        :-) Thanks, D.

        Alexie’s book “The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is on the list in the article.
        Morrison’s “Beloved” is listed, but “The Bluest Eye” just got slammed as “pornography” by some muckety high up in the Ohio state educ department, so that pretty much might as well be an official ban too.

    was just coming to highlight the story about FLOTUS’ event;

    Michelle Obama calls Harlem a cultural gem

    NEW YORK — Extolling the virtues of Harlem’s rich cultural history, Michelle Obama hosted a luncheon for the spouses of foreign dignitaries Tuesday in the historic New York City neighborhood she described as “quintessentially American.”

    The first lady spoke to about 50 spouses of chiefs of state and heads of government who are attending the UN General Assembly. The group toured The Studio Museum in Harlem, which was founded in 1968 by artists and civic and community leaders to provide space for modern and contemporary black art.

    “There’s a reason why I wanted to bring you all to Harlem today,” said Obama, who was wearing a blue and white dress by Carolina Herrera. “And that is because this community … is infused with a kind of energy and passion that is quintessentially American, but that has also touched so many people around the world.”

    Obama discussed Harlem’s place in the early 20th century as the heart of black culture in the U.S., pointing to famous writers and musicians like Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston and Louis Armstrong.

    Can I just say how much I love waking up in the morning knowing I’ll be exceedingly proud of my POTUS in whatever he undertakes on any given day? PBO is a MASTER. He knows of what he speaks and he is conscious of his audience at all times. Wonderful, wonderful day for President Obama. A lot of ground has been gained through his thoughtful speech and action. WOOOOOTT!!!!

    Irony? Example of their cluelessness? Just showing some sense?

    “Welcome to the NRA convention. Leave your guns at the door.

    Would I lie? At the North Carolina convention center in Charlotte, you cannot carry guns. Oh, you got your Sarah Palin, your Glen Beck, your Ollie North, but not your little friend.

    ‘North Carolina State law prohibits the carrying of firearms in the Charlotte Convention Center, and the Time Warner Cable Arena. In addition, the Rules and Regulations of the Charlotte Convention Center prohibit the carrying of firearms in the Center. Pursuant to Time Warner Cable Arena policy, all individuals entering the Arena will be subject to a magnetometer security check.’

      So basically corporations can regulate guns, but the government, elected by the people, cannot.

    Wow. I never watch Hardball but had it muted and saw an image Chris was showing that compared McCarthy to Cruz, so I turned up the volume. An actual U.S. congressman - Jim Moran (D-VA) - called an actual U.S. senator - Cruz (R-TX) - “an arrogant elitist” who was manipulating people who didn’t know any better, who would hopefully find out “what a phony he is.”

    Yeah, baby! Speak out, Democrats!

        Rep. Moran just said Cruz is going to continue to have an impact through the next couple of months. Oh, joy.

        I laugh that Chris Matthews - who must sleep under rocks on the back 40 - is just now figuring out that Cruz and his ilk are bad news. What total fools they all are, including Chris.

        Compare them with President Obama. Can’t do it.

        That price is what we get with Tricare for Life, because my husband is a military retiree. Every time I pay or talk about it, I say “This is the kind of health plan every American should have.” Once people get used to the new, improved health care…..even teatards will fight for it.

      The great thing is that they’re using every avenue to get the info out right when people need it. And the GOP nonsense is all tired out, so the real info is the only new info out there. They’ll reach many people.

    I got a couple of questions from that right wing Tony Perkins poll today, first question, do you vote? I said yes. Next question, do you think Obamacare is good for you and your family? I said Yes. That was it.

      You probably disqualified yourself from further propaganda by answering “yes” to the second question. They only want sheep.

    Stumbled across this Twitter account, “KrauseForIowa,” an exploratory committee for Iowa Governor.

    I know there are several regulars who hail from Iowa.

    He sounds like he’d be great for Iowa, plus he is followed by fellow TODers:
    - A farming background, whose wife sadly died from breast cancer
    - An enthusiastic proponent of labeling GMO foods

    I remember reading an LATimes article in late 2007 or early 2008 about Iowa’s progressive background. I was really impressed, but am not able to locate
    the online article.

    He also linked to Robert Reich tweet and John Dickerson’s article about GOP suicide pact.

    Hi guys ,
    Again thanks to all of you who has supported me.
    I am not well, don’t know why this is such a big deal to me. I feel like a big baby but it hurts more than hot shrapnel.
    I just can’t stop thinking about her…
    I am already thinking about getting another black or golden lab.
    But it won’t be the same, it just won’t.
    I just want the pain to go away, it hurts.

    • September 24, 2025 at 8:32 pm

      Jovie, so good to hear from you, thank you for coming back and letting us know how things are with you.

      There’s nothing ‘babyish’ about your feelings, you have lost a living creature you adored, the unnatural thing would be if you weren’t in despair about it all.

      When my last dog died I wanted to punch people who told me the ‘cure’ was to get a new dog, I really did. I felt like they had absolutely no clue about the bond you create with a pet you love, and that they were idiots for thinking that could be so easily replaced.

      So I didn’t get a new dog, I felt like it would almost be disloyal to the one I lost.

      And you know when I only started to flippin’ move on? When my sister got a dog about 10 years later. And I adored him (still do), and was able to pour my love for animals in to this big loving bundle! He won’t ever replace the one I lost, nor will Danny when he arrives, but it really did help, because you are left with a big aching gap when you lose your dog.

      Take your time Jovie, mourn the loss of your beautiful dog, but do think about getting a puppy some time soon. Again, s/he won’t ever replace the one you lost, but s/he will help fill the void that’s been left.

      Take care of yourself Jovie, please, we all feel for you so much.

    • 109 Dudette
      September 24, 2025 at 8:35 pm

      Give a new baby a warm loving home as soon as you can. No, it won’t be the same. You won’t be replacing her love, just helping yours to grow. In time your heart will heal and maybe even a scar will remain. The important thing is to keep that muscle working.

      {{{{ Jovie }}}}

      Hang in there, Jovie, your pain is a signature of the depth of your love, you have been blessed to love so deeply.. {{{{Jovie}}}}

      ah Jovie I’m sorry. I’ve had cats and now chickens but never a dog. I’m thinking though about getting one. Over the years I’ve gotten to know other people’s dogs and have dog sat a few. I will say, no one loves you like a dog - they are just all in. And they are always happy to see you. It’s a family member and that’s all there is to it. I hope you have many happy memories of your dog. Sorry for your loss.
