As a 63 year old survivor of sex abuse when I was a young adolescent, a devout Catholic boy, who went to the seminary at age 15, only to be abused also there, i echo the words about contempt for the Roman Catholic Church. There are many good Catholics who reject this kind of interference by the pope in the lives of American women. Our beloved president has shown remarkable patience with this, but keeping his promise to keep women’s health care accessible for all American women.
I am truly sorry for your experience, I am hoping that all this attention on the Catholic Church will shift the focus back to their hypocritical policies.
Bill all of thoughts are with you. The abuse came VERY close to my family too. Rudy Kos in Ennis Texas had my nephew in his Parish. One of many boys that went to the Rectory after school. Says nothing happened but you never know. This priest stole many children’s souls after many years. My husband went all the way through Catholic School. He can still say Mass in Latin but, has NOT gone back to church since then.
Bill, I applaud your courage for sharing this painful experience in your life. I know many good and decent Catholics, including my daughter, who share your views.
Jake Tapper - With the White House under fire for its new rule requiring employers including religious organizations to offer health insurance that fully covers birth control coverage, at 12:15 p.m. ET, President Obama will announce an attempt to accommodate these religious groups.
The move, based on state models, will almost certainly not satisfy bishops and other religious leaders since it will preserve the goal of women employees having their birth control fully covered by health insurance.
Sources say it will be respectful of religious beliefs but will not back off from that goal, which many religious leaders oppose since birth control is in violation of their religious beliefs.
One source familiar with the decision described the accommodation as “Hawaii-plus,” insisting that it’s better than the Hawaii plan — for both sides.
I don’t care for Tapper’s phrasing “with the WH under fire.” No Jake, it’s the Bishops, GOP and Media who have their hair on fire because the Republican party is increasingly showing signs of humiliating DEFEAT at the polls come November 2012.
Please, don’t get me started with Jake “The Snarl” Tapper. The coverage of this contraception issue has been abysmal. A total embarrassment. We deserve better. The jackals were salivating because they didn’t want to cover all of the positive news. The thought of a potential political problem for PBO produced depraved glee. They were all too happy to push the GOP talking points. You will notice, there wasn’t a lot of reporting of the facts. It was cynical election year drama cooked up for political expediency. I can’t tell you the number of times I just felt dirty watching this spectacle. The urge to take a shower at every turn has been overwhelming.
Oh, hopefruit, you make so much sense! I deeply love and respect your fearlessness in rejecting the media’s manufactured outrages against President Obama.
Women’s health as political football: the game goes on without us
by Kay
I understand President Obama is going to announce an “accommodation” to the demands of the Catholic Church and media regarding US health care. I’ll wait and see what he says, and if I have time today I’ll try to figure out how this accommodation might affect me and mine. I don’t know that I’ll be around at 11 for the announcement.
I’m not really surprised he’s compromising. The church planned the political campaign 7 months in advance of the (alleged) “firestorm”, so there was always an end game here.
I am grateful to him for making the public health argument on my behalf. As far as I’m concerned, he was the only person operating out of a genuine concern for women’s health, rather than treating women’s health as a political football or proxy for some other, unrelated, larger moral or political crusade.
He did his job, and he acted in good faith, which is more than I can say for the bishops and their multi-millionaire media mouthpieces. On that, I have to say, I haven’t seen the multi-millionaire cable tv stars and media personalities this incensed in years, back since they were selling the invasion of Iraq. Who knew they were so vitally concerned with limiting access to contraception? Eye-opening, to say the least. Do you think we get them on board to lobby this hard to help working people? They’re impressive when they join together and link arms in a campaign like this. I see a lot of potential for good there.
You guys, if you have the chance, please go to Jezebel and comment in their thread on this. Jezebel is a feminist site. And they do tend to be hair on fire emoprogs with no facts. If you could just go there and post a reply supporting the president and clarifying his position, it would be really helpful. Believe it or not, there are still some PUMAS over there, but many people are open minded but live and die by MSNBC. Most of them like the President but are always “disappointed” with him because this is all they hear on tv.
you know it. those guys have a special place waiting for them. It’s nice and hot and toasty. bastards. Covering up pedophiles and ignoring crimes against humanity all while living it up swearing piety. Religion is like Communism. It’s good in theory, but humans always muck it up.
About What They Deserve
by BooMan

