Arlette Saenz: President Obama Reunites With Family In Kenya Over Dinner

It was a big family reunion when President Obama arrived here in Kenya today. Obama, who is visiting his father’s homeland for the fourth time but for the first time as president, sat down with three-dozen members of his Kenyan family for dinner at his hotel. He sat next to his half-sister Auma and step-grandmother Sarah Obama, who was the third wife of the president’s paternal grandfather.

She’s affectionately known to many as Mama Sarah, but to President Obama, she’s just Granny. When Obama first visited Kenya in 1988, Auma picked him up at the airport in a sputtering baby-blue Volkswagen Beetle that was missing a muffler. Tonight, it was a much different scene as the president treated Auma to a ride in the presidential motorcade on his fourth visit to Kenya.

I haven’t seen my friend GGail much today :( must have been a busy Friday. Thank you Chips and Nerdy for such wonderful coverage of PBO’s trip to his fathers homeland and what a welcome he is getting.

I’m giving myself a little test.

After I tweet something about President Obama, if I could “replace” (they’re two separate men, so this isn’t truly accurate phrasing) (but I digress) his name with President Biden in 2017 and still feel the feeling of it …

… then I’ll know I’m looking forward to the right person’s letting us know if he’s in the race.

Worked with this tweet, for sure.

Nerdy, I feel like I never thank you enough for all you do here. Your coverage of trips, your evening round-ups and your oddball sense of humor posts fill our days with a grand feast. THANK YOU.

Auma Obama is actually Dr. Auma Obama. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone used her title like they do our Dr. Jill Biden?

Yes, it would particularly in Kenya. I thought she held a doctorate, from a school in England if I remember correctly, but wasn’t sure.

NW, I echo the thanks above. You and Chips make this place so special. I know it is a ton of work each and every day to keep this going and I appreciate it.

hey gun toting numbnutz. pentagon sez, fuck off, you morons.

The Pentagon has urged US citizens not to carry out armed patrols outside military recruitment centres.

Civilians acting as unofficial guards have appeared outside some centres since five service personnel were shot dead last week in Tennessee.

Military personnel are generally barred from carrying firearms at recruitment centres and bases.

The Pentagon says it appreciates the support but armed civilians could pose an unintended security risk.

How is anyone supposed to be able to tell the people carrying weapon who think they’re helping from the terrorists waiting to attack? This is the fallacy of gun nuts who think arming everyone keeps them safe. It’s pure idiocy.
