Agree. I’m not sure that anyone but the political junkies like us know that Dems have worked hard to pass many good bills FOR THE PEOPLE

Agree and that’s why I’ve not only tweeted but called, more than once including earlier today, the Speaker’s Office and recorded a message no different than in a tweet thread posted earlier today.

The Speaker has a strategic advantage, beyond defending the Constitution, in launching a robust Impeachment process.

She & Dems will not only have the attention of most Americans on a scale not seen since Watergate.

That enables them to deliver a set of terse messages every time they tweet and every time they speak to the Press or directly to Citizens.

The communication formula looks like – ‘Today, we demonstrated Trump’s (fill in the blank) as yet another reason he should be Impeached and, moreover, we just introduced, voted out of Committee or Passed the following Legislation.

Thus, we’re demonstrating on a daily basis how effective Dems are in our efforts to improve the quality of life for everyone while protecting our Democracy and National Security from its enemies within and external to America.’

Yes, America, Dems prove they can walk, chew gum, and whole bunch more.

I don’t ‘do victim’ and I’m sick of watching and reading evidence of timidity in the face of two adversaries’ malign actions – all in plain sight.

In both cases, they have gaping vulnerabilities. One of them has a truly gigantic vulnerability that can be exploited without any form of disclosure of intent and method.

My hope is that Mr Sciutto and others already ‘see’ these giant targets and that some leader has the strength of character to ‘pull the trigger’ before too late (the interval to ‘too late’ is rapidly shrinking).

As all of you know, I’ve been a advocate of paper ballots since first posting at TOD.

However, a secure, trustworthy voting process requires much, much more than paper ballots.

No need to remind everyone here about Stalin’s view of vote tallying, but it is clear that others have failed to grasp the implication and take it to heart as well as to establishing a hardened, end-to-end voting process.

From Speaker Pelosi weekly news conference today:
…Let me be really clear. The president’s behavior in terms of his obstruction of justice, the things that he is doing, it is very clear, it’s in plain sight. It cannot be denied. Ignoring subpoenas, obstruction of justice. Yes. These could be impeachable offenses….You might understand it better if you understand these three things: We want to get the facts, to get the truth to the American people. With the recognition that no one is above the law and 3) the President is engaged in a cover-up. Our caucus is saying that whatever we do, we need to be ready when we do it. And I do think that impeachment is a very divisive place to go in our country, but we can get the facts to the American people through our investigation that may take us to a place that is unavoidable in terms of impeachment. Or not. But we’re not at that place yet.

    .

    • May 23, 2019 at 1:22 pm

..But I do think that we have the responsibility to find common ground. It’s funny you ask that question…we’re busy people and a meeting between the Congress and the President is an historic meeting. It is not a casual coming together of Democrats and Republicans: This is
an historic meeting of the legislative branch, the branch of Government, and the President of the United States. Let’s make it count for something! Let’s make it count for something by dint of preparation, by dint of each others views, understanding that we will have to yield on points to get results for the American people. But he was obviously not prepared, he wasn’t prepared and so he used an excuse to go out the door.

    • May 23, 2019 at 1:26 pm

      Speaker Pelosi:
…we’re not saying as the president said, if you don’t stop investigating me, if you don’t stop honoring your oath of office, I can’t work with you – that’s basically what he’s saying. Maybe he wants to take a leave of absence, I don’t know. but on the other hand we understand our responsibilities, we’re fully prepared to go forward and it will be up to them to have some level of co-operation….We want to do we have to do, that is right for the American people respectful of all the equities that have to be weighed.
…The White House is just crying out for impeachment. That’s why he flipped yesterday because he was hoping – somehow or other you all have a story that isn’t real, I mean you want to believe there is all this unease in our caucus, it simply isn’t the truth – we have respect for diversity of opinion in our caucus, and I say to the caucus our diversity is our strength, our unity is our power, and we have unity in our caucus.
      .

    • May 23, 2019 at 1:28 pm

      Speaker Pelosi:
.He didn’t see this rush to impeachment coming out of our 9 o’clock meeting that he thought was called specifically for him…this is not behavior that rises to the dignity of the president of the United States. But having said that…I actually ardently pray for the president…
..sometimes when we’re talking to him he agrees, and I said one time who’s in charge here because you agree and then all of a sudden something changes, what goes on there, who’s in charge? He says he’s in charge and I suspect that he may be. And I suspect even more since yesterday because I don’t think that any responsible assistant to the president would have advised him to do what he did yesterday.

Trump had a spontaneous pre-scheduled wobbler on the air yesterday, right after an historic Infrastructure meeting for which he was unprepared. And for which he blamed others and stamped his little feet. His latest of many cover-ups. Trump is a terrible failed and corrupt businessman, possibly why Putin still owns him.
Today: Reports of a military request to send 5,000 troops to the Middle East. Iran leaders have said they don’t want a clash. Do you think Trumpsky understandings about consequences or Congressional powers and oversight? It’s not like Monopoly where you can buy hotels and then just quake the board when you don’t like how the game is going, or swap your golf ball for the others guy’s and get your caddy to run on ahead and enforce presidential privilege. (yes he did.)
-The persecution of the precious lives of innocent Iranian people must not be this tool’s newest “achomlishment”.
-Carnival barker missing adult relationship skills and inability to join the dots doesn’t get to play war schtick for kicks

Theater of Cruelty: Trump’s draconian sanctions on Iran and he wants more.
“It has been one year since President Trump RENEGED on the 2015 (P5+1) nuclear deal
(that rolled back Iran’s nuclear activities and placed them under the most rigorous international inspection regime ever implemented anywhere). Then came one of the most draconian sanctions regimes ever imposed by Washington on any adversary. So far, the U.S. Treasury has blacklisted nearly 1,000 Iranian entities and individuals, targeting nearly all sectors of Iran’s economy….The Iranian currency has lost two-thirds of its value, as oil exports have dropped by more than half and will likely fall further still. Although food and medicine are exempt from sanctions, lack of access to the global financial system is giving rise to a humanitarian crisis. Some families have not been able to eat meat for months and are suffering from shortages of specialized medicine.”
    https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2019/05/why-trumps-sanctions-iran-arent-working/589288/
-Even so history shows that Iranians will not capitulate.
-This is the guy that didn’t want to be president. Neither is Bolton et al.

  34. May 23, 2019 at 2:31 pm

    Ben Rhodes to Hayes:
“Mohammed bin Salman is pushing for confrontation with Iran and so is Bibi Netanyahu. Donald Trump has gone along with this. He pulled out of the Iran deal. That was at the top of the list of Saudi Arabia and Prime Minister Netanyahu. And he essentially poured gasoline all over a fire and then handed the matches to John Bolton. John Bolton set the conditions for this war.  He framed it the same way did Iraq. And look, let`s be clear. If the only thing standing between MBS, Netanyahu, and John Bolton, and a war in Iran that they`ve dreamed about, those three men for years, decades even, is Donald J. Trump then we`re in serious trouble because he`s not – he`s not an innocent bystander, Chris.”
(btw is he still using a phone that is clocked by China, Russia, et al.)