This appears to be exactly the middle finger that the Bishops deserve:
On a conference call with reporters Friday, a senior administration official announced that the White House will move the onus to provide women free contraceptive services to insurance companies if their religiously-affiliated employers object to providing insurance coverage that covers birth control.
“All women will still have access to free preventive care that includes contraceptive services,” the official said. “The insurance company will be required to reach out directly and offer her contraceptive coverage free of charge,” if the employer objects to providing that coverage in its benefit package.
In other words, if you offer your employees a health benefit package, your female employees are going to get free contraceptive coverage regardless of whether or not you directly authorize it. It can be part of your benefits package, or not. The result will be the same.
PBO, as we know, shall speak shortly. Ms. Chip would tell everybody that I have been part of the TOD fam for a bit. Just don’t post all that often. But, I canNOT TELL you, like many of you, how often I’m here throughout the day.
Fam, in looking at the anxiety shown by many of us, including our dear Ms. Chip, it’s something I can appreciate. And, this is a culture war issue that the other side is throwing out. At least to me, admittedly I’m a guy, PBO is handling the matter well and women continue to be affirmed. As we go forward, and, particularly if this is pretty much all they got, we are most certainly gonna see more of this mess. But, I really do believe that PBO has been rather consistent in how he handles pretty much all matters. That would be, at least imo, perhaps not perfectly - whatever that would be - but DEFINITELY WELL. To me, he’s EARNED our support.
It’s gonna get rocky from time to time. Indeed….LET’S STAY TOGETHER. Encourage one another. And, trust the President to do the absolute best he can for us all.
And, dearest Ms. Chip…..kinda like PBO said to the Treasury Secretary??? Ohhhh, no…..you canNOT shut THE OBAMA DIARY down. ‘Fraid not, girlfriend. There’s a LOT of work to do and you are OH so VERY important in seeing it through.
well said blackman! we adore you chips. just think of how many of us would have to go on anti-depressants without your coverage of PBO! We must press on, we must!
Me too Tien! Me too! PBO is a political chess master. Women - some of whom might have been in doubt for whatever reason - now know who is 100% in their corner. He exposed the misogyny of the right, the inferior manner in which they regard women, the hypocrisy of the Catholic Bishops and Leaders (all males I might add with no bloody uterus) and then BOOM! he solves the faux ginned up controversy.
Even worse than the sanctimonious right-wing men were the sanctimonious right-wing WOMEN. Somebody had to fight hard for their right to even be where they are, and they’re so willing to throw other women under the bus. Disgusting.
PBO was just masterfull to Jake Taper and the rest of the WH press fuck you all we watched PBO
remarks this Am on BC the MSM and the GOP wants it to be a political wadge, but is not going
to work 99% of women used BC and this should be the end of this so call contraversial issue IS
ABOUT THE HEALTH OF WOMEN and women should make their own choices on this matter .
The MSM and the GOP are going to spin this one 1000, but it will not work.
That is exactly what I was thinking. I think he had the legislation made stricter than the state laws so that the bishops et al could go off on a fiery tangent. Then when their agenda - taking contraception out of the ACA altogether - was revealed, he had a good fall back position (although I thought it would be because he needed a bargaining chip in the debt ceiling/payroll tax/whatever fight that’s coming up.
Chips, you deal with the nastiness every day far more than we do. It’s understandable that that underlying tension combined with your passion for this issue would make it very hard to deal with. But we know you are not a one-issue. make-or-break person. I hope all the love and support for you here quiets your heart and soothes your soul. We all know PBO is working for us, getting whatever he can, and never letting go. Plus Michelle would kill him.
Now the American people will get some important facts about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act as it relates to women directly from President Obama. Some Americans may be hearing these facts for the very first time.
I agree. And “branding” it as an “accommodation” just adds to the brilliance. Gets what he/we want for the most part, and at the same time wins the moral high road over the nutjobs, who aren’t willing to compromise at all.
Okay, so Stanley Ann’s son will solve this mess, and the MegaMedia will trot out the next nonsense to try to suppress the DemocratIC vote. Each person who reads here can decide how they will respond next time, which my guess will be within a week.
Well said. I never bet against this POTUS, his brilliance, and his goodwill. The media always sets up every scenario as a cage match, for their ratings. It’s horrible for the country, and I appreciate President Obama’s leadership in this regard.
I agree, and it’s hard not to, as the media jumps from crisis to crisis to crisis to crisis, always pitting every scenario as a cage match fight, leaving people dizzy, exhausted, and overly reactionary. I know that I sound like a wingnut here, but I haven’t trusted the media since I was a child, because I saw how people’s lives get ruined in their sensations (most notably, the Central Park jogger case in which the media played judge, jury, and executioner of what turned out to be a perfectly innocent set of young boys who ended up spending the best years of their lives in jail because of the sensationalism). When they’re arming the mob, I never trust it. When they’re declaring this or that trumped up controversy to the epic battle of the ages, I never believe them.
Another TODer said it best in that it’s wise for people to be gentle with each other, and support each other, when these hysterias hit. It’s not easy to resist.
AMEN, GC! I’m old enough to remember the McCarthy days when people were being terrorized over communists hiding under our beds. Even the media, which was much better then, was afraid to speak out. “Fear is a mind killer and a little death…”
