A spiritual teacher once told me: “Darkness hates the Light.” This is the essential reason Obama is vilified by so many on the Right. I’m not talking about economic conservatives who don’t agree with him and actively want to reduce the size of Government, not because they are mean-spirited, but because they feel the country would be stronger. I’m talking about the significant numbers of people who hate him, and whose skin literally crawls when they see him or hear his voice. These people are aroused by and ultimately deeply angered by his Light. Obama is, in fact, transparent. The Light of who he is shines out brightly to everyone. Only for many on the Right, this Light shines into their Dark Places, exposing, then releasing waves upon waves of anger. All there is to do is to try to destroy him; and when in cool and collected composure, he constantly refuses to hit back, or to anger, the Right’s anger becomes an unquenchable fire.
Pf, this is a brilliant insight from Stuart. The unbridled hatred against our president is more than racism, it’s something deeply visceral. Stuart puts the right name on it-a darkness in the soul.
yes..if you get a chance read the whole essay…i wish that could discuss it with him……there were parts that i did not understand..but i got the gist of what he was saying.
Thank you for this excerpt. This rings so very true for me and my experience talking to people. I feel in my heart that PBO is an enlightened and awakened soul. To me, fear is the driver of all the evil in the world and those that hate do so out of fear. PBO is filled with and radiates spiritual light from within. That is why he scares the worst among us. I remember from my childhood that roaches scatter when the light is turned on.
I spoke to an older woman today who I see in the context of my work occasionally. She considers herself a liberal; thinks she’s to the left of the liberal spectrum even. When I first met her, like I have with so many like her, I assumed she appreciated and admired PBO, the most successful, sincere and accomplished liberal president this country has ever had. Instead, she constantly finds fault with him and talks about him with barely disguised contempt. Every time I see her she asks me, “So what do you think of Obama?” She starts out with some mild criticism of a recent event or policy and then her hate and anger escalates. After going through this with her several times, I now know that she is just looking for an opportunity to be a hater. So today when she brought it up I answered firmly, “I think he is the greatest President we have ever had. He has exceeded everything I hoped for, in spite of the obstruction and disrespect he has been faced with. I wish we could have another four years with him but, since that’s not possible, I am just going to enjoy the remaining year of his presidency.”
Went through something similar with a cousin on Thanksgiving. She started this disquisition ranging from PBO was stealing her money by forcing her to buy health insurance to he hasn’t done anything for Black folks… Mind you, this is one of my six-figure income relatives who previously went without health insurance; however, during periods of unemployment she obtains health coverage via state programs… She didn’t see the hypocrisy in not wanting to pay for health care, yet having taxpayers foot the bill. Pointed out to her that he’s president of all and the policies that have benefited African Americans; her response “…until he signs an executive order, paying reparations, he’s done NOTHING…” When I pointed out that such an EO would be unconstitutional, she didn’t care…” BTW, Bill was just the greatest!
One can be both highly educated and stupid as all hell!
OMG your TDay experience mirrors conversations I have had with people who were “both highly educated and stupid as hell” :-). That’s why when I happen to meet a fellow PBO appreciator/recognizer, I feel like I’ve just reached an oasis after crossing the dessert in the on my hands and knees. The clouds part, the heavens open and the angels sing, “hallelujah!” :-)
You put words to my experience. Appreciator/recognizer is such a good way to express the feeling when you find that person or persons that see what you see. I remember canvassing in Ohio for GOTV in 2012. We had to go out of state because our state was not going to be consequential. Another woman and I were paired and drove around Dayton to our assigned doors for four long long days. We were tired, stretched, and you might think we would begin to get on one another’s nerves. Not so. We never tired of talking together of our appreciation and recognition. I’ll never forget the blessing of those days with someone who “got it”. It was like we shared one brain and one soul and we had not known much about each other before that effort. We don’t keep in touch but I feel like she is a friend for life and if and when we meet again, we will do the same thing. Relish our talks about the President.
“The clouds part, the heavens open and the angels sing, “hallelujah!” :-)” — Oh, so you too recall the 2008 “bumble bee ” performance in Providence! Even though Hil was mocking us, unlike most Obots, I found her bit humorous! LOL
Actually, I was being sincere :-) Don’t remember what the “bumble bee” performance was… let me go Google that… ok, just found a YouTube of it.
Interesting. I realize that Hillary was sarcastically referring to then Senator Obama, and accusing him of being naive. We now know (and she now knows) he was anything but. Back then I would have been pissed at this from her. Funny though, if she made the same speech today in reference to the BernieBots and the idea that every liberal dream will just come true magically in spite of Congress and Lobbyists, I would be in total agreement with her :-) Hmmnnn ….worth pondering that :-)
There was tons of collective outrage among Obots. I, like PBO laughed it off; think following that performance, it was the first time he physically “dusted the dirt off his shoulder” at an event…
Every time he gets up and does his job for our country and the WORLD he does us proud! There will be no other, in my lifetime, like him again. He understands in his being, being humble and honest and compassionate. It all comes from his heart…I love him for bringing dignity wherever he goes.
And Pete Souza is right there to record our President. How brave to trust that you too will be protected and kept safe while covering the President.
Thank you Pete
Thanks Chips for posting these beautiful, and moving pictures. As Nerdy mentioned - after a long flight he has the stamina to do this at 1AM Paris time.
