. Sloan Stephens is remarkable.
Our side really needs to push back on this because it is going to be a problem for any future women President candidates who run for our ticket in the future.
A day to rejoice. Two young African American women are winner and finalist of the U.S. Open Championship.
2 hours ago … far from the worst to come ….
GA Dr. Bob.
From a historical perspective, #HurricaneIrma is absolutely TERRIFYING.
I’ve looked up the impact of (some of) these hurricanes on Wikipedia, and the unimaginable devastation they caused:
And the video embedded in here (second tweet) is worth watching for the video that plays behind the acting director of the National Hurricane Center as he speaks:
And did you see that your neighboring Senator sent a tweet thread (with links to articles) about the fires raging throughout the West?
Hi Arapaho … folk are going to die ….
No, it doesn’t remind me of Senator Sanders. Not at all. I wouldn’t compare anyone to a possum except the wig on Trump’s head.
Beautiful photo composition.
Beauty Break. After a brutal week of heat wave, SO SO SO happy for the return of fog to my city.
GE, TODbots.
Congrats, Don on your Au ⭐ Furst 😉
Watched the Tennis Match btw Sloane & Madison. 24yo & 22yo respectively. Two women with Grace. I must confess that I was not aware of Madison until a few days ago. I was deliberately Not paying attention, hoping that my indifference will be great (in my mind) for Rafael Nadal. The match this evening, I had no favorite. It was great on my Nerves.
❤ TOD. Thanks, NW.
Floridians please be Safe.

Truth. Nothing but the truth.
GE NCLB.
This is horrible news, compounded by the fact that every. single. FUBAR. cabinet. member cloaks their activity under a veil of secrecy. Here’s a couple from Zinke:
someone is a bit peeved!
Oh, oh. It’s getting more interesting by the day.
Tampa has not been directly hit by a hurricane in 90 years.
They are just going off of ‘plans’ for preparation.
Lord, have mercy.
Florida Light and Power believes 3.4 million will be without power.
3.4 MILLION?
For everyone in the path of Irma, stay safe and dry! Sure hope that somehow this is not as bad as projected. And just perhaps after these terrible storms the GOP will stop denying climate change. Love how they watch science when it comes to hurricane path projection but don’t trust those same scientists on climate change.
On another note, will we EVER be rid of Bernie? I just cannot tolerate much more of this. I never was a fan and by the end of the primaries I could not stomach him. Just wish he would disappear back into the recesses of the senate where he spent most of career.
Holding TODers and all those with family and friends in the path of Irma and those recovering in Texas in our thoughts. I hope everyone can stay safe and sound. Please check in when you can.
Freaking cute.
Married when she was 17. Not legal in my country today.
Please read and share this Storify.*
You won’t be sorry!
*Turns out at the suggestion of so many Tweeps, he’s gonna turn this into a children’s book. At least one teacher offered to help him create a curriculum that can be taught in school. People are amazing! I love it!
Point 37 is especially important. Call out your bigoted relatives. I do so with my homophobic relatives. It’s important to let them know that they don’t speak for you and that their opinions are hateful and harmful. Good on Mr. Jackson for creating this educational storytime.
Incredible…..
This is not in any way a rhetorical question. It is already past time to begin preparing for the next Ice Age. It’s going to happen. Period.
Good evening Nerdy & TOD!
Wishing everyone who lives on the Floridian peninsular or has relatives/friends in that region all the best for safety and the “best” outcome under prevailing circumstances.
FUCK TRUMP AND THE GOP ………..
FUCK TRUMP AND THE GOP …………….
Cos he needs $$$ for his Mar-Shit club.
Hi Bobfr.
Cannot BELIEVE people are such f(*#&^g idiots.
They are DOOMING a member of their family to certain death (if not death, a truly terrifying ordeal), with no way for the family member to use its survival instincts (I mean, they shouldn’t abandon the family member at all, but this is cruelty personified).
A horrible fate for these undeserving creatures. 😦
It crushes me, totally, Arapaho.
I don’t understand that either. So coldblooded. I would no more leave my two dogs behind in an emergency than I would leave a child behind.
