Alexie’s book “The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is on the list in the article.
Morrison’s “Beloved” is listed, but “The Bluest Eye” just got slammed as “pornography” by some muckety high up in the Ohio state educ department, so that pretty much might as well be an official ban too.
With each one of these UN speeches, President Obama becomes ever more impressive. He truly is a world leader. He brings the term: ” Leader of the Free World” to life, in fact…
was just coming to highlight the story about FLOTUS’ event;
Michelle Obama calls Harlem a cultural gem
NEW YORK — Extolling the virtues of Harlem’s rich cultural history, Michelle Obama hosted a luncheon for the spouses of foreign dignitaries Tuesday in the historic New York City neighborhood she described as “quintessentially American.”
The first lady spoke to about 50 spouses of chiefs of state and heads of government who are attending the UN General Assembly. The group toured The Studio Museum in Harlem, which was founded in 1968 by artists and civic and community leaders to provide space for modern and contemporary black art.
“There’s a reason why I wanted to bring you all to Harlem today,” said Obama, who was wearing a blue and white dress by Carolina Herrera. “And that is because this community … is infused with a kind of energy and passion that is quintessentially American, but that has also touched so many people around the world.”
Obama discussed Harlem’s place in the early 20th century as the heart of black culture in the U.S., pointing to famous writers and musicians like Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston and Louis Armstrong.
Can I just say how much I love waking up in the morning knowing I’ll be exceedingly proud of my POTUS in whatever he undertakes on any given day? PBO is a MASTER. He knows of what he speaks and he is conscious of his audience at all times. Wonderful, wonderful day for President Obama. A lot of ground has been gained through his thoughtful speech and action. WOOOOOTT!!!!
Isn’t that the truth? I am so proud of him—-that he’s our president—-at every appearance. We can send him anywhere for any reason and he shines brilliantly. I remember slinking down in the couch and hiding behind a pillow in embarrassment at every W appearance. Now I sit up and beam with pride and often applaud.
Irony? Example of their cluelessness? Just showing some sense?
“Welcome to the NRA convention. Leave your guns at the door.
Would I lie? At the North Carolina convention center in Charlotte, you cannot carry guns. Oh, you got your Sarah Palin, your Glen Beck, your Ollie North, but not your little friend.
‘North Carolina State law prohibits the carrying of firearms in the Charlotte Convention Center, and the Time Warner Cable Arena. In addition, the Rules and Regulations of the Charlotte Convention Center prohibit the carrying of firearms in the Center. Pursuant to Time Warner Cable Arena policy, all individuals entering the Arena will be subject to a magnetometer security check.’
One rule for RWNJs, one rule for us. Although, I do believe that these guys have no insight, period. Whoever okayed and whoever booked the venue, like all current top GOP leaders, have tunnel vision.
The health care discussion was better than I expected. Former Prez. Clinton did not monopolize the questions and the answers. He gave Prez. Obama his due respect.
Wow. I never watch Hardball but had it muted and saw an image Chris was showing that compared McCarthy to Cruz, so I turned up the volume. An actual U.S. congressman - Jim Moran (D-VA) - called an actual U.S. senator - Cruz (R-TX) - “an arrogant elitist” who was manipulating people who didn’t know any better, who would hopefully find out “what a phony he is.”
Rep. Moran just said Cruz is going to continue to have an impact through the next couple of months. Oh, joy.
I laugh that Chris Matthews - who must sleep under rocks on the back 40 - is just now figuring out that Cruz and his ilk are bad news. What total fools they all are, including Chris.
Speaking of savings on prescription drugs, I just picked up a refill today for $7.50. The info attached at Walgreens informed I saved $280 on that prescription. Which is pretty unbelievable.
That price is what we get with Tricare for Life, because my husband is a military retiree. Every time I pay or talk about it, I say “This is the kind of health plan every American should have.” Once people get used to the new, improved health care…..even teatards will fight for it.
Wish the Obama/Clinton appearance today was required viewing for all Americans. That’s my one complaint—-all the people that needed to see it didn’t. And they remain in the darkness.
The great thing is that they’re using every avenue to get the info out right when people need it. And the GOP nonsense is all tired out, so the real info is the only new info out there. They’ll reach many people.
I got a couple of questions from that right wing Tony Perkins poll today, first question, do you vote? I said yes. Next question, do you think Obamacare is good for you and your family? I said Yes. That was it.
Stumbled across this Twitter account, “KrauseForIowa,” an exploratory committee for Iowa Governor.
I know there are several regulars who hail from Iowa.
He sounds like he’d be great for Iowa, plus he is followed by fellow TODers:
- A farming background, whose wife sadly died from breast cancer
- An enthusiastic proponent of labeling GMO foods
I remember reading an LATimes article in late 2007 or early 2008 about Iowa’s progressive background. I was really impressed, but am not able to locate
the online article.