We need to let go of fear and STAND! NO RETREAT! NO SURRENDER! Support our President and elect more Dems for Congress. WE ARE IN THIS TO WIN! I WILL NOT BE MOVED FROM THIS!
@whitehouse @BarackObama You just won big for women. Brilliant solution. Now, if the GOP want to attack women, they're fully exposed. TY— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) February 10, 2025
USA - Let's give thanks to the Bishops & GOP fellow misogynists for accelerating the process of providing every women with free BC Rx #OBAMA— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) February 10, 2025
Yep. AND FOLKS here I go again you can write or tweet your thanks or pat on the back or send some love to PBO (their online comments are down for maintenance……) Numbers then:
What I love about this is that the Republican Party (I’m looking at you Marco Rubio and John Boehner) are joined at the hip with the Catholic bishops now. They are introducing legislation to limit access to contraception. What will they say now that their talking point about religious freedom has been pulverized.
Game. Set. Matchpoint. And oh yes, Hopefruit, Checkmate. PBO is a political chess master. He quietly unveils this BC mandate, the rightwing and their media hacks freak out, expose their misogyny, expose how they view women as inferior beings, exposes the Catholic Bishops and Leaders (all males I might add. Nary a uterus in sight) and their archaic antiquated views, then comes out and delivers this beautiful line. “All women should have access to free birth control and healthcare reform sees to that.” Clips of his WH press briefing will be played all over the airwaves in 50 states and the one thing people and women in particular will take away is that thanks to President Obama, they now have FREE BIRTH CONTROL. NO PREMIUMS. NO CO-PAY. BOOYAH!!!!!!! Gotta love PBO’s genius.
I’m sure strings will be attached. I can’t imagine that PBO and Holder will allow the money to go out without some pretty tight strings. They remember what happened with the stimulus money. Plus PBO is aware that the housing crisis is tied to whether PBO feel as though the economy is getting better and it’s tied to his reelection. He’s not sitting pretty on this one. there are gonna be strings out the wazoo. Don’t know what that dumbass Walker is thinking, but it ain’t gonna happen.
I don’t think he is allowed to do this. Besides Walker is toast with whipped cream, your choice of other toppings and a big fat cherry on top! He will be recalled and very lucky he doesn’t end up in jail he is so corrupt. GO WISCONSIN! TAKE THIS MUTANT GOATFIGGER DOWN!
I think it’s pretty clear the public will be quite satisfield with this “compromise.” Most people value the availability of contraceptives, they certainly will appreciate them being offered at no cost, and, as much as the hardcore right and left hate the idea of compromise, i think it, once again, shows that PBO is the only person willing to solve a problem instead of just screaming exaggerated insults at his political opponents.
As a side comment, I must say that I think President Obama’s microphones were small and silly-looking. I miss those bign honking things they usually have at the podium. But, i guess that’s not really all that important.
Excellent! Now the GOP and the Roman Church can rail away, but they are revealed as cheap woman haters who are dishonest in their statements. It’s great to have a president who can speak clearly and choose wisely.
I posted this on the last thread….something to chew on.
From Fox News’ poll….
The poll asked about the Obama administration requiring all employer health plans to provide birth control coverage as part of preventative services for women. (This includes Catholic and other religious-affiliated hospitals and universities that oppose doing so because it violates their religious rights.) A majority sides with the administration: 61 percent of voters approve of the requirement, while 34 percent disapprove. There’s a wide gender gap, as women (67 percent) are significantly more likely than men (53 percent) to approve. Catholics (58 percent) and Protestants (57 percent) alike approve of the requirement. And a majority of Catholic women (65 percent) as well as half of Catholic men (51 percent) also back the mandate.
So when will we stop getting opinion journalism, rather than facts journalism? Every poll has shown the same thing, yet we are constantly treated to this as if it were some big scandal. Just like Solyndra, Fast and Furious, the media is creating controversy to get some clicks and eyeballs on their website and/or shows. If there were ever a culprit responsible for the divide of this country…All fingers would point to the media. They treat policy, not politics, as if it were some sport. Women’s health issues is not a sport. I especially find it utterly amazing that the majority of those yapping the loudest are the ones who don’t have to worry about it.
Trust me annie, we all have had periods of doubt especially with this toxic media - it’s difficult to NOT get discouraged. But I think our Chips will be okay - she has our President’s back even when she disagrees. So I wouldn’t worry too much
USA - #NEWSTAINERS have failed you, over and over. They are not journalists & they are lousy entertainers. Turn off MSM. Be the 4th Estate.— Bobfr (@Our4thEstate) February 10, 2025
“Turn off MSM. Be the 4th Estate”
“We are the change we’ve been waiting for. We are the media we’ve been waiting for.”
Bravo Bobfr and Liberal Librarian! What you advocate is exactly what we must do in order to avoid being discouraged and disappointed whenever the MSM decide to manufacture outrage and controversy against President Obama.
As a woman, I am so proud of my President this afternoon. So proud. He ALWAYS stands by the side of women. ALWAYS! Let us never forget. Not only is he Michelle’s husband, ut he is Dr. Ann Dunham’s child. He was raised by a pragmatic feminist who made it her mission to uplift women out of abject poverty. Her son would never waiver on birth control.
Those were my thoughts exactly thank you itugrl_29 for saying so succinctly. PBO would never let the women in his life down like that….plus Michelle was not sweating it, so why should we? Please remember everyone, when the next time the media, pundits (left and right), and GOP think they have the president on the ropes with what we know is a faux issue…..