The next President will have some tough acts to follow!
There’s something in him that makes him tireless, HF, as though he’s been given special energy to carry out this enormous task of being the US president at a time of turmoil and change.
I remember all the silly criticism PBO received when people wanted him to fly to Paris for a photo op after the Charlie Hebdo attacks. This is so much more real and personal and meaningful than that would have been.
They are most likely then to ram a constitutional amendment restricting gun rights only to whites and the boneless dems will vote for it too and the supremes will uphold it.
Dudette, I agree with the actor Wendell Pierce, I also said that if blacks bought assault weapons like white have bought them, Congress will put a ban on assault weapons and the NRA would support it.

November 29, 2025 at 8:03 pm
This came across my Facebook feed. Sorry for the length. On second thought, no, I’m not. All of it needs to be here:
“So I’m gonna share the most personal story I have, one most people have never heard me tell because it’s only been a year since it happened. But I can’t stay silent anymore. I care way too much about what’s going on in our country to keep it to myself anymore.
I, like most women I know, have relied on Planned Parenthood for my life, health, and sanity. They are not only where I went to get an IUD (so that I don’t have to GET an abortion should a condom break one day), where I have gone multiple times to get my pink parts checked out (so I don’t die of fun stuff like cervical cancer), and where I’ve gone to get tested for STD’s multiple times (so I don’t pass that shit onto a nice boy I like). These reasons should be enough. But here’s one more reason.
Planned Parenthood is where I went after I got violently raped by my (ex)boyfriend when I tried to break up with his wife-beating ass. (Btw, his method worked! I had to figure out a better exit strategy weeks later. Rape wins again!).
So Why Planned Parenthood and not the cops you might ask? Actually, I went to both. The cops were no help. He walks a free man to this day. But the reason I went to Planned Parenthood is because I wanted to make sure my vagina wasn’t, like, broken or some shit. And because I needed them to run some tests to make sure he didn’t give me an STD in the process. Above everything, though, I went to them because I needed people who understood women in crisis. Who knew how to support us and talk to us in a way that’s not condescending or shaming.
Planned Parenthood doesn’t just deal with vaginas, y’all, they deal with women’s heart and souls in those rooms. It’ s a sacred space and the government has no business being in there with us. Nor does anyone with a fucking gun. But now every women in this country who goes into those rooms, whether it be to get a simple pap smear or something much more intense, will be on edge (as if she needed any more shit to worry about) and afraid of getting fucking shot by another white christian terrorist. Btw, I am not nearly as afraid of ISIS as I am of angry white american men with guns.
So why the hell should you care about any of this? Well, if you’re a woman, fucking DUH. But if you’re a man who loves the women in your life, then fucking duh too. Planned parenthood is what keeps men from getting STD’s from us women. And keeps men form having babies they don’t actually want (yet). And it keeps the women they love from dying of cancer and shit because PP provides cheap health care for people like me who have bull-donkey insurance (or none at all).
I’ve never had to get an abortion myself, but only because my birth control has never failed me. But I will support PP and my right to have one should I ever decide to, til the day I die. And you should too. Because women will just go back to using coat hangers if you change the laws and shut these places down. Because we will not be forced to do what we know we can’t handle. Because kids deserve to be born into families that WANT them and can afford to provide for them. And because women are not fucking domesticated cows or cum dumpsters or baby factories. We are human beings with a right to make choices and mistakes, just like men.
If you are a man who has stayed quiet on the sidelines and watched women fight this battle alone, fucking donate to PP and, for god’s sake, speak up already! We need you! Men listen to other men. It’s sad but true. Men don’t always trust our words or our perspective. But they’ll listen to YOU. And this is just as much your issue as it is ours if you give a shit about the women you love and if you aren’t interested in crabs or herpies or having it burn when you peepee cuz you got an STD from a lady friend.
Since 1977, there have been 8 murders, 17 attempted murders, 42 bombings, 186 arsons, and thousands of incidents of criminal activity at our abortion clinics. And yet they have survived somehow. Why? Because we NEED them. I don’t care if you agree with abortion or not. That’s one service they do of many. Planned Parenthood is the only place ALL women have access to that gives a fuck about us and our health. You take this from us and we have nothing. Nowhere to go. Women are half the population. We’re your mothers, your daughters, your girlfriends, your spouses, your friends, your bosses, your coworkers, your fellow human beings. Give a shit about us and take a stand. We cannot protect our rights alone anymore. We’re fucking losing here. Help us.”
*if you are poised to write a clever “counterpoint,” save your energy. we’re getting enough of that from clowns at the podium, and anyone who tries to justify a murderous rampage in the name of “savin’ babies!” has no place on my list of friends.
What a great weekend my MT Grizzlies won their football playoff game and just now the Broncos, with QB Osweiler from MT bear the Patriots. I am Montana proud today.
Our President is a man beyond words, he does what is right not what is expected. This is why we love him. Thank you Chips and NW for always keeping us informed!
Congrats on your wins! My phone rang two minutes before midnight; caller id announced it was my Mom. One more Pope-related tweet, if I may. I’m particularly interested in his trip to Africa … have a friend who’s convinced that the Pope will be “grooming” his successor(s) from among African Cardinals. Here’s one of the reasons that’s not implausible.