WOW:
“The $3.8 million the DNC raised in July — the most recent month for which FEC reports are available — was its worst month since January 2009, the month Obama took office. The DNC ended July with $6.8 million cash on hand and $3.4 million in debt.
The Republican National Committee, meanwhile, raised $7.8 million in July. It has $47.1 million cash on hand and no debt.”
WHAT IS GOING ON?
Dang it! That’s horrible. What is happening to the DNC. Trump is doing horribly in the polls so there is no excuse for this.
The only thing I can guess is that Sanders is depressing donations to the DNC with his “Unity” committee member who do nothing but bash Dems all day every day. I hope that means that people are giving to candidates instead but this DNC vs RNC tally is abysmal and frightening.
a la this.
fucking nyt elected the pos, now they are propping up the pos.

GE TODville.
More on Irma, and in terms I can understand…
This is why the entire state of Florida is at risk … we are witnessing a disaster of epic proportions unfold before our eyes. 😦
“The Euro model shows a track up the west side of Florida and this puts the entire state either in the eye wall or on the dirty and windy side of the storm. The winds are already gusting to 60+ in the Keys and over 55 near Miami. This is not good since the eye is still well over 100 miles away. Irma has a large and powerful wind field.”
Just found out that the old-fashioned radio alerts are still in use. Was listening to the 8pm PDT news, when the broadcast was interrupted with a local weather alert — in all my decades in SoCal, don’t recall hearing one before, but I may have forgotten… this was for severe thunderstorms/hail that may damage rooftops and cause zero visibility for driving in the Antelope Valley (Lancaster, Palmdale, Lake Elizabeth, etc.).
Also, forgot to mention that during the last active hurricane season (2004-05) I spent quite a bit of time in Florida, and the people there told me that many people from the northeast move to the east coast of Florida, whereas the west coast of Florida attracts people from the Midwest.
So this terrible storm may affect families in those non-southern states that voted for FUBAR last year.
LOL.
Goodnight TOD ….
Cuban doctors sent to Carib in wake of Irma: “More than 750 health workers have arrived in Antigua, Barbuda, Saint Kitts, Nevis, Saint Lucia, the Bahamas, Dominica and Haiti.” (Independent U.K.)
…..no response from family in FL. How about you J’O and desertflower?….
In contact. In concrete building built to withstand 140 mph. They still have power and actually slept. Can hear wind but not feel it.
Eye passing through Key West about now. Much love and protection to all families down there.
Building must have own generator as power flickers and returns. What’s possible with climate change building planning. My, my.
now power is out.
Born and raised in Miami, most of the buildings and homes if not all are made of concrete. The main thing is when the power goes out those buildings turn into ovens. When I lived in South Florida we never evacuated, we just got our bottled and other supplies and rode the hurricane out. That’s the mentality of the 305.
Always, always appreciate your responses Don. So thank you. This building is only 3 years old. The phase between the old buildings and these included scam cheapo concretized structures that blew away with all the others. This new one has climate change features.
Thinking of you all - stay safe through the storm.
THIS……….
Love this man. I wonder if he writes his own speeches or who his speech writer is because he gives the most incredible speeches, in the same class as PBO.
Agree meta! The only pol out there at the moment (in addition to PBO of course!) that is worth listening to in terms of speeches.
He’s just simply so honest and direct and full of heart and soul, a real natural. His voice resonates with assurance and conviction. I wish I could see him in person.
I remember the first time I saw PBO speak. It was a relatively small rally early in his 2008 campaign. I could immediately see and feel why people were drawn to him. He EXUDES magnetism. He walked up to us afterward and I shook his hand and you could just sense the depth of magnificence in him. I wonder if Joe has a similar charisma. In any case, I do love listening to his speeches.
I’ll have to start watching to see where he might show up. You were lucky to get to see to see PBO in a small setting. By the time I got to see him here, it was a huge rally. But as we know, that magnetism comes through no matter the setting. BUT I did get to see Michelle in person in a small setting. She was coming to Dallas for a taping for one of her causes, and they added on a fundraiser at the last minute. My sister and I went, and it wasn’t more than a couple of hundred of people. She too exudes that charisma. The one thing that surprised me was she seemed smaller in person, still strong, but not that incredible strength that comes through on the screen.
