Don’t you just love the wingnuts and their “Military hates Obama” meme. Here is Admiral McRaven (the one who commanded the Bin Laden raid) and what he thinks of this Commander in Chief and the last
McRaven speaks respectfully of Bush as Commander in Chief, saying he “made some very, very tough decisions.” About Obama, without a question to prompt him, he waxes lyrical and at length. The planning and decisionmaking for the bin Laden raid, he volunteers, “was really everything the American public would expect from their national leadership.”
“The President was at all times presidential,” he says. “I would contend he was the smartest guy in the room. He had leadership skills we’d expect from a guy who had 35 years in the military.” The sentiments appear to be mutual, for McRaven and his special-operations units. In April, a month before the bin Laden raid, Obama tapped McRaven for his fourth star and nominated him to lead the U.S. Special Operations Command.
And the morons on the right still say he’s too naive and inexperienced to be president. Oh, I forgot, that’s opposite world. When they speak you have to decode their words into the opposite and then you may sometimes get nearer to the truth. Naive and inexperienced means ” strong, brilliant and outstanding leadership.” It’s like having the decoder rings you used to get in Ovaltine jars in the old days.
I was already all Verklempt from seeing the pics..they really do tell a story. Michelle’s face says it all.
And, now what McRaven says about P. Obama is everything I thought was going on. PBO has mad skills that can be applied to any situation. Thank you for this, LOL~
Those are not expressions of people forced to be there listening out of respect to the CIC speak. Those are faces expressing joy, excitement and gratitude to their CIC upon speaking.
I know and it’s awesome to see! Funny how the wingers would have us believe the troops hate Obama. Every time I see him in the company of our military they seem really happy about it.
Wonderful to have a President who actually respects the sacrifice our military personnel make.
when I went to CNN’s website to see about watching the program I had a treat: “2.5 more Americans have health insurance…..” beause of Pres. Obama’s health care reform. Talking mainly about young people. Nice to see in mainstream website.
http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/14/health/health-insurance/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
And by the way - way back when at a town hall where some wingnuts were attending, I held a poster outside saying something like I was glad my young adult daughter could stay on my insurance. Several wingnuts walking by responded that this just amounts to coddling, why can’t they get out on their own and be responsible, etc. Since I heard it so often I knew it had to be a right wing talking point.
Right! Why can’t young people get out there and get one of those nonunion jobs the GOP is pushing that does not include healthcare or one of those big companiy jobs that give just enough hours of work to them so they do not have to pay healthcare or better yet the nonexistent jobs the so called coddled job creators have still to create?
I know. My boyfriend (he’s a 60yr old man) was a Vietname Vet and to this day people give him grief for that war. He is hurt hat since the 90′s and today, soldiers are treated better than he and his commrades were treated. I always thank him for his service all the time and that he and his fellow soldiers were not given the same honor and respect. I am glad America learned her listen about our soldiers and the great job they do. I am thankful for all of them living and deceased, to echo PBO - Welcome Home, Welcome Home, Welcome Home!
The military HEARTS their Commander-in-Chief. And they are not alone!!
Debbie Wasserman-Schultz Tweets:
Latino Decisions poll: 54% Latino voters say certain to vote to reelect @BarackObama. Only 9% say they will "almost certainly vote GOP."— D Wasserman Schultz (@DWStweets) December 14, 2025
Yes Cuban as a 3rd generetion Mexican American I can assure you that the Cubans in Miami are mostly
Republican they have always been. Howeve the Latino population does and will vote for PBO I can
garanteed , so I I am not worried about the Cubans. Thank you mr president,
I was just about to say something about the Cubans really should get up to speed and see what the gop of today is doing to our country with their lies and destrutcion to our infrastucture. Why would they want to be a part of that?!
This is an amazing speech… he is reminding this country of ALL that our troops put in, all they gave, all they did.. doesn’t matter that this war was wrong from the beginning.. whats important here today for these troops is that they know and this country remembers all they’ve given because they were asked to. This President is unparallelled in my opinion in so many things, but truly in his support and respect for our military.
NBC/WSJ: Gingrich At 40% With GOP, But Would Be Crushed By Obama
Kyle Leighton December 13, 2011, 7:25 PM
In the most pronounced contrast between former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s position within the Republican primary contest and his standing in a matchup against President Obama, Gingrich has taken a commanding lead in a new national poll from NBC News and the Wall Street Journal. Newt gets 40 percent of the GOP vote nationally, the highest total for any candidate in the past few months. He’s currently 17 points above his main competitor, former Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney.
But the data also shows that Gingrich is a much weaker candidate against President Obama nationally. While Romney is only bested by the President by two points within the poll, Gingrich is crushed 51 - 40, showing the expansive disconnect between the GOP voters’ desire to have a non-Romney candidate and the chances that candidate has in the general election.
“Why the difference between Gingrich and Romney? Look no further than their favorability ratings,” MSNBC wrote in their analysis of the poll. “Gingrich enjoys strong numbers among Republicans (46 percent positive vs. 21 percent negative), conservatives (42 percent positive vs. 23 percent negative) and Tea Party supporters (54 percent positive vs. 16 percent negative). In fact, they are higher than Romney’s numbers among these same three key Republican groups.”
this pictures make me cry and I thank you, Chipsticks.
one of my pet peeves is that the GOP, despite all their VOTES, get the ‘ they support the military’ cred.
which is utter bullshyt, because if it’s not for a DEFENSE CONTRACTOR, the average GOP legislator could give two shyts about ANYTHING that helps the average soldier.
I’M SO GLAD that both our President AND First Lady have been up front and center with any way that they can to help the AVERAGE SOLDIER.
and the Soldiers KNOW IT.
so, you can’t publish enough pics of POTUS, FLOTUS AND THE TROOPS.
How true about the GOP. I haven’t heard any of their “candidates” talk about the troops, other than wanting to start another war. Our troops know who is supporting them.
Hey, Desertflower I wanted to answer you concerns about the Boehner lead gerrymandering of districts in Ohio from a few threads ago. We are working on that as well. We have just submitted the petitions with enough signatures to put the voting restriction laws on the ballot for 2012. Now we are working on petitions to stop the GOP dominance of the redistricting in Ohio. The way they have it set up 75% of congresstional representation from Ohio will be GOP. WE ARE WORKING ON IT DESERT. Thanks for asking about your home state, love. OFA FOREVER. KEEP HOPE ALIVE!! YES WE CAN!!! Obama/Biden 2012
Why is this signature drive so much harder than the others - especially the union-buster one? Did the union brothers and sisters decide that having a 12-4 GOP map is in their best interest? As long as the anti-union bill was squashed they’re happen with a skewed map that will help keep the GOP in power nationally?
You make some good points SR. Everyone was involved with the repeal effort of SB5 and we won handily. It has been more difficult to collect the sigs for the gerrymandering. Keep us in your prayers.
Thanks Keith! I just knew that you guys would be on it:) Glad that you saw my comment to you! Get ‘er done! Wanted to let all of you know that I was listening to Stephanie Miller this morning, and a caller from WI was asked how the recall for Walker was going…his response was that they have already gotten 1.5 MILLION signatures for recalling Walker!!!! It’s not even DONE YET! He won the election with 1.4 million votes…now they have recieved even more than that to recall him!!! I thought that was awesome news that I thought you may all want to know!
Go kick some ass, WI!!! Give that guy a PINK SLIP!
US President Barack Obama is marking the end of the Iraq war with a speech at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, telling troops, “welcome home!”
His address is paying tribute to the soldiers who served in the conflict - both those who died and veterans who returned home after long tours of duty.
More than 200 soldiers based at Fort Bragg died over the course of the nearly nine-year war.
The final US soldiers are expected to leave Iraq within days.
The last combat troops left the country in August 2010.
‘Heads held high’
President Obama has framed the withdrawal as a promise kept from his 2008 election campaign. During that election, he ran as the anti-war candidate and spoke on the need to rebuild a troubled economy.