My guess Christi, is that Rev Al, et al are required by management to have her on so they can TRY to increase viewership of her program. I agree that she’s annoying but I also love my mute button.
The president has offered a perfect solution. He established the health of women as a foremost principle and said that making contraception freely available is and always will be the right thing to do for all women no matter who they are and where they work. He gave Catholic institutions a way to maintain their “purity” by putting the burden on health insurance companies. Women do NOT lose. Women were not compromised. Let all the Republicans start screaming because the president did not throw women to the wolves. Oh please let them scream until their ugly misogyny is clear as glass to every woman in America.
The president has spoken and put this issue aside and Republicans had better watch out because he’s aiming his guns on their obstinacy with the tax extension and UE. They’d better start whining and get back to work or they are going to be tarred with the stain of stalling an improving economy and undermining the middle class. Game on.
me too meta, he is my hero no question about it. He just makes me feel safe and in good hands. He never ceases to amaze me. The wisdom he displays at every turn is astonishing. I just don’t know where he came from. But I am glad he is ours.
Well said meta! He is all you said plus being creative and politically astute. He never looses sight of his goals even when he realizes that he has to change his tactics. I wish all of us who support his goals consistently, and strongly, mobilized to protect him when he is under media attacks.
The juxtapositon of President Obama’s brilliant statement on the contraception coverage and the unhinged and radical speakers at the CPAC Convention could not be more stark.
Ok this may sound like hyperbole but is this president fabulous or what? The only adult in the room !!!
And congratulations to the staff on the Obama team who worked on that. From the president’s words, they had to do the work of several months in just a couple of weeks. We sometimes forget that the incredible achievements of President Obama are due in good part to his exceptionnal cabinet and staff.
The Obama team found the solution without compromising on an important principle. And the bonus: it will be a big win politically. Watch the republicans get egg in their faces. Watch them double down on their extremism and lose support from the independants.
What a great day. There will still be some noise and ugliness, but it will be irrelevant. It’s a win for women, for President Obama and democrats, and most of all, a win for fairness and common-sense.
Next: the payroll taxcut fight. Gosh, this presidency is one for the history books.
I’m in class so I couldn’t see the speech (crappy wifi in this building) but judging from the comments. PBO knocked it outta the park as usual. Can’t wait to see the video.
It was another GREAT moment among so many great moments. Wait until you see how he sets the whole issue and everyone who has been browbeating it straight. Very clear and very forceful language. No ambiguity whatsoever. This man is an amazing force FOR GOOD.
This whole thing reminds me of the 2008 general election with all the slinkerwinks chicken littling and Al Giordano calling them on it. I have to admit feeling nervous about this issue and am so glad to be reminded of how easy it is to get caught up in the media and emoprog freak outs. I kept telling myself: “Just wait and hear the President”, over and over, like a mantra. And lo and behold, he not only did the right thing but gave the repubs. the time to show America how extreme they are.
I’m so very glad that you’re getting TPV exposure for your brilliant work. Personally, I think that’s going to be just the beginning. Pleaes don’t forget to post here too.
President Obama is trending on Twitter. Folks are quite happy with his little “STFU” speech to the Media and GOP. Can’t wait to see Tweety’s fake-ass rebuttal, and LOD’s face saving lecture tonight.
That’s right! Folks appreciate their President because they know someone is on their side. And they know it’s NOT the GOP, or the Bishops, or Tweety and media.
I truly, truly hope that his adversaries never learn from their mistakes against him. He catches them flatfooted every time. Their blind hatred makes our job that much easier.
The compromise is that if religious institutions opt not to offer free contraceptive care, then the insurance companies have to offer it directly to women who request it. Effing brilliant.
Basically he said that those who are too precious in their holier-than-thou to allow their employees access to freaking birth control in their health care plans can thump their bibles in the corner—the rest of us will move on without them, and the insurance companies will make sure that employees are able to access these plans. /okay, I may have put my little spin into that lol
Good Day TOD Family. I watched my President, and I must continue to say, “Thank you, Mr. President for standing tall and making fair and just decisions ring true from your lips to our ears. HZ
I hope Rs will support #Obama's decision, which has already gained support from the Catholic Health Org. & Planned Parenthood #Health1st— Senator Harry Reid (@SenatorReid) February 10, 2025