Hi guys ,
Again thanks to all of you who has supported me.
I am not well, don’t know why this is such a big deal to me. I feel like a big baby but it hurts more than hot shrapnel.
I just can’t stop thinking about her…
I am already thinking about getting another black or golden lab.
But it won’t be the same, it just won’t.
I just want the pain to go away, it hurts.
Jovie, so good to hear from you, thank you for coming back and letting us know how things are with you.
There’s nothing ‘babyish’ about your feelings, you have lost a living creature you adored, the unnatural thing would be if you weren’t in despair about it all.
When my last dog died I wanted to punch people who told me the ‘cure’ was to get a new dog, I really did. I felt like they had absolutely no clue about the bond you create with a pet you love, and that they were idiots for thinking that could be so easily replaced.
So I didn’t get a new dog, I felt like it would almost be disloyal to the one I lost.
And you know when I only started to flippin’ move on? When my sister got a dog about 10 years later. And I adored him (still do), and was able to pour my love for animals in to this big loving bundle! He won’t ever replace the one I lost, nor will Danny when he arrives, but it really did help, because you are left with a big aching gap when you lose your dog.
Take your time Jovie, mourn the loss of your beautiful dog, but do think about getting a puppy some time soon. Again, s/he won’t ever replace the one you lost, but s/he will help fill the void that’s been left.
Take care of yourself Jovie, please, we all feel for you so much.
Give a new baby a warm loving home as soon as you can. No, it won’t be the same. You won’t be replacing her love, just helping yours to grow. In time your heart will heal and maybe even a scar will remain. The important thing is to keep that muscle working.
ah Jovie I’m sorry. I’ve had cats and now chickens but never a dog. I’m thinking though about getting one. Over the years I’ve gotten to know other people’s dogs and have dog sat a few. I will say, no one loves you like a dog - they are just all in. And they are always happy to see you. It’s a family member and that’s all there is to it. I hope you have many happy memories of your dog. Sorry for your loss.
whelp suddenly my name has disappeared from the top and the little doohickey that turns orange if someone responds to my comments- yep gone gone gone. what’d I do?
Hello TODers and Good Evening ;)
Thank you UT!!
Aww beautiful. My native country’s First Lady. She’s every bit as cool and tough as FLOTUS Michelle Obama
And that dress is sooooo beautiful Zizi!!
I’ll make one for you, Chips if you want. I’m a professional designer too. That fabric is REAL handwoven Kente silk tapestry cloth.
Oh Zizi2, that is the most beautiful dress. I love the fabric and color. Is that fabric sold in the US?
She’s beautiful zizi!
Thank you for the front page picture! :D
My pleasure Chelsea Girl, thank you for the post, you bundle of awesomeness!
I’m so proud of our FLOTUS. Love her !!!!!!
The POTUS Looks mighty Fine as always ;)
Missed it by that much.
For those who missed the event.
p.s. President Obama was freaking fantastic!
O/T but hey, aren’t I always? :-)
That’s ok sweetie. What Sherman Alexie books were banned?
:-) Thanks, D.