It was his first visit to Fort Bragg, and he addressed those personally affected by the war - veterans and their families.
He was joined by his wife Michelle, who as first lady has been an active advocate for veterans, in an aircraft hangar, with transport aircraft and army vehicles still in their desert livery.
Mr Obama said the US military was leaving Iraq with “heads held high”.
He also focused on his commitment to ensuring veterans find the jobs and resources they need back home.
THE ADDRESSES FROM OUR AMAZING FIRST COUPLE WERE IMPECCABLE,FILLED WITH HONOR AND HEARTWARMING PRAISE FOR THE SACRIFICES MADE BY ALL WHO HAVE FOUGHT FOR FREEDOM…FOR ALL WHO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE ARE DUTIES TO SECURE THE SUFFERING IN HUMANITY! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL…THAT’S OUR PBO AND FIRST LADY MICHELLE…PUTTING THE TROOPS WHERE THEY BELONG..FIRST IN A GREAT LINE OF AMERICAN HEROISM! IT IS A BLESSING TO HAVE THIS GRACEFUL FIRST COUPLE IN THE WHITE HOUSE!
Just flipping channels and all Alex Wagner has to begin after the speech with is high unemployment of veterans. She just makes me sick , she allows wingnut especially the guy from Comcast to run over her. It is her show and she need to control things no wonder she is one of those huff people, but when she goes to Al show she changes her tune go figure. Those who twit give her a piece of your disapproval
I only saw a snippet of the speech, but I am so so glad that this is happening. And while pundits argue over who deserves credit, let’s not forget that SOFA was ultimately based on proposals that Senator Obama laid out in 2007. They mocked him for it and claimed it was dangerous to announce a withdrawal time frame and deadline. Yet here we are. It cam a few years later than he first proposed, but it has finally come to pass.
Halperin’s Take
Obama was totally in command on this one: well-written, clear, from the heart, and politically savvy. And the First Lady’s introduction was yet another high-profile reminder that her public performance and appeal are going to continue to be formidable forces. And/but it is a sad reminder of the hyper-partisan times in which we are living that the Twitters are filled with negative comments from leading Republicans about the speech, rather than anything positive about the troops or the mission — or, of course, the President.
Yup, it just did! Not only did he say something nice about the Pres., he backhanded the Repubs! I guess even he can see that there are certain times in our lives that as a country, we come together as one — especially when it comes to our troops!
WHAT??!! are you puulling my leg LOL? Am I high? Am I hallucinating? Say what now?! Limp Dick wrote that?
ps- righ now rewatching the last 23 minutes of the event. PBO and Miche spent over twenty minutes shaking hands and working the crowd.
Nope while I am at it….let me also blow your mind. From GOPolitico
Article 1:”His speech at Fort Bragg marked the end of the war and a campaign promise delivered.”
And
Article 2: “But no Democratic president since Truman really has the chance to so credibly make the case with veterans and current service members”
Sure, the stories are still 96% BS, but for POLITICO to allow their reporters to write something sem-nice about the President—-me thinks the head honchos will call a company meeting tomorrow. Nice things to say about Obama—oh heads, will roll gentlemen.
it’s so funny. I completely forgot that Dick wasn’t his first name. I was talking to a libertarian co-worker about LD Halperin and I literally called him Dick and the guy was like, “that’s his name?” and I said yes. He was like: “I thought he had a different name” and it took me 24 actual hours to remember that his name really isn’t Dick. Didn’t Shakespeare say: “what’s in a name?”—- a dick is a dick is a dick, even if his name is really Dic-er—Mark.
Senate defeats rival balanced-budget amendments
By Josiah Ryan - 12/14/11 12:01 PM ET
The Senate on Wednesday defeated each party’s version of a constitutional amendment that would have required a balanced federal budget.
The rival proposals would have prohibited Congress from spending more each year than it receives in revenue.
What an amazing moment in our history. GREAT speeches of appreciation for our troops by both POTUS and FLOTUS. So proud of them and what this means for our country.
Yes, I saw it, and it was beautiful. What a gentleman and to me, shows great respect. I love our favorite SS as well. Through the tears, I found these tears of joy mingling with the spoken words of a CIC who was so full of gratitude for the men and women who served their country and shown great respect for their CIC today.
This was a powerful speech from President Obama, and a very tender and respectful touch from our lovely First Lady who showed all of us her heart that was full of gratitude and love for our military families. I am so grateful for our President and First Lady. Welcome Home, indeed!!!!!HZ
I can’t wait for our End of Afghanistan. Now that she should be a speech of epic proportions. America in peace for the 1st time since Fall 2001. Wow. Can’t wait for the day.
Thank you! I had a client drop-in just before FLOTUS took to the stage. Understand, I’m ill, still in pj’s and hadn’t had a shower — yet, she “only needed a moment.” An hour later… (Disclaimer in case she visits today: Her business did only take 10 minutes; then we had to solve the woes of our town, the state and the country; plot our strategies for OBAMA 2012; etc, etc) Sometimes, I hate having a home office! LOL
Oh, and I gave her a tour of our happy home; so if you are lurking — Hi Ms. G — welcome to TOD!!!!!
The picture of Michelle sitting there smiling as she watch her husband speak, I wonder what is going through her mind? I was so proud of both of them today. And a big heart felt thanks to our Troops and their families.
So thankful for these beautiful photos. Made the mistake of reading the horrible elevator accident story on gawker——and I already hated elevators——-now I won’t even get on the all glass ones, which were the only ones I could tolerate. Sorry—-really need these photos now—-need to cleanse my brain.
I remember in the peak of the Iraq War and you had anti-war zealots calling our troops “baby killers.” Yeah. Never again do I want to hear those words directed towards our military. You can disagree with the conflict without having to resort to highly offensive name-calling of our brave soldiers. But anyway, that’s the past it’s a new day and we coming home.
With Yahoo being my mail provider, I see their frontpage news a lot, and just checked now and there’s no mention of these speeches whatsoever. There was ZERO mention of President Obama’s meeting and press conference with al-Maliki the other day. Yet, here’s what’s on the frontpage right now:
“Poll: Unfavorable views of Obama reach new high”
I’ve been needing to change from Yahoo for some technical reasons in hosting some Web sites, which I will now do for sure, and will be taking ALL my various paying accounts from them after this week. The propaganda is so extreme now….last straw for me this week…shame too, since I’ve been with them in some form or fashion since their early days in the mid-1990s. If anyone here also pays for any Yahoo service, you might consider joining me in leaving Yahoo…
Here’s a different kind of poll about how people are feeling about the economy…
Every Monday since Thanksgiving a blockbuster for retailers, ComScore says
“The surge in online shopping is no longer reserved for the Monday after Thanksgiving.
Every Monday this holiday season is turning into a blockbuster online sales day, surpassing $1 billion in sales each day, according to comScore, the Chicago-based digital market research firm.
This past Monday, Dec. 12, online spending reached $1.13 billion, up 19 percent from the second Monday in December of last year. Online sales were $1.17 billion the previous Monday, Dec. 5, and a record $1.25 billion on Nov. 28, also known as Cyber Monday.
The three consecutive Mondays ranked as the top three biggest online spending days so far this year, the firm said.”
Is DKos even relevant anymore? Does anyone in Dem circles quake in fear at their pronouncements? Meh. But I’m sure there are many people there that haz sads.
I was never really much of a reader there and never made an account or ever left a comment, but I think it’s been several months since I’ve clicked over there at all. Usually forget it even exists anymore. Feels good!
So if you guys watch the CSPAN video, there is a guy around 43:52 that gets his hand shaken by the president and proceeds to gingerly make his way to the back without his President Shaken hand being touched by anyone. Tooo funny.
On another note, I had my CNN live stream still on and saw what appeared to be an angry gnome shaking his hands furiously—alas, it was just John McCain yelling at the sky again.
“This is your land, this is my land” just playing. Music is my thing! Love marches, love all those uniforms and the smiles, but most of all I love my president and first lady.
Michelle looked very, very classy, right down to her very classy shoes!
My goodness, what an emotional overload. I’ve got to go off somewhere and have a really good cry. How lucky I am to have lived long enough to see this wonderful president.
“It is not time for me to be endorsing anyone at this time! When there are the two final candidates, then I will endorse,” Busey said Wednesday in a statement released through his representative. … Asked why Busey was withdrawing his endorsement, the actor’s spokesman said Busey “likes” Gingrich but “he is not endorsing anyone at this time.”

