That doesn’t give him or any other man the right to be disrespectful to any woman. She was actually asking very relevant and pertinent questions about the feasibility of his tax proposal and instead of providing facts, he chose to be disrespectful.

I’m glad he was caught on camera doing what he did. What else will it take for people to see these arrogant, disrespectful idiots for what they really are? If women want to be complicit in bringing the GOP / Tea Party to power, they need to see the consequences of doing so. This is who Rand Paul really IS.

May I share the fact that I bought gas for my car that was LESS THAN $1/gal TODAY??!! I know! Damn that Obama, right:) I paid .96/gal…I kept staring at the price because I couldn’t believe it. Now, to be fair, I got .80/gal off the price because of all the food shopping I do, but so do millions of other people…..that was amazing to me! The guy that was on the other side of my pump took a picture of his gas price…he got .90/gal off his….had this big SUV…must have paid next to nothing. I filled my car up for $7. 67. WOW!

The European Commission says the controversial EU-IMF troika supervising Greek finances could be replaced.

The troika is a group of auditors representing the Commission, the European Central Bank and IMF.

They carry out regular checks to see if Greece is sticking to its commitments under the EU-IMF bailout agreement.

Greece’s new left-wing government does not accept the troika’s agenda. Instead it aims to renegotiate the bailout, to get a huge reduction in Greece’s debt.

At a news conference on Monday, the Commission chief spokesman, Margaritis Schinas, quoted a pledge by Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker to replace the troika.

“In the future, we should be able to replace the ‘troika’ with a more democratically legitimate and more accountable structure, based around European institutions with enhanced parliamentary control both at European and at national level,” Mr Juncker said in his mission statement last year.

A court in Egypt has upheld death sentences on 183 Muslim Brotherhood supporters over a 2013 attack on a police station near Cairo.

The men were convicted over the deaths of at least 11 officers in Kerdasa.

The attack took place after Egyptian military forces cracked down on Islamist supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi that July.

Hundreds of death sentences have been passed on Mr Morsi’s supporters but none has been carried out.

Human rights group Amnesty International says the death sentences follow grossly unfair trials and highlight Egypt’s disregard for national and international law.

    Yes!

Hard to believe that a former lobbyist for Telecoms is proposing this.

PBO really knows how to pick his managers!

    Per Wikipedia:
“Prior to working at the FCC, Wheeler worked as a venture capitalist and lobbyist for the cable and wireless industry, with positions including President of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association (NCTA) and CEO of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA).”

I wonder if anyone wonders whether the President might just have known what he was doing with the nominee that Elizabeth Warren chased out of the running last month… He’s not a fool, and he hasn’t done anything to harm Americans up to now. But, what’s done is done. Instead of fighting the President, maybe some of these Dems will focus on fighting Republicans who are determined to harm the country.

      • 42 arapaho415
        February 2, 2025 at 11:18 pm

Yeah, I don’t get it either.

Dems shouldn’t fight this President, who has acted only in a responsible and strategic manner. Makes no sense to me — PBO has demonstrated consistency and makes no move as President that is not in the best interest of Americans.

The price of oil rallied on Monday as investors speculated that the falling cost of crude may have ended.

Brent crude was up 1.3% at $53.65 a barrel, having reached $55, while US oil rose 1.7% to $48.52.

It followed the release of data showing that US demand for leasing oil rigs was slowing, suggesting that producers might be preparing to cut output.

Meanwhile, US giant ExxonMobil reported a 21% fall in quarterly earnings on lower oil and gas production.

On Friday, data showed that more than 90 US oil rigs were idled, the largest number to be wound down in a single day since the mid-1980s.

Rupert Murdoch’s company News Corp will not be prosecuted in the US over the phone-hacking scandal that engulfed the media giant in the UK.

US officials were looking into whether alleged payments to British police by journalists meant that News Corp, a US company, broke anti-corruption laws.

But the US Department of Justice said on Monday it was not pursuing charges and was closing its investigation.

The tabloid newspaper at the centre of the scandal was closed down in 2011.

Wonder if anyone will ask Pete Carroll the obvious question - was it worth it in order to prevent Marshawn Lynch from being MVP?

Am likely not the only person who’d like to see him forced to answer the question ….

