The President And First Lady’s Day

Barack+Obama+Obamas+Discuss+Efforts+Help+Adolescent+cedxo2jRweRl

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama announce a new government-wide coordinated strategy to help millions of girls around the world attend and stay school called “Let Girls Learn” in the East Room of the White House. Saying that she will focus on this program beyond her time in the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama will soon travel to Japan and Cambodia to promote the new initiative.

White House: Working Together To Open The Doors Of Education For Girls Around The World

To educate a girl is to build a healthier family, a stronger community, and a brighter future. Unfortunately today, 62 million girls around the world are not in school. Half of them are adolescents. We know that countries with more girls in secondary school tend to have lower maternal mortality rates, lower infant mortality rates, lower rates of HIV/AIDS, and better child nutrition. But too often, a girl who could change her world for the better is locked out of that future by the circumstances of her birth or the customs of her community. We know that a girl with an education can shape her own destiny, lift up her family, and transform her community.

That is why President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama will be championing our efforts to help adolescent girls around the globe attend and complete school through the Let Girls Learn initiative, which will build upon the public engagement campaign the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launched last summer. Let Girls Learn is a government-wide effort that will leverage the investments we have made and success we have achieved in global primary school, and expand them to help adolescent girls complete their education. A key part of Let Girls Learn will be to encourage and support community-led solutions to reduce barriers that prevent adolescent girls from completing their education.

Thank you NW for those beautiful pictures of our glorious first couple. They just set the best example for all of us: don’t let the small stuff, and most of it is small stuff, get you down; just keep on keeping on and working to make the world better. The Israeli PM is not a big part of PBO’s life, therefore he doesn’t obsess over him…….he keeps moving forward to we can move forward. Bravo to them both.

What’s the difference between Netenyahu and Putin?

One’s a bigoted egotistical maniac with nuclear weapons and an apparent desire to fast track to WW3 and the other is the president of Russia.

one thing I agree with sopel though.

For a moment, I tried to imagine Bibi in the Westminster Parliament, or the Assemblee Nationale in Paris or the Bundestag in Berlin. He wouldn’t have got anything like that reception.

“Only the cowardly cong clowns would be so childish.”

Exactly, AMK! Although they were a few in numbers, I am still proud of all the Democratic members of Congress who boycotted Netanyahu’s speech. By way of contrast, not a single Republican had the guts to refuse to validate Boehner’s violation of both the U.S. Constitution and traditionally accepted Diplomatic protocols.

Can’t tell you how many hundreds, if not more times, I have had to explain the following simple facts to people who really should have already known ….

NUKES: Iran = 0, Israel = 80 (possibly more plus multiple delivery systems)

NPT SIGNATORY: Iran = Yes, Israel = No

IAEA INSPECTIONS: Iran = Yes, Israel = No

Bob, CJ is absolutely spot-on! But then again, when it comes to disrespecting Black people nothing is beyond the pale. Today, all the members of Congress who gathered in the House Chamber to listen to a foreign leader attack the foreign policy of a duly elected sitting President demonstrated that “treason” is more preferable to honoring the Constitution during the presidency of a Black man. Today was proof, for those who needed proof, that a great many Americans use double standards when it comes to dealing with Black folks. Even a twice elected President of the United States can’t escape the race based double-standards.

Thank you Nerdy for posting PBO’s remarks on Iran. The comments plus the photos of POTUS and FLOTUS restored my mood.

I stayed away from my computer, the TV and newspapers today since I was so nauseated by the spectacle I knew was being presented.

Hi Bob, thanks for sharing this clip. I am glad you always remind us to “TrustBarack.” The President made a very sane, reality grounded, and thoughtful comment by President Obama over the issue of trying to prevent Iran from developing and deploying nuclear weapons. Again, other than an all out war to destroy Iran’s nuclear capability, which by the way is not guaranteed, the opponents of President Obama have offered Zero (I mean Nada!) realistic proposals on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

Ms. Chips, bitter/sweet as life is some days. We still choose HOPE!
That’s all I have most days. So grateful for grace and mercy.

PF, thank you for posting a tweet to “The People’s View” on an earlier post.
Thanks to you tonight, I will be dancing to “Got To Give It Up” by Marvin Gaye
And I don’t really care to turn it down. I just might open up the windows and blinds just because.
Last night I wanted to “fast forward” today and get it over with.
What a difference a day makes!