Homophobic Mayor Loses Her Job
By Mitchell S. Gilbert| December 14, 2025
Today, we learned that Mayor Janice Daniels of Troy Michigan, who told the world on her Facebook page last week that she couldn’t be a fan of New York now that “queers can marry there,” has lost her job with Century 21 Real Estate. For the record, Daniels has publicly apologized for her mean-spirited, homophobic comment. But apparently, not all the damage her comment inflicted on her good name and reputation can be repaired with an apology. Her boss at Century 21 indicated that he can have, “no one in his company, either employee or independent contractor, who would be capable of such insensitivity to the LGBT community, or to anyone for that matter.”
I’m loving Century21 right now! There needs to be outrage at what the GOP are trying to introduce into common consciousness - as enough people push back and declare that kind of crap unacceptable, then these hateful people will crawl back into their caves. Well done.
Contra Will, Gingrich Was On Point
by BooMan
Wed Dec 14th, 2011 at 11:33:13 AM EST
You gotta love the headline of George Will’s latest piece: Newt Gingrich commits a capital crime. Mr. Will really lays down some heavy snark as he takes Gingrich apart limb by limb. It’s unusually good writing from Will. But he still misses an important point. Here is Will’s defense of Vulture Capitalism:
Romney, while at Bain, performed the essential social function of connecting investment resources with opportunities. Firms such as Bain are indispensable for wealth creation, which often involves taking over badly run companies, shedding dead weight and thereby liberating remaining elements that add value. The process, like surgery, can be lifesaving. And like surgery, society would rather benefit from it than watch it.
I saw on twitter that Tweety was on some show saying the polls were bad news for Obama when all recent polls shows good news for Obama, encouraging news for Obama. Some of these talking heads are so wedded to some story line that they want but isn’t reality that they are making themselves look so foolish, like idiots.
News on the speech is on most newspaper websites, but the Reuters story looks like it was a handout from the RNC—-it is horrible, overwhelmingly negative. The AP story is much more complete and decent.
Digging Deeper: My Two Cents
By Walter Rhett, on December 14th, 2011
Two cents, maybe three cents. All this political outrage is over two cents by one plan (a surcharge), three cents by another (ending the Bush tax cuts). $0.30 on every $10, $30 on every $1,000—or to the point, $30,000 on $1,000,000. Three cents will balance the revenue returned to 160,000,000 Americans on their working wages. Although they earn most of their money from capital gains, the President’s plan asks those earning $1,000,000 for $0.03 per dollar of income.
~snip~
Our economy produces huge wealth and poverty, and the differences are reflections of more than attitudes and education. They are embedded in our hearts and politics. And for some, who think in commodities and have no compassion, saving health care, unemployment, and social security isn’t worth two cents.
Where Will Is Wrong On Romney
His column today represents the tip of the spear in Republican Washington’s panicked fusillage against someone who was once and will again be the least popular public figure in America. It pounces on Gingrich’s classic blow-up this week, when he seemed to criticize the activities of Bain Consulting. It is, indeed, a largely leftist point made by Newt:
“I would just say that if Governor Romney would like to give back all the money he’s earned from bankrupting companies and laying off employees over his years at Bain Capital, that I would be glad to listen to him.”
Compare it with Huckabee’s brilliant quip from the last cycle:
“I want to be a president who reminds you of the guy you work with, not the guy who laid you off.”
OMG!!! I was watching the last 20 or so minutes of the speech and as I’m watching, it looks like this guy shakes PBO’s hand and PBO moves on to the next person. The guy puts the hand PBO shook up in the air and starts walking, trying to find a clear path so no one touches the hand. As he’s walking, another soldier teases him by attempting to touch the hand PBO shook. It was so fricking cute. I keep trying to find it again but I keep missing it, darn it! I’m gonna find that part of the video if it takes me all darn day.
“I’m just going by my gut. I shook the guy’s hand, looked him in the eye and he has no soul. I don’t see a conviction. I don’t see a leader. I feel like I’m talking to a robot. I’ve talked to all the other candidates and none of them gave me the vibe that Gingrich did. He is not a guy you want to go have a beer with,”
- Judd Saul, a Tea Party member and GOP activist from Black Hawk County.
I thought ir sounded like it was directed toward Gingrich too since the person quoted said no one else gave him the vibe like Gingrich. I went to the link to clarify and my laptop got frozen so I’m not going back. Suffice to say, in my book, that the description goes for both the newt and the mitt. “There’s nothing there”.
Thanks Jovie~ I can’t even imagine the Prez has time to watch tv but sounds like he’s able to catch a couple of shows that I don’t watch cause they don’t appeal to me. I’m glad he’s in People.. people get more of a chance to read about the President, FL Michelle, and their family without cable news trying to stab them..looking at you Tweety.
Governor Walker has fallen in with the wrong crowd:
Another major shoe has dropped in the John Doe investigation of Gov.Scott Walker’s current and former aides. On Tuesday, authorities arrested Andrew P. Jensen Jr., a commercial real estate broker with Boerke Co. and a past president of theCommercial Association of Realtors-Wisconsin. Fran McLaughlin, spokesman for Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr., confirmed that Jensen was behind bars Tuesday night. But McLaughlin said no one had filed a criminal complaint against the 50-year-old Milwaukee resident.
The sheriff’s website states that charges are pending against Jensen.
Jensen was a minor contributor to Walker’s gubernatorial campaign, donating $850. Boerke Co. employees gave a total of $12,150. Insiders told No Quarter that he was arrested after refusing to cooperate with the long-running John Doe investigation by Milwaukee County prosecutors.
Prosecutors launched the investigation in May 2010 – around the time Darlene Wink left her county job as Walker’s constituent services coordinator. She quit shortly after admitting that she had frequently posted political comments online on Journal Sentinel stories and blogs while on the county clock. Authorities later took her work computer and executed a search warrant of her home in August 2010. They also took the work computer of Tim Russell, a former Walker campaign staffer who was then working as county housing director.
.
Wednesday night, Huckabee will host four Republican candidates at the screening of his new anti-abortion film, Gift of Life, a documentary-style film produced with Citizens United. Newt Gingrich will attend alongside Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Perry. Though the former Arkansas governor-turned Fox News personality says he won’t be making an endorsement soon, his praise will go a long way in Iowa, where the field is still wide open and the caucuses only 20 days away.
Newt Gingrich boomlet seems to be fading already. His stance of “not going negative” is allowing Paul and Romney to attack the hell out of him with no fear of retribution and it’s having it’s desired effect. I guess “not going negative” just means “I’ve had my fun and am ready to cash in now”.
I can imagine the Obama team rubbing their hands. From TPM:
Mitt Romney’s career at Bain Capital buying up and restructuring companies — sometimes with major job cuts along the way — has been a glaring vulnerability since his earliest political runs. But it’s rarely come up in his two presidential campaigns, where the GOP’s investor-friendly ethos has made rivals hesitant to use it against him. Until now, that is
-snip-
Behind the scenes, Republicans opposed to Romney have long whispered that Bain is the candidate’s glass jaw, that it killed his Senate campaign in 1994, that he’s shown no sign he’s learned to handle the issue on a national stage because it’s not a big factor in the Republican primaries.
“A main argument Romney has made to Republicans has been that they should hold their noses and vote for him because he has the best chance of beating Obama,” one Republican operative at a rival campaign told TPM. “But a lot of Republicans who have thought through how his record at Bain could be used against him, especially in nasty campaign ads in economically depressed parts of swing states, think Bain is a huge liability and that Democrats will bludgeon him with it. Expect to see a lot more scrutiny of Romney’s record in business, and of Bain, in the next month.”

