Good morning Ms. Chips, Danny and TOD family, I hope all is well with everyone this lovely Thursday morning.
Nerdy, thanks so much for helping Ms. Chips and the sacrifices you are making for us TOD’ers. 💫🙏👌👊❤
To all, I hope you promote happiness, swap a smile, and trade some cheer today. ❤ ❤❤
Notwithstanding the nightmare of #BuffoonTrump being in the Whitehouse, I more than ever Thank God that President Obama is still the President of The United States of America. ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆 ⭐🏆

For Dems, the risk of working with Trump on anything constructive is legitimizing white nationalism as an appeal. https://t.co/m0S0IwmfUb
— Jamelle Bouie (@jbouie) November 16, 2025
To gesture at individual voters and say they aren’t racists—the usual rejoinder to this argument—is to miss the point. White voters backed Trump as a bloc. They ignored his bigotry and elevated his call for a new nationalism, centered on white Americans. Whatever their actual intentions—whether they were partisan Republicans, hardcore Trumpists, or simply disgusted with Hillary Clinton—they voted for white nationalism, full stop.
The more Democrats obscure that, the more they run the real risk of being co-opted, of bolstering the political prospects of ethno-nationalism in the name of a broad “populism” that isn’t actually at play. An infrastructure bill doesn’t outweigh the impact of Trump’s attacks on communities of color, even if it’s influenced by the left. Communities of color need physical and economic security. Strong wages and freedom from discrimination. Without the latter, a rising tide will not lift all boats.
I have a…feeling that this one is not going to go down well. https://t.co/rOfQpLtTxU
Whether Trump’s election reveals an “inherent malice” in his voters is irrelevant. What is relevant are the practical outcomes of a Trump presidency. Trump campaigned on state repression of disfavored minorities. He gives every sign that he plans to deliver that repression. This will mean disadvantage, immiseration, and violence for real people, people whose “inner pain and fear” were not reckoned worthy of many-thousand-word magazine feature stories. If you voted for Trump, you voted for this, regardless of what you believe about the groups in question. That you have black friends or Latino colleagues, that you think yourself to be tolerant and decent, doesn’t change the fact that you voted for racist policy that may affect, change, or harm their lives. And on that score, your frustration at being labeled a racist doesn’t justify or mitigate the moral weight of your political choice.

