Why is the good fight always so hard? We fight and bleed and no battles are ever really won. That which is good and right lasts for barely a season, while all that is dark and evil lasts for eternities. But then, when you are at the bottom, the only thing that you have is the battle to climb up. Time for civil disobedience with a plan to regain and wield political power. The DNC is not the vehicle for this, however.
I am going back to my real life. My mother called with the news that one of my cousins has died; this will be the third death in the family this year. Let the world do as it will for awhile.
i think that the forces of evil will always be with us….those forces that seek to enslave and control us will always be afoot….many times #WeThePeople think that a battle won means that the chapter is finished..when those forces just re group to fight another day…

the DEMS squandered their chances in 2010 and 2014 to build on progress that was made by running from the President….
In this election cycle the President told us what was on the ballot….many of us heeded the warning…but some of us did not vote and others sought to teach us a lesson and voted for 3rd party..
as for the DNC…there is a place for it..it is up to us to make it what it needs to be…takes local involvement…along with coalition building with other grassroots movements and vehicles…there is no one way to move forward…there are many….
but move forward is what we must do…

Adding this to the discussion about head of DNC. First, I’m not black, but think it was pf who said she wanted a black female…….I agree with that.🙂 Second, I heard a long interview couple weeks ago on Progressive Talk radio with Donna Brazil and ????. Don’t remember which show it was on/the host. Anyway, he asked her about staying on as the head of the DNC. She emphatically said “NO!” She went on to talk about it being time to bring in YOUNG ‘blood’, young ideas. She said there’s so many new, creative, promising young people in the DNC and that it’s time to hand it over to them……that they are our future, not just DNC’s future, but the country’s future. She ended that part by saying she wantd/planned to return to doing what her absolute passion is: teaching. She spoke to some extent to that, her passion for doing that, the rewards, etc. It was a very good interview and insightful.

Everyone there seems to grasp the fact that this is last of these ceremonies headed by a decent, caring person for the foreseeable future.
Me too Arapaho. I made it through yesterday without breaking down sobbing, but alas not today. I also thought for the first time that I have ever seen, when President Obama was waiting to speak he looked defeated. Given how we feel, I cannot begin to imagine what this is doing to him and Michelle. They deserved so much better than we gave them.
I felt that, too. Choked me up. These next couple of months will be very, very tough.

I know I’ll get pushback here because I’m a blue dog Dem, but Keith Ellison would be exactly the wrong choice — a person sure to inflame as many people as possible, and what this country truly needs are Dems and SANE GOP (i.e., those willing to set aside their egos and personal agendas) to unite in a common goal: obstruct DJT from the godawful damage his handlers are trying to inflict on the US and the world. (See my post upthread about Putin/McFaul).
Harry Reid or Joe Biden would be PERFECT candidates, change we can believe in now.
I think Keith Ellison is a little shaky also, besides that, Ellison believes that the sun rises and sets on Bernie Sanders’ ass.
I’ll go even farther, anything that Sanders is involved in I don’t want to be a part of. Sanders is a fucking absolutist in the worst kind of way. And he’s not a Democrat, but he wants all the trappings of the Democratic Party. Fuck Bernie Sanders.

I don’t have cable so I get a lot of my info from twitter and videos. Ellison blocked me years ago for asking him a question about a bill. I wasn’t challenging him, just asking for information. So I don’t get good vibes from someone like that. PLUS, he’s a Bernie acolyte, and I don’t want to have anything whatsoever to do with those guys. I saw way way way too much racism and sexism on twitter from their ilk and now their trying to throw fits to gain power from a party they despise? NOPE.
Really unconscionable for an elected official to block someone who isn’t spewing vulgarities or threats.
DNC needs a seasoned veteran who knows the players and how the layers of Congressional/Senate negotiations actually work. Harry Reid would be an inspired choice, and Catherine Masto can learn from him to carry forward his prowess.
But Joe Biden (if he wants the position, of course) would be excellent at appealing to reluctant lawmakers who are afraid of their constituents.
The global future is literally at stake, Dems need to step up to the challenge and nominate the right person to be the head of the Dem party for the next two years.

But the official head, the go-to person for Congress and Senate needs to be someone else.

I’m so frustrated and angry now, of course not at you or anyone in TODville — this is a true haven, especially when I see what is going on now, everywhere in this country and the world.
It’s really not my intent to offend or raise anyone’s blood pressure here — Lord knows just opening the Internet is enough to do that now. And because I try my human best to do that, I get the sense that others think I’m trying to impose my opinion, which is NEVER the case. I’m not an expert on anything at all, and honestly believe that you can learn so much by listening.
I learn so much from everyone here, enjoy hearing observations on all topics here.

I heard Howard Fineman say something like the electoral college would be easier to deal with if each state legislated how their electorates would vote than something that had to be ratified. It was said last night on either Rachel or Lawrence’s show as those are the only two I am watching anymore. There are so many GOP run states I do not see how that could work though.