I hope linking to and quoting Andrew Sullivan is frowned upon here after this - http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2011/12/ron-paul-for-the-gop-nomination.html
Though he considers himself a conservative Andrew Sullivan seems to me to be a very strong supporter of PBO. He is disgusted with the Republican party and is simply pointing out that Paul is the most honest and consistent of their candidates.
McCain: Obama’s leadership deserves ‘scorn’ and ‘disdain’ for pulling US troops out of Iraq
By Josiah Ryan
Ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Wednesday suggested President Obama deserves “scorn and disdain” for his decision to order complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq by year’s end.
John McCain is a silly old fool. His wife need to take his senile old self and put him in a nursing home. If fools like McCain have their way no troops would be coming home from Iraq. It is time for Iraqis to take care of Iraq.
Republicans are MAD that President Obama didn’t go along with the neocon project of establishing permanent bases in Iraq and looting Irak oil.
Not only the repubs are greedy and power hungry, they are also short-sided, and so simplistic in their thinking. President Obama’s vision and actions are brilliant. He’s working for the long term, for a more just and peaceful world. And in doing this, he makes americans safer. And America is gaining back international respect and credibility.
Did I ever say how much I admire this man?
Folks, he HAS to be re-elected. The whole world needs him.
mc-same is still fighting the Vietnam war and his capture. Because he didn’t “fight” he thinks all presidents should stay in wars or die trying, he’s a bitter angry little man…..
Miche and the girls leaving for Hawaii Firday. No mention of PBO will go. Some chick on Martin’s show said PBO said he will stay in Washington till a deal is agreed on and done. Curses on the heads of the repugs.
Lisalovesobama, please no disrespect intended toward you, please call Mrs. Obama Michelle, nicknaming her Miche diminishes her name. I know you probably mean it fondly but if WH staffers are reading TOD, I don’t want any disrespect coming from here. I know it’s because I’m a tad old fashioned and believe in respecting and sayinging someones name correctly that I say this. It just makes me cringe to read our First Lady’s name reduced to Miche…….. “shrug”…and then again, it could just be me…..
Jessica, I think this is a strange comment. It sounds way too much like criticism of the first Lady to me which we here on TOD do not accept! In my mind I think of the first family’s annual Christmas trip to Hawaii as a chance for PBO to go back to his roots/his hometown. Doesn’t everyone want to go home for Christmas?
@mmurraypolitics
Mark Murray
McCain today on Obama/Iraq: “I believe that history will judge this president’s leadership with the scorn and disdain it deserves.”
How about inondating his office with e-mails and calls mentioning the TIME article where President Obama get LOTS of PRAISE from the military about his leadeship skills?
McCain is actually talking about himself..only the scorn and disdain is right now and history will only magnify what an ugly bitter old man lost to President Obama and according to his early history McCain was always a mean ugly asshole. Only gets worse.
Gosh cspan’s not working for me!!!
Great pics Chips. Awwww Miche wanted to cry, she’s really passionate about military families. PBO’s sweet opening line whenever he follows Miche always touches me. He loves her and she’s like a school girl; she gets really shy.
What a wonderful thing we are a part of here! And I am so proud of Michelle, and the Prez.Their love for one another, and this Country really shows!”HOORAH!!!!!!!!

