Thanks so much for this picture, JER.
Damn, he looks good. As my older relatives would say: “Sharp As A Tack!”
What a beautiful sight. The smile that lights up a room.
Is anyone missing amk yet? I know I am.
OMG…LL we’re having the same thoughts. I almost typed, “Amk get your butt back here now” but decided not to. I sure miss him!!
hold it. last night was his birthday. where’d he go?
He was disconsolate about the election results and retired from the political Internet.
aw. I know how he feels. I thought about taking down my twitter account. I just went to bed. But hey! Al won! So did Gov Dayton! I thought maybe it was cuz I didn’t wish him a happy birthday. (AMK - I was getting to it.) #notasimportantasithoughtiwas ;-)
Sent him a strongly worded email demanding his return. If he doesn’t reply, I suggest we all fly to India to hunt him down.
Does anyone know what city he lives in? India is a big place.
No worries, we’ll try them all. I’m pretty sure when we ask “do you know Amk?” everyone will say, “oh gawd yes”.
All we have to do to locate him, is turn on the iphone, “locate amk” feature :D
egg.sack.ly :D
He absolutely may not abandon ship. NOT ALLOWED. We sail TOGETHER.
indeed :D
Maybe sending him a link to the press briefing so that he can watch it will brighten his mood and motivate him to return.
I am, it’s as if the conversation with him is ongoing! Still, after 2012, he tried to leave and get on with his life, but many of us asked him to stay. This time I wished him well and thanked him. Of course he would be quite proud of PBO today, and who knows, he may find it impossible to stay away!
Congrats Chips on #1, and amk (in case he’s lurking) on “FURST”
Now, wait just a minute, hf…
Anyone DVRing the country music awards tonight?
Yes.
Next question.
:)
You lie! :)
No I don’t (in this case). Granddaughter’s watching something else, so I’m DVRing the CMA - since we both want to see it (having first realized when she was a teenager that she liked countrymusic, my son said to her, “Where have I gone wrong???”) … although, quite frankly, she knows the younger singers and I only know the dead ones or the walking dead, but I digress.
Ahaha…thought you were just pulling my legs. :)
Were you pulling mine? :)
Nah…I just happened to have CMA in the background and was wondering who was watching it on TOD. I prefer the “old” country music (e.g., Kenny, Dolly, Chrystal, etc). I don’t know any of the new songs. And I don’t like the audience at the CMA awards shows. I think they’re Republican. LOL! :)
Eek - Republican! My favorites were of the George Jones era!
LOL- Not familiar with George Jones. :)
Yes Ma’am!
Have you gotten any sleep yet, NW?
I got a small amount because election night rolled over into election early AM, but thanks for looking out, PJ. :)
:-)
You folks are awesome, thanks Nerdy and Ms Chips for all you do. We had a bad night last night for sure, but there were some sparkly bits too… like the new women in Congress, Al Franken, and the gun reform laws. The rest was pretty awful. Our president will soon be wielding his veto pen, to protect the country from the lunatics surrounding him. Great tweets, thanks for sharing!
{{{{{{{{andogriff}}}}}}}}} :-)
Thanks so much, Andogriff!
Thanks for posting the press conference as I was able to watch it all. How lucky we are regardless of the voting outcome to have this intelligent, empathetic, hard working human being for our President! We are blessed to have him and our group is fortunate to know how special he is.
Missed press conference today because I was at work but I am SO glad to read Obama didn’t give the press what they truly wanted - the face of a broken man. They want that, which is why they went all in in tearing him down the past two years.
He did not give them a “shellacking” soundbite like he did in 2010 and I am incredibly grateful.
This man is smart, not stupid like many on the left try to paint him. Savvy move - he knew exactry what he was doing.
Bravo, Mr. President. You make me SO proud!!!!!!
They thought they were taunting him, but the President was the one who ended up doing the taunting!
Okay, I really needed that laugh, perfecto! Thank you Meta for sharing it.
:D :D :D
Thank you Nerdy for all the work you have put in …volunteering and the blog. You are a superstar.