Priceless :D
ROFL - then again - I would take a $10,000 bet that John Kerry never hears/reads anything that GG has to say
And a fantastic break down by UT. Thanks for the update, I missed the speeches. You rock!
With each one of these UN speeches, President Obama becomes ever more impressive. He truly is a world leader. He brings the term: ” Leader of the Free World” to life, in fact…
THIS! #BAM #BOOM
“He brings the term ‘Leader of the Free World’ to life.” Oh, my, theo. Beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

VC, that’s toooooo funny!
I swear the GOPs and their leaders, in addition to having no sense of humour, also have no clue how ironic a lot of their behaviour is.
So basically corporations can regulate guns, but the government, elected by the people, cannot.
One rule for RWNJs, one rule for us. Although, I do believe that these guys have no insight, period. Whoever okayed and whoever booked the venue, like all current top GOP leaders, have tunnel vision.
Interesting
Check the comment in response :-D
@lazdamar: @HassanRouhani Good luck with that. :) Did anybody tell you Congress has a 9% approval rating?
You know, I can’t help but think that our country would be farther ahead were it not for SCOTUS, ALEC, and Citizens United. A pox on all their houses!
… don’t forget the Teapublicans
True that!
Here, you bunch of dirty lib-tards! Now don’t say I never gave you anything. Enjoy! :-)
The health care discussion was better than I expected. Former Prez. Clinton did not monopolize the questions and the answers. He gave Prez. Obama his due respect.
This is good to hear. I was dreading watching the video, for fear that it was all about Clinton.
The Tremendous Trio…
Kerry, Power, Rice!
KAPOWWW!
Wooooot!
Look Shrub said something nice. [RWNJs will make it him pay for it, of course… meh, oh well]
Golf is the one thing Bush could think of - the one reason why PBO should not be criticized? Why am I not surprised.
Thank you G.W. for having the sense to say that.
Yes, thank you. Of course that might be trite, but isn’t that what the MS M focuses on? So believe it or not, thank you GWB.

’bout time!
Rep. Moran just said Cruz is going to continue to have an impact through the next couple of months. Oh, joy.
I laugh that Chris Matthews - who must sleep under rocks on the back 40 - is just now figuring out that Cruz and his ilk are bad news. What total fools they all are, including Chris.
Compare them with President Obama. Can’t do it.
Wow, it’s like an echo chamber in here…
Dudette - you have such a wonderful wit. I would love to meet up with you next year when I come to Carrollton, GA to visit with my family.
:-) Thanks GG, that would be neat!
Plz gurl, don’t use those initials - they’ll mistake me for - UGH!!!!
Oh sorry. That guy never crosses my mind. I’ll remember next time. :-)
I, love, it, really, I, do. Ha!
Oh, My!!!!!
I’m going to copy that sentence to use with my class. Commas are a constant problem!
What a gorgeous dress- actually both FLOTUS’ dress and Ghana’s First Lady’s dress- are magnificent.
Hey kids! Hope everyone is good 2-nite!
Awww…
How cuddly cute!
Ok, I’m getting outta here - on my way home…..
Safe journey!
oh ha! I just saw this ~ ya beat me to it! What a great idea!
Wonder what campus—-cute idea.
Where is the video available of the Bill Clinton and Pres. Obama presentation?
http://www.c-span.org/Events/Pres-Obama-Talks-About-Health-Care-Law-at-Clinton-Initiative/10737441674-1/
From HRC’s introduction: “They (both) have fabulous daughters. They each married far above themselves…”
#BAM :-D
That’s cute… When I went to the cspan site the video wasn’t there on the page.
Timing is everything, Bill dear! :-D
My most unfave intro, but that’s neither here not there. It’s so fakey. It was a tad funny this time because Hillary said it.
thanks Dudette! Listening to them now. :-)
ObamaCare has been a long time coming
Speaking of savings on prescription drugs, I just picked up a refill today for $7.50. The info attached at Walgreens informed I saved $280 on that prescription. Which is pretty unbelievable.

I got a couple of questions from that right wing Tony Perkins poll today, first question, do you vote? I said yes. Next question, do you think Obamacare is good for you and your family? I said Yes. That was it.
You probably disqualified yourself from further propaganda by answering “yes” to the second question. They only want sheep.