Love this. McRaven’s words give me goosebumps!
Me, too. As much as I love and admire and respect PBO, there is so much more we don’t know. He just boggles my mind.
So POTUS has no LEADERSHIP the clowns on the other side says.
I’ve thought for some time now that our President could have easily been a General or Admiral.
Me too Jackie!!!
I was just coming over here to post the same article, LOL…what a terrific story, and what a hero!
“It’s like having the decoder rings you used to get in Ovaltine jars in the old days.”
OMG that took me back a long, long time. Do they still sell Ovaltine?
Goosebumps!!
I was already all Verklempt from seeing the pics..they really do tell a story. Michelle’s face says it all.
And, now what McRaven says about P. Obama is everything I thought was going on. PBO has mad skills that can be applied to any situation. Thank you for this, LOL~
Thank you, Chips, for all the poignant historical pics!
Good morning all you fine TOD people! And there’s our awesome President addressing the troops! Woot!
Julie
Those are not expressions of people forced to be there listening out of respect to the CIC speak. Those are faces expressing joy, excitement and gratitude to their CIC upon speaking.
I know and it’s awesome to see! Funny how the wingers would have us believe the troops hate Obama. Every time I see him in the company of our military they seem really happy about it.
Wonderful to have a President who actually respects the sacrifice our military personnel make.
Julie
when I went to CNN’s website to see about watching the program I had a treat: “2.5 more Americans have health insurance…..” beause of Pres. Obama’s health care reform. Talking mainly about young people. Nice to see in mainstream website.
http://www.cnn.com/2011/12/14/health/health-insurance/index.html?hpt=hp_t1
Saw this tweet:
Troops cheer at Ft. Bragg as they see Air Force One land on Pope Field base runway
I have major goosebumps waiting for President and Mrs. Obama to speak. I think I’m going to cry, this is a huge day.
And by the way - way back when at a town hall where some wingnuts were attending, I held a poster outside saying something like I was glad my young adult daughter could stay on my insurance. Several wingnuts walking by responded that this just amounts to coddling, why can’t they get out on their own and be responsible, etc. Since I heard it so often I knew it had to be a right wing talking point.
making sure your child has health insurance is coddling?
They’re all moronic twits.
Right! Why can’t young people get out there and get one of those nonunion jobs the GOP is pushing that does not include healthcare or one of those big companiy jobs that give just enough hours of work to them so they do not have to pay healthcare or better yet the nonexistent jobs the so called coddled job creators have still to create?
Getting the chills.
Welcome Home ! Welcome Home ! Welcome Home !
Yes! Something the Vietnam vets never got.
That’s when the librul became a dirty word just like progressive has since 2008. The left sure knows how to shoot itslef, repeatedly.
It takes a President big enough to say the words: Welcome Home. The old days are over.
It sure does. And there is none bigger than this great man Barack Obama. He ROCKS!!!
That 9% is mostly Cuban. Maybe a few Argentinian and Colombian.
Yes Cuban as a 3rd generetion Mexican American I can assure you that the Cubans in Miami are mostly
Republican they have always been. Howeve the Latino population does and will vote for PBO I can
garanteed , so I I am not worried about the Cubans. Thank you mr president,
This Cuban couldn’t even think of voting GOP. Obamanos!
I was just about to say something about the Cubans really should get up to speed and see what the gop of today is doing to our country with their lies and destrutcion to our infrastucture. Why would they want to be a part of that?!
Nice to see your post, Liberal Liberian~
Sorry, I messed up Librarian, Liberal Librarian!
The 9 percent have lost their minds.
I think they are all of Rubio’s immediate and extended family.
Jackie, I agree, agree, agree.
The GOP may want to reconsider their thoughts of Marco Rubio as their Latino hero.
I am crying….this is one of his best. It is so passionate. Michelle’s was beautiful also.
I missed Michelle!
You gotta see it on Cspan…she was about to cry. Her voice was quivering.
Michelle was wonderful. I saw most of POTUS’ speech, but missed the end. I hope it will be on cspan soon.
Thank goodness I caught it all.
In fact, they are higher than Romney’s numbers among these same three key Republican groups.”
http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/12/nbcwsj-gingrich-hits-40-percent-among-gop-down-against-obama-by-11.php
this pictures make me cry and I thank you, Chipsticks.
one of my pet peeves is that the GOP, despite all their VOTES, get the ‘ they support the military’ cred.
which is utter bullshyt, because if it’s not for a DEFENSE CONTRACTOR, the average GOP legislator could give two shyts about ANYTHING that helps the average soldier.
I’M SO GLAD that both our President AND First Lady have been up front and center with any way that they can to help the AVERAGE SOLDIER.
and the Soldiers KNOW IT.
so, you can’t publish enough pics of POTUS, FLOTUS AND THE TROOPS.
THANK YOU, CHIPS.
How true about the GOP. I haven’t heard any of their “candidates” talk about the troops, other than wanting to start another war. Our troops know who is supporting them.
“because if it’s not for a DEFENSE CONTRACTOR, the average GOP legislator could give two shyts about ANYTHING that helps the average soldier.”
EXACTLY!!!
The Troops love their President and First Lady of course. The started cheering before they were even introduced..made me proud!
Thanks desert that is great news. Our Wisconsin brothers and sisters have definately been an inspiration to us in Ohio.
BBC FP Headline
He also focused on his commitment to ensuring veterans find the jobs and resources they need back home.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/mobile/world-us-canada-16186136
Wonderful speech….I don’t know what else to say except Thank You President Obama.
Flipping channels……Brett Baier whinning about no mention of Bush.
Next thing they’ll be criticizing the President for not thanking Bush for leaving him a ‘healthy’ economy.
I am glad he didn’t mention Bush at all.
Oh, me too. Why give ‘credit’ to a guy who started an illegal and pointless war that cost 100s of thousands of innocent lives, Iraqi and Allies?
Let Brett Baier mention G.W. Bush, President Obama and Michelle Obama was there to thank our troops, not thank Bush.
Another amazing, very moving, heartfelt speech by President Obama. Stirring, emotional, beautiful.
X100
loved the military band playing at the end. The military has some incredible musicians
You can tell how much this meant to POTUS, how much he was looking forward to this day. And FLOTUS gave all her heart to this one, too. Magnificent.
She stutters to.
Meow.
They also mocked and laughed at him when he said OBL was in Pakistan. He was right all along.
I remember Republicans and Clinton chucking at Obama’s “niavete” at promising to hunt down OBL in Pakistn (if necessary). Who’s chuckling now.
Hell just froze over
Halperin on the Obama’s at Ft. Bragg
OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yup, it just did! Not only did he say something nice about the Pres., he backhanded the Repubs! I guess even he can see that there are certain times in our lives that as a country, we come together as one — especially when it comes to our troops!
Mark Halperin is a DICK regardless.
Pound !
Oh dear - sprinkle a little holy water on the ground for safety.
LOL!!!
WHAT??!! are you puulling my leg LOL?
Nice things to say about Obama—oh heads, will roll gentlemen.
it’s official then. the world has come to an end.
Limp Dick. You make me laugh ALL the time!
it’s so funny.
Gergen on CNN….
” Best speech ”
teehee…..David….wake up….every speech is great. !
true Linda!
Balanced budget amendment fails. So sad. Lol!
Senate defeats rival balanced-budget amendments
By Josiah Ryan - 12/14/11 12:01 PM ET
The Senate on Wednesday defeated each party’s version of a constitutional amendment that would have required a balanced federal budget.
The rival proposals would have prohibited Congress from spending more each year than it receives in revenue.
http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/senate/199353-senate-defeats-rival-balanced-budget-amendments
Senator Lee is crying!
Jovie are you really sad?
Not!
Jovie, I didn’t think so.
Hehehe. Reid wouldn’t have brought it to the floor if it had a ghost of a chance of passing.
Chips you are making me cry. That photo of the soldier hugging FLOTUS!!! There are no words.
Is this real ? They look like something from Madame Toussards. Yikes. ( taken at fundraiser last night )