Thanks so much, Hope44.
Right back at ya! :)
22 SIMPLE REFORMS THAT COULD #FIXCONGRESS NOW
By Richard Dorment on October 15, 2025
—————————-
Over two days in July 2014, Senator Tom Daschle, Representative Barney Frank, Representative Bob Livingston, Senator Trent Lott, and Lawrence O’Donnell convened in Washington, D. C., and came to unanimous consensus on the following recommendations to reform Congress for the Twenty-First century

Looks good to me. R’s would never agree to this though.:(
Thank you Chips for this Blog. Love ya for all you do.
To quote PBO, love ya right back Hope44!!!! :-)
HERO
Exactly. That’s what made me chuckle about the results and the GOP crowing about gains. It’s easy to speak about everything you’ll get done once you have power, and promise the moon and stars, it’s another when fantasy becomes reality.
The GOP did underhanded things to gain power because their thirst and greed for said power was overwhelming. Ok, now you have the platform, GOP. Govern. They don’t realize that now they can’t put it all on President Obama because they have tremendous power too. Hahahahaha.
Be careful what you wish for.
This summed it up for me, Nerdy:
Today they’re thinking, ‘oh shit, what do we do now?’
They have two years to try and win the White House, if all they do with their power is block and obstruct (again), they will pay.
Bliss.
The last time the GOP controlled Congress it basically rubber stamped whatever crazed ideas came from the Cheney White House. The Congressional GOP has never had to do anything on its own. Now it does. And PBO isn’t going to lift one finger to do the work for them.
As our wonderful amk would say … egg.zak.ta.lee …. see what I did there …. hopefully it’ll annoy him enough he’ll come and admonish me ;)
Love this Chips. This is a wonderful depiction of the repugs. They are always fighting for power but never know how to use it constructively.
And you know COS, the thoughts of their panic is delicious. As so many said, ‘be careful what you wish for, GOP’.
The gods punish you by giving you what you ask for.
:-)
I feel inspired by President Obama and the TOD community. There is lots of energizing things to do to support his policies and programs. I posted this in comments earlier, but will again. I talk from my heart directly to the President when I write. I like to think of the staff who will read it too and that it is good for them to see how much he is loved.
thanks for posting this earlier MagicalEarth, I took the suggestion and I felt great.
You’re welcome! We like to share our love with the President. :)
this is a great idea Magical. Thx for posting this. will RT. :-)
Done!
Thank you this. I have sent an email of support. I will do this regularly to tell him we will always support him.
And Chips thank you for this place again. You are the best. We will be the winners in the long run. We don’t hate.
{{{{{{{{{Marilyn}}}}}}}}} :-)
Sent a sincere note of thanks to POTUS, FLOTUS, first family and all the admin and staff
I sent a thank you for your leadership type email and got a WH response letter about the elections reiterating what he said in the press conference.
John T. Marohn I agree with you 100%. I continue to support President Obama.
And POTUS is just find. I’m so glad he has his faith and he has his FLOTUS and his family and true friends.
And he has us who still has his back. Will always.
me too……
Okay, on to other matters: Who’s ready for Liverpool v. Chelsea this Saturday? I’m sure Chips is, if only so that Chelsea can beat Liverpool and keep Man U above the Reds.
Listen buster, I’m only focused on trying to get a draw at home to Crystal Palace :???:
come on, admit it: you want us to make Brendan Rogers cry.
Well ……. yes. Very much.
Lol! ‘oh, you mean all those democrats who lost’! Ha! He is a good, good man. With a huge, generous Soul. We’d be so much better off if more people were like him. And our beloved FLOTUS.
Ok folks, leaving work and probably going to call it an early night. I have a poem I need to work on—and it dovetails nicely with my essay today, so I shall be stealing a few lines from that. And then I’m going to crash. See y’all tomorrow.
Night LL, thanks for everything today.