On a lighter note, isn’t it fun watching Romney squirm? I mean really, this guy is running for a party that doesn’t want anything to do with him. Yes Mitt, the GOP is saying you’re number #1, but they’re using the wrong finger.
That was the most MASTERFUL, non-cave, I’ve ever witnessed in my LIFE.
ZOMFG.
Caught it as I was leaving for my office - which happens to be a small insurance agency, so I KNOW.
ROFLMMFAO.
Of COURSE no one understands how insurance actually WORKS.
Did the bishops really think THEY were going to get a bill for their employees BIRTH CONTROL???? HAAAAAAAAA!
THE INSURANCE COMPANIES ALREADY PAY FOR IT YOU TOOLS!!! All the employers pay (if that) are the PREMIUMS.
Anyone who tries to spin this as “Obama caves” is a GOP heart and soul. The POTUS just blew his GOP DOG WHISTLE, and the ones barking are outing themselves.
yep, as I always said about PBO, nothing he does is coincidental. Not to mention that now all women get to hear about what they are not entitled to for FREE. Before, only if you were paying attention did a women know what was going on. This way it’ll be covered even on local news. Also too, aren’t we getting one step closer to removing health care from an employee based delivery system.
So well said, Tally! They look ridiculous, fighting over birth control. POTUS basically said to these zealots, you can live in the dark ages if you’d like, you have every right to do so, and the rest of us will simply move on without you. Not an ounce of negativity towards anyone in this. Just utterly perfect, and this is the type of leadership and decision-making which is worth breaking the bank for.
And they also don’t understand that those premiums are put into a larger pool and can actually pay for treatments for a person covered under a different policy that may cover “gasp” abortions.
Republicans Retreat on Domestic Violence
Published: February 9, 2025
Even in the ultrapolarized atmosphere of Capitol Hill, it should be possible to secure broad bipartisan agreement on reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, the 1994 law at the center of the nation’s efforts to combat domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. The law’s renewal has strong backing from law enforcement and groups that work with victims, and earlier reauthorizations of the law, in 2000 and 2005, passed Congress with strong support from both sides of the aisle.
Yet not a single Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted in favor last week when the committee approved a well-crafted reauthorization bill introduced by its chairman, Senator Patrick Leahy, and Senator Michael Crapo, a Republican of Idaho, who is not on the committee.
The bill includes smart improvements aimed, for example, at encouraging effective enforcement of protective orders and reducing the national backlog of untested rape kits. The Republican opposition seems driven largely by an antigay, anti-immigrant agenda. The main sticking points seemed to be language in the bill to ensure that victims are not denied services because they are gay or transgender and a provision that would modestly expand the availability of special visas for undocumented immigrants who are victims of domestic violence — a necessary step to encourage those victims to come forward.