Now that is one creeeepy image. Is that who Americans want to look at every time there is a story about the President and FLOTUS?
I know….what would Clarissta’s signature mission be as First Lady ? Shopping and Cruising ? Yuk !
Well Linda thank God we won’t have to worry about Clarissta unless Newt runs again in 2016. First Lady Michelle Obama.
making Tiffany’s a national landmark.
She’d have children in the diamond mines after school earning less than minimum wage.
The headline of the story:
Newt Gingrich Hides Behind Curtains At Top-Secret Party In Georgetown . ( They were afraid of protesters )
Cruella De Vil —-that’s what I am reminded of.
It’s all that Botox. Ugh. Not very attractive.
IT’S GOING TO TAKE ME A LONG TIME TO GET OVER OUR FIRST COUPLE’S SPEECHES TODAY! THEY WARM MY HEART!
So sincere and so moving. What a day!!
What an amazing moment in our history. GREAT speeches of appreciation for our troops by both POTUS and FLOTUS. So proud of them and what this means for our country.
Did you guys see when our favorite mustached Secret Service guy helped FLOTUS down the stairs—-adorable.
I saw that. Such a gentlemen helping out our Flotus down the stairs.
missed it. wish there was a pic
Nope Cspan http://www.c-span.org/Events/President-Obama-Thanks-Troops-at-Fort-Bragg/10737426258/ around 35:05
CSPAN HAZ THE PRECIOUS……lol. Here is the Video guys