Chilling and persuasive @mattyglesias description of how Trumpian kleptocracy could take hold, and must be prevented https://t.co/797Z9WDDPm
— Jonathan Chait (@jonathanchait) November 17, 2025
The main thing that names currently floating around as potential Cabinet picks — Steven Mnuchin, Newt Gingrich, John Bolton, Sarah Palin, Rudy Giuliani — have in common is that they backed Trump. We cannot allow personal loyalty to Donald Trump to be the decisive factor in staffing the executive branch. Personnel is policy, and if fealty to Trump determines the personnel, then fealty to Trump will also be the policy.
I don’t want to live in a world where personal loyalty to Donald Trump is the sine qua non of every policy decision. And my guess is that, if they think about it, neither do Marco Rubio or Ted Cruz or Lisa Murkowski or any number of other Republicans from outside the Trumposphere who will be inevitably ground down if he is able to make his will prevail.
Above all, senators from both parties who know in their hearts that we are living through a dangerous moment need to avoid falling prey to wishful thinking. Because Trump is a vengeful and irrational man, picking a fight with him over an SEC commissioner or an assistant attorney general feels unpleasant, and many would simply rather duck the issue. But that vengeful and irrational nature is precisely why the fights must be picked and must be picked now.
People, can we please let this Post be about PBO, his travels and his administration.
There are a whole host of blogs that you can get your fill of Trump.
GGail, I feel you. I mentioned my dismay about the dump garbage last week, only that I didn’t want to have to encounter the smug ugliness of that vile creature, visually. The info itself, is important to know. So TOD, why not just balance it out with more on our guy…..just to be nice. That’s not too much to ask, is it ?
President Obama and Chancellor Merkel on the Future of Trans-Atlantic Relations - https://global.handelsblatt.com/opinion/the-future-of-trans-atlantic-relations-645958#.WC3RMcp-2ng.twitter
I agree GGail. Good Morning. If you want to hear and read DT doings and what stupid thing he’s done and said there are other websites. I don’t want to see his face here. I want to see President Barack Obama and what he is saying and doing, his administration - where are they going what will they be doing in the future. What Flotus and Dr. Jill Biden are doing. I watched the BET special again last night. It was so great! For ME, PBO will be the last intelligent president in America unless the Electorial College does it’s job and stop our nightmare. I want to hear about the DEMs and what they are doing. Did anyone sit-in on the BS call yesterday? Did I miss someone posting about it? Wish he would start his own Independent Platform and get more Independents elected and leave us DEMs alone.
PF, all emotions are still pretty raw, so bear that in mind and don’t feel “battered” because we don’t want DT flooding TOD.
There are a thousand blogs just swarming with all-DT all the time. We want this to remain about PBO and his administration for as long as we possibly can.
I hope you and others will understand and respect that.
A pressing question on my mind today, after some reading yesterday: Is the definition of ‘Christian Supremacist’ actually ‘Mouthpiece of Satan’, and I’m wondering how Christ would speak to this, as they are once again using His Name and His Work to justify themselves. My understanding is when He gave us the 11th commandment: “Love one another as I have Loved you”, He reset the guidelines and expectations for human behavior, and redefined the rules for spiritual growth. I feel in need of some help with this, and do not wish to upset or offend any faiths. ❤️🙏🏻
um, he’s a republican, why on earth would anyone expect it to be anything other than terrible. ? I’m tired of this nonsense, he is being exactly who he told us he was: racist, stupid, inept. I am furious that the first story I read this morning on msn.com was about Schumer and the dems willing to work with Trump & his team. Why? Why take part in any of their ideas? I am feeling betrayed on top of all the other “griefs” at this point.
There is not refuge for the storm that is about to hit us…and impacting more on some than others…my granddaughter is still afraid….i still have trouble sleeping….
i can become an occasional lurker…keeping my comments and feeling to myself….
Now that a week has passed, I go to bed feeling better than I did last week — OMG, last week I was in a complete state of shock, believing my own self-created worst-case scenarios.
This week I’m better, but after a few minutes on Twitter, my stomach is literally in knots, seeing the path that US democracy is now heading, with the greatest champions of US democracy about to exit the US political stage…
Meta captured some of PBO’s comforting words this morning’s at Berlin press conference with Chancellor Merkel:
President Obama: If our media is not invested in what's real and true, then it's hard to know or fight for what is right.
— meta (@metaquest) November 17, 2025
Pres Obama: If you don't take this job seriously, then you're probably not going to last very long. Demands, responsibilities are not casual
Absolutely NOT! You are a tremendous resource to us. My heart aches every day. I can’t imagine not helping to do what we can to protect your precious granddaughter. So we gather here and try to do what we each think is best.
Chips was the only one (and now NW) who could determine who stays and who goes. So I believe we must learn to work together here, disagree here, accept each other here.
This is a very, very chaotic and frightening time. We are scared out of our minds and rightfully so.
Not only do we have to grieve The First Family leaving the White House but now the wholesale threat to our democracy as well.
Please do not even consider leaving TOD. Please.
Thank you Meta. I agree with every word you said. My heart feels like it will ache forever at this point. But we go on.
Pf, thank you for all your contribution over the years. Please stay right here at TOD. We have to fight for
your precious grand daughter and ALL our children. As PBO says we are all in this together.
PF, I am a legal immigrant and the right color (white), but even I am afraid that if I join in the protests, or even sign my name to anything, I can be deported. So I have anxiety everyday. You are not alone. I have not been sleeping well and since I teach American History everyday, I can’t get away from it either which makes me depressed. I am afraid for the future of this country because once Jan 20, 2025 is over, President Obama is no longer the President, and I can’t escape that fact and am filled with dread.