Per Thom Hartmann today, there are now 13 States with laws like MD. He claims that another 12 are needed to upend the current system w/o going through the Constitutional Amendment or through Congress. This has never been my understanding of the Electoral College. Not mentioned by Hartmann, today, there are 1 Rep to nearly 700K. US Population is 320M. The Constitution had provided 1 Rep to 30K. Then it was Amended to 300K, then to 600K and now, loosely agreed to 700K. How about fixing this 1st? This way, smaller States like: WY,ND,SD,MT,ID,RI,DE, etc are not overly represented over Bigger States.
Last, I am not sure, but the Electoral College as invented, was to get all 13 Original States to some form of Equality in terms of solving dominance from States with larger Population.
Hartmann also said today that the Exit Polls had Clinton winning in PA,MI,NC & FL by 2%-5% points. If true, this is ONLY happening in USA now. Exit Polls work well in other Nations, but in US? All those 4 States had GOP State Control. Only PA had Dem Gov.
Finally, I read somewhere that in US history, there has been FIVE Times when the Person who won the Popular Votes and or Electoral Votes were denied the presidency. All five to Dems. Twice now in the 21st Century. Is this Sustainable? I highly doubt it.
I seriously doubt that had GOP suffered this one time that the Electoral College would still be part of the system. One of the 2 major Party is Sane and the GOP is Insane.

Exit polls are just that, polls, they’re not actual votes. Don’t forget the #BradleyEffect, which I scoffed at before the election, but am now convinced that many who responded to polls simply lied about who they would/did vote for. Saw a clip of Frank Luntz from Wednesday morning who said he asked his cab driver who he voted for, and the man didn’t want to answer, but finally admitted that he voted for DJT. When asked about his reluctance, the cab driver responded, “I don’t want to be judged.”

Thank you Gail for this notice. I am not ready to listen to her say thank you. I haven’t even been able to listen to PBO. I am not ready to totally put this behind me. I am still so mad, upset, angry, etc. I haven’t been on Facebook and only read the tweets here. I haven’t read any paper and watched tv. This is the only place I can go as of yet. I so worry about everyone this is going to affect. I can’t sleep at night, So far I have listened to 4 audio books at night. I know I must get myself together, But I guess I need to grieve alittle longer. Then it’s to see what I can do to help the Obama legacy and all the folks who will lose much with this Republican rule.

I do not know how you can possibly look at this number and the election results and NOT think misogyny played a huge role. For those who are talking about the electoral college, as I said the other day I cannot see this happening-at least not in time to reverse the results of this election. But after this same issue in 2000, a movement was started to get the states to enact laws that commit their electors to voting in accordance with the national popular vote rather than the popular vote in each state. They need to get this passed in enough states that would take it to the 270 electoral votes needed to become president. They have gotten this law passed in enough states that comprise 165 electoral votes but obviously a ways to go. I was not aware of this push until LOD mentioned it last night. Good Morning TOD!
I just got off the phone with my health insurance company. I am insured via Covered California, the California version of the health exchanges. It was a routine call, just had to answer a question. To my surprise, I broke down in the middle of it, telling the woman through deep sobs, “I don’t know why I’m bothering with any of this; they’re probably going to take it away anyway.” I guess I’m not holding it together as well as I thought I was.
I am in the position of being a yoga therapist and having to try to come up with some comfort for my clients during this time, while I am searching for my own. Most of my friends and family are also in a deep state of shock and mourning, and I am praying to be a conduit of God’s healing love and light, as I am utterly without solutions, myself.
Most of all my heart aches for the President and First Lady, who got this in response to all of their hard work, and also for Hillary Clinton, who has to hear, once again, how unlikable she is.
In spite of all this, I awoke this morning with a small ray of hope. I remember how depressed and defeated I felt when GWB was re-elected in 2004 (not like this, of course). Little did I know that Dems would take both houses of Congress 2 years later and that we would get Barack Obama as our President in 2008. Our President has had a ray of protection with him. So many times the Obama coalition looked to be defeated, the ACA looked to be defeated, but PBO and we have found a way. I feel like he is blessed with some extra support from on high.
I don’t know how it will play out. But, something in me tells me that ultimately it will be o.k. and that PBO’s work will not be erased - that he will be triumphant in the end. I don’t know how, but I will go forth with this tiny bit of faith that is sitting in my heart at the moment, and hopefully, growing.

I am still physically sick. Very sick because I take things I love very seriously. I haven’t digested this new face of America, yet can’t escape it nor ignore it. At least not yet.
Madamesoph, So much of your message hit home with me. At first I was in denial, followed by despair, now I have progressed to angry. I am so mad at those I know that voted for Trump, especially my brothers, niece and her husband. My four adult children and their spouses all voted for Hillary and have expressed similar feelings. My youngest daughter is expecting her second child in February. She expressed worry over bringing children into this America she no longer recognizes. That snapped me somewhat out of it. I immediately said that is her hormones affected by her depressed state that she cannot give in. We have to work harder and my little two year old granddaughter will see a woman President in her lifetime. In trying to talk her down I talked myself down. Still mad, but not giving up. Maybe we can flip the Senate next time and get the Presidency back in four years.

Ironic and sad that a guy that is a walking scandal factory, full of sleeze and shady characters in his circle…replaces a man that has lead an exemplary life with grace and class…and a scandal free 8 years. It’s worse than a bad movie.