Thanks a million for the link LOL
GOP Sen. Coburn: My ‘Most Liberal’ Colleagues Are ‘More Intellectually Honest’ Regarding The Deficit
Wow.
I bet the first or second picture becomes the Photo of the Day on the WH blog.
Oh these images are amazing! Wonderful speech today, in fact I found myself getting choked up listening.
FOX NEWS: Troops Yawn as Commander in Chief fails to Inspire. Details at 9.
hahahhaa….
LOL. You betcha they’ll do it.
So funny. They would certainly do that.
FOXNews is not smarter than a 5th grader—mislabels Utah as Nevada and Vermont as N.H.
http://mediamatters.org/blog/201112130027
I’m so over these people. It’s like Mrs. Baxter’s 3rd Grade TV Production class over there.
Its no wonder people who don’t even watch the news know more than those who watch FOX News.
Can’t wait to see the speeches!
Good decision - good advice.
Good for you bonkers. Yahoo needs to boycotted and abandoned, AP as well!!!

Yes —-50 to 43 over Gingrich, 48-42 over Romney.
Is dkos freaking over it ? After all, it’s their own pollster.
Is DKos even relevant anymore? Does anyone in Dem circles quake in fear at their pronouncements? Meh. But I’m sure there are many people there that haz sads.
I know. I have my fun pinching toddlers…. Terrible, I know.
I was never really much of a reader there and never made an account or ever left a comment, but I think it’s been several months since I’ve clicked over there at all. Usually forget it even exists anymore. Feels good!
Missed the beginning so just watched that. What a rousing welcome for our president and first lady!
It’s not working for me.
Mr. President with his “Rock”! This is beautiful to see!
Speechless.
OMG, that image is AMAZING!
Look at all the happy faces! They are loving their CIC!
I saw that. It was so funny, he was holding his hand up in the air, waving it and saying he’d just shook the hand of POTUS. He was tripping out!!
I saw that, too funny!!! Our troops love their CIC.
Hey Meta, I know you have got to be kidding. This President doesn’t know how to connect with anyone.
POTUS and FLOTUS’ smiles are contagious.
They are both ultimate MAGNETS.
It says video temporarily unavailable. Am I the only one getting that?
OHM…that is so Great !!!!
Gorgeous, just gorgeous.
Second request to bring up house payroll tax bill, blocked by Grassley.
They are playing games!
Chips, could you host the video directly here please ? C span is not working for me. Thanks
Hi amk, I’m uploading to YouTube as we speak, but it’s taking FOREVER!
No worries. I’m patient as a three year old waiting for his icecream.

