MSNBC A Liberal News Station? Chuckle.

****

by Donna

IDK I guess its just me but it amazes me that people are surprised at the level of negativity toward PBO on MSNBC. That station has been doing this since right after he won in 2008. A lot of people pine for Olbermann but he was one of the first who started with the negativity about PBO. He was a favorite “son” of DailyKos who started their hatefest as soon as PBO picked his transition team. I knew exactly what Keith would be featuring on his show at night just by looking at the ‘recommended” essays featured on that website daily.

I’ll never forget Chris Matthews having one of those gun nuts on his show who proudly carried his assault weapon while protesting President Obama when he was in Arizona in 2009. It was the height of sensationalism.

Chuck Todd is vengeful and doesn’t like that this WH doesn’t give the media complete access so he takes it out on them with every negative story that he can feature. I try not to wish harm on anyone but I am rooting for MTP to fail.

And don’t get me started about how they highlighted those bogus ObamaCare Townhalls until they were all the rage by 2010.

They are NOT a LIBERAL news station. They are infotainment masquerading as news people. Only Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell have ever actually had the title of new reporters although I question each of their qualifications.

Their ratings will continue to sink because they don’t cater to us like Fox does to their viewers. Cable news is not network news it’s entertainment with a whole lot of opinion and very little news. You cannot run a 24/7 cable news show on just straight news. No one would watch it so this is what you get. A whole lot of mess and an ignorant public.

A Few Thoughts On Being Wrong And The Media

It may surprise you to know, but I have been wrong in the past. Dashingly wrong. Stupefyingly wrong. So wrong that the mistake could have threatened my future. So wrong that an immediate and heartfelt apology was all that would suffice.

I’m sure this has happened to most people. Humans are able to be counted on to, if nothing else, screw up spectacularly, in the most entertaining fashion.

An apology may or may not solve the issue. You may or may not be able to salvage your reputation, your relationships, your life. If you work hard enough, and are blessed with forgiveness, you may be able to do that.

But that’s for the real world, the place we proles inhabit. There’s another world much more rarified, where we’re not allowed, and where being “right” doesn’t count for as much as one would think it should.

It’s a peculiarity of the American ruling class that people who have been wrong time and again about, well, everything are still taken seriously. They’re still invited on “news” shows to give opinions. Various sectors seek their counsel. Rather than fading into penury, they reap the welfare circuit available only to those who muck up magnificently, but have the right connections.

Chat Away - And A Little Reminder

Time for a little reminder after Martin Bashir’s firing from a post I wrote not too long ago.

We can be angry. We can be saddened. But what we mustn’t be is surprised.

One can argue that there never was a “liberal media”. But it’s safe to say that there used to be a more balanced media, one in which factual reporting and accurate analysis were the linchpins of the industry. If the reporting on Vietnam was rosy at first, by the end of the war its full horrors were being reported on honestly.

But that was also in an era when media ownership was far more diffuse. NBC and MSNBC are owned by Comcast, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world. ABC is owned by Disney Corporation. Fox News is owned by News Corporation. CNN is owned by Time Warner. CBS has remained “independent”; but it too is a large multinational.

Corporations may be many things. They may be the most efficient means to organize economic activity. They may give their employees a somewhat remunerative working environment. But one thing for which they can never be mistaken are altruistic institutions acting for the public good.

Chat away and keep on fighting. It’s the only way anything has ever changed.