PF - I’m just arriving here today, but I totally co-sign meta’s comments. The reason TOD has lasted this long is that we ALL respect each other’s reasons and needs to post whatever they think best (unless Chips or NW tell us differently). We all have different ways of coping with the bad things, and different ways of expressing the good things. But the beauty of TOD - and why I love ALL of you - is that we have the freedom here to “get through” in our own ways, without meaning any disrespect to anybody else, and with no disrespect taken. That’s why there are no trolls here - the “kill” button is hit behind the scenes, so we may just be ourselves.
President Obama’s response about the importance of voting, the urgency of becoming an informed citizen and the lack of reliable media sources that report rather than distort the truth is SPOT ON. I hope there’s a clip of it for all of us to share. He went off and I’m so glad he did.
Hear hear. Would like for our media to share it widely, but we will probably have to do it for them. Looking forward to Nerdy’s live tweets of the press conference.
The BET broadcast last night “Love and Happiness, a thanks to the Obamas” was so fantastic and all the more poignant because then they did not imagine what we know know. We still have two months to revel in President Obama in charge. Let’s not waste it.
Thanks Meta for responding to Lederman. I concur. This election was an election with lots of moving parts, including the interference of WikiLeaks, Russia and FBI.
that’s good philosophy. I do believe PBO is the greatest President in my lifetime. If I could’ve, I’d have happily voted for him again. retweeting this.
Thanks NW for the coverage of PBO in distant lands and for all that you do. :-)🤗🌈
The most important thing that President Obama said today: “DO NOT TAKE FOR GRANTED OUR WAY OF LIFE”. How many heard it?
I was not aware that this bill, which is Pence’s “Religious Freedom” bill on steroids, is ready to go in the new Congress.
“The GOP’s Anti-LGBT, Anti-Women ‘Religious Freedom’ Law on Steroids
The First Amendment Defense Act would allow hospitals, governments, universities, and businesses to ignore same-sex marriage, deny women health care, and fire gay people.
The First Amendment Defense Act is the nuclear version of the so-called “religious freedom” laws that have appeared across the country, most infamously in Mike Pence’s Indiana. The Republican House will surely pass it, the Senate will pass it unless it’s filibustered by Democrats, and President-elect Trump has promised to sign it.
If it becomes law, FADA will be the worst thing to happen to women and LGBT people in a generation.
….
And notice that it applies not just to religious beliefs about same-sex marriage, but also to sexual conduct in general. Translation: contraception, sex education, treatment of STDs – all of these are part of the bill. If a national pharmacy chain wants to refuse to fill prescriptions for the “morning after pill,” if a company wants to fire someone for being pregnant out of wedlock or becoming HIV positive, if a public school wants to stop teaching sex ed – all covered.” http://thebea.st/2fGx3pY
It appears our access to abortion and contraception may be curtailed much more quickly than the time we thought we had until Roe may be overturned. Significantly, this bill does not require even an actual “religious” belief but a “moral” concern will suffice to deprive us of our rights.
This is why the Dems under Schumer are talking about “cooperation”. They still have the filibuster and the tool to block the worst stuff, and Senate Rs are reluctant to take it away, which they might do otherwise.
yep the betrayal is sickening, but it is effing apparent. I don’t even know what to do at this point, go it alone in my fight against these crazy people until OFA gets going.
The only thing I see are Republicans in charge for years to come. Right now, I am not very hopeful from what I am hearing from the Democrats. They are making all kinds of statements to divide the party instead of bringing it together. They need to calm down and think. How can you neglect your solid base to go after a group of folks who will never vote for Democrats? If the so-called blue collar heartland did not understand what PBO and the Democrats did for them, I have no words to describe them. They chose to put their eggs in Trump’s racist, empty basket. It was not economics that drove them to Trump.
As I have mentioned here before, I work for a sociopath. He’s a Trump wannabe. He cheats people, takes great work from people he pays $8-10/hour. He hated PBO because he was forced to provide health insurance. And he’s also batshit crazy on a whole bunch of issues.
Here is what we’re up against: a black woman in her early 30’s who works here has three children. She’s a single mother. She voted for Trump because “he’s going to fix Obamacare and I’ll get more for the $300/month premium I have to pay.”
My office is next to the conference room, so I heard all of the negotiations he put insurance companies through, in order to provide that absolute least amount of health care he possibly could. Until ACA, he didn’t provide insurance for ANYONE, and he has hundreds of employees.
But the young, black single mother thinks Trump is going to get her better insurance.
Does she understand he is going to take away her head of household tax status, thereby increasing her tax rate? And with 3 children, she will pay much more than even a single mother with one child. The biggest threat to our democracy is ignorance.
I will find out exactly who is covered and by whom. Maybe the $300 is just for her PPO - she did say it was through this job. She’s complaining that it barely covers anything. She really is not stupid, but Americans have become stone stupid about health insurance.
It depends on what plan she chose. If she is unhealthy than maybe it doesn’t cover all she needs to have done considering she NEVER had insurance before. Can you imagine if you didn’t have insurance for years than got it? She has to have some serious issues. ALL her preventative care does not require a co-pay. That would include mammograms, paps, physical, etc. If she goes in for a cold or other ailments she has to meet a deductible. Do you have to meet your deductible for preventative care? These days deductible is close to $1000.
While Bernie is busy slobbering all over Trump, Trump will co-opt him & his flock in a hot second. What a sham. @chuckschumer @TheDemocrats https://t.co/tJ1bLdf63e