Gary Busey Unendorses Newt
“It is not time for me to be endorsing anyone at this time! When there are the two final candidates, then I will endorse,” Busey said Wednesday in a statement released through his representative. … Asked why Busey was withdrawing his endorsement, the actor’s spokesman said Busey “likes” Gingrich but “he is not endorsing anyone at this time.”
lol…he is waiting to endorse Trump.

Well done.
Good on Century 21 Real Estate! This is as it should be and I’m sure New York on the whole is so very glad Janice Daniels is no fan.
And like surgery, society would rather benefit from it than watch it.
http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2011/12/14/113313/88
Muchas Gracias for downloading it, Chips!
From what I have seen, TOD is the only place in the blogosphere that has any mention of this speech. They are all too busy with poll results, how sad.
The speech is fronted on CNN.com. It’s completely absent from MSNBC. “Lean Forward” indeed.
MSNBC has leaned so far forward, they have fallen flat on their face!!!
Oh brilliant - please tweet this to them!
Part 1:

I love you BHO
It is at the 43:40 minute mark.
)
yup. Just found it: 43:56. I love it! So cute
about WILLARD:
Quote For The Day
“I’m just going by my gut.

Ouch.
I thought the tea party was behind Gingrich?
It’s about Willard, not Newton Leroy.
Hiya everyone, I’ve updated this and the last thread, gotta disappear for an hour or two, will update more when I get back
Thanks Chips~

Thanks Jovie~ I can’t even imagine the Prez has time to watch tv but sounds like he’s able to catch a couple of shows that I don’t watch cause they don’t appeal to me. I’m glad he’s in People.. people get more of a chance to read about the President, FL Michelle, and their family without cable news trying to stab them..looking at you Tweety.

Clearly, he’s a victim of peer pressure

I’m not sure if this has been posted here already….cuz Mitt is the “gift that keeps on giving.”
Ooops! Forgot this: h/t GottaLaff and The Political Carnival.
Wait a minute. Who was that liberal Democrat?
Newt Gingrich boomlet seems to be fading already. His stance of “not going negative” is allowing Paul and Romney to attack the hell out of him with no fear of retribution and it’s having it’s desired effect. I guess “not going negative” just means “I’ve had my fun and am ready to cash in now”.
EXACTLY!
Fox is at it again.

LOL…..OMG! that’s hilarious.
OMG that is hilarious. Could they be anymore blatant
Ah, FOX.
“and you’re cute…I’m just sayin”
Love those two..
I can imagine the Obama team rubbing their hands. From TPM:

I hope linking to and quoting Andrew Sullivan is frowned upon here after this - http://andrewsullivan.thedailybeast.com/2011/12/ron-paul-for-the-gop-nomination.html
I did not know anyone read that site…..Tina Brown turns my stomach.
Though he considers himself a conservative Andrew Sullivan seems to me to be a very strong supporter of PBO. He is disgusted with the Republican party and is simply pointing out that Paul is the most honest and consistent of their candidates.
“Paul is the most honest and consistent of their candidates.”
and he is. I have said at least Paul has his convictions and everybody knows what they are. You may not agree with him but he is who he is.
://-
Nice guy!
McCain is rank alright.
John McCain is a silly old fool. His wife need to take his senile old self and put him in a nursing home. If fools like McCain have their way no troops would be coming home from Iraq. It is time for Iraqis to take care of Iraq.
We had no business over there in the first place. And now fools like McCain want our troops to stay there forever.
ugh. didn’t OldCain learn anything from the election, OBL and everything he’s challenged PBO on? The man is an ass with an ax to grind.
Martin Bashir reporting that Michelle and girls will depart Fri. for Hawaii—-without PBO, who is staying to get the payroll tax cut passed.
Miche and the girls leaving for Hawaii Firday. No mention of PBO will go. Some chick on Martin’s show said PBO said he will stay in Washington till a deal is agreed on and done. Curses on the heads of the repugs.
Yep Michelle takes her vacas seriously. Hawaii, Spain, and South Africa (ok that was a working trip). Hopefully he won’t be gone too long.
Try as you may Jessica, you really are very obvious!!!
Hia everyone, new post here:

McCain today on Obama/Iraq: “I believe that history will judge this president’s leadership with the scorn and disdain it deserves.”
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Wow. McCain is really bitter that Pres.Obama beat him.
Wow, has alzheimers set in for McCain? He is obviously delusion and yes bitter! Unreal!
Manchin being all Republican on Martin’s show.
Sen. Manchin is a Republican, he needs to take that D from behind his name. He is just awful…
Manchin is the consummate asshole!!!
Gosh cspan’s not working for me!!!
Great pics Chips. Awwww Miche wanted to cry, she’s really passionate about military families. PBO’s sweet opening line whenever he follows Miche always touches me. He loves her and she’s like a school girl; she gets really shy.
P, you notice that too about how Michelle seems to be shy , bashful. I just think the world of POTUS and FLOTUS.
When a maa-aan loves a woman! Yes indeed. Also our Beloved Warriror/Hero is fraternizing with our military warriors.
What a wonderful thing we are a part of here! And I am so proud of Michelle, and the Prez.Their love for one another, and this Country really shows!”HOORAH!!!!!!!!