    • 53 Sandy1110
      February 2, 2025 at 10:42 pm

…and if that was his motivation, then he (or more likely the offensive coordinator, and who knows why Carroll’s probably covering for him) got what he deserved for that decision. Carroll should feel damned guilty for allowing that to happen after the work that team put in to getting back there.

        JO’B,

Saw the tweet you posted on the previous thread about “Springtime rituals.”

Most of the country thinks it’s winter, but seems like Spring in SoCal. (Sorry for the poor-quality photo — my camera doesn’t do flash photography very well, but this tiny cutting has two blooms!! — one underneath the left-most leaf on the right leaves, the other underneath the left cluster).

It’s way too small to actually bear fruit — I’ve been told that the fruit develops but takes 9 months to ripen — something they have in common with us, LOL. I was shocked when I saw these blooms today, so am sharing with you.

            Thanks, JO’B.

You have no idea how surprised I was to see the blooms today — they’re a very pretty pink. I’ve been busy and ignored this plant all last week, but it’s not mad at me, LOL.

WP is refusing to allow me to respond to Bobfr’s tweet about the SuperBowl above, so this was a test to see if it was me or WP.

This is a heartbreaking story - so many in those early days just suffered without any form of assistance whatsoever. Even today, in parts of the world, there is an element of ignorance, and much of it was fostered from those early days.

When Hudson was diagnosed with AIDS in the summer of 1984, he was living in a country where, as Shilts detailed, the president of American Airlines opened a breakfast at the Republican National Convention by joking that “gay” stood for “got AIDS yet.”

Well we now know, Nancy Reagan was running the White House. I doubt President reagan knew anything about the request. Based on books I’ve read about Ronald reagan, it appears he had Alzheimer’s before he became President. One book describes how much of what REagan would say to leaders outside the bubble were prepared remarks that were kept on index cards Reagan kept in his pocket. the author said Reagan seemed to think of the Presidency as a role he was playing, so he studied his lines for accuracy and affect. This explains the GOP’s fixation with the less is more theory of Presidential competency. The less competent the more they can be manipulated by the corporatists. This explains why a bully (Chris Christie) and an idot (Scott Walker) could be discussed by corporate-owned media as potential presidential hopefuls.

The news cycle today (and recently) simply is unbelievable. The Rs seem determined to take the entire country back to the dark ages, even at the risk of the lives of their children. How the hell did we get here??????? We ended up with ZERO cases of ebola contracted in the US but we have over 100 cases of measles? When is the voting public going to wake up and realize just what the Repubs are doing to this country? I just may have to ignore the news, simply too depressing!

    • 92 Sandy1110
      February 3, 2025 at 5:23 am

We got here due to the erosion of the Fairness Doctrine (Scalia had a hand in that) during Reagan’s term, and the FCC Deregulation Act that Clinton signed in 1996. Now we have a GOP-controlled media that keeps viewers ignorant and fearful by design, and completely covers for the GOP politicians they want in power.

The average TV / news viewer has no clue about the type of information posted on this site. They think PBO is a secret Muslim, and Muslims are terrorists, and Democrats won’t work with Republicans, who only want America to be “strong” while PBO is trying to make us “weak”.

They let the GOP say things like this and don’t challenge them.

They flood the political talk shows with GOP to repeat the lies and misinformation.

In the meantime, the Democrats are too cowed and weak to stand up for what they OUGHT to stand for.

As a result, those who fall for GOP lies are scared to the polls; others don’t see why they should bother. More GOP in power, more lies, more lunatics running the asylum.

If this society isn’t collectively smart enough to figure out what’s going on, the ignorant in power will drive things to an ugly breaking point before REAL change has to happen again.

…”The quiet return of African-American retirees and young professionals has the potential to reshape the South again over the next few decades, much as the exodus to northern cities reshaped it in the 20th century.

The reversal “began as a trickle in the 1970s, increased in the 1990s, and turned into a virtual evacuation from many northern areas in the first decade of the 2000s,” says William Frey, a Brookings Institution demographer who has laid out the reversal in painstaking detail in his new book Diversity Explosion: How New Racial Demographics Are Remaking America. The movement, he writes, is driven largely by younger, college-educated African Americans, as well as baby boomers like Sharpe Haywood who are nearing retirement.”