#BREAKING: Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan announces he will challenge House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi https://t.co/6OZtrfIwim
I posted late last night about how we now need to consider “propaganda” coming from other sources including the WH with a PE that has no qualms about telling lies to the media and the public. I don’t feel quite so crazy today hearing PBO use for the fist time the term “propaganda” in reference to media being consumed by the American public. I wondered if I was being too histrionic when I posted that. Apparently not.

I agree, meta. I have not always been a big fan of hers but she never stops fighting and she knows how to keep people in line to stand as a strong voting block. We cannot lose her strength, particularly with what is going on in the Senate.
Meta, I agree. I like Tim Ryan, but IMO Tim, Schumer, Sen. Sherrod Brown , Dixiecrat Joe Manchin, Bernie Sanders, et al, is chasing the Archie Bunker voter that will not vote Dems.
Ryan, Brown, and Manchin needs to stop misleading their constituents regarding bringing back those old industrial jobs and coal processing to the rust belt and WV. Hillary, had a viable plan to help the Archie Bunkers, but Ryan, Brown, and Manchin couldn’t convince them.
So what does Ryan, Bernie, and Manchin offers that will convince the Archie Bunker voter that wasn’t already offered.
Before I drift off to my siesta, just one quick one …
President Obama is starting to get on my last nerve! For eight years, he’s been making the rest of us look bad. Today’s presser with Angela - I watched the whole thing and will watch the entire recording again later. He is the master, and we are not. He makes us look bad. Well, actually, I can only speak for myself. So annoying.

Here are 3 I find apt:
1. Matthew 15:8 These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.
2. Titus 1:16 They claim to know God, but they deny him by what they do. They are detestable, disobedient, and unfit to do anything good.
3. Matthew 12:34 You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.

The BET broadcast last night “Love and Happiness, a thanks to the Obamas” was so fantastic and all the more poignant because then they did not imagine what we know know. We still have two months to revel in President Obama in charge. Let’s not waste it.
Yes
Can’t let these guys get away with this.
Thanks Meta for responding to Lederman. I concur. This election was an election with lots of moving parts, including the interference of WikiLeaks, Russia and FBI.
Thank you, COS.
meta, let Josh Lederman know that if Barack Obama were running against Trump, he would have beat Trump without a doubt.
Great example:
that’s good philosophy. I do believe PBO is the greatest President in my lifetime. If I could’ve, I’d have happily voted for him again. retweeting this.
Thanks NW for the coverage of PBO in distant lands and for all that you do. :-)🤗🌈
AMEN…I HAD A TEACHER IN BIBLE STUDY TRY TO GET ME TO STOP POSTING ON TRUMP..HEY..IF YOU FEEL THAT BAD ABOUT VOTING FOR HIM..UNFRIEND ME!
I am assuming the Dems will filibuster assuming the filibuster remains in place.
This is why the Dems under Schumer are talking about “cooperation”. They still have the filibuster and the tool to block the worst stuff, and Senate Rs are reluctant to take it away, which they might do otherwise.
Holy shit FoxFire, thank you for informing us of this, it is the first I’ve read of it. Making it known far and wide, now.
This was a pretty funny tweet about next Wednesday’s pardon:
White House advisory: “President Obama to Pardon…”
I wonder if Malia and Sasha will be with him, when he pardon the turkeys.

I truly do not understand this idiocy.
I can’t. Just can’t. 😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫😫
It’s like twisting the knife. I don’t understand how they can be so stupid and short-sighted. UGH UGH UGH.
Did you see this comment to @ChadPergram?
yep the betrayal is sickening, but it is effing apparent.
I very naively thought Democrats would have the advantage for years and years to come. Boy, was I ever wrong.
I don’t know whether to weep or scream.
Does she understand he is going to take away her head of household tax status, thereby increasing her tax rate? And with 3 children, she will pay much more than even a single mother with one child. The biggest threat to our democracy is ignorance.
I’m getting my information together. She is a nice woman, she works hard. She’ll listen.
And she has three girls. I can’t understand how any woman could vote for Trump.
57, if she is only earning $8-10/hr, single with 3 kids, then she & her kids are eligible for Medicaid.
Yes. If she is getting Ocare and the subsidy she is probably only paying for just herself and not the 3 kids. $300 is awfully low for 4 people.
CHIP for the kids if not Medicaid.
yes.🙂
What upsets me: it’s all Obamacare’s fault. Inevitably, it’s the media’s fault for their dishonest coverage of absolutely everything.
I like this guy:
Then we can charge Republicans for treason. These people are dangerous!
Democrats never floated charging anti-Obama protesters with ‘economic terrorism’.

PBO is giving us an agenda. We must listen to him.
We really can’t lose Nancy Smash right now.
It’s all of a piece, isn’t it? We are under assault and I personally don’t think it’s time to abandon our strength and what works.
So pretty! Not here yet - but sooooooooon ❄️❄️⛄️⛄️☃☃❄️❄️

Right now, I couldn’t be more disgusted with this guy.
