      GM Don.

I avoid violent and/or war films like the plague, so no surprise I’m clueless about “Red Dawn.”

I looked it up on Wikipedia, which says:
“At the time it was released, Red Dawn was considered the most violent film by the Guinness Book of Records and The National Coalition on Television Violence, with a rate of 134 acts of violence per hour, or 2.23 per minute.[7] The DVD Special Edition (2007) includes an on-screen ‘Carnage Counter’ in a nod to this.”

And here’s what one reviewer said of the film:
“Adam Arseneau at the website DVD Verdict opined that the film ‘often feels like a Republican wet dream manifested into a surrealistic Orwellian nightmare.'”

Appropriately, it was released in 1984.

Our side really needs to stop subscribing to/reading NYT. They played a huge role in ginning up the “scandals” which were used by Republicans against Secretary Clinton — and were responsible for initiating the email server “scandal”.

Flip the script and let’s pretend that President-Elect Clinton nominated a Secretary of State who had received an award from one of America’s foreign enemies. Can you imagine the uproar from Republicans/MSM? It’s astonishing what Trump is getting away with.

From my vantage point, the investigation must begin at once. Remember, Watergate was about bugging DNC headquarters. This is far, far worse. Here’s what we need:

A thorough forensic investigation of all voting machines in Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, and Pennsylvania, at a minimum
A full accounting for the breaches of any and all voter databases, whether data was taken, and what was done with that data. Was it sent to Cambridge Analytica? Were the actual databases tampered with to remove voters?
A full investigation into any and all hacks of the RNC, including the information Russians were able to obtain and an explanation as to why they didn’t release it while simultaneously leaking information stolen from the DNC.
A full investigation in Paul Manafort’s role behind the scenes.
Testimony from Roger Stone explaining his claim that he was in touch with Russians behind the scenes as Wikileaks emails were being rolled out.
Testimony from FBI Director James Comey about why he chose not to push forward on the Russian hacks but instead released a letter to elected officials about duplicate emails discovered on Anthony Weiner’s server. Was he pressured to do so? By whom? And if so, we also need testimony from those who pressured him.
Testimony under oath from Mitch McConnell about why he chose to disregard the recommendations of a consensus of 17 separate national security agencies that Russia was interfering.
Pay attention. None of those bullet points involve war with Russia. They do involve actually draining the existing swamp in Washington, DC and cleaning it out. And if the Senate and House Oversight committees fail to do their duty in this after holding at least seven separate Benghazi investigations, we should begin impeachment proceedings.

    ALL.OF.THIS.

MOSCOW — The Russian government maintained contacts with members of Donald J. Trump’s “immediate entourage” during the American presidential campaign, one of Russia’s top diplomats said Thursday.

“There were contacts,” Sergei A. Ryabkov, the deputy foreign minister, was quoted as saying by the Interfax news agency. “We continue to do this and have been doing this work during the election campaign,” he said.

Mr. Ryabkov said officials in the Russian Foreign Ministry were familiar with many of the people he described as Mr. Trump’s entourage. “I cannot say that all, but a number of them maintained contacts with Russian representatives,” Mr. Ryabkov said.

Later, the Foreign Ministry in Moscow said Mr. Ryabkov had been referring to American politicians and supporters of Mr. Trump, not members of his campaign staff. The contacts were carried out through the Russian ambassador in Washington, who reached out to the senators and other political allies to get a better sense of Mr. Trump’s positions on various issues involving Russia.

I think we need to change our voting systems back to paper ballots, not the chad kind. Too many potential hacking concerns with computers. I like our vote by mail system and automatic registration we have in Oregon. Purging voters from the list and making Voting harder by requiring hard to obtain IDs, cutting voter hours and limiting voter locations should not be allowed. Next we need to include a voter authentication system where no one is ever able to steal lose, not count or destroy ballots. The party position in charge of voting needs to be checked by all parties involved. Strong deterrents need to be in place for tampering with the voting process including losing the office won illegally.

I think it has for a long time, DF. But he will never be close to matching PBO. And he knows it. President Obama is the first President in decades who is leaving office after 8 years with incredibly high ratings, and it is due to his performance: not sympathy as in the case of Clinton, not partisanship as in the case of Reagan, etc, etc. He would easily win a third term, and everyone knows it.

df, I am also beside myself with this mess. And, what I am dealing with makes it much worse. My husband sees no problem with Tillerson as SoS. Because he “knows more about the world and the players than Hillary did when she became SoS”!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you FREAKING kidding me?!?!?!?!?!?!?! He sees no problem with any of this. Of course, mostly he doesn’t know what’s going on because HE DOESN’T WANT TO KNOW. He might have to take responsibility for his vote. Besides knowing that this has to be dealt with for our country to survive as a democracy and a republic, I want ALL of them, ALL OF THEM to pay just so my husband will be forced to see what ‘his’ Republican Party has become. pkayden’s comment earlier about if the script were flipped: I can just imagine what he would be saying. In fact, anything I do say, he makes a comment like the one about Tillerson vs. Hillary. Or even, PO. He blamed him for the two candidates we ended up with. God, this is killing me.