CHRONICLING MITTS MENDACITY
============================
1. Romney claimed, “We are the only people on the earth that put our hand over our heart during the playing of the national anthem. It was FDR who asked us to do that, in honor of the blood that was being shed by our sons and daughters in far-off places.”
This is both untrue and rather strange.
2. Romney argued in a speech, “You know, like his colleagues in the faculty lounge, who think they know better, President Obama demonizes and denigrates almost every sector of our economy.”
Asked to back that up, the Romney campaign pointed to President Obama’s criticism of Wall Street recklessness, insurance company abuses, and oil companies. If those three represent “almost every sector of our economy,” then Romney doesn’t understand the private sector as well as he thinks he does.
Hi
How does it feel?!
I’m first???
Almost!!!
Thanks for sharing, Bill R. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I am truly sorry for your experience, I am hoping that all this attention on the Catholic Church will shift the focus back to their hypocritical policies.
I am so sorry…BillR…thank you for sharing your story…((huggs))

More here: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2012/02/white-house-to-announce-accommodation-for-religious-organizations-on-contraception-rule/
So are you still concerned with this regulation?
I don’t care for Tapper’s phrasing “with the WH under fire.” No Jake, it’s the Bishops, GOP and Media who have their hair on fire because the Republican party is increasingly showing signs of humiliating DEFEAT at the polls come November 2012.
Yes.

You know, Jakie’s got to get his little dig in, but he’s still eating crow!

Seventh!
Lol…7′s a lucky number.
I’m going to watch it online because I don’t want to listen to these so called ”analysts” , pundits…..sick of the noise.
Maybe you could post a link to here over there?
http://jezebel.com/5883986/obama-to-announce-birth+control-compromise-that-satisfies-no-one
I meant, post a link at that site directing them to *this* site so they can get the real deal.
Wish the Catholic church had monitered the pedophilic priests as closely as they are monitoring womens’ reproductive health issues and uteruses.
you know it. those guys have a special place waiting for them. It’s nice and hot and toasty. bastards. Covering up pedophiles and ignoring crimes against humanity all while living it up swearing piety. Religion is like Communism. It’s good in theory, but humans always muck it up.

About What They Deserve
by BooMan
Fri Feb 10th, 2012 at 11:44:06 AM EST

THIS x infinity!
Fanned and Faved!
well said blackman! we adore you chips. just think of how many of us would have to go on anti-depressants without your coverage of PBO! We must press on, we must!
I just love this tweet from Milt Shook.

Obama started this BC controversy, got the RW to demonstrate misogyny, and has now solved the problem. This guy is a political genius.