Yes! Michelle is truly stunning in person. Agree she is smaller in person but incredibly TALL. Just gorgeous.
GM TODers,
Thanks to all concerned about us Floridians. Over here in Pensacola. As far as I know, we are not to be severely impacted. They say just some wind and rain. I pray that others in direct harm’s way are safe.
Been having some health issues lately and so this makes it just a little more nerve wracking.
take care all.
Sorry to hear of your health issues, africa, but it’s great to know you aren’t in Irma’s path. Please take good care and let us know how you’re doing.
Thanks, meta!
(((( africatimes2 ))))
🙂 🙂
((Africatimes2)). Stay safe. Sending warm thoughts your way.
Take care {{{ ❤ Africa ❤ }}}
Good Morning Family, I’m thinking of everyone and their loved ones caught in the path the storms. Please be safe out there. Listen to local news for tips on how to be safe and how to get help.
Such an incredible moment at this beautiful museum dedication. May she RIP.
Here I am grinning from ear to ear, mumbling to myself, thinking it’s gonna be a good day! First thing I see when I open up The Twittah is a note saying a journalist whose name rhymes with Schmoledad O’Tyan is following me (*after a couple seconds of side-eye, checks to see if it’s really her — OMG, it IS! 😳 Sits up straight in bed! Rubs my eyes!)!!! Okay, okay, I’m good. Let me get up and DO something! 😆
[But, I ain’t one to brag tho. 😜]
You go on and have fun all day long!!
I shall! Indeed, I shall! 😎
Woot! Time to break out the bubbly… (after Irma has left Georgia, though 😦 ).
Yes, taking nothing for granted. That thing is headed this way. Spent yesterday stocking up and checking emergency supplies. Atlanta freeways gridlocked with Floridians escaping the coast.
I wonder why he felt that way. I’m so proud of her success.
Wishing all our TODers safety w/ Irma. And, of course, all in it’s path. Hoping Africa, CEB, Jovie are safe. Pardon if I missed any of our TOD community who are in path. Xoxo❤
GM Gazelle.
Has Africa posted here recently (as usual, behind here)? I thought the Florida panhandle would be OK, but @NWSTallahassee tweeted this: 😦
But from what I’ve seen on Twitter, no place in Florida will be spared from dangerous winds and torrential rain 😦 😦 😦 (IIRC Jovie’s in the Orlando area (?) and CEB is further north, but can’t remember whether she’s in the Jacksonville area or further west).
Warm, dry, safety to all in Florida.
Africa posted upthread, yesterday? It seems to me that all in Florida will get some impact. Just heard on news that ATL issued state of emergency. Irma is wide. Weather guy saying that if Irma “wobbles” to Everglades, might save folks northwards. Everglades have capacity to absorb some of Irma.
BTW, GM Arapaho!❤
Hi AP415,
So far, I am hearing wind and rain. We are hoping that’s all it will be. Thanks!!
In my case, it was a sister. 😂🤣😆
😯😳😂😂😂 I feel the lower bunk dude’s pain!
Yep!
OMG!
Morning everyone:) Called my parents and texted my sister…so far, everyone is fine. That said, it really hasn’t gotten to them yet…tomorrow morning will be the better tell. Everyone stay safe.
Good news. Hold steady, family.
Yes:) thanks. meta
Good to hear. Stay safe to yr fam. ❤
Thanks, Gazelle:)
He lives in Miami.
🙂 So true!
SMH
Must be my ignorance, but why are cranes up in Miami, why not move them? One just went down in Miami. Could it be more about cost of moving them, not that they can sustain winds of 100mph?
I was wondering that myself. The first I’d heard about the danger they posed in Miami was a couple of days go. How long does it take to dismantle and move them?
Responding to questions on Twitter about dismantling the cranes before the storm hits, the City of Miami said “there is not enough time” as each crane takes two weeks to take down. https://www.dezeen.com/2017/09/07/construction-sites-cranes-pose-threat-miami-residents-hurricane-irma-path/
Thanks, JER. That answers our question perfectly.
Wow!
GOOD GRIEF, they are destroying every last vestige of fair elections.