Thanks so much for sharing the Rep. Lewis tweets, in particular, NW! If he can move forward, I guess we can. #TwoMoreYears
I don’t think I’ve posted here in a couple of years, but I do read this blog every day. Just wanted to say that it’s been all your posts here over the past 24 hours that really helped me keep things in perspective of such a dismal time. I didn’t dare watch TV-just read the posts here. And, when I came home from work and saw the pictures of President Obama smiling-well, that helped me realize I could smile too. Thanks everybody for keeping at it and supporting the president. People are really going to miss him in a couple of years. But I think it’s a lot better to appreciate him right now in the moment.
I couldn’t agree with you more!
*I think it’s a lot better to appreciate him right now in the moment*
You nailed it! Thanks!
Definitely!
Lovely!
“But I think it’s a lot better to appreciate him right now in the moment.”
Every moment!!
Really appreciate your comments, malanoue!
You know, that first tweet of Pres Obama saying to keep going until every person feels the gains of a growing economy is brilliant really. He’s including everyone with compassion and understanding. Amazing man.
I just saw this and did laugh out loud. He actually tweeted this.
Am I the last person to see the “What’s happening?” on twitter? Guess this is what twitter thinks “change” looks like!
#OhIfThisWereMyOnlyAnnoyance
Now it is confirmed……American pols and police would arrest Jesus, the current Pope and Mother Teresa……
Why does twitter keep moving our cheese?
Uh oh, what have they done now????
They moved the compose box to the top of the TL. UGH!
Twitter dumb.
Loved Wendy’s tweet. Democrats had an impressive ground game all the way around, including in Texas. I’m not sure what happened, but there are all kinds of new voters all across the country who are fired up and not going to give up. There were Native Americans in SD who are newly registered, Begich in AK went out to every small village, the DSCC and DCCC did unprecedented registration and GOTV. Wendy inspired Democrats all across the US.
Did Mark Begich lose?
Perfect, future Mr Chips.
Thank you, future Mrs. Japa
hey you guys I just checked my email. I just got one from President Obama. (well, you know, we ALL got one not just me). Did you guys get it yet? Here I’ll reprint:
“Yesterday, millions of Americans cast their ballots. Republicans had a good night, and I congratulate all the candidates who won.
But what stands out to me is that the message Americans sent yesterday is one you’ve sent for several elections in a row now. You expect the people you elect to work as hard as you do. You expect us to focus on your ambitions — not ours — and you want us to get the job done. Period.
I plan on spending every moment of the next two years rolling up my sleeves and working as hard as I can for the American people. This country has made real and undeniable progress in the six years since the 2008 economic crisis. But our work will not be done until every single American feels the gains of a growing economy where it matters most: in your own lives.
While I’m sure we’ll continue to disagree on some issues that we’re passionate about, I’m eager to work with Congress over the next two years to get the job done. The challenges that lay ahead of us are far too important to allow partisanship or ideology to prevent our progress as a nation.
As we make progress, I’ll need your help, too. Over the weeks and months ahead, I’ll be looking to Americans like you, asking you to stay engaged.
I am optimistic about our future. Because for all the maps plastered across our screens today, for all the cynics who say otherwise, we are more than a simple collection of red and blue states. We are the United States.
And yesterday, millions of Americans — Democrats and Republicans, women and men, young and old, black and white — took the time out of their day to perform a simple, profound act of citizenship. That’s something we shouldn’t forget amid the din of political commentary. Because making progress starts with showing up.
Let’s get to work.
President Barack Obama”
I’m sorry Chips for taking up so much room. It seemed like a good thing to reprint. Some of these points I heard in the Press Conference.
Thanks for posting this email. It’s an important one and many people who visit wouldn’t be on his email list.
Just finished reading mine, with love :-D

GEEZE
Nerdy’s funnies!
http://theobamadiary.com/2014/11/05/today-calls-for-laughter/
So disappointing!
The equality we seek for all over the world can’t even be seen in the most developed country in world, I wonder what we expect in other countries. Am really marveled at the outcome of today’s vote, but I still have this strong feeling that Pres. Obama will still prevail. He will always finds a way.