Yep. Perfection itself. I love my President.
Disgusting.
Beautiful tweet, beautiful statement.
“Obama started this BC controversy, got the RW to demonstrate misogyny, and has now solved the problem. This guy is a political genius.”
My President is Amazing!!!
Totally agree about the political genius thingy.Go Milt!!
So True. Thanks Ladyhawke for Shook’s Tweet~
No woman’s health should be determined by their work—-
Now the American people will get some important facts about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act as it relates to women directly from President Obama. Some Americans may be hearing these facts for the very first time.
I agree. I’d imagine that most of the country isn’t aware of the no-cost birth control provisions.
I just wonder how many conservative women are on BC right now? .
99% the other 1% would be the Dugger Family
The new way sounds like a win win to me. It makes it an issue of women rights and not some discombobulated notion of religious freedom. It’s all good.
I’m typically a lurker!
I keep saying never panic about PBO he is brilliant.
Couldn’t agree more, AG!
Our President is awesome.
Game, Match, Point = PBO. You. Are. Integrity.

See? Non-troversy. Women get access to free birth control. Period.
and that is what he said would happen. not sure how that got lost in the conversations.

That’s it!
That’s right , not much of a compromise. Rights of all women will be protected!!!
THE ONLY ADULT IN THE ROOM HAS SPOKEN ELOQUENTLY ABOUT CONTRACEPTION COVERAGE.
Thank You President Obama for protecting women’s rights to preventive healthcare no matter where they work.
Chips, are you okay? xoxox
I just stole your last line and tweeted it to the white house - thx LH !
This is outrageous…..This happened with billions of Recovery Act Money also…….Why is there no controls on how the money is spent ?
Gov. Scott Walker To Use Foreclosure Settlement Money To Balance His Budget, Not Help Homeowners
http://thinkprogress.org/
Disgusting - I hope there is plenty pushback on this in Wisconsin.
He has been spouting that his budget is balanced for almost a year. This will not fly.
Walker is already skating on think ice with the recall and corruption charges, I hope this one sinks him.
Checkmate
I think it’s pretty clear the public will be quite satisfield with this “compromise.” Most people value the availability of contraceptives, they certainly will appreciate them being offered at no cost, and, as much as the hardcore right and left hate the idea of compromise, i think it, once again, shows that PBO is the only person willing to solve a problem instead of just screaming exaggerated insults at his political opponents.
As a side comment, I must say that I think President Obama’s microphones were small and silly-looking. I miss those bign honking things they usually have at the podium. But, i guess that’s not really all that important.
SAY WHAT???…MICROPHONES WERE SMALL AND SILLY LOOKING…HUH???
don’t you worry none, this president still has some big’uns where it counts, and the message was heard loud and clear!
Excellent! Now the GOP and the Roman Church can rail away, but they are revealed as cheap woman haters who are dishonest in their statements. It’s great to have a president who can speak clearly and choose wisely.
Precisely, Bill!

Yes We Must
LET THE GOP POUTRAGE BEGIN
===========================
The Only Adult In The Room just sent the Republican Party to their room to sit and pout at the children’s table.
Yes ma’am, Ladyhawke, and amen.
—————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
So when will we stop getting opinion journalism, rather than facts journalism? Every poll has shown the same thing, yet we are constantly treated to this as if it were some big scandal. Just like Solyndra, Fast and Furious, the media is creating controversy to get some clicks and eyeballs on their website and/or shows. If there were ever a culprit responsible for the divide of this country…All fingers would point to the media. They treat policy, not politics, as if it were some sport. Women’s health issues is not a sport. I especially find it utterly amazing that the majority of those yapping the loudest are the ones who don’t have to worry about it.
Okay Chipsticks what do you think? We value your opinion.
Trust me annie, we all have had periods of doubt especially with this toxic media - it’s difficult to NOT get discouraged. But I think our Chips will be okay - she has our President’s back even when she disagrees. So I wouldn’t worry too much
Bazinga! Obama solves the problem masterfully by respectfully flipping off the bishops without antagonizing his base. We are fired up and ready to go!

This.
And he is the father of two daughters, which no doubt factors in his thoughts as well.
And his Grandma too - let’s not forget she had a hand in raising him too and he consistently shows his respect and understanding of women.