Sorry for unloading friends, but this is bad. Bad for our country and bad for my home. I sure hope and pray there’s at least a few decent R’s who will speak up and I’m not holding my breath. Afraid they are all like my husband. Party over everything else. Power and authority. Lord, Lord, where will this end?!?!?!?!?

Good night. I’m going to go to bed and try to sleep, but doubtful that will happen. Love to all……….

Watch Rachel Maddow’s initial reaction upon hearing the breaking news that the CIA concluded Russia interfered in our elections to help Trump win – and that GOP…

    • December 11, 2016 at 8:34 am

The MSM seems to be whispering this information if they are broadcasting it at all.

Given all of this…some of which was talked about prior to the election..there should be no question that this election should be declared invalid. But what is in place to override the decisions of the majority party where their ethics come into question as well as evidence of corruption?

I feel like I’m on a roller coaster…I read or hear news that makes me say *surely* this is enough to make the powers that be investigate; at a minimum, cause Democrats and ethical Republicans to make noise about it. But then, *it seems* nothing happens; no response. However, I do not discount that things may be happening under the radar…but as the days tick by, it would be a little more comforting that *something* is going on.

In the mean time…his puppet in the US will weaken NATO….

    http://www.npr.org/sections/parallels/2016/12/08/504737811/russia-seen-moving-new-missiles-to-eastern-europe

In what could mark an escalation of tensions with the West, commercial satellite images suggest that Russia is moving a new generation of nuclear-capable missiles into Eastern Europe.

Russia appears to be preparing to permanently base its Iskander missile system in Kaliningrad, a sliver of territory it controls along the Baltic coast between Lithuania and Poland. Arms control experts shared fresh satellite imagery with NPR, which they say provides evidence that the Iskander will soon be housed in the Russian-controlled enclave.

The images show ground being cleared for tentlike shelters used at other Iskander bases, says Jeffrey Lewis, a nonproliferation expert at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies. “The pattern, and the size, and the location strongly suggest to us that this is the beginning phase of construction of the shelters for Iskander,” Lewis says.

    • 108 desertflower
      December 11, 2016 at 9:16 am

Lewis and other experts believe Russia may be also developing a longer-range cruise missile that would allow the Iskander system to reach targets in Western Europe as well. That missile, if it does exist, would violate the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which prohibits medium-range cruise missiles from being deployed on the ground.

    • 109 Don
      December 11, 2016 at 9:24 am

Makes perfect sense to weaken NATO if Russian is planning to move on Europe, and not just Eastern Europe, I’m talking all of Europe as crazy as it sounds.

Of course. That’s the plan…and DT is both desperate to be allowed to get business done in certain places…and ignorant enough to let the bribes work on him….Clinton would never have let this happen. Never.

  44. 111 desertflower
    December 11, 2016 at 9:22 am

NOw that we know all this…DT HAS TO GO, because he is a great liability to the safety and security of the US and the world!!

    http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2016/12/10/how-russian-hackers-can-blackmail-donald-trump-and-the-gop.html

In essence, Moscow’s security organs could now be in possession of what the KGB used to call kompromat — compromising personal material — on Trump and his staff, which could then be used to blackmail them into doing Russia’s bidding.

The mere possibility that Putin now knows the secrets of the RNC and the inner workings of the victorious party of the 2016 election is bound to color U.S.-Russian relations for the next four years, regardless or whether or not those secrets are in any way scandalous. Any perceived tilt by Washington toward Russia, or any accommodation struck with the Kremlin on the ongoing wars in Syria or Ukraine can now be interpreted as quid pro quo for Putin’s keeping silent on what’s he got on the sitting commander-in-chief or the latter’s inner circle.

Tom Nichols, a professor of national security affairs at the U.S. Naval War College, told The Daily Beast, representing his personal views and not those of the War College:“The worst possibility is that the Russians are holding back what they’ve stolen from the RNC because it’s valuable enough to keep in reserve until the president-elect is sworn in. This is a frankly terrifying possibility.”

    • 112 Don
      December 11, 2016 at 10:16 am

My only problem with the “compromising personal material” theory is that it doesn’t work with Trump, we already know he’s pig and that he owes foreign bank millions if not billions of dollars. Trump doesn’t seem like a person that would care one way or the other about his personal information becoming public. And besides that, even if some other salacious information came out about Trump, his sycophants would ‘t believe it anyway.

  45. 113 desertflower

It is my great hope that all the electors are presented with ALL this information and told that they have a responsibility to vote their conscience…country before party. Is it possible that there can be a tie in the EC and that would force a redo of the election because of extreme circumstances of national security? Can PBO stay on until this all gets straightened out? The Founders never planned for this…or envisioned the technology that we have today…flying blind now.

      Here’s Zeke’s tweet that @LOLGOP responded to.

There is one week before Electoral College votes.

The EC is, as Princess Leia pleaded to Obi Wan Kenobi, “our only hope,” the last remaining thread of the checks and balances painstakingly threaded together by our founding fathers to protect American democracy.

Someone please light a fire under the electors!