I don’t know what’s going on on Now with Alex but I see a lot of tweets about her giggling and laughing….to stop it….
I’m getting really annoyed about watching Rev. Al., Martin Bashir or LO and hearing….”for more on the subject, our guest tonight is Alex Wagner.”…
She’s freaking everywhere.
Well …I won’t watch her no matter what show she is on….
Game on.
THAT right there is my President. Clear, strong, compassionate and RESOLUTE. BRAVO, Mr. President. Again and again and again.
me too meta, he is my hero no question about it.
As Sully would say in his clear-headed cycles: Meep Meep!
Indeed. Just read the article on the compromise on TPM. Meep meep indeed.
Lovepolitics 2008, I thank you for your “fabulous” comment! I totally agree with everything you wrote.
I missed the President’s presser. If anyone finds a link, please share.
Blog pimping alert: my first post on TPV should be published some time later today. Quite timely given today’s shellacking of the Church by PBO.
Aw, LL, we are so proud of you. I’m getting a little verklempt just thinking about it. I am looking forward to your post later day.

President Obama is trending on Twitter. Folks are quite happy with his little “STFU” speech to the Media and GOP. Can’t wait to see Tweety’s fake-ass rebuttal, and LOD’s face saving lecture tonight.
@nospin Its on cspan.org
Any statement issued from the loony side? Boehner? or any of the candidates/clowns?
Twitter is exploding with praise for President Obama.
That’s right! Folks appreciate their President because they know someone is on their side. And they know it’s NOT the GOP, or the Bishops, or Tweety and media.
I truly, truly hope that his adversaries never learn from their mistakes against him. He catches them flatfooted every time. Their blind hatred makes our job that much easier.
oops, timing is everything, now what will Mitt, Newt and all those Sunday pundits have to talk about now? Lol
Hey TOD, maybe slow Lol, I thought President Obama clarified…so I am still looking for
the compromise, some please explain. Thanks.
The compromise is that if religious institutions opt not to offer free contraceptive care, then the insurance companies have to offer it directly to women who request it. Effing brilliant.
Thanks, so women still are covered no matter what that is what I thought….once again out maneuvered.
OT, ummm… President Obama looked hot delivering the slapdown lol.
You are too damn funny, gn. BTW, always good to “see” you. xoxo.
Great to see you too, Pamela, as always!
Andy46, I m still looking for the cave.
Both bbc and teann didn’t carry the speech. Any linky ?

And, a more direct message to them:

On a lighter note, isn’t it fun watching Romney squirm? I mean really, this guy is running for a party that doesn’t want anything to do with him. Yes Mitt, the GOP is saying you’re number #1, but they’re using the wrong finger.
Not to mention that animals and children aren’t that crazy about him either.
Hollering!!!
I would argue they are using the “correct” finger when it comes to Robme..the middle finger.
FUCKING MASTERFUL.
Amen (pun intended)!
Tell it tally.
yep, as I always said about PBO, nothing he does is coincidental. Not to mention that now all women get to hear about what they are not entitled to for FREE. Before, only if you were paying attention did a women know what was going on. This way it’ll be covered even on local news. Also too, aren’t we getting one step closer to removing health care from an employee based delivery system.
s/b ‘entitled’ to instead of ‘not entitled’ to
So well said, Tally!
Testify!
And they also don’t understand that those premiums are put into a larger pool and can actually pay for treatments for a person covered under a different policy that may cover “gasp” abortions.
Hey, Tally, mind if I steal your comment if/when I meet an emoprog?
Pam, you are FAMILY. What’s mine is YOURS.
Tally, you are master at going to the heart of the matter in explaining things.
I think we need that “I have got this” picture again
POTUS = B.R.I.L.L.I.A.N.T.
I’m close to cutting ties with the Catholic Church.
This whole ruckus really has soured me on the Church. It just seems so sleazy to be fighting this fight. :/
Sleazy is an apt description, DI.
DId she speak already? I see Romney on my screen…………
REPEAT AFTER ME:
GOP WAR ON WOMEN!
…………………………….

I tell you what, we need to make sure that our President is reelected. He is the best for this country.
Mae, you are dam right about that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree 1000%!
Hey GOP/Teathugs, this is for you:
Hug this up GOP/ Tea thugs:
Have I said how much I love Steve Benen lately?? These Friday posts on Willard and his penchant for lying are just terrific. There is an endless supply of material. Willard is a flip flopping pathological liar and Steve is one of the few people calling him out on it. The mendacity chronicled below does not include the CPAC convention mendacity. That will be covered next weeks roundup. Way to go Steve……
CHRONICLING MITTS MENDACITY
============================
